HI today I have reinstalled joomla again without Fantastico and I am using a newer version of Joomla..the Ecommerce edition with virutua mart built in..I have also downloaded and uploaded Gallery2I have unpacked it on the server..stuck it in the joomla directory..I have surfed to the config page of Gallery2..Gone thro all the steps needed to get Gallery2 installed...It all worked no problems at all..I logged in as the admin and made a new gallery etc..Then i noticed that it has Local Server Upload ability so I looked into it, it asks for a path to the folder where the images are and then scans that folder and then you can attach the jpegs to your gallery..The problem I have is no matter what I set the path too...or set the permissions on that folder I get the same error.."The webserver does not have permissions to read that directory."Been driving me nuts all afternoon ;((Can anyone help this poor soul?P.S. only been messing around on joomla for a few days so im not joomla expert:)

Its very easy to do with cpanel..I know cos Ive just done it and solved your problem First of all make the HTML file for the custom error page..you could do one different for each error like 404 500 etc Save them as whatever file name you want..you just need the code from them... Login to Cpanel...look under site management tools...locate Custom eror pages...then you will see a menu with each of them on.. Open up for instance Error 404 and then in the blank box you can paste your code from the HTMLs files in there...but only the BODY...also ive found that images have to be in a long URL form not /images in where they point to...so http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ At the top of the textbox theres some buttons that can turn on ip adress and stuff...Im not using those..but I guess you could wrap them in HTML and display them nicely... GO here to check my error 404 ERROR !!!!

I hope the general populace of the planet will say "who knows...and who cares!!" the Vista circus just makes me laugh!!! Try a proper OS instead of waiting for this buggy garbage thats years late and years behind!!! -
I have the perfect package for you i hope... Compupic Pro This is a great program for all of the stuff you mentioned above... I have been using this for over 6 years for all photo files..images for websites..I have it open when working in PS all the time cos PS is SOOOOOO crap at previewing files ..Compupic makes littel thumbnails it uses itself to show you whats in a folder..so you browse the thumbs not the huge files...it can read PSD PDF as well as HTML and nearly every image file known to man or beast ) and allows you to search in the folders..using names..keywords etc etc I use it instead of PS for pics from my camera because its jsut soo easy to batch rename..batch resize..etc all in one go..its got Twain installed so I can actually alter the images on my camera if I wanted too..I could use it to grab the files from my camera but I dont use this..i use a card reader then use compupic to browse and change the files... Other functions include making of galleries...screensavers...slideshows...rotating your wallpaper in windows....making picture cds... While posting I even found a function it that will grab every image from a website- now THATS handy )) Too many functions to list many more than Adobes photopic or whatever they call it.....go try it for yourself )

Ouch!! this is a more serious problem than installing Joomla then!!I guess nothing works on your site right now?Hmm let me think.....have you tried connecting via an FTP connection and looking at the trash bin ....find the public_html folder then copy it to your LOCAL machine....Then goto the TOP level of your domain with the FTP...just press UP til it wont go anymore....Find the public_html on your LOCAL machine and copy back to the root of the site....The permissions maybe go a bit odd at this point...so use your FTP software to change attributes or change pwrmissions (they al call it something different) and make sure the permissions are set to 777 that means read write and execute...without these permisssions you will not be able to do anything properly...Hopefully this will work...if not I can only suggest that you make a support request from the Asta admins...they will be the only ones able to restore your public_html folders properly...most probably they will delete your account and recreate it.... -
but then again Apple ripped of Creative mostly for the way the Ipod works...there will be an interesting court case about this soon I am sure..

If you have USB2 or Firewire the opposite is true!! they wil have a faster TX rate than your internal HDI have an 80gig drive which I bought an external case for..it has USB and Firewire connectors on it and inside a tiny board and then the power and IDE cables for the HD...all for 25 EuroI use it all the time to take to peoples houses when I am repairing stuff or take it to a mates house and give them all the latest stuff ive downloaded...I was soo impressed with this I went one step further...I took the thing apart and actually installed it inside my tower unit...its now running as a second HD that is very fast to copy stuff to and from....then I went out and bought a bigger external case...I got this great one that allows you to fit a DVD drive or a HD inside it....this way I can unclip my DVD burner from my tower and take the DVD burner out on the road for instance to do a backup on someones pc and hand them some DVDS...I ended up buying a 40gig HD for cheap money to have in it also..This has turned out to be a great little way of backing stuff up in a hurry...and the case only cost me 40 euro!!

Ofc Joomla has this feature also ...the ability to create different access via user accounts is what a CMS is about

I would like to confirm that the Fantastico auto install works fine! I installed it in 1 min np just following the directions in Fantastico... I would start over from scratch and install it this way... Goto into Cpanel....goto SITE MANAGEMENT TOOLS then FILE MANAGER.... Click on the FOLDER icon next to the public_html folder not the text of public_html....this will then open that folder....when inside that folder look for the JOOMLA folder Click on the TEXT link that says JOOMLA.... Look in the right hand frame of filemanager then click on the first link DELETE THIS FOLDER and all subfolders.. This should move it to the trash folder...now you should see it appear in the trash folder below... Close filemanager then start it up again and goto the public_html folder and have a look jsut to check its really gone! close file manager again and go back to cpanel main page... Next goto PRE INSTALLED SCRIPTS then choose FANTASTICO.... Choose CONTENT MANAGEMENT from the menu then JOOMLA... Fill out the install form and when it asks for the folder type in "joomla" without and slashes-this is MEGA important!!.. We know there isnt a fodler called joomla already cos we just removed it.... This should now bring you to another screen telling you its going to make some new databases and write the config file.... This is it done!!! When its done it will give you a link in blue that is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This is the frontpage of your new joomla site.... The next link it gives is the admin login to the site...it should be http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This is the login screen for the backend of joomla....you have to use the login created when you ran the fantastico script..not your Xisto login... Hopefully if your fingers are crossed and youve done a little dance for the computer fairies...it should all be fine... Good Luck!!! -

I know what you mean about working in teams..this is me and my freind..he knows vitually nothing about computers..internet...web design...but hes worked for some of the biggest companies on earth making adverts for the street or for papers and magazines...hes layed out hundreds of technical documents into pdf...But I give him the specs...i.e. a banner 700X125 web colours only...must be in gif format....you have a couple of days to get it to me.....If we worked as a loose team we could break up design jobs like that...we have a couple of ppl making the site...setting the dimensions of the graphics...then hand it over to the graphics guys to make it look good...then we have a scripting team working on the fancy php stuff...the site needs a database...we hand that job to the database team...another team could handle SEO and promotions...We could bill for the time we spend then share it all out afterwards...then also we could use the thing we are building as a way of getting more work individually by having on each members of the teams profile... -
Ive installed Joomla this week and had a lot of fun playing with it..it seems a lot easier than Drupal...I would suggest you give it a go...theres millions of templates out there as well as modules mambots and plug ins to do just about anything really easly...

I tend to backup my stuff on to DVD myself...I have to buy a pack of 25 to store my music...I do a backup of films and apps once my 250Gig drive starts to get full up..I download a lot of UK TV too so this fill up a lot of room fast...this also gets archived and reseeded when needed...I would love to get hold of an old server backup tape system and then be able to do most of it onto one tape at time...i know it takes a long time...but thats not the issue...its physical room...i got TOO many spindles of burnt cds and DVDs lying around...wouldnt mind to have jsut a few tapes with everything on too..this way I can keep the DVDs also as a backup backup )

hey ive had a good idea...we should start a group on Xisto ...we are all pretty technically minded...between us we could bid on projects and share the time between people with different skills...Payment to each other could be done by paypal or something similar...What do you think? We ofc would have to work together on some dummy sites to display for potential clients..but I think it could work...what do you think>? -

Yes I have seen this site before but visited it via your ref link I have a friend who is a graphic designer/illustrator and he uses this site a alot also Elance Its very much the same as the other site but with more options for types of jobs that you can bid on.... Im thinking of going into partnership with my freind to make lots of dummy nice designed sites and setup up a portfolio for these sites and see what work we can bid on and hopefully secure ) Ive seen some mad things he has done like make 5 characters for an online childrens book and he got $250 for 2 hours work...he also made a pdf file for a company with really nice fonts..style and layout...got him $450 for 3 hours work....but then hes had some jobs that never seemed to end!! customer constantly changing the spec and refusing to pay more ;( but the rep of the bidders and the seekers can be commented on...so he gave this guy maximum bad rating for this cos he never got paid for the hours he put it..customer probably took the samples he got sent then modified them himself for nothing ;( I really like the idea of these bidding sites...its really usefull for ppl with the right skills and also for customers with little jobs.. -
Ive seen a program doing the exact same thing many moons ago...It was on click online from the BBC.Guys on the clip were using it in the office to chat when MSN was banned form thier office..In the old days a lot of phones had BT on from when you start up the phone..you had to turn it off all the time in the menu...I saw another java app that basically tried a handshake with any BT device around every 100ms...so basically it was scanning for open phones...phones without keys on them..so they could leech photos..docs and stuff from them .))))
