What's Happening To Floppy Discs? The End of An Era
Trekkie101 replied to sky1405241473's topic in Hardware Workshop
Your right it maybe inst dead but it will be, there are so many other ways to work and save and its hard to find a computer thats been in use more than a yera to not have internet access or email. So theres always a way to transfer data without them. Plus they67 are very easy to damage. -
I dont like Iframes or Frames, im managing as it is to create sites without them and they dont help as much as they claim to be able to. there hard to design round and hard to actually learn but thats only my two cents.

Windows 95 Ibm Aptiva format gone wrong
Trekkie101 replied to JohnNitro's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well run Zone Alarm along with Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-aware and then youve got a great combination going that can be added to with Antivir, I havent had a problem in ages nothing beats them and there all free search google for liks but AntiVir is at http://www.avira.com/en/free-antivirus-windows plus good to hear after 5 formats you actually got it working. -
My site gets a few hits from google, i dont put any of my own meta data in, i dont use queryless URL's. Just standard SMF urls. it does Support queryless but i like them and i get ranked quite high, cant say ive noticed Xisto in google unless im searching for "Xisto" plus is it just me or is the conversations drying up a bit.

Google Preview Neat google-related firefox plugin.
Trekkie101 replied to jonypawks's topic in Search Engines
Cool looks neat, i wont try it as im happy to hit every link or open a new tab for them, but can anyone vouch for how useful it is or is it a hog of speed for nothing or does it do what its supposed to do? I hate installing plugins that dont do what there suppsoed to do, or ones that are badly coded, ive made a search plugin though and its pretty easy, anyone else done anything? -
thats more than good, thats amazing, i like it, how did you find that link, no matter its still really cool and im gonna post a link on my site, you dunno how cool that is to me, take a genuine iamge and make it into letters and words, thats cool, Try Star Trek its fun.

What's Happening To Floppy Discs? The End of An Era
Trekkie101 replied to sky1405241473's topic in Hardware Workshop
Floppies are dead, i dont see the use in them anymore, USB pen for me and CD or DVD, more storage, faster access just all round better technology, but sometimes I have to buy floppies incase in working on a no cd drive and its on an outdated OS. But i would rather not use floppies. -
There is one downfall fantastico takes forever to release new versions of things and often the update doesnt work, and im happy now that SMF (http://www.simplemachines.org/) is now included its the best Forum system ever.

Web Browsers Which Browser type do u prefer?
Trekkie101 replied to hast-webben's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The ioxy clean ads are great, but yeah Firefox is a great addition to the web, before firefox i never used to hear about the explouts in Internet explorer but when you get it they really show through like mad. -
Awstats is definately the best, it gives so much helpful data and helps me change things on my site, the bot tracker must be the best feature out of it all, it rocks and tell me whos visited using what keyword, i dont think i could replace it every.

Wap Sites Do you have a WAP site?
Trekkie101 replied to Rudy1405241475's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Short "cards" of text and pictures limited to one format, prue XML so there clean and to the point, not as pretty as main sites but could be with more work, ive built a wap site but i host it remotely aswell but it can be done on almost any server aswell, ill look it up, im sure you need to add something to something else in cpanel if the server doesnt automatically change to suit. -
Yes thats the right attitude, as he has said about OpenBSD it gets audited, right now firefox is being audited in a way by the open source community and were all testers, the minute a bug is found that is serious, I can see a lot of people working hard to help fix the bug and restore everyone to normal. I put more faith in open source than in corporate installations who waste money on making more than caring about there old projects.

Theres 3 of us on my site that commonly get it, I am on Tiscali, another member is on wanadoo, and another on AOL so i doubt its the ISP, any other ideas?

I keep getting a message that states t101.astahost.com refused the connection, ive checked my software on my site and its fine, my computer is fine as it happens to all my forum members. I have a URL re-direct when you try to access my site, which moves you to a folder which i used and didnt want to change so its not hidden content incase anyone thought it was. the problem is not all at the same time but at seoerate times we all get the dreaded message t101.astahost.com refused connection. Is there something on the Xisto end that is causing this.

Gbrowser And Gmessenger? Rumors of a Browser and IM...
Trekkie101 replied to CoolBradG's topic in Search Engines
I dunno, i would ditch MSNM anyday for anything google made. With a search chat log feature it would be very cool. The only problem i see with google is the non integration of it all, if gmail, messeging, firefox based browser were all linked somehow it would be very cool and would be very usefull and an OS sounds really cool but that may not be as popular are most people who dont know that much wouldnt like to change, maybe a linux with KDE grpahical ability with google theme would be cool though, ive never liked X-Window and Gnome. -
I was using Opera before Firefox but still believe its a much better browser. It must be safer in a way. What about Linux why dont we hear problems with that all the time. Why is the net awash with storys on Microsoft, they dont make good code thats the answer. they could clean it up but wont, they could re-write IE but wont, there only interested in the profit they make. Next there will be a subscription to them or something.

Worthy Hosting Scanning for worthy Paid hosting
Trekkie101 replied to varsoft's topic in Web Hosting Support
Since this place is a lot nicer than WebHostingTalk ill ask here, has anyone heard of hostdime, they have there own datacenter and I was thinking of getting a ressler plan with them. Ofcourse for free hosting ill always point people to Xisto as they have been great with me, but im not moving right now. Anyoen got an opinion on this company? -
Oh well here we go again. Glad i switched to firefox when i did, i used to never see exploits as exploits, infact i thought it was my fault. Is there a patch ready yet? Maybe microsooft should recomend firefox and that would solve a lot of trouble.

1 Terbyte would be amazing, ive got my 1 GB gmail already and im gonna look at the 2GB offer its getting so big now-a-days i suppose its they have relised that people wont use a lot of bandwidth and space isnt that expensive to get and they arent relying on people filling it so i bet they could push it further if they tried.

What Is: Rss? A short brief about RSS
Trekkie101 replied to madman9999's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Seams a bit brief and doesnt help that much,A better description is:RSS is a short file that can have up to 25 little titles that can be fed into a browser or reader and can display some output that. They are useful for news sites and sites that have a lot of news items that need to be counted. Search google for tips on how to make a feed and ask google what XML is about at the same time that will also help you.Made that up out my head maybe i should make a tutorial on maing a feed but i wouldnt want to confuse anyone. -
The google ads seem broken, they just post a lot of blankness to me, have you ever looked at mamma media ads they are nicer and have pictures and i have heard you can make more from them http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ i think the ad address is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ just if you need anymore ads.

Why The Speed Of This Website Is So Slow?
Trekkie101 replied to bluewind's topic in Web Hosting Support
what would really help is that the admin got rid of these silly URL's http://forums.xisto.com/topic/80649-topic/?findpost=1064279166 that is so unusful and slows the process down too much, they say talent fuels hosting but i cant share any talent if i cant get on could those URLs be removed and the normal re-instated it may take an extra crawl to be,listed but its way better and google do say they support quireed URLS aswell and just aswell so why these ones which arent useful to the members? -

Trekkie101 replied to sky1405241473's topic in Hardware Workshop
I dunno i like my USB stick its pretty useful and stores a lot, i only use floppys for tranfering small bits of source code to friends but USB sticks are great and you can get biggerones if you want.
