A Computer Infected With Ravmone.exe how to catch it?
Markymark2 replied to Grafitti's topic in Software
Ok well after doing a little research on the worm in question I can say it is because of Norton that you are infected!! Looks like Apple shipped Ipods with this virus on the disk!!! hahaah even more reason to not use an ipod!! It seems theres some code in that exe file that opens up Nortons firewall for a direct link with another IP address..this is really not a good thing!!! I will say to anyone to dump Norton and its pile of products but here is actually a virus targetted at its users.. Please uninstall of that crap and get a decent virus scanner...one that will probably catch your virus and many more that Norton has failed to find!!! Go here for AVG Free edition...one of the best Av products on the market and its free!! I think this virus has been caught by avg a few months ago and the latest realease will take care of it. Good luck and post back how AVG is amazing and kicked Nortons *bottom* -
Or maybe the best thign is to use DNS from the Linux box?Let the windows pc pick up the settings via DNS..That way if you need to add another pc you will have lots of spare IPs to play with.Im going out again just now like last night when we got talking about this..best thing to do is use google to search for setting up linux DNS and firewallIts fairly easy to do you just need to set a range of IPs like 192.168.1.5 to 192.168.1.255 and now you can have 200 devices connected if you want. Also like I mentioned last night..you can make a really good firewall for the inside network with just a few lines in your config file..hopefully you can google up a tutorual..if not Il get one for you tomorrow..Also you will need NAT and port forwarding to allow programs like ftp smtp torrents..games etc specific routes tho the firewall and through the NAT to route directly to any inside IPs ports..Something like this..134.176.60.121:21 to 192.168.2.5:21 that would be ftp..note i put a static IP in there? you can do it with DNS IP's too but I forget how to right now..ill post it up tomorrow when i get home..Ive made a great firewall/switch/router from an old 486 with 64mb ram and a floppy drive and no hard drive before...once it was setup it just booted from the floppy..loaded the ipchains..dns..routign tables etc..and was good to go!! no monitor no kb no mouse on it..it just sat in the closet and was the best router you could ever have )Hope this helps a littleMarky;)

nah mate u got that wrong!!If you didnt know already Opera has been around for years hence the reason they own http://www.opera.com/ cos they registered it 12 years ago :PTimeline..1996: The first public release was Opera 2.0 for Windows, released as shareware.I think it was 97 that the MacOS version was released with a Unix version in the same year.Opera has been making versions for Linux and MAC ever since then...LONG b4 mozilla...long b4 KDE etc etc..For me I have never used another browser on Linux for more than 10 mins till I have got Opera installed. And to go back to the topic of this thread...I can post these institutions that have dumped IE and any crappy Mozilla clones years ago..Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, University of Oxford, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Duke University.Ohh look two of the biggest IT universities in the world use it...Also Opera make versions of the browser for mobile phones..Nintendo DS and the new Sony Mylo..infact theres about 60 devices that use Opera in Flash form to load onto thier sevices. Also I would like to point out that most of the core features from Mozilla clones have been "taken" from Opera, normally 3 years after Opera have made designed it and got it to work reliably.Tabbed browsing..Zooming (FF still cant do this right!!)..disabling images..extended info on the url....favicons...mail support...torrent support...IRC chat client...password manager(thats NEVER been hacked unlike most browsers that copied this feature and tried to implement it ..RSS feeds...Notes..Text reader and Voice control....built in google search (yes it was in Opera first!!) sessions and the ability to export and save them..XML as the language for all bookmarks etc..Sure FF has a lot more plugins than Opera (prolly not for long cos lots of new ones are written every day)..but no browser can beat the features that are installed as the core..and NO other browser can beat it on the Acid broswer test..yes FF is NOT as compliant in Opera...So if you wanna see what cool features that will be in FF3..check out the latest version of Opera and you wont have to wait two years!!

Thats why the mods and admin team suggest that you keep at least 10 credits in your account incase of this or if you cant get online for a few days to post to make credits.I myself manage to maintain about 2 months of hosting in credit at all times.Marky;)

About the laptop...glad hes part solved now Must be some kind of conflict in the way windows is handling the connection..ie the settings your inputting..and then some kinda firewall software or even windows firewall or Norton net utils stopping you from getting it to work. You will just have to work out which program it is..maybe get a screenshot of the running processes and put it up here so we can have a look and see if theres anything we can spot right away. But you know it CAN work ok via knpoppix..so the light is at the end of the tunnel! Good Luck!Marky;)

It doesnt really sound like an issue with Outlook express it sounds like your mail account is just getting spammed.Could I suggest that you actually change your email addy or abandon it to pure spam and move on to a new one ?This is the best way to combat spam in imho..also avoid hotmail and yahoo addys cos they are a spammers paradise! My recommendation would be Gmail..been using it for a year orso and never had any form of spam in the inbox. Also using a mail addy purely for registrations on sites or on forums also helps keep your "real" address safe..I have one like this that is full of spam but also full of user registration details for many different sites or different autho codes in them..So I only sign in to this mail when I have just been sent some mail..then i move the registration emails to a new folder and leave the inbox to get spammed to hell. Good Luck! Markl;)_

I would have to say that I use Winamp for listenign to music around the house..I use the 5.1 version with a lot of plugins such as advanced controls plugin which gives you control of Winamp from the system tray which is handy for me always skipping around in playlists and turning things up and down all the time..I love the way you can click on files in explorer and right click them and get the choice to play the file or enque the file to the playlist. I also use a proffesional DJ package for when I DJ - I use Traktor from Native Intstruments, I also have a full on Midi mixer (Behringer) that has all the controls of an audio mixer but has extra things like scratch pads (like a Pioneer DJ CD player) and pitch bend buttons etc etc. With a bit of hacking around Ive managed to get this midi mixer to work with the global hotkeys in Winamp )) So the mixer now sits next to my kb..if I touch a slider or knob on the mixer when its in winamp mode..the signals sent in Midi are translated into the hotkeys in winamp..very handy indeed!! Ive also rigged it up to work in Photoshop!! I use sliders to zoom in on things and the scratch pads as the colour picker I Would recommend Traktor to anyone serious about being a DJ or wanting to mix a few tracks together for some reason. If anyone has any questions about Traktor..Im the man Ive been using it since it was realeased and I am part of the Beta testing crew for NI. Marky;)

All good help so far from the guys, can I add something that happ to me - it could a bit of BS Dell software installed like a firewall or internet protection software?I say this cos u said u have tried different cards and it stil didnt havnt access (also read the last post about DNS..this is kinda importnant to have set up right) it could be a Dell SW installed when it was made..lots of companies are bundling crappy products that do everything..but really arnt capable of anything.I would look in taskmanager and see the apps and proccesses runnign and see if theres random Dell apps you dont knwo what they do..disable them all and reboot and see what dont work anymore..or if that cures the problem One time I spent two hours banging my head against the wall on a Sony laptop that wouldnt connect no matter what...then I found a little slider button on the front of the case that disabled ALL networking! not just wifi but all networking..I hit the button and it all sprang into life!!

PHP + (Access OR MySQL): Which Is Better To Use?
Markymark2 replied to djXternal's topic in Programming
Hi there, Well theres a lot of good stuff out there to help you learn more about MySQL ..the MySQL site itself is a good place to start.. I have used these sites in the past to help me along.. This is a good site for users new to MySQL MYSQL Help And this site is great for more indepth stuff-look at the navpanel on the left for a list of other languages that they can help with..its very extensive!! MySQL Help2 I have also got a couple of SAMS books on PHP and MySQL and I would recommend them cos you can read em anywhere..but to be honest apart from the workable code samples and practice databases that come on the disc theres nothing in the books thats not free out here on the net..and a lot of sites u can download samples and databases for use with their tutorials.. Hope this helps you out, Marky;)
