Excellent Computer Related Practical Jokes....
bthaxor replied to KansukeKojima's topic in General Discussion
i have a better one this always baffles the school admin at our school, because they don't know what's going on. what you do is... our school admin have blocked anything in the way of editing the computer's preferences... command prompt, regedit, right clicking on taskbar and stuff. but one thing they forgot to fix was internet preferences. so what i do is, i go to this wallpaper: Cool Wallpaper and i right click, save as desktop background this works at school then what i do is end explorer.exe (taskbar, desktop and all of that), leaving only the wallpaper! then you stand aside and watch the techers puzzle over what happened! another good one is the old bsd trick if you have a computer with windows 95 or 98 installed, or know someone who does, then do the following: -open windows explorer -type in C:/con/con be amazed! that's how simple it is. a three-step blue screen of death. either this, or you create a webpage which automatically refreshes to this location, such as this one (this is one of my webpages) enjoy! -

bthaxor replied to CopperZepher's topic in Dating And Relationships
hmm...hmm indeed...i must say that this is a very unusual situation. firstly, why do you see her every day? you say that you are forced to - how is that so?also, if you know that it is not going to work out, then why do you keep trying to get her attention???look, im gonna be honest with you, ok? its never going to work out. not when she's married, not when she has kids, and certainly not since you're 11 years younger than her.sorry mate. -

hasn't anyone ever thought of what it may be like in the future? i always have! here is the imaginative side of what i hope the future is like:future computers:-based on concept on microsoft surface, but have LINUX installed on all computers -only browser: firefox-have 99 inch screens, hd, laserfuture mobiles:-are purely controlled by what your mind desires-no pin codes - need to THINK of your password to enter-are like those things you see in the movies - where the device is just like one of those cool 4d hologram projectors, so you sorta control it by touch as well. my imagination stretches far :Dfuture gaming:-driving games will be the next best thing to real driving. i am not sure how to put this into words, but if you can imagine the best driving simulation...-you will now play games via a 3d network ie not through the internet. YOU get to be the main character of the game, YOU get to do all those awesome moves and kill the baddies!future people???:-robots!-hopefully these will have something that is better than artificial intelligence, which is quite limiting in terms of the number of new things that can be learnt-labor will be australian government :Dbut on a serious note, the future may bring some surprises. i believe it is inevitable that not only cloning will be common at some point in the future, but we will be able to bring dead people to lifebut these are just my far-fetched views... what do you think the future will be like?

*applauds* Yea i loved the prospect of SC2, it kept me surfing the web for like 3 years, and when i heard the rumours and everything i was at the IGn website refereshing this one web page this guy kept updating using wireless internet at the convention to see if it came out. When i heard the news i preceeded to run around my street screaming, no joke, there are other Starcraft players on my street But it would be a tragedy if it couldnt live up to its name, cause its got some pretty damn big shoes to fill, cause creating a game so advanced and great for its time is pretty hard. Cause Starcraft was like a huge new thing for its time, but like you said sonesay, they have had quite a experience so they should pull this off pretty darn nicely, but this experience is what kinda scares me. I hope to god that it isn't going to be like WoW and have the whole pay to play option for online play, cause battlenet is was really players find the most enjoyment in (or maybe its just me, i don't know). I just really hope that SC2 has one really big, but hidden, thing thats gonna make it totally awesome Starcraft has such a large range of strategies and the fast paced action is awesome, i completely agree with you, i can't believe i forgot that. :S

Starcraft, some people hate it, some people love it, some people don?t give a damn. But I?m just wondering, what?s your opinion about this game? What do you think has led this game to become so big, why do you keep playing it? What keeps you hooked onto this game, I probably won?t get a straightforward answer, but lately I?ve been thinking a lot about this and I want to see what you think. In my opinion, Starcraft is an amazing game, it's an old game, but it's a classic. People in Korea have like an entire channel dedicated to this game and hold tournaments, (The Boxer guy help improve Terran's reputation even more i remember) and it's a game that Blizzard holds proudly in their name as a great RTS game. Starcraft didn?t have the best graphics or probably not the best plotline (but you got to admit it got pretty good), but what I personally think made Starcraft the best was the strategy involved. The three races, Terran, Zerg and Protoss were balanced out quite evenly with building restrictions, unit restrictions, and the general style of gameplay. Terran was best with micro, zerg is even and protoss best at macro-ing. This was a game where you had millions of choices and strategies with all these units and each of their abilities and you could choose your own style to use this abilities to your advantage, like you rush them early, maybe build a good defence and then create an airfleet or just go all out ground units with little defence, the choice was yours in this game. That is what made Starcraft a classic game in its field, so it shouldn?t be compared with other games such as Diablo which are RPGs. Starcraft has had its own unique impact on gamers around the world at the time, and has still held a steady fanbase to today. People have coined the term zerging and that guy on youtube made that over-4000-a-like video about pylons. Even DOTA (Im not sure if anyone plays this here, probably some do) is based on a Starcraft map from what I have heard/read, so Starcraft has had quite an impact on our gaming commmunity. Now Starcraft 2 is in progress and that is going to try and fill in the boots starcraft has left behind, with major additions in graphics and units, while trying to keep that balance and the need for strategy in the game, not just constant spamming of one unit in a game fighting the exact same unit in a battle or pure luck and whose hands are the fastest. The campaign editor is something that has kept Starcraft alive for so long, as well as other programs that help people create maps using the Use Map Settings feature in Starcraft to make Bounds, RPG and Defence(Which I personally love) maps to name a few. You have to say, evne if you don?t make maps, you have most likely played a map made by someone that has kept you stuck to that map, and this game, to make Starcraft that much better. Fastest possible map is like a legendary Melee/FFA map in Starcraft that has led many people to make alterations, improvements and remakes to this map, adding minerals, gas, making it 4v4 etc. This map must have been good and must have brought enjoyment to a lot of people to have been so heavily altered, cause no one will have altered or redone a really bad map so many times. The plotline has also been a personal favourite of mine.Kerrigan?s mutationThe Hybrid?s *gasp*Nearly everybody?s deathsThe UEDThere was just something there for meThat just made me love the plotline. I wasn?t a very avid fan of the missions, sure there were a few that caught my interest, but somehow the plotline really got to me, it was fun to use that hero and do so and so, and see what is going to happen. :)Brood war was damn wicked as well for me, that is what truly I think, balanced out the game and made that game truly awesome. With the additions of lurkers, medics and valkyries, which balanced the game out for terrans, and the addition of the corsair to help out Protoss?s poor air to ground attack. The plotline also developed very very well there in the expansion, leaving so many unanswered questions that have also kept its own little fan group. This game with its balanced races, custom maps, infinite number of strategies and a sprinkling of a little bit of humour (ever double clicked that marine more than once? )Starcraft is a game worth of having such a large fanbase. But that?s what I think, maybe you can elaborate, wanna discuss something about it, go ahead, I like to hear your views, and not just mine

Sms With Text As Sender Address And Not Numbers! how is that ??
bthaxor replied to kuberan_swe's topic in Mobile Phones
hmm... sorry kuberan, but i may not be able to help you here. i am a heavy user of my mobile phone, and i have taken it apart, i heavily customise it. so far, though, i have not come across something like this. are you sure that this was send through a mobile phone? are you sure this is not just from your operators as standard routine? ok, you seem to think it is. well, nowadays, you can send text messages via a computer! just go to http://www.ipipi.com/ this service allows you to send or recieve text messages from a computer. so i am thinking: what most phone operators probably do is have somewhere a database with all of their customers' numbers, and then when necessary to send a message to all of them, they just send via services such as this. once again, i am not certain of this. but it is the best i can think of. -

How Do You Arrange To Complete Your Sites?
bthaxor replied to Forbez's topic in Websites and Web Designing
this probably isn't a very good method, and it is time-consuming, but it works for me!i first get the design together. i make a blank template upon which every other page will be based upon (with all the scripts etc.) this becomes my index file.then, once that is done, i just fill in my content -
what is the best screen recorder in you opinion? i am told it is super screen recorder. the video quality is, admittedly, very good. however, i can't seem to be able to get the recorder to recognise my microphone (which is the original inbuilt microphone of the laptop). has anyone else had these problems?

bthaxor replied to whyme's topic in Science and Technology

I NEED THE INTERNET!!! -
Are You For Or Against Cloning? what would be your reason?
bthaxor replied to adriantc's topic in Science and Technology
i'd better be careful with my wording here... cloning is not such a simple topic as it may seem...as other people have mentioned, cloning is basically making a genetic copy of something.now, i am one person who is very interested in science, and i have been following this topic very closely. based on the information that i have gathered and my personal opinion, here are the main fors and againsts for cloning.Fors:-possibility of creating a human repair kit. This could mean elimination of donor organ rejection and regeneration of damaged tissues.-the cloning of endangered species or cloning of the DNA of extinct species - this is self explanatory-it could enable people to raise an identical child after an unfortunate death. -the ability to clone genetically modified animals. These animals could include cows that produce milk with no lactose etc.Againsts:-just because we can, does it mean we should?-cloning is against the rules of nature - in nature, no two things are meant to be the same-a very large percentage of cloning efforts end in failure (277 attempts to clone Dolly the sheep).-clones that do survive often have fatal or problem causing issues in their genes. -cloning will create a black market for stolen or discarded embryos. -cloning will stop genetic improvements to a species. This is because genetic improvements usually occur through sexual reproduction, which result in a mixing of the genes of the mother and father. now, i will move onto a more recent topic: human cloning. you may be surprised to learn that human clones already exist. these clones aren't created in labs - they are twins. twins are genetically different to their parents but are genetically identical to each otherthe prospect of human cloning, also, brings forth many arguments for and againstin my opinion, cloning is a good idea as long as it is used appropriately. maybe, we just have to wait for technologies to advance a little bit more, so governments will allow the legal research into embryonic cells and their cloning. Notice from rvalkass: Double post merged. -
i would also like to see more apps dedicated to music, imaging and video. this is why i like se phones - sony have taken a great leap towards that goal (good music, video, imaging), with their walkman and cybershot series. the video remains to be seen.there are not that many (if any) good audio/video/graphics editors for mobile out there. i only know the photo/music mate, and video/music dj from se.
-
i am an absolute fan of se phones. as i mentioned in another of my posts, i refuse to buy a phone unless it is a flip or (preferably) slide phone from the sony ericsson walkman series.i think that se phones rule for a number of reasons:-they have really easy menu navigation (the first time i picked my phone up, without ever having used an se phone until then, i was able to find my way to wherever i wanted easily).-really good designs-good features (especially the walkman series!)-dedicated in terms of music, video and imaging (this is where the 'sony' part really starts to kick in!)
-
i own a sony ericsson w300i and i couldn't be any happier with it! it is very easy to customise, and as with all se phones, has easy menu navigation, a dedicated walkman player, fm radio... all that good stuff.i have not had any issues with it so far. if you know me, then you would know that i am an absolute fan of se, and i will refuse to buy a phone unless it is an se walkman, and it is flip or (preferably) slide.my mum has a nokia 6131. my dad has a nokia 6101. to tell you the truth, i like my phone the best out of those!
-
i think you're forgetting the two other mobile designs: slide and swivel personally i favour the designs in this order: slide, flip, swivel, brick (normal).slide - advantages: compact, stylish, allows for larger screen disadvantages: sometimes buttons can get too crampedflip - advantages: relatively compact, convenient to use (don't need to lock phone), allows for larger and easily accessable keys disadvantages: can become bulky sometimes, screen size isn't all that great, don't allow for a good camera, waste battery life on external displayswivel - advantages: the most compact of them all, allows for good key size as well as screen size, allows for more camera megapixels disadvantages: can be cumbersome to open, don't like the design, could accidentally open, annoying hinge at one end of phone.brick - advantages: allows for very big camera, allows for large screen size disadvantages: often have SUCH SMALL BUTTONS!!!, must always lock/unlock phone just in case, the ugliest design of them allwell, there you go - that is what i believe on the issue of mobile designs
-
truthfully, i would like to one day see free internet from mobile phone service providers. as we move further into the 21st century, the need for access tot he internet becomes greater. i would find it really useful to be able to use my phone as an ftp client. put files on phone, go to internet (which is free), and upload!
