I really don't see why people hate being called "geeks". I'm a geek and am proud of it. Anyway, geeks are people obsesed with technology, and usually have a lot of knowledge concerning a certain field. Geeks are somewhat like hackers. I'll conclude by Forever Geek's moto - "Nerds are for dorks"

Need Suggestions On Forum Post Based Games

By the way, in Serbian, "Kaladont" means tooth paste -
15%??? Wow.. That's a lot. My GMail space usage is 1% Anyhow, there's no need to delete spam, just leave it lying there. After 30 days, it is automatically deleted. The same goes for Deleted items - that's why I don't delete anything, who knows if I'll need it some time later.

How To Check File Size Of A Remote Folder
pyost replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Web Hosting Support
I discoverd this just today In cPanel, you have "File Manager", but that won't help you, as it is used only to manipulate folders. The things you should use is "Disk Usage", right next to the manager. It tells you how much space each folder takes up. -
Wow, abhiram, it seems that you have some rather serious problems You are paranoid and therefore don't like social events. But on the other hand, you are narcissistic and histrionic! How can those two problem groups go together? If I were narcissistic and histrionic, I'd probably like social events, as someone could praise me during the conversation

Yes, the processes page isn't working quite as it should. If your credit count is below -30, your hosting should be automatically terminated. I'm not sure if an administrator can solve this, since he/she uses a script to terminate someone's hosting, as far as I know. The script reduces hosting credits below -30. Now, if you are already below -30, I'm not sure how an admin can help.
-
Hm, I always wanted to know how it looks when an administrator spams. I guess now I know
-
Hm, if m^e gave 4 credits to each hosted member, he would still have over 500 And then he could give ME those credits :DAs for the chick, ~ aL!ya ~ [.[.ßLes§ed.].], if that is her real picture.. Woah *insert a drooling emoticon here*

Aww Jeigh, I know everyone will miss you.. But not me! Hahaha! Flee you coward! OK, maybe I exaggarated a bit.. I'm gonna miss you I never found out this, but what do you host on your account? Is it some site, maybe Antilost, or some personal stuff? You know, it wouldn't hurt if you gave out points periodically
-
And yes, I will confirm. You are allowed to use anything that you can install and start :DThe first option is to install everything manually, which I strongly suggest, since that way you increase your web server experience. On the other hand, if you are bothered by the speed of manual installs, you can use Fantastico, which is a part of the cPanel. There you have phpBB and SMF offered, and the installations are constantly being updated. By using Fantastico, everything will be automatically created, whereas you must create a MySQL database manually if you were to do everything by yourself. However, I must warn you that it is far more secure that you use SMF than phpBB. Even though you can use the latest version, it is well-known that phpBB is one of the least secure Bulleting Board Systems, which can't be said for SMF.

Who Is Your Favourite Free Host? whats your fav free host?
pyost replied to teartrack_sos's topic in General Discussion
It really depends on the host, but most of them "survive" by placing ads on your web site. When something is free, everyone wants it, so they have numerous pages with AdSense on them. Unfortunately, those host don't live for a long time. Xisto is different. You don't get ads on your web site, but are required to post here. Why? Because each and every post increases the forum size and its page count. And on every page there are let's say 3 ads. Also, the content is high quality, so the links in the ads will also be. A perfect tactic to get money. However, ads are not enough to support all the users, so OpaQue uses money that he gets from Xisto - Web Hosting.com, a paid host that he owns, in order to finance Xisto. Without him, we would probably be using Geocities right now So, if you are to switch to a paid host, make it Xisto - Web Hosting and help the community survive -
I don't see why not. Sure, it would leave me with -170 credits, but who cares! As long as you are satisfied with your present, I'm happy too This is so true Xisto is Jeigh's second home. Not only does he act like that, but he is here all the time How much Jeigh? Eight, nine hours a day? As for messenger account, sure, I'm always open to new contacts :0 My goal is to get to 100, and currently I'm at 88 You have my address in the profile. I wouldn't really call it "post to host". It's more of a "write to host" if you know what I mean. I also hate communities where a post gives you a fixed amount of credits. This system is waaaay better. BTW, I'm suprised m^e hasn't come up yet with his credit count If I were him, I'd boast all the time for sure

Need Suggestions On Forum Post Based Games
pyost replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in General Discussion
I guess the most popular one is the game you mentioned. After that, there is Kaladont, a game played in my country (not Croatia). One of the funniest games in my opinion is "One word story". Each member posts one word which is used to continue a story. Member1: Once Member2: Once upon Member3: Once upon a time Member2: Once upon a time there Member1: Once upon a time there was Member3: Once upon a time there was a giant Member2: Once upon a time there was a giant host And so on You can't imagina what kind of stories you can get -
Now we know how to keep you here - promote you to a mod, but not to an admin Perfect evil plan, hahaha I know this is a bit off topic, but if I remember well, there was a Contests forum when I joined up. What happened with that? I'm sure we could all use some competitions for getting more points
-
If my memory serves me well, m^e once told me that he had 900 and something credits But we can't check that, since the script on the process page isn't working Will somebody fix that? Anyway, make that THREE years!! I wish I had that amount of credits Now this is a good question: If you had as much credits as m^e does, would you even bother to post here?
-
Yeah, there are spammers all the time. And warning levels just keep increasing But we mods do try to delete everything unnecessary as fast as possible. If you check out the SPAM and JUNK forums, you ought to see things recently posted - but you haven't seen them, have you :DAs for the credit count, at the beginning it was a big problem for me, because it was usually about 5, just because my posts weren't good enough. And now it's close to 30 (but just because I was away for 10 days). My goal is to reach 100 till the end of the year
-
And vice versa. The more you post here, the more you learn. When I first applied for hosting, I was barely accepted, since my posts were rather "noobish" and short. But after months have passed, I finally realized how easy it is to create quality posts. I really learned a lot while posting here
-
Oh my Anyhow, dhanesh, I'm glad you are still here. Some people do use the account, but hate posting, so they're gone after only a few months. There's still three month and five days to my anniversary, and you bet I'll be here to celebrate it And thanks for mentioning me

I really don't mind E3 being an event for people with higher influences, if I may say so. Of course, I wouldn't want it to disappear completely, since it is a big thing, but let's face it. Most of us will never go there and read about it in the newspaper only. So, isn't it better for it to stay with only news reporters there than close it forever? And if you went there, it would still be hard to take a glimpse at the bigger projects coming around the curve - again, only the press has access to the "forbidden" areas. We, the mortal people, are anyway satisfied with the information we get from the news. And it should stay that way.

Astahost On [myspace]-[orkut] -> All Members Invited :-)
pyost replied to OpaQue's topic in Alerts, News & Announcements
I never really like myspace and similar communities, but haven't tried Orkut before. I guess I'll give it a shot and see what happens Someone, please invite me - johnpyost [at] gmail [dot] com -
Of course, that is the most important rule! I hate to see pages with repeating backgrounds, especially if it is a smaller image which shows up so many times. And when you add text to the colourful background.. *vomit*. Just keep the background simple and if possible in one colour, and choose a colour for the text so that it can be easily seen. And avoid too bright colours such as yellow, light green etc.
-
This is a very handy function, and there is another place where it is quite useful. In CSS, you can create buttons that change their background colour when the mouse pointer is above them. However, this can be achieved by using JavaScript and HTML. <td width="60" onmouseover="this.bgColor='#9db5c8';" onmouseout="this.bgColor='#c0d3e7';"> The table cell will be #c0d3e7 until the mouse pointer comes to it. Then it will become #9db5c8.

Mysql Error Never Seen On My Site Before (too Many Connections).
pyost replied to Chesso's topic in Web Hosting Support
Nope, you can use only those that are predefined in the AdSense control panel. -
A good tutorial you have there, but there are some points where I wouldn't agree with you. According to your next point, it's best to use a blue-to-white background. But how can this be accomplished if no images are used? I say, do use simple graphics, but be careful. True. 800x600 used to be common, so 800 pixels had to be the max width. However, since a lot people still use low resolutions, it might be best to use a fluid design with width: 100% Just to add, try as many browsers as you can! Internet Explorer, Oper, Firefox, Netscape, everything that you can think of. Even a slightest part of the code can make the page look different in various browsers. Here, I do not agree with you. If you are not a professional, then it is OK to use a free forum site, but otherwise it's rather unexceptable. Big companies and serious people ought to use forums on their own host. It will be more customizable and makes the creator somewhat more intelligent. Another thing is not using free forums such as phpBB and SMF. While they are free, they give out the wrong impression. It is better to invest $100 if you can!
