New Logo-banner For my website WiseTome.com
pyost replied to Vyoma's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I don't have much to say, since it is simple, so there is nothing to talk about J/k, as Arbitary already said, it fits the web site perfectly. The only thing I mind is the size, or the height, to be more specific. If it were wider, it would make sense, but this way I think it takes too much space. Even a smaller one would do it -
I don't think the script is that complicated. I beleive that the number of credits is based only on the number of characters in your post, without blank spaces. They way I see, it for every letter or some other character, you get 0.001 points Vujsa has a 100-word long introduction, and we can say the on average a word has 5 letters. That's 500 characters, which brings us to 0.5 credits Of course, this is just a wild guess.

That is if you are displaying pay-per-impression ads. Those are put on web sites with a lot of traffic. On the other hand, there are pay-per- <- snipped -> You get some money every time someone clicks on them.BTW Vyoma, what have you been using to create that log? I find that to be a very useful tool. Or is it something already provided, but I don't know about it?}

Hehe, first I thought Brasil was going to win. When they were "thrown out" by France, I thought Germany would win Now, I'm supporting France, because their style of play is much nicer than the Italians'.In other news, my country (Serbia & Montenegro) was worst in our group (ouch). We lost all three games:S&M vs Netherlands - 0:1S&M vs Argentina - 0:6S&M vs Ivory Coast - 2:3Now, who can say we don't suck

Really great article And this definitely should be pinned so as to show newbies how it should be done around here, as well as everywhere else, come to think about it. Every single forum is a place to develop a high-quality discussion. However, this can't be done with posts that are one sentence long. On the other hand, here at Xisto, you just can't write short posts, because it isn't beneficial. Like many others, I started posting short posts, which I was used to, but then slowly switched to longer ones when I found out it was necessary. Now I write long posts everywhere Of course, there are times when you just can't fit a long post in a topic - but then it's better not to post at all - it's very probable that you can't identify yourself with the topic.

Yeah, I encountered that problem, too. Even though there is a wide range of categories, the posts are sorta bland (is there a word like that? seems pretty good to me), and it's quite hard to accumulate enough points for a domain name. Xisto rules

When I said free, I meant available, not occupied But you can always go to http://www.findingresult.com/?dn=hostbidder.com&pid=9POR3TG0A and post for a domain name

Very, very nice! I like the design very much, as well as the title, as well as the favicon, as well as the header I presume you have made this template by yourself? Very well done, indeed. The only thing that I don't like is the domain. I feel that this web site could develop pretty well, so it would be a shame not to buy a domain like http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (which is free, by the way).

I don't really know Drupal CMS, but there must be a solution. Since the pages are dynamic and their number is constantly increasing, it would be a pain in the *** to write down all the pages manually. There must be a script (or a plug-in for Drupal, if supported) that creates the Google Sitemap automatically. Moreover, maybe it can be set to do so every week or so - that's what I am using with my web site and forum.
-
As you know, Google indexes you pages by following links on your and others sites. Since that can be rather slow, and problematic for web sites with dynamic content, Google has created Google Sitamaps. By using the sitemap, you can tell Google exactly where you pages are. Anyway, Google it if you want to know more

Is Your Internet Speed Good Enough Vs. Cost ?
pyost replied to Cookiemonster1405241499's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Interesting, I haven't posted my answer here :(I use a 128kbps connection (64kbps upload) at a flat rate (unlimited use) and I pay it about 20 dollars per month. Soon, I will probably switch to 256/128kbps, because this isn't really a cable connection speed (even though I am using cable internet), it is actually an ISDN speed. And the 256/128 package cost a bit less than 30 dollars. When compered to your prices, I really am being ripped of. But when compared to other offers in my country, I'm doing really well -
A New Review, Please need a new review
pyost replied to Logan Deathbringer's topic in General Discussion
SPAM To start with, I like the design very much. It is dark, but has a lot of curves, which makes the web site more alive. The thing that doesn't fit the design is the "KOG TEAM SPEAK". Even though the interior is OK, the scroll bars (both vertical and horizontal) stand out. I believe that it can be fixed by the use of CSS.Next, I think that polls would look better if there weren't a white border around the choices. Furthermore, in the left sidebar, there should be some space between the menu, the login module, and the RSS feed. Speaking of which, I don't think you need the RSS feed. If you think that it is necessary, however, you might consider redesigning the buttons so that they fit the overall web site design. As for the CMS and BBS, SMF really is good, but I don't like Mambo. As far as I know, there were some problems, because it was supposed to become paid for. That's why a part of the Mambo team separated and started their own project, Joomla! It is practically Mambo, but free and much better. I think you should consider switching. -
It's waterWALLs not FALLs Anyhow, it must have been boring to you because it was too easy in the beginning. Now when there are more players, certain bugs fixed (such as download/upload times), it is much more demanding and dangerous. You can get hacked any time! The current software version is 2.0, but I guess we will see 2.5 quite soon, since a lot of players have acquired 2.0.

The service is rather good especially if you have a web site with dynamic content. Search engines have problems crawling dynamic web pages, so the sitemap help them a lot. Or so it's supposed to be.I have a web site with a CMS (Joomla!) and a forum (IPB). I have found plugins for both, so they create new sitemaps every week. The sitemaps are correct, and I have been using them for two months, but Google still doesn't display my pages' content, only the meta tag. That's the only problem I have encountered. As for your problem, I can only think that you have made a mistake, but that is silly, since you have probably corrected everything during these two months. Try contacting Google, they will help you fro sure.

On the Internet there are many browser-based MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games), and there are rather popular because you don't need anything beside a browser. However, most of these games are basicly army games - register, collect money, build an army and attack other players. Personally, I got bored of that system, and needed something where I would be in the role of a single person. That's when I found out about Slave Hack. Most of you that are old hard core gamers probably remember Uplink, a simple but addictive game where you are a hacker fighting for his place among the best. The game required you to clear the logs, cover your tracks etc. That's exactly what Slave Hack is about, and it's a free browser-based game! The game started 06/06/2006, and the admin had posted a small ad here at Xisto (http://forums.xisto.com/topic/90331-topic/?findpost=1064348851). The number of players slowly grew until it was posted on http://digg.com/. During a small period of time the number of players jumper from 500 to 5000. And it's not for nothing - the game really is good - and I know a lot of people from Xisto will agree with me on this one. In this game, you start as an ordinary Internet user, with no programs whatsoever and an awful computer. That start would be very hard to cope with if there weren't some tutorials to get you going. On the game forums there are multiple manuals created to help new players get started. Also, you can't get hacked in the first 60 minutes of the game, because you are in the "newbie protection". But after that, be prepared to have all your files deleted. Most players don't delete logs in the beginning, and that's the biggest mistake. Everything you do is logged - one wrong step and all your files are deleted. After that happens for a few times, everyone will learn their lesson, reset their IP and start over. There are two things you should worry about all the time - money and hacking. Money is gathered by installing spam and warez virii on other computers (NPCs and real players) and sending "advertising" mail or warez files. As long as the slave, how the computer you are using is called in the game, doesn't change its IP address, you are accumulating profit. In order to really earn that money, you need to collect profit. Again, it the slave restarts its IP, you lose all you have earned. The money you collect is kept in banks, and that's another weak point. Banks have their logs where everything is recorded. If someone finds out your bank account number, say goodbye to all the cash. Another thing you can do is DDoSing. Basically, it's making a target computer "overheat". You do not gain any money, but the target becomes crippled and open for any attacks. Therefore, you get a hacking chance, reputation and pleasure. As I already said, the computer you start with as absolutely awful, so you must upgrade it as soon as possible. You can do so for you CPU, modem and hard drive. All the upgrades are very expensive, so you must save a lot of money, but the improvements are vast. There is so much more that can be said about this game, but it would take a lot of time to write it. The right thing to do now is go to http://www.slavehack.com/, register and play! However, if you need more information, feel free to visit my blog dedicated to Slave Hack. There you will find various explanations and it can be very useful. It is located here. Since I am addicted to this game, I'll give it 11/10 on the mark sheet http://www.slavehack.com/

e107 involves free things because Mambo isn't that popular as before. A big part of the peole who worked on Mambo CMS moved to work on Joomla! CMS, which is an open source project. That's because Mambo was supposed to become a paid for program. I don't know how it all ended, but Joomla! is one of the best CMSes out there, in my opinion.

As for the time it takes the admins to reply to some request, it really varies. This is a free service, so it is somewhat adjusted to the free time available in real life. Nevertheless, applications that are based on quality posts will usually be accepted rather fast. The thing you read about 50 posts is a lie. Nothing at Xisto is based on posts, only credits. So, if you make one long posts that brings you 30 credits, you can apply for the second package. As for reducing the hosting credits to three after aproval, it makes sense if you think better. Someone could post here for months without losing credits, and then apply and have enough credits to stay inactive for a long period. That's why reducing them is necessary.

I believe that this could be done by using Add-on domain instead of Parked domain. Add-on domain is used to "cover" a certain subdomain on a host. So, you should create a subdomain and call it whatever you want. You would get something like this: wisetome.kmaheshbhat.astahost.com. After that, you should be able to point you domain name to that subdomain as an add-on one.

The answer really depends on my free time. During the school year (which has just ended, yay ) I used to spend about 3 to 4 online, sometimes more or less. I usually visit the same web sites and download something I need. Recently I started playing SlaveHack (there is a topic on it here at Xisto) and it now uses all my time. Since the vacation has now started, I will probably be spending at least 6 hours a day online, and I'll be playing that game for about 80 percent of the time. However, I do hope to have some free time to go out - even though being online is addictive, it also isn't the best thing you can do.
-
Well, for that you need to be rather fast. And the requires a lot of practice. I believe that if you start early enough, it will come with time, no need to focus on typing fast.
-
I'm satisfied with my results, 65 words per minute. Though I doubt someone will require me to type that fast at this moment. Maybe in a few years, but not now
