Thanks nightfox . I did all that (again), and nothing. I didn't find any edited/deleted posts. I never spam or not give proper credit, whether accidentally or intentionally. And I didn't request any services whatsoever. Anyway, I really don't have that big a problem with losing the points. Points are earned by participation at the forum, and I'm participating . I was just worried that this might happen again, to me or to other members. But I guess the bottom-line here is: I'm the only member who had an unexplained point loss. Thank you all for you help and suggestions . Warm regards.

VirtueMart - Your Free Shopping Cart Software Couple of days ago I posted a question on VirtueMart user registration, but it remained unanswered. May be my question was not clear enough to understand. However, just before this post, I conducted a forum search on VirtueMart but found only one forum posting and that is my earlier post. So I decided to give it an introduction here although presumably a lot of Xisto forum members are using it or its predecessor PHPShop VirtueMart works as a plug-in component with Mambo/Joomla ( A CMS and discussed many a time in Xisto forum) and can not operate as stand-alone application. The Salient Features: Products can be classified into different categories and sub-categories upto any level depth. That is classification like stores/books/poetry/Rabindra Nath Tagore/---- upto any level depth is possible unlike the container CMS ( Mambo/Joomla) which allows you to arrange topics like section/category/items only. It can be configured globally to act both as a Shopping Cart or as a Category listings ( without a shopping cart). Tax calculation and stock management. Manages downloadable products like e-Books/Softwares as well. You can create different Shopper Groups and assign users to different groups. Restrict "Display prices" to specific user groups! Front-end administration is possible. So you do not need to log on to the Back-end to manage stores. Manage different Currencies, Countries. VirtueMart uses safe SSL encryption (128-bit) and Shared SSL for payment processing. Order Management is completely automated. Downloads and Installations If you want to give it a FREE try first thing you require to do is to download VirtueMart Now you require to install VirtueMart as a Mambo/Joomla component and create a new menu item to point to your FREE online Shopping Cart. For a complete installation guideline please read this article. In short, it is definitely going to play a major role in providing eCommerce Solutions to the Mambo/Joomla users for its professional looks and feels, easy-to-use Adminstration and a wide range of Add-on features. Support So far as my earlier post is concered, I managed to get the answer here! Yes, that is surely one strong point of using it, VirtueMart has a very active support forum. Regards, Sid

Adobe Threatening Microsoft May strike a deal
iGuest replied to Alegis's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well once Open Document formats reach mainstream, PDF format will possibly become obsolete, I don't think it'll be able to compete unless they figure out how they can get PDF in most main stream programs and only providing it as their plug-in and charging for it will possibly not be their best intentions. Office needs a method to convert their documents to PDF at this stage for cross compatibility.PDF is a good format, but Open Document format will be better and will become de facto instead of these proprietary formats.Cheers,MC -
Absolutely not, Jeigh. I checked that already . All my posts are valid and (hopefully) helpful, and I try my very best to make sure they're all above being modified or deleted. So no, I don't think that's it. But thanks for your trying to help .

A couple of hours ago, my hosting credit was somewhere around 23-24 points. Now, it went all the way down to 11.Naturally, I haven't transfered points or requested any services that might require point deducation, or else I wouldn't have a problem .Would an admin kindly take a look at this?

Today, I recieved an e-mail from CNet, one of the top IT news and information Websites, discussing a recent technological issue from a social perspective. It was fun to read, and it was even more fun to consider what you guys might think about it. Here's what the e-mail said: So alright. The articles says that this fast aero-Internet connection is still a U.S. issue, but no doubt that very soon it's going to be a world-wide thing. So we all have the right to discuss it and share our thoughts about it. I don't think anyone would disagree that this should be a great technological advancement, and particularly one heck of a time-saver for business oriented folk. So it's not the technological aspect I'm worried about . Like the article writer said, the social aspect might be the problem. I for one have a definite problem with it. I can't stand listening to people yapping about all day long, and I consider the time I spend flying a somewhat peaceful time-out. Some of you may share the same view, and some may be thrilled to the prospect of listening to other people's private conversations . So what's your take on this? Do you think there should be certain limits on the activities for which aeroplanes Internet connections could be used, or would that be too much of a personal freedom invasion? Are there other problems that might arise? Or is the social annoyance factor being blown way out of proportion? I will peronsally wait before sharing my own thoughts on this until I hear what you guys have to say about it .

Free Templates - Brushes - Filters And More!
iGuest replied to ninshapower's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
That's a great site for beginners.I personally won't be useing any of the things there since I enjoy making my own stuff, though I will reffer a few of my friends there. The photoshop tutorials are extreamly helpful for people who have just started with photoshop. The templates are also good, however many people will use them makeing your site very un-original.So I reccomend that you make your own site desings. -
Unfortunately this is quite common with legit software too, so I'm not sure how they assume some are not genuine. There's many ways around this, but explaining that here violates quite a lot so I can only suggest you google or do direct it to MS and see what they can do.Cheers,MC

Most forums have an annoying little habit ... their URL looks something like this: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Obviously, this doesn't help much with the Search Engines. You could play around in your forum source code to remedy that, but not all of us are skilled enough to do it. Fortunately, there are people who are, and who did take care of all the dirty work for us. And I want to share with you a module called SMFSEO, which is geared towards (surprise, surprise) SMF boards. SMFSEO is a module that turns your forum links into a format that's totally SE-friendly. But not only it's friendly, it's also very effective in increasing your SE-ranking, if used wisely. The URL format into which SMFSEO changes your normal URLs can be one of two options: 1. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ 2. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It also provides automated redirection of old-style URLS through 301 redirection, making sure there are no dead links. It generated unique Meta Keywords and Meta Description tags for each topic and forum. And it can automatically create XML sitemaps of an entire forum, supported by the major search engines. After putting this module through rigorous testing, I can happily say that it works like a charm . But there are a couple of setbacks, even though they're admittedly not that bad... It's a beta module... I didn't run into any problems with it, but still, it is a beta. It works only with SMF 1.0.7... Actually, I didn't get a chance to try it with other SMF versions yet. If I ever get to it, I'll keep you posted with the results. It requires 4 to 5 steps, one of them involving editing of a .htaccess file... Still, all those steps are very well documented and aren't that tricky, even if you know nothing about PHP or coding in general. So there you have it. A nice little tool for your SMF board. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Now, I think the best way to install this mod, is to simply log into your SMF Administration area, click on Package Manager, scroll to the bottom and click on Download New Packages, click on Browse beside the phrase Simple Machines Mod Site, and scroll down until you find (or simply search for) SMFSEO 0.1 Beta. Alternatively, you can just go to the SMFSEO Website, and follow the instructions there. Enjoy!

Funny indeed but it also shows evil effect of relying heavily on Off-page factors for ranking a page in Google SERP. Also it indicates a simple SEO trick to increase your ranking in Google SERPs. Oflate though Google is suspecting IBLs more before awarding credit, still, chances for unfair gaming still remain. Regards,Sid

The most important thing when talking about hacking/cracking/phreaking is to get our definitions straight. The Hacker culture - or subculture, if you will - is an old and complicated one, and there are many terms that are used in it. White-hat hackers, black-hat hackers, script-kiddies, etc. are but a few. But to keep it simple, here's the commonly agreed-upon definitions of the Hacking culture... Hacker: A person who is very skilled at computing in general. For example, a programmer, an IT-professional, a computer sciences expert, an ensuthiastic computer fanatic, etc. Notice that this definition has a very wide range. But the media has long degraded it in convincing the masses that a hacker is a person that uses his superior computer knowledge for malicious purposes. This couldn't be further from the truth. A true is only interested in knowledge. Even if (and when) a hacker gains unauthorized access to a system, it's not because he/she wants to steal or sabotage that system, but rather because he/she wants to gain more knowledge about the ins and outs of that system, purely for fun. Cracker: A person who has a higher than normal degree of technical comptency, but who uses his knowledge for malicious ends. Crackers are, by definition, a sub-group of Hackers, but since no self-respecting hacker would ever support a cracker's behaviour, Hackers in general fight for making the distinction clear to the public. Under these two broad categories, you can easily classify other definitions. So long as you follow the rule of thumb Hacker: good, Cracker: baaad!, you're going to be just fine .

Video Support And Performace Under Linux
iGuest replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I run Fedora Core 5 which you can say in the multimedia side of things is slack due to them not distributing their system with codecs, etc but you can still grab them and I can say, I've ran all sorts of media clips without any problems, including proprietary formats from Microsoft and protected DVD medias, etc. There's so many different Media Players for Linux, and VLC is quite good but I use MPlayer as my default Media Player. It definitely replaces my Window alternatives.Cheers,MC -
I wonder if this is any different from uninstalling the QoS from your network device, since I always uninstall this due to these reasons but am unsure if it has any effects because as I say, I've always done it and never ran the network with QoS so I have nothing to compare, so if someone could verify this (I would do it myself but I am rarely on Windows) is a similar technique rather than altering the registry I'd be glad to know.Cheers,MC

Well, Omkar, if your goal from starting this thread is for people to disclose the various versions of Microsoft's Operating Systems they have, I might as well pitch in... DOS 6.2 and 6.22 (on floppy disks) Windows 3.1 Windows 3.11 Windows 95 Windows 98 Second Edition Windows Millennium Edition Windows 2000 Professional Edition Windows XP Corporate Edition (multiuser license) Of course, all of them are legal, authentic versions. So does that mean I'm a Microsoft fan? Absolutely not. In fact, at times I can be 100% anti-Microsoft. But frankly, my family would never consider using any other OS, and I'm always looking forward to test new software, so I go ahead and purchase Windows Operating Systems. I don't think I'm going to get Vista though, since XP is doing a great job for my family. As for me, I run a dual-boot system between a version of Linux I created from scratch and Mircosoft Windows XP. I'm not going to discuss why I'm not such a raving fan of Microsoft, since this is a subject that's been brutally discussed before, and the guys here have it pretty well covered. But I can understand where you're coming from. Windows gives you what you need, so you have no reason to look for anything more. I suppose there's nothing wrong with that, from a pragmatic, arguably short-sighted view. Anyway, thanks for starting a thread that provoked some members into writing very interesting posts . Warm regards, Mobham

Thanks for your response and special thanks to m^e for the link to your previous post in this regard. It is very informative. Now let us come back to the topic. So far as I have understood from different forums and blogs for the W/Ms that this issue need be addressed with much care now-a-days. I think a post by Google Engineer Matt Cutts in his blog deserves a reading. Here is the link: MattCutts.com-SEO-Advice-url-Canonicalization/ Also one more point to note: Using both the www and non-www version will affect the Page Rank of both the versions. Your www version may have a PR5 while non-www version may have a PR3. Infact the crawlers consider https://www.eurodns.com/ as different from https://www.eurodns.com/login/. So as a rule of thumb, always use the same form of your url everywhere. Regards, Sid

FrontPage Vs. Dreamweaver
iGuest replied to crs_cwiz1405241504's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
IMO Dreamweaver is way better than Frontpage. It has the best WYSIWYG editer,a wide selection of tools and you have full control of what your doing.I'v got Frontpage though i'v never used it so I can't really comment on it,but from what i'v heard Frontpage is alot easier to use than Dreamweaver and it's good for beginers... -
The Importance Of Limiting Bandwidth ... a theory and a question.

That was a tremendously helpful explanation, Captain Ron. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it .
