  1. I have seen a lot of abuse of the system here in the USA, where people who get paid for by taxes hospital care run to the doctor for every stinking little thing that goes wrong with them. So having some limits on what can be treated makes perfect sense, however, as always with government, there is no such thing as common sense. Having one's pacemaker hanging out certainly sounds to me like something that indeed should be fixed. You are lucky to be able to have health care though, and the ability to purchase drugs at reasonable prices. Without insureance here in the states that is not possible. Costs of health insurance are astonomical, but then again, so are hospital costs. So maybe the higher taxes aren't as bad as high taxes here AND health care insurance coverage???? I have hopes that organ donations will soon be a thing of the past. If they can clone a whole sheep, I see no reason that hearts and livers can't be grown in petre dishes. But I agree for now, the system in place as to who gets what is certainly not at all fair. He with the most money always wins, hands down, no exceptions. But that's kinda the way everything works.
  2. 8 days for not paying a ticket? While that does sound a bit extreme, I sure wish they would of caught one of the sorry dirt bags that I have warrents out on for writing me hot checks. That is stealing, no doubt about it, and would deserve jail time.
  3. Yes, we went with as many generic drugs as we could, and did have a couple persctiptions changed to cheaper stuff. And a few of his pills are on the $4 Walmart plan, but even cutting everything as best we can it's still more then he makes. I get those spam emails too, but they are mostly for Viagra, and lordy, I want him better, don't want to kill him!
  4. Ok, let me get this straight. You have a stalker at your back door, so you sit down and type a post on the internet casually talking about making money, jobs etc?????Why aren't you cleaning your gun or sharpening butcher knives or something constructive like that?
  5. My hubby's old age and hard life has finally caught up with him. He's a disaster. The doctors are wanting him to take all kinds of perscription drugs. We totaled up everything they want him to be on, and it comes out to $100 a month more than his entire social seurity check. So obviously, buying them here in the US is out of the question. We will be going to Mexico, but not for a few more months, and I'm not sure he will last that long if we don't get him started on something. If anyone has used and can recommend a good cheap pharmacy in Canada I would really appreciate links to it. My fear of buying online stems more from being ripped off by scam artists, that don't even run drugstores. He needs diabetes, heart medicine, cholesteral, enlarged prostrate, high blood preasure, about a dozen different perscriptions.
  6. WOW! Pretty shocking to hear this from someone your age! I look around at some of the people I see around me, or on the news and I constantly find myself wondering how dumb can people be, but I thought it was because I'm getting older, and either smarter or maybe just crankier, lol! Don't know what your going to do when you get older, then your really going to feel like all the world around you is one big giant crowd of morons. It's tough believe me!
  7. Hummmm......I wouldn't think that an ice storm in late spring when it was supposed to be warming would be a sign of global warming, global cooling maybe......But then, I'm not a rocket scientist either. Of course, I'm not sure even scientists are really sure about global warming. Most of you are probably way to young to remember, but way back in the beginnings of the space race, a bad crop year for farmers was blamed by some old timers as the result of shooting all those rockets into outer space.
  8. I was working out in the back of the kennel yesterday and got to looking at the trees back there, I saw tiny little apples, about the size of the end of my little finger on some of the trees back there! I really hope we get a crop next year, I'm afraid with the late bloom and fruit production it will sap the tree's strength for producing next year. I sure hope not, bad enough loosing one year, let alone 2. I'm pretty sure it did completely kill several trees, it's going to be a busy planting season next spring. Even prunning is going to be more difficult, I'm not sure which limbs are dead and which just went dormant early. I usually cheat in the fall while the leaves are still on and go around with a roll of duct tape and mark all the bad limbs to be cut off later in the winter. (lol, ah yes, yet another use for the wonderful duct tape, anybody here a Red Green fan? ) It seems the only tree crop here in Missouri that at least partially survived the cold snap were the black walnut trees. Some of those have bumper crops, though some are bare too. But that is fairly normal for black walnuts.

    My Dog

Yes, Shih Tzu's are little hair fallout factories! I made a lady very mad one day when she called and wanted to buy a shih Tzu puppy because she said they didn't shed. When I told her they did she got down right hatefull and said they didn't, that she had one and so she knew they didn't. Needless to say I didn't sell her a pup, but I am not going to lie to people to sell a dog. Just comes back and bites you in the butt. There are also some dogs that are just seasonal shedders, in the spring they shed out their winter coats, once those are gone they shed very little the rest of the year.
  10. Ok, I can't picture people not liking you because you are skinny. Got to be something else going on. And if there is a group of people that don't like you, it's simple enough to avoid them. Meet other people, avoid those that don't like you. However, if it comes to it that nobody wants to be around you, maybe you should analize your personality and figure out why people don't want to be around you and do what you can to change for the better.
  11. If you were playing soccer, you may of just temporarily pulled/pinched/strained a nerve. There are many nerves that run up and down along your spine that control lots of body functions, that you could of put in a bind. If it has not reoccured, and was just a one time thing, I would hardly worry about it. Certainly not go to a doctor. But then again, I'm one of those people that refuse to go to the doctor unless I am reasonable certain I am going to die if I don't. Think I've been to a doctor twice in the past 20 years.
  12. Wow, that SUCKS! I'm glad I didn't fall for their slick advertising trick! I read up on it once, you could have a 2 week trial before paying, but you could only see 2 movies, and they would just send one at a time. Buy the time you watched the first and mailed it back, you would not have time to mail back the second movie before your trial was up and you would end up paying for it anyway. And of course, you have no way of knowing when they would recieve the second movie you sent back, so it would be very unlikely you would get it "free." I'm quite sure they would charge you anyway, and just lie about when the movie got back. It just amazes me the way these companies come up with ways to cheat people.
  13. The only one I used for any length of time was icq. I did like it. Later I tried MSN, and yahoo, but one or the other threw my computer into terrible tantrums and I ended up removing both programs. My sister in law has AOL, and all the weird noises it makes drives me crazy. When I got my new computer, I never bothered to add another im program. Most of the time when I am online, I'm trying to work, and the instant messages are a bit of a nusance, interupting my train of thought, then I never get anyting done. I get side tracked too easily, and it's easier to goof off and chat with friends than to make myself do something constructive.
  14. Oh yes, I'm definatly a yellow food fan! Corn is my favorite vegetable, I slather butter on everything, and oh yes, love that guacamole!I was told by my former boss years ago when he set up a salad bar in the restuarant, that the color chartruse (I'm not sure how that's spelled, it's that yellow/green color) was supposed to depres the appetite and was recomended for coloring around an "all you can eat" sort of food bar.
  15. Wow, that really is a good idea. While it may not be of great benifit to the accident victum, it would be great for the loved ones at home wondering why they hadn't come home yet. And the rapid contacting of family members could help the victum in many cases so they could inform doctors of any medical conditions that person may have, like drug allergies etc.
  16. Well, my first ever email was Hotmail, I have tried lots of the other free ones, and I still have and use my hotmail account the most. It has all the great features, and is very dependable, it is rarely ever down, and is simple to use. I HATE outlook express. I'm always afraid I will open a worm or virus in it, since I haven't ever figured out how to delete an email in it without first opening it.
  17. I had to do a little digging on the grape/raison thing, as I couldnt' remember for sure the toxin involved, and I discovered I didn't know because it has not yet exactly been figured out as to why grapes do poison dogs. (raisons do too) They cause kidney failure, symptoms are vomitting and weakness, among several others. It only takes a few grapes to do a real number on a dog. Funny because a few years ago before this got started around on the internet about grapes, I had a standard schnauzer pet dog that would eat anything she saw me eat. Except grapes. Those were the only thing she wouldn't touch. I knew that dog was smart! So, to be on the safe side, keep those grapes and raisons safely out of your pets reach. And call your vet immediatly if your dog should sneak a few grapes.
  18. Wow, you just reminded me of something that happened some years back, I had nearly forgotten all about. My X hubby and I did on occasion take in "stray" humans. We were caretakers on a farm, had a good sized house, and always plenty of od jobs that needed done, so it gave us the oppertunity to occasionally help out a few folks that had had runs of bad luck and ended up homeless for one reason or another. We had a girl come and stay with us for awhile, she had an abusive husband she needed to get away from. I had another off the farm job, and I got her a job there, but she stayed with us a few months till she got enough money ahead to get a place of her own. Anyway, this gal was unbelievably clean in her personal habits. She bathed daily, used tons of deoderant, and was in no way at all dirty. One day some of the other girls at work asked me how I stood the smell of her. Honestly, I hadn't ever noticed her smelling bad, but all of the other workers there thought she was really dirty. It really surprized me, because I knew how clean she kept herself. I guess she realized she had a problem, and that was why she tried so hard to stay clean. But apparently there was just something about her body that she couldn't help. I really felt bad for her. So.....if it were me, I'd just get to class early.
  19. Sad though it may be, I suspect you are right, I doubt there will ever be any form of long lasting peace. Way too many people way too eager to force their own personal beliefs down the throats of others. So, you would think since they were forced to go that the public would of been MORE sympathetic to the poor returning soldiers. After all, they didn't want to go over there and do all those horrible things they were acused of.
  20. Wow, that is a shocker!!! I thought you really were a Saint! Hard to picture you as a bad boy. So far I've been pretty lucky and have squeaked by the moderators mostly unscathed. I did have some problems at first figuring out how to make posts and replys and there are a lot of rules that have to be read and it's easy to overlook some of them.
  21. Blood is a perfectly good source of protien, and in many cultures animal blood is made up into various tasty dishes, however, in most cases it is cooked. I think people get a little too worked up over bacteria. There is bacteria in EVERYTHING. The air you breath, the water you drink, the food you eat. All of it. A healthy body protects it'self from bacteria as long as you are healthy and everything is in working order. If you constantly attempt to avoid contact with bacteria eventually you will weaken your own immune system and loose the natural ability to fight off bacteria. But that is a bit off topic. It isn't the bacteria that is the entire problem with raw meat. It is the internal parasites that live in the muscle meat that when ingested, can infect the host. So...if you get stranded in the dessert and have to eat your camel, just make sure you get a good dose of wormer when they find you. You'll be fine.
  22. Well, I am glad you decided to read it afterall, I may be a lot of things, but a bleeding heart liberal is not on the list! It would be nice to think that we may of learned from our past mistakes and for that reason we are now showing more support for the boys comming home. I'm just not convinced that humans have improved that much since the 60's & 70's. I sure haven't seen much in the way of any other improvements. But there have been disenters for every war ever fought, and the likes of lunatics like Cindy Sheanne have made the same arguments and the same protests at every turn. Lets not forget Hanoi Jane Fonda, who's actions and stupidity cause the beating deaths of more than one soldier. While Sheanne may be working her mouth overtime, at least the only one she is hurting is herself. I don't think that being indifferent to to length of the war, or just not caring that they were back would cause protestors to harrass homecoming soldiers and call them baby killers. Thre is a major difference in "forgetting" they are comming back and being there to spit in their faces when they did come home. The honesty of our troops will play out for years to come, There are the prison scandals and the masicures that occure and captivate the media, but we all know that in any given population not everyone is going to play fair, there are always those that will do wroung, but it is not right to judge all by the actions of a few, as was done with the Vietnam vets. Oh, I don't think so either. I'm sure they are bigger and better than that, and they know how badly they were treated and would never want to see any other soldier treated that way. It's just got to be really hard on their own emotions to see the tremendous amount of support that they never got.
  23. Well, I was hoping to find some tasty recipies in this topic, but no such luck. My Hubby has just been diagnosed with diabetes, AND high cholestrol, so things aren't going to well in the food department here. The late spring freeze we had destroyed our entire fresh fruit crop, though I think even it has to be limited for it's sugar content. Seems like there just isn't much we can work with and it's not like we can just go out and buy all kinds of expensive stuff to use. So, if anybody has some simple, low sugar and low fat recipes, sure would love to see them.
  24. Hummmm....well, I've always heard the apendix secreated an enzyme that helped digest raw meat. And, while some of us may be more civilized than others, not everyone prefers their steaks well done, and then there's always that sushi stuff, so if ya'll don't mind, I'm hanging on to my apendix. I like my steaks "mooing and kicking" thank you. And since I give my apendix plenty to do, maybe it will just stay healthy.
  25. During the entire war with Iraq, there has been a tremendous outpouring of support for our troops. There are groups that organize letter drives, packages, and I even saw a bit on TV the other day about a Music company that is sending guitars over the the boys. Almost every car you see has a "Support Our Troops" ribbon on it. Seems as though every community has it's own little project going to show support for our military. And when a fighting man or woman finally gets to come home, the whole town seems to turn out, with fanfare, bands, news media, the whole ball of wax. They are given a real hero's welcome. And of course, I do believe they deserve it. Now lets go back a few years. The boys that came home from Vietnam were treated like dirt. They were often practicly smuggled back into the country at night. When it was discovered that some boys were comming in, the crowds showed up and spit on them and called them baby killers. My very own S. O. came home and when he went to the unemployment office to try to get back to work, the *BLEEP* working there looked at his military record and had the nerve to tell him, "Well, when Al Capone has an opening, we'll let you know." These boys fought and died and did their job and did what their government asked of them. Why were they treated like criminals and the Iraq troops are all considered hero's????? I really feel bad for the Vietnam vets. And now they are listening to all the fanfare the troops are getting now, that has got to hurt.
