  1. Yes, but I think everyone understands that for a beginner's web site you don't need anything special. I started with a free forum host, then moved on the a free host with bunch of ads, and slowly increased my knowledge. And now I'm looking for the best.Nothing is free, there is always something you have to do in return. Here, you must make good posts. At other places, you have to keep ads on your web site
  2. But you can't expect a kid who is only 10 to write good content on a various range of topics. This is a technology forum and therefore demands good posts, which includes grammatically correct sentences, a good vocabulary etc. It is hard for the ones that don't speak English, but small errors (such as commas and spelling complicated words) can and are tolerated. However, using leet speak and similar ways of expressing yourself is not appropriate. I know that I make mistakes every now and then, but I do try to correct them, unlike some other people. Hey, I'm fifteen and English is not my mother tongue. Still I am able to write understandable sentences. It's all about being willing to try. Without that, the whole web would be just another failure.
  3. Nonsense. Everyone knows it's Internet Explorer that isn't working properly. I have had many problems when designing templates, and usually because Internet Explorer interprets the code in a non-logical way. Also, you sad it has to have something in order to come popular. To tell the truth, it's the users that helped it become popular. 80% of the population (let's say 5% are using IE because they want to) don't know how/don't want to switch. The fact that it comes with Windows is why it is so popular.
  4. If you are doing web design, too, PHP and MySQL would be the best choice. That way you can expand your web site creatin gpossibilities (and earn more money )However, if you only do graphic design, doing a bit more in Java would be a good idea. Just to remember how it all goes. After that you can switch to some C language, but the choice is on you (C, C++, C#).
  5. True, but some people don't have JavaScript enabled, so that might be a problem. You can also redirect by entering this in the <head> part of the code:<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; WANTED URL">
  6. These days anyone can make a pornographic web site. I really can't tell that I know how much it brings, but I bet they are rather profitable - the ones that require you to register even more. However, mixing porn with flowers (who buys flowers online anyway?) isn't a good idea. As I already said, anyone can do it, but that's not the point! I could have done that to, but I didn't. I prefer looking at my web site visitors number slowly increasing. As for going to jail, I guess it is OK, but 10 years is a bit too much! But hey - it's China.
  7. Is there a way to make Firefox accept this certificate automaticly? Because I'm really annoyed by clicking the accept button every time! What's more, there ought to be a way to solve this..
  8. It really depends on the service. However, since Xisto is part of the Xisto corporation and Xisto's sister site, I would gladly do it. In most cases I would, since I don't visit suspicious web sites
  9. At the beginning of the month I started a riddle blog at https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=blogger&passive=1209600&continue= http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/= http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ . I customized everything and it worked fine until I checked how it looks in Internet Explorer. Since the blog is about riddles, I had to find a simple way of hiding/showing solutions. I made a new CSS class called 'spoiler' and defined it in this way: .spoiler a { text-decoration: none; color: #000;}.spoiler a:hover { text-decoration: none; color: #ad9;} And for the solution, I used this HTML code: <div class="spoiler"> <a> <span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(204, 204, 204);">Hover over this for the solution</span> RIDDLE SOLUTION </a> </div> As you can see, first a have a line that is visible (because the background is black) and another one which is not, as defined in '.spoiler a'. Since both "Hover over this" and the solution are in the same link, hovering over the text will show the solution (again because of the CSS). It all works fine in Firefox, but Internet Explorer doesn't show it. Is there any other way of doing this without using complicated scripts etc. Because I don't think Blogger allows JavaScript (which would be perfect). The web site's address is http://braind.blogspot.de/
  10. Updated Since I'm not a demanding user, I don't really get to see what is changed, because it is all the same to me. Nevertheless, it is always better to upgrade - who knows whether you might be attacked or not.
  11. If I may add, if you run a forum, CMS, or any other kind of software that uses databases on your web site, try to find a plug-in that sends a database backup to your e-mail every day. It can be very useful in case you lose all your data.
  12. Nah, I just got lucky However, this might also be a good thing - when a new members checks out how many hosted members there are, he will think that the service is really good (I'm not saying it isn't )
  13. Oh, there are quite a few things that can be said about this, so let's start from the beginning.First of all, eveyone notices the main difference and that it the monthly fee. I am sure no one likes to pay $15 a month to play a game. During one year you would spend $180, but you wouldn't play the game all the time, that is certain. On the other hand, Guild Wars costs less (at least in my country) and there are no fees. So I bought it and play it every now and then, without worrying whether I'll have to pay for that. That is one point for Guild Wars. The next thing we should look at is how the game "works". After buying that game (either the Prophecies or the Factions), you just install it, enter your serial number and play! Every time you start the game you download an update that is necessary in order to play. Those updates can get quite big if you don't play for a while, but keep the things rolling. I don't know that much detail about WoW, so I would like someone to oppose me here :DAs for the gameplay, everyone say GW is more simple that WoW, and there I must agree. However, that doesn't mean WoW gets a point. Simplicity sometimes wins over complicated gameplay. Yes, GW lets you "carry" only eight spells with you, but that makes the game more realistic. Not to mention that some people don't like it to be complicated. Also, GW hasn't got so much players as WoW, so it isn't crowded and you get to meet other people only in cities. It just has a different way of playing, and I like it!
  14. The game has been moved. Here's the new link: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  15. It is possible that some of your posts were deleted/edited. However, if my memory serves me well, problems like this were mentioned before, but those members' credits were back to "normal" after a while.
  16. So you expect me to go through all the members and see which ones have negative credits? Um.. No I can tell you of the ones I saw, and those are:grittochronogamer28marijnnnmicrodude431illusiondissipatewizzywig
  17. Not necessarilly. If you pay attention to the title of that language, it's 1337 5p34k, or LEET SPEAK. As you can see, here, 1 stands for L. So, there really isn't a standard, it's good as long as you can read it.
  18. Well, I use Firefox, too, but I get the same message as Jeigh. If they want a good service those MUST NO happen! What do you think would happen if Google showed a message "You are too far away from the server, please move to another country and then try again"? Whatsmore, even though the idea is good, I think it is rather unnecessary. Googling will bring you the best results without mixing them with other search engines.Take this for an example. Let's say both MSN and Yahoo were payed to put some advertisement on top of their search page, even though it is irrelevant and would probably appear on the second or the 3rd page. And Google wasn't paid, so it serves the ad on the third page. According to you, the paid ad will now be on top, even though it is irrelevant. Think of it
  19. That's just stupid. Everyone know something like that isn't possible, because the people owning that would bankrupt really soon. And what about ads on the web sites? Do they have them?
  20. Are you talking about those images next to forum names etc? Because I see them all, I don't know what could be the problem. As for the FP extension, they are supported, but I think you need to install them manually through your CPanel.
  21. Good point you have there. It seems that I've been living in the world of lies However, I'll still have to continue using the incorrect method of converting, because I don't want to cause any confusion. It is quite hard to explain this, and there would sure be someone who wouldn't understand.
  22. Yes, that's true. The iPods do look go in the beginning. But sooner or later it will get scratched. And since it's black, it will be easy noticable and not so nice anymore
  23. Exactly. This is the problem we are facing. Bits and bytes are often connected, but according to this than connection is incorrect. We can say that one megabit is 8 times one megabyte, but it doesn't remain so when we multiply one of the by 1000 an the other one by 1024. That's what I am talking about.
  24. @Quatrux Wikipedia says: Furthermore, every CPanel you can find shows bandwidth not as the speed, but the available amount of, let's say, traffic.
  25. I'm not sure if you are aware of this problem, and I know it might not be easy to make a script that fixes it, but here's the thing. When a hosted member goes below zero with his/her credits, sooner or later his/her account will be suspended, right? While I was browsing throught some topics, I found this one http://forums.xisto.com/topic/80187-topic/?findpost=1064275902. If you look carefully, on the first page there are I think 5 members of the [HOSTED] group. However, after checking their credits, I found out that most of them have below -100 credits. So, wouldn't it be logical for member's whose account gets suspended to be returned to the Member group?
