  1. ah... you all are naughty people you should be using blackle. it is basically like google, except you are saving kilowatts from your screen, because it is proven that a black background uses up less energy than a lighter backrgound. you can visit blackle here as for google, yes, i do believe it is the best search engine. however these days, it is being largely influenced by advertisers and these 'seo' tactics, and the relevancy of its search results is declining
  2. hmm.. well you see, that's the whole point. it's dual purpose. it serves as a table and a computer/whatever you want to call it.i fully agree with you when you say that you wouldn't buy it just because it is a microsoft product, however why would you buy from apple? they are just as bad. i would only buy it if it were linux based :)also, what you said about the price will probably be true: it will have a nasty price tag. and you can't even torrent it like you can with windows
  3. hmm... well, for the aeroplanes, i think most opf them actually use windows. i have a very funny pic i took on singapore airlines plane, which shows that they run on windows 3.1! and this was last year!is crashed, blue screen of death and all, and then rebooted. was funny. and all this because i tried playing games before takeoff...
  4. It's official! KDE 4.0 will be released on next January 11th. The release itself doesn't sound very firm, as and not the long awaited prime time release. At the very first Alpha release on march 11th, the release date had been forecasted to October 2007, and then shifted to the end of the year with the second Beta. Despite this, the promises for the fourth version are quite interesting and maybe deserve a "stay tuned". so, what do you think? are you excited about this release? Notice from truefusion: Topic merge. Search the forum next time, please.
  5. hahaha... that was so funnyi cant believe someone actually bothered... that must have taken quite a lot of work...the website design was actually quite good.at first, i was scared. when i saw the topic title, my heart sank. MICROSOFT firefox? i thought firefox was the latest addition to the evil microsoft empire...thankfully, just a parody - a good one at that. i may download it - i liked the bit where porn downloads 10x faster
  6. ah, this may have contributed to my posting problems.... good thing i kept my hosting credits above 10 like suggested
  7. i am proud to be a gmail user. i personally hate hotmail, and the way it has become associated with microsoft.hotmail was ten times better when it was HOTmail, not WINDOWS LIVE mail. even since hotmail became a possession of windows, it screwed up. i didn't receive half of the messages that were sent to me, and in turn half of the people i sent messages to didn't get mine. not to mention the fact that it takes an hour to load your inbox - and i have a fast internet connection.gmail, on the other hand, owns! more storage (i never have to delete anything now), faster, more reliable...and to those who complain that you can't use gmail with messenger... well, guess what... you can!
  8. haha, yea, i do agree with you on that one, crazyfrayif i ever got my hands on surface, then i sure wouldn't be using it as a coffee table! although i suppose they would have thought of something to counter this - after all, their main argument is that it is inconspicuous - it blends in with your living room, and may be used as a table. there is probably at least 5cm glass separating the actual thing you touch and the screen, with sensors attached to it or something. in any case, i am sure that htye have thought this through.then again, it is microsoft we're talking about...
  9. hmm.. well, i do agree that the girl must have been emotionally unstable when this happened. maybe something happened before, and after this she just couldn't take it any more?despite this, i do believe that these people should be punished. then the question comes up: charged for what? as t3jem suggested, harassment is probably the best charge here.
  10. i have always loved se phones! they are really easy to use in terms of navigation (ie it is really easy to find what it is you want to do/change), they have good visual appeal, and good featuresi currently have a w300i and i am very proud of my phone!unfortunately, the other day, i got probably the only bad thing about se phones - the white screen of death.this happens when you turn your phone off. when you turn in back on again (and this happens once in every million times, shows how lucky i am), all you get is a flashing, white screen. the phone is trying to fix itself up, however it fails. regardless of this, se are very well aware of this error, and have fixed it in their new phones. they also offer a free fix for those who encounter it. the wsod only applies to phones made around the end of 2006, such as mine.i refuse to buy any phone unless in is an se phone, in the walkman series and a flip/slider phone, preferably slider
  11. hmm... well, i have a demonoid account, and i used to love using demonoid! i would give all of you an invitation as long as you promise to seed, because i myself know how hard it is to register (i kept refreshing the page for over a year before i finally got lucky), however right now i can't (demonoid is down)it was a terrible day for us all when demonoid went down we will all miss you. i personally believe it will be permanent this time :Dhowever, i pride myself on my excellent ratio! we (demonoid members) will not give up without a fight!
  12. hmm... why do you need to pay for seo? can't you just put in a lot of meta tags?personally, i would not pay for seo. i dont even care that much where my website is on google (if it even is there). as long as my users know the website address, then it doens't matter to me.

hmm... kansuke, i personally don't like dreamweaver. its code isn't w3 encouraged. it puts in random dashes everywhere for example:<img src="blabla.gif" alt="whatever" title="whatever" />
  14. hmm.... well, from what i have seen and heard, wordpress has the cleanest interface and is the easiest to use. it is also world famous for its '5-minute installation'. however, when it came to installing my own blog, it just didn't seem to work. when i go to my blog, all of the links to 'categories' etc. didn't work. why do you think this is? i did everything it said in the instructions... my blog can be found here
  15. wow, kartoo seems really neat!where do you guys search when you need to find files etc.? i use shareminer.com - you can choose which file sharing sites to searchi really like the concept of shareminer, because it is very clever in that it actually uses google, however it says that in the search results, it has to be included your search term and THE PREFIX of one of the sites you mentioned e.g. i search wondershare ppt2dvd, and say i only want to find the file in rapidshare for some reason. shareminer puts in a google search saying: "ok, find 'wondershare ppt2dvd', and 'http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ really is quite clever
  16. ah... well i have changed my views on some things.for english (school), i had to write a bit about what i thought the world would be like in 5 million years. here is what i suggested:It is hard to believe how much technologies have changed over a period of 5 million years. Truthfully, I had expected great advancements ? if Windows could progress from a text-based operating system to one with a 3D graphical user interface within 20 years, then what could happen in 5 million years? The one thing I had always dreamt of is finally here. This is a technological revolution. GONE are all the electronic appliances of the 21st century. GONE are televisions, radios, mobile phones, MP3 players, even computers! Everything is controlled through the use of one thing. A thing which we have had since the dawn of day; a thing which can be more powerful than weapons of mass destruction in terms of? destruction? but which has been harnessed by 50020th century scientists, as a source of renewable energy. A source of energy more powerful than nuclear energy, or solar power. The MIND.Do you want to play a movie? Well then, wish it and POOF! A high quality, DivX video begins to play inside your head. Play, stop, rewind, fast forward ? these options were previously buttons on your remote control, however know are just commands of the mind. Want to listen to music? Wish the title, and it is immediately streamed to you from the Internet. What Internet? There is no need for the Internet anymore! You have everything you need within your cranium. Feeling thirsty? Think of some Coke, and Voila! There it is, in your hand.Of course, all of this is existent assuming there are still humans around ? humans with the mind required to be able to do all of these magnificent things. Five million years is quite a long time, and if humans can place a hole in the ozone layer and destroy a third of the world?s forests in less than 100 years, then the Earth?s environment may have become too hostile for human life in 5 million years? time, due to global warming and a lack of oxygen (which is in turn due to a lack of vegetation). My belief is that in 5 million years, humans will be extinct.Due to the carelessness of the humans towards the environment, global warming was recognised as a serious issue too late ? in the 50000th century. By that time, trees could only be found in museums, and the temperature had risen to over 80 degrees Celsius. Humans, although they had evolved and were slowly adapting themselves to this harsh, new environment, failed, as all the other animal species had done. They will be remembered as the last animal species to be living on Earth. And therefore the last to die out.Control of everything via the mind has always been a dream for me, however what is the point in having these technologies if there is no-one alive to be able to experience them? Caring for the environment is a serious issue, and now, after traveling 5 million years into the future and being the only living thing there, I know that only too well. Something must be done, and it must be done NOW. We must all contribute if we are to minimise the effects of global warming. Let us not wait until the 50000th century is upon us before we act.
  17. right, now i believe that political correctness is getting completely out of hand. last year, i gathered from what i have heard in the news and on the net, and compiled a lost of the top 10 politically incorrect words and phrases for 2006. please note that this is in especial reference to australia:1. Macaca ? Might have changed the political balance of the US Senate, since George Allen?s (R-VA) utterance (which is an offensive slang term for Indians of the Sub-continent in the West Indies) surely has impacted his election bid.2. Global Warming Denier ? Since there are those who now believe that climate changed has moved from scientific theory to dogma; there are now proposal that ?global warming deniers? be treated the same as ?holocaust deniers:? professional ostracism, belittlement, ridicule and, even, jail.3. Herstory for History ? ?Herstory? again attempts to take the male element out of ?HIS story?. Though there are nearly 900,000 Google citations for ?HERstory, they are all based on a mistaken assumption. When Herodotus wrote the first history, the word meant simply an ?inquiry?.4. Flip Chart. The term can be offensive to Filipinos, please use ?writing block?.5. 1a and 1b -- The headmistress of a grade school in Midlothian (Scotland) had to split a grade into two equal classes. Though the split was purely alphabetical, parents objects because those with children in '1b' feared they may be perceived as academically inferior to those in '1a'.6. Politically Incorrect Colors -- Staff at a coffee shop in Glasgow refused to serve a customer who had ordered a 'black coffee', believing it to be ?racist.? He wasn?t served until he changed his order to 'coffee without milk'. Around the world we have reports of the word ?black? becoming emotionally charged and politically correct or incorrect depending upon one?s point of view.7. Oriental ? Asian, please. Though this is generally a purely American phenomenon. In Europe, Asians prefer the term Oriental, which literally means ?those from the East?.8. Menaissance ? The rise of a ?manliness? culture or male renaissance. Replaces metrosexual, which evidently appealed to women but not men.9. Momtini -- A Michigan mother invented the term ?momtini? as an act of rebellion against ?parental correctness?. This has raised the hackles of child protection and ?anti-alcohol? groups.10. ?Our Mother and Father Who are in Heaven? ? From a new, ?inclusive? Bible translation (The Bible in a More Just Language) that replaces what it believes to be ?divisive? teachings of Christianity.Bonus: Political Correctness -- 'Equality Essentials,' a 44-page training manual book called has been used for staff training courses at Kirklees Council in West Yorkshire suggests that the term Political Correctness is now politically incorrect.once this year is over, i will compile some for 2007... there are some good ones, this year...
  18. well, now that vista actually has come out, i hate it @ i reckon it is just awful!i would rant about its awfulness, however maybe i should do that in the vent, because there might be some nasty stuff involved...if you really want a good operating system, then find the linux distribution most suitable for you. i reccommend ubuntu as the best gnome distribution, kubuntu as the best kde.yes, i do believe vista was made to be a copy of mac. if you compare the now released leapard with vista, the similarities are evident.
  19. well, to be honest i think that people have diverted from what the original use of mobile phones is: to call people!right now, if you really think about it, we use phones for entertainment more than we do for calling people!we all want the latest phone with the latest features... but essentially, all phones do what they are made to do: enable you to call and maybe text people.now, we have walkman phones and camera phones and phones with a 7 mpx camera etc.i think it is time to stop with all of these 'features'ok, i know that some phone advancements are really beneficial (bluetooth is an excellent example - i love bluetooth!), but phone companies are probably racking their brains 24/7 for new things to incorporate into their phonesnext thing you know, we have phones that make champagne :)seriously, i think it should stop at this. ok, if you have some really good improvement such as bluetooth then release it, but things like shake control of new walkman phones are maybe going a bit too far. you may have notice that because phones are getting more and more crammed with the so-called 'features', they are becoming more bulky. i mean, just look at the iphone, or the n95!i am currently using a w300 and i am proud of it. i love se phones because sony ericsson are perhaps the only company that actually listens out for what se users want in their phoines, and incorporate just that into them. no extra stuff, only what we wnat and need. i am very happy with my phone because it is not old, yet not state of the art (it came out a year ago). it does everything i want it to d and slightly more. it was not very expensive (300, i bought it for 200 australian dollars).i use my phone for entertainment as well, but mainly calling.for me, phones should be treated as necessities.
  20. i have no idea how, but when i began school at the age of six, my english was quite fluent.right now, i probably speak english better than most people actually born in australia.at home, we still speak bulgarian. no english.i guess a person's ability to talk a language comes from their surroundings: if they talk to other people etc. for me, the main place where i learn english, and the only place where i speak english, is school.to me, english is a more prominent language than bulgarian, however technically it is a second language because my native language is bulgarian.however, when i write it is always in english. i can neither read nor write in bulgarian.

well, truthfully, i have always used textpad. it is my favourite editor for everything. it is good for coding up everything, especially web design. it has a very friendly user interface and can be customised to suit your needs (for me, it is web designing needs, but i pride myself in knowing all of the code i need to use (html, css, javascript etc.) off by heart, so what i have open in the left toolbar is hex colours, something i always have troubles with i only use notepad for quick use, when i cant be screwed opening up textpad. maybe for very quick changes. i originally had the textpad evaluation version (just about the same as full but with nag screens telling you to pay up). i like using it for various reasons, such as: -code colouring. - if you are editing something like a java source file, textpad colours in different parts of the syntax with different colours. this helps me see the "pattern" of the code when scrolling through it and looks better than notepad -word wrap. - instead of having to go to the edit menu (in notepad) to make the text of a long line wrap to the next, the word wrap option is on the tool bar, so it only takes one click (or a keyboard combination press) to turn it on or off. -line numbers. - you can have line numbers displayed (they are shaded light grey and to the left of the page. this helps with debugging code. the debugger might say "error on line 13" or something like that, and if i was still using notepad, i would have to count the number of lines manually to get to the right one. now I just scroll down till i see the right line number. a great time saver. -view in web browser button. - if you are editing a web page and want to see what it looks like in a web page, there is a button on the toolbar (it looks like the globe). click it and your web browser will open with your page displayed. this is also a great timesaver - no more hunting for the file in explorer to preview it. textpad has many other great time saving features, such as advanced text finding (look in several files at a time), a clip library (which lets you insert html tags, html characters and other non-standard characters to your document quickly, and auto-indentation (so that you dont have to worry about making your code "look pretty" - it does it for you). if you are a hobby coder and are fed up with the limitations of notepad then give the textpad evaluation a try. you can visit the homepage of textpad here
  22. can i just say that when i first read your topic title, i thought you were joking.the answer to your question is quite simple: of course there isn'tdidn't it ever pop into your mind that there is NO 'largest' number? as csp pointed out, there is no limit to the number of prime numbers there are, so it would therefore be madness to try and find the largest prime number!
  23. well, i have quite strict views on "hacking". i think that hacking is the unauthorised use of computer and network resources. i also happened to know that the term 'hacker' originally referred to a very gifted programmer.i really hate people who call themselves hackers but are really obtaining other people's passwords through very amateur methods. at our school, it was recently discovered that someone had installed a key logger on every computer in the school, and now people are going around saying 'oh, look, i've hacked your password'. no, you haven't, stupid. you have merely read the log file.others believe that looking at someone while they're typing their password is a very good method of 'hacking'. no, it isn't. you have merely looked over a person's shoulder while they are typing their password and have the mental capacity to remember what they have typed.i believe that REAL hacking is code. if you can make your own little bit of code to get into the school admin, for example, then THAT is hacking. no, not looking over a teacher's shoulder while they are slowly typing it one key at a time. anyone can do that. being a real hacker takes SKILL, and that is why i heavily admire hackers.at school, i am an honourary member of the programming club. whenever anything bad happens on the school computers, then we are the ones who always get blamed for it. the teacher who supervises our meetings is probably the only one ion the school who believes us when we say that it isn't us. the school admin have heavily restricted access to the school computers, and this is something which i don't like. we have an internet filter provided by the state department of education and training, which is now a WHITELIST this means that they have blocked access to all sites, and then MANUALLY unblock the sites that they think we should have access to. now, i partially understand them, however i think they have gone too far with this. i mean, what's the point of being able to go into google if you cannot access any of the websites that come up as search results? it is horrible! we are forced to use cached versions of websites to even be able to view them! and also Xisto, and therefore my website, are blocked @now to the actual school computers. we have a 'student terminal server', which we are required to log in to if we want to use programs like word, photoshop etc. the only problem is, the server is so laggy that it takes photoshop (7.01, by the way ) an hour to start up! the only things you can use without logging on are internet explorer, notepad and wmp (windows media player). that's basically it.you're not really meant to access your usb without logging on, however we at programming club found out that right clicking on the start menu -> explore works! we can access all those folders :Daround a week ago, they disabled this as well! luckily though, my usb is u3, so i can access it at any time via the u3 launchpad icon in the taskbar.however, i dont like these restrictions, and i dont like the student terminal server. AND i dont like the proxy filter of the det.so, my question is: taking in mind all of these restrictions which have been imposed on us, do you think it is ethical if:a) we at programming club installed dev c++ (our favourite c++ coding program), because all the school offered was an extremely outdated version of visual c++, which i HATE anyway, and we have to use it from the student terminal server, on where we dont have to log on (where we cant explore the start menu now, ie where you are when you turn on the computer, before you log on), and did this on all of the school computers, so that we could use dev c++, a good program, and not lagging on the student terminal server, and; we have a great urge to hack both the school admin account, to reinstate some of our computer privileges, or even better to create our own little admin account for discreet use, however we will not misuse this (we would use this for example installing dev c++, textpad, updated photoshop and other programs which are necessities for us). also, to find a way around the proxy filter, because it is really killing our internet usage :(do you think these things are morally correct to do?
  24. wow, thank you so much! i love it!will be put into use asap, you will be given credits :)thanks for the help
  25. ok, here are the steps to make your firefox browser go up to 40 times faster! firstly, in your address bar, type in about:config once it opens, it should be something not too dissimilar to this... browse to the entry network.http.pipelining double-click on it next, browse to network.http.pipelining.maxrequests double-click on it change the integer to 100 double click on the value network.http.proxy.pipelining once you have found it double-click on network.dns.disableIPv6 double-click on plugin.expose_full_path right-click on any value choose new and then integer you should then see the following screen: type nglayout.initialpaint.delay and click ok enter 0 in value filed and click ok right-click -> new -> integer type content.notify.backoffcount as the preference name type 0 in the value field create another integer with a name of ui.submenuDelay and a value of 0 create a final integer with a name of browser.cache.memory.capacity. this tells how much ram is allocated to firefox. the best value is 16384 THE LAST THING (yes, you're getting excited!) that you have to do is browse to the browser.cache.disk.capacity double click on it change the value to 15000 there you go! done! this should not only speed up your firefox, but it should also speed up your system (less ram allocated to firefox)! i reccomend that you do not modify any of the other settings unless you know what you are doing.
