It might sound serious when we read it like this, but I sincerely doubt that Google will give up easily. Let's not forget that the people in Google have a lot money - and money makes the world go round. They are aware that changing gmail.com to googlemail.com would put off numerous users, and, if I were them, I would make sure that doesn't happen.

Google - Better Before? google is going from good to average
pyost replied to Zlash's topic in Search Engines
I don't think it's Google's fault there are more junk sites amongst the top results - it's just that people are finding ways of cheating Google and getting to those positions. In my opinion, Google is getting better everyday. It's not the new services that make it so good, but the little tweaks they introduce everyday. -
Where Do You Work? Or where do you WANT to work?
pyost replied to eubanksd's topic in General Discussion
Since I'm still in high school, I don't have a real job, but I regularly do some freelancing. It usually includes web design (XHTML/CSS) a scripting (PHP/MySQL). It's a really good mean of earning money since I am not obliged to do it, yet I enjoy it. If you need something done, contact me. However, being still in school doesn't stop prevent me from dreaming, does it? After finishing high school, I'd like to go to a university in UK/USA (MIT *drool*) and after completing that, get a job in a programming company (e.g. Google ). -
Actually, if my memory serves me well, those files are being exported as backup.sql.gz. Or maybe not Try both

Try with 2082.

If it's the same thing I had to deal with a few months ago, then it is a MySQL issue (but not a problem). You can read more about this here. Anyway, one of the solutions to this problem is to run this query every time you open a MySQL connection: SET NAMES 'utf8' Ugh.. Actually.. If the content appears OK, but the rest doesn't.. I might be wrong, but do give it a shot.

Wow.. Another free hosting service.. Xisto - Web Hosting must be doing really good, am I right As always, this is another great offer, with an even better, professional design. However, there are some mistakes on the web site that you should deal with. I'm not criticising, just pointing the out You said 10GB BW is offered, and that's stated on the "Packages" page, but the home page and the "Reliability" image say 5GB BW How do you get back to the home page? I can't seem to find any links "Packages" - We currently provider I didn't find any other spelling mistakes, so consider this a great start. However, I would change the forum link to point directly to the subforum on Xisto, but that's just me. Good luck with the service! ~edit~ Just a few more things on the TOS page "We are investing LOT of Funds" - should be either a lot of or lost of "active, we mean, good" - leave out the commas "terminate sites who break" - WHICH break I might have made a mistake, too, but this is as far as my grammar knowledge goes

Aah, this sure is a wide-spread problem, while at the same time a good way to make easy money. People often buy domains for a longer period, and then increase their price when someone really needs them. They have all the rights to do so, there is no law against this kind of action, but it is unfair. All the good domains are taken, and all you can see is This domain is for sale, while it could be used in a much better way. Good idea, since this way he is bound to get the domain name. However, I am not really sure this guy could be sued - after all, he didn't break any law when he bought the domain name. Yes, he will probably be obliged to transfer it, but there probably won't be anything else. Of course, you could always search for some alternatives, for example http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Unfortunately, com is already taken (what a surprise..), and it has a hyphen in it, which is not good practice, but it's better than nothing.

Ugh, definitely not. It is a rule of thumb - if something you've made doesn't work properly in all browsers, then it needs fixing. Of course, do try other browsers as well, but don't skip any.

I find it rather hard to believe that an "Astahoster" is browsing with JavaScript turned off Hm.. Do you have the main box surrounding the shouting area AND the text box, or the one that contains the shouts (may be a little unclear, I know)? Because I did have the main box, but no shouts area
-
No, I think you misunderstood my situation I already had all the checkboxes enabled, and since the shoutbox wasn't working, I did a fulll refresh (without changing any setting) and it worked. As for the cache thing, I think it was mentioned at the official IPB forums.

An interesting thing is that this video was, from some reason, deleted from YouTube - but thanks to shiftdeletenet, it's up again Pure brilliance Also, if I am correct, this is actually some radio show host (or something similar) that has a lot of money, so this "adventure" wasn't a problem for him. I doubt a normal Windows user would do the same thing
-
OK.. I've managed to solve this problem in a quite weird way Of course, first I checked whether JavaScript was enabled - and it was, so that is not the problem. However, I remember reading about IPB having these problems because of browser cache (don't ask why), so I refreshed the page completely, and it worked So, for Firefox users, hold the CTRL button and press refresh. That should get you going.

Short and simple - no. If you acquire an account, there will be no ads on any of your pages. Xisto has the same offer as all the paid hosts, except you "pay" by posting at the forums. What's more, if you decide to use a top level domain name with your web site, no one will be able to notice that you are in fact using free hosting
-
This upgrade struck me, too. I knew there was a plan to do so, but since it didn't go too well at Xisto, it was postponed here at Xisto. But as far as I can see, everything is working perfectly right now. Not to mention that this version of IPB is much better and more secure - not that we've had any security problems.. I'll second this

Actually, you have got it a bit wrong. HTML is not a programming language - as the name itself tells you, it is a markup language (Hyper Text Markup Language). That means it only "explains" the browser what to display on a certain page. This content is not dynamic (it never changes); it is exactly the same as you've typed it. Even though HTML is not a programming language, it sure is the start point for creating web sites. As I already said, HTML tells the browser what to display, and no other markup language can help you with that. Without HTML, you won't be able to create anything. However, knowing only HTML is far from enough for a good web site. You would also have to learn CSS (Cascading Stylesheets - a stylesheet language) for better design, as well as PHP/MySQL (now this is programming) for dynamic pages and user interaction. But I wouldn't rush it if I were you. It's always best to buy/download a book on pure (X)HTML and learn it well, because it is the linchpin of all web sites. After that, move on to CSS, and then PHP and MySQL.

I think it is something on your side. Maybe some spyware that is hardly detected... If I were you, I would run both Spybot and AdAware, just to make sure Did this happen only once at Xisto, or has it happened several times?

Permission Problem With Mysql Database Creation Please Help
pyost replied to DaEmOnFiRe's topic in Programming
What is the exact error? It would be great if you could copy it here, since without it we can't really help you -
I can't seem to find that piece information on GoDaddy right now, but I think you've misunderstood what they were offering. If it said "Free AddOn Domains", it probably meant that adding one was free. However, you would still have to be the owner of the domain you want to add, which means you would have to pay for it.Most hosts do offer free AddOn domains, but some require additional payments, that can cost even more than a domain - that's probably why this option was stated at GoDaddy. Of course, I could be wrong, but why would anyone be giving away 10 dollars?
-
A little more details concerning this question - yes, you can switch to a domain later on, but you are required to pay 15 credits in order to change a domain name. This is done via the process page on Xisto. However, if you are determined to buy a domain, it might be a good idea to do so before applying for hosting, because you would avoind the domain change fee.

phpBB avatar_path PHP Code Execution Vulnerability

Obviously, no one has tried to hack your board. If it were the oposite, your message would already be down - phpBB is well-known for its security issues.
