What Is The Whole Point For Being "a Vegetarian"
sheepdog replied to hellgate's topic in Health & Fitness
Huh?????? Have you ever raised chickens???? I don't care what or how much you fed them, there is no way on gods green earth a chick is going to grow enough to be eaten in 2 weeks. I have no idea where you got that info, unless it was one of those wacko AR sites, and since none of them raise chickens why on earth woud you believe them? I can't imagine what you saw about butchering that was so bad. We have a profesional come out and kill our steer every year, one 22 round to the head and the steer jerks all 4 feet in the air and thumps down on the ground, stone cold dead. He is dead before he ever knew what hit him. Nothing inhumane about it. -
LOL, my thougths too when I read the post. Poor Bush, that man gets blamed for everything! Bush has nothing to do with the scientists that are experimenting with irriadating our food. Ways to process our food to make it "safe" have been going on since mankind killed his first whooly mamoth and drug it back to his cave to eat in the winter. Don't blame in on Bush for gosh sakes. And by the way, my comment about making food "safe" by irradiation was meant in sarcasim. The thought of drinking milk that was able to sit out on a warm shelf is not my idea of eating safe food.

Which Is Better? Vitamin tablets or the real food
sheepdog replied to hibbso's topic in Health & Fitness
Certainly, eating real food is the best way, however, this is not as easy to do an one may think. Even fresh fruit and vegtables purchased in your local grocery store may not contain enough of the proper nutrition. Many of these are picked immature/unripe in order to be able to handle shipment to the stores. Anyone who has ever eaten a fully ripe, home grown tomato knows what I'm talking about. There is no way you could pile up 40 lbs of them in a cardboard box and ship them anywhere without ending up with a bunch of mush in the bottom of the box. And with todays busy life styles, we often find ourselves unable to eat properly. Convience foods are one of the worst culprits for low nutritional value, the more they are processed the lower they become in actual quality. You also have to keep in mind balance in your diet. Eating healthy snacks like carrot sticks may fool you into thinking you are getting good nutrition, but you may actually be overdosing yourself with vitamin A. You almost have to be a diatician to really understand the way different vitamins and mineral work together to make optimal health. When dieting, sometimes the shear bulk of food needed to recieve enough vitamins makes it impossible to eat. Then there are personal differences in the requirnments from one person to another. Age, genetics, personal habits, stress levels, enviornmental effects all make getting enough nutrition extremely difficult. So really, your best bet, eat good, AND take a good vitamin supplement. -
You should not be envious in this department either. Medical advances in years passed far favor the male problems than they do the females. For example, how many men do you know that have been neutered when diagnosed with prostrate or testicular cancer? But let them find a lump in a womans breast, and bang, off those babies come. But as to the original question about do men have "periods" I say emphatically, YES!!! Years ago I had a boss who was regular as clockwork. I used to tell the other girls in the morning, "Ok, be on your toes today because he is going to be cranky when he comes in." Sure enough, he would roar through later eating everybody out up one side and down the other. After he left they would always ask me how I knew he was going to be in a bad mood, and I would just tell them it was his time of the month. They thought I was a bit silly, but it happened month after month. Thank god he had his period the week after mine, or there would of probably been serious consequences. I don't think we could of stood each other.

Well, depends. Not all murders are created equal in my book. As someone allready mentioned, the woman who finally kills her hubby that has been abusing her for years doesn't particularly deserve to die. And nobody should be killed unless the case is absolutly proven beyond the shadow of a doubt. On the other hand, you have those insane individuals who go into schools, shopping malls, or what have you, and just randomly start shooting people. Those people have no right to continue to exist on this earth. They are a waste of our natural recourses, they aren't worth the air they breath. Only way to make sure they do not continue is to kill them. Even if they are mentally defective, why take a chance that those defective genes have even the most remote possible chance of being passed on. I sure don't have a problem with that. On the news a few days ago there was a woman who set fire to her own baby. She can go too.

What Does Your Username Mean? Your Trap17 name
sheepdog replied to lekrissy's topic in General Discussion
Well, in my case, it just had to be some kind of dog. Sheepdogs are probably my favorite of the large breed dogs, and since Schnauzer is too hard to type, Sheepdog fit just fine. Of course, with my rather unruly hair, I would favor a shaggy sheepdog a lot more than a normally neatly groomed Schnauzer. -
WHAT!!??? You mean to tell me CD players are outdated? Mine still works good, and I have that cassette attatchment that I can plug into the cassette player in the car and listen to all my favorite songs. OK, so it doesn't work too good on bumpy roads, but hey, at least I'm not still using 8 tracks, lolololol

Ok, I know the animal rights people are way over the top, crazy as bed bugs, but this is even a bit much for them. See the full story at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The marble statue is dedicated to service dogs, wonderful and noble dogs that serve mankind in so many ways, protectors, eyes for the blind, ears for the deaf, finding missing children and so many other things that dogs do for us. What is wrong with these idiots? Are they so removed from reality that they don't understand that mother nature did intend for dogs to procreate and that it is a natural and normal state of affairs for an animal to be intact? Why on earth be upset over an animal being portrayed the way mother nature intended him to be? Ok, let's not even mention the fact that a marble statue is not likely to have much effect on the supposed pet overpopulation problem, then there is the scary part where they actually confessed that the statue WILL be neutered, one way or the other, admitting they will vandalize it if need be. The part that had me rolling on the floor was the line about "We cannot have intact testicles on government property. Sacramento is a testicle-free zone." So if any of you boys here are from Sacramento, I suggest you consider a move, no telling what they will be after next, ROTFLMAO

Oh boy, I hope you get some good information! I need to do exactly the same thing. Funny you bring this up, I was just trying to contact doctors in Mexico to see about getting mine fixed there. (no insurance, can't afford it here) I have heard it was pretty painfull, but hadn't heard about not being able to work, that is out of the question for me.

"ah, i can not remember any more, because 23 years old now and my memory is not good."Well, you just made my day. I've been worried about my lapses in memory, but I'm more than twice as old as you! We moved alot when I was young, but my favorite house we only lived in for 2 years. It was a big stone house, with rock walls 18 inches thick. Always cool and pleasant in the summer. Warm and cozy in the winter. It had a big front porch with a swing. I had a dog named Sam, I taught him to jump off the porch and over my little red wagon. We also played hide and seek, there was a big apple tree in the yard, it was the one place Sam never found me. (dogs don't look up) Sat on 440 acres, so I had plenty of room to wander around. There was a hand layed fireplace made with stones of all sorts, they had collected them specially for the fireplace, so there were lots of interesting shaped rocks that made it special. It had an upstairs, so having a banister to slide down made it even more "kid friendly." Icing on the cake, there was a neighbor girl about 2 miles away, every day during the summer my mom would drive me down there. We went swimming or fishing or horseback riding every day. Pure heaven for little girls! Best 2 years of my life!

OMG....You poor dear! If I became lactose intolerant, (again) you just as well shoot me. I had some milk allergies as a young child and had to drink soy milk, that has got to be the most foul, vile disgusting stuff on the face of the planet. I guess I am soy intolerant. To this day anything with soy in it gags me. If I eat cheap hotdogs that are soy based I belch for hours aftward. I was glad to hear they found a way to make ink out of soybeans, that's a great way to use them, hopefully they would work for bio diesel too, so they can save the corn to make good food, like tortillias! The farm would have to have a USDA inspected slaughter house to kill and process the meat for the restuarant. No other way it can be done, and that is fedral law, not just state. I'll bet you don't see much in the way of dairy products at the local farmers markets either. I know they passed a law prohibiting the sale of eggs here, but it's one of those on the books, but never inforced things. I still see them at swap meets all the time. Thanks for the explaination on the bidet thing. As you may guess, I don't get out much. Have been to Mexico, that's all, we go down there once a year, or were anyway, till they came up with this passport garbage.

Personally, I am a BIG fan of solar power. I wish it was promoted more. I think the big problem with promoting it is that once the system is installed, no giant corperation is going to make a killing off of it. Nobody can own the sun. But currently the panels are expensive to buy and nobody is pushing for more companies to make them. Unlike so many other things that start out so terribly expensive when they first come out, computers and all the paraphanelia that goes with them are a prime example, and then drop off in price as the various companies all fight for the consumer's $. For some reason this has never happened to much of an extent with solar equipment. I would suspect that there are probably some stupid laws that forbid the use of paper to wrap meat, at least without an outer layer of plastic. There are also a lot of laws concerning the sales of milk and eggs directly off the farm that make it pretty much impossible for the farmer and consumer to sell/purchase products that are probalby healthier and fresher. We are drowing in a sea of regulations that make life extremely difficult to do anything. The consumer going direct to the farmer would cut out all those middleman that make their living off the backs of everybody above and below them, and they will not stand for that. The causes for these crazy regulations may of at one time had some reasons for being created, but when was the last time you heard of anybody getting disease from raw milk? Sue, it can happen, but it isn't likely, you stand a better chance of being lightening struck. Ok, for the benefit of this poor dumb country girl who seldom gets off the farm, what's a bidet?

I have to agree with you completely. I always hate it when a site of any kind makes a sudden change and I have to hunt all over the page to do the things I could before practicly with my eyes closed. But you also have to grow as you evolve. As you get new members with a more diversified life style, new forums are important to add. Take me for example. I don't really know my butt from a hole in the ground about computers. It seems about the only contributing I can do is in Lawn and Garden or Pets and Animals. I also had a tough time in deciding what catagory to post an early post today about living green. I think if changes are made they should be made slowly, and nothing major done to the site until people have a chance to adjust. Adding one forum as a sub forum under an established one would not be that difficult to get used to. For example, a Down on the Farm sub forum could be added under the lawn and garden one.

Saw a spot on some news type Tv program the other day about a family that is trying to live a low or no impact on the earth and it's resources. It was a man and his wife, and a little daughter about 2 years old. They have the electricity shut off, though I did notice they still have running water. (it showed them stomping clothes in the bath tub) They won't even ride the elevator in their buildings. They only eat things they can buy in reusable containers, or buy anything that is brought in from more than 250 or so miles from where they live, so they don't even drink coffee. While they were not actually vegatarian, since meat comes in styrofom containers with plastic wrap, meat was mostly out too. Obviously with no electricity, they don't have a computer. It also stated they did not get any magazines or newspapers. But the big question here.....it also stated they did not use TOILET PAPER!!! Now just how in the heck do you get by without toilet paper?????? I mean, it's not like they are living in the wilderness, and can just go grap a handful of leaves. They are in an apartment for crying out loud. Could someone please explain to me how that one works?

Do You Know How To Cook? Who cooks their own food?
sheepdog replied to FLaKes's topic in Health & Fitness
LOL, not only do I cook it, I have been known to catch it, kill it, and skin it before cooking it!I can't picture not cooking. Those frozen things are so much more expensive, and tiny portions that I would starve on. And those ready to heat and eat soups, what a joke, instead of opening a can and heating it in a pan, they put it in plastic so you can microwave it and then charge you 3 times as much as for the can that makes twice as much to start with. -
Ah....the labradoodle, the dog that more or less started the current (and stupid in my book) "designer dog" fad. Put simply. Poodles do not shed. Labs shed. When you mix the 2, maybe they won't and maybe they will. There is no way to know. So it is not a flaw in genetics, it's simply the odds. Personally, I don't see the attraction in the current fad. When you consider there are allready over 400 different types of purebred dogs, it is not difficult to find one that is a proper match for your family. Granted, allergies to tend to limit your choises however. There are only 2 breeds that do not shed, one is the poodle and the other is the schnauzer. And don't let anybody tell you any different. I have had people claim that Shih Tzu's don't shed, but that is definatly a myth. Soft Coated Wheatens are also better tolerated by people with allergies, but they still shed. When you get a purebred as opposed to a mix, many years of selective breeding goes into asuring you that you will get exactly the dog you want. Any mix is just a crap shoot. Length of haircoat in no indicator of shedding either. Many short haired dogs actually make more of a mess than long haired dogs. Sheepdogs for example, tons of hair, but if you have one in the house, you will not see much hair scattered about if you occasionally brush the dog. The hair tends to cling together and not fall all over the place, if you brush, you get 90% of the hair in the brush, not all over your house. Now, about the barking. Sorry, but that is your fault. Dogs do not come pre-programed. YOU have to train them. And before you give up on the dog, there are some dog shampoos that reduce allergins on the dog. Might try that first.

Ug, I hate rats. They are SO destructive! Last year they chewed holes in my soaker hose in my flower bed. Now what possible benifit could they get from eating that? Of course the flowers were allready growing good and it was a real pain to fix the hose. They have done an incredible amount of damage here. Right now the mice are really a plague here. I'm looking for an inexpensive way to poision them, anybody have any ideas? Boughten poison bait runs $2.50 to $5 a pound depending on the type, and I would sure like to find something a bit more reasonable. I did talk to a professional exterminater, and he said to mix trail mix with either concrete or plaster of paris, or something like that, but now I can't remember what for sure he told me. UPDATE! Finally got some poison bought! I get it by the tub full, and tonight I really layed out the feed for the nasty little varmits. I am hoping for massive deaths!

Yes, getting a purebred makes certain things a given. Like the size, color, coat type, etc. Purebred is the way to go for many people, who have specific wants in their choices in a pet. For example, someone with allergies might only be able to get a poodle or schnauzer, the 2 breeds that don't shed. Or a duck hunter may require only a retriever, sending in a bulldog to fetch a duck from the lake would not be wise, they don't swim and would sink like a rock. As to life expectancy, it corralates with the size of the dog. The very large dogs, and the very tiny dogs have the shortest life expectancies. An Irish Wolfhound or a mastiff on average lives 7-9 year, the tiny yorkies and chihuahua's are also very short lived. The dogs in the mid range, say, 30 to 50lbs live the longest, in this day and age with good vet care and proper diet dogs often live passed 16 years.

Wow, you sound like me, and our front door, Remember the scene from Turner and Hooch when the dog when through the bathroom door? Well, I actually had that happen in real life, though it was our front screen door. (even the same kind of dog)I got bit just the other day from some sort of fly, a little triangle shaped thing, I didn't even feel it at the time, but I smashed it on my hand, it was one of the worst fly bites I'd ever had, it itched for 3 days and there wasnt' a stinking thing that would help. Made a huge knot on my hand. Lucky for me, since I live in the Ozarks, ticks don't like me. I rarely ever get a tick bite, and if they do bite me they die. There are some cortizone ointments that help somewhat. Also, if you have been scratching (yes, you know you have been) sometimes Destin diaper rash ointment relieves some skin irritations.

Thanks. I know the new pup will have to be her own dog, and not just a replacement. Of course, the temperment of the old dog is what I prefer, and of course, one of the main reasons for getting a purebred dog is to know that you will have that basic temperment. Each dog may have it's own little quirks, but in general dogs of a purebreed are predictable in their natures.

I should of been more clear I guess, I didn't loose her like she wandered off, she passed away. She was almost 14. She was a great dog, and part of the reason I haven't been in any hurry to get another house dog. I got her as an adult dog, she was about 6-7 when I got her, and she was almost never more than 5 feet away from me from then on. She went everywhere with me. She made the best traveling companion. I could pull over in any rest area and take a nap, she would sit up in the seat next to me and watch, and growl if anyone came near the car. No chance of anybody sneaking up on me! I sure do miss her.
-
Ok, can you explain to me how you got your picture so nice? I tried to post one of my pup and all I got was a fuzzy reg square I do like these forums, but I sure have a lot to figure out on using them.

A year ago last spring I lost my old Ebony, she was a Standard Schnauzer. I have been a long time considering a replacement for her. I have pretty much decided that this will be my next girl. Though I'm still torn and wanting another Standard. Hard decision to make. I am going to try to post her picture. Hopefully I can figure out how.

Ok thanks. I definatly have been visiting my own site a lot, as things don't always look right in FP, and I have to check my links, etc. I believe I have the hosting plan one. I remember seeing there was an upgrade when I first signed up, not sure where I saw it now. I was concerned that I might not be able to keep up enough posts to keep it paid up. As you may guess, I don't know enough about computers to join in any helpful discussion there! About all I do know is dogs and general farming stuff. I have been doing some reading on the forums and studying on this bandwidth thing. I found a few statements in other posts that have me wondering why I ran out of bandwith so quickly..... What am I missing here? From OpaQue The bandwidth supported already should be more than enough for your hosting needs. I dont think someone here has ever exceeded their bandwidth limit. And if they have, then chances are they were doing something they werent supposed to. My site has loads of images on it and I never get anywhere near my bandwidth limit Sorry, I didn't get the names of the second 2 posters I quoted from. I know I'm not getting anywhere near that much traffic, even with all the editing I've been doing. I did also apply to upgrade my hosting package. When I finished upgrading (hasn't been approved yet,) I see that I have -13707.60 Yes, I looked twice, there is a minus sign in front of my credits. Now I may be a motor mouth but I don't think I can ever make up that many credits! And and all advice appreciated. Notice from BuffaloHELP: Learn to use proper QUOTE tag and do not double post. That's why we have EDIT feature enabled.

Ok, I am still a bit foggy here. Have I used up so much bandwidth because I am still putting my site back together? Uploading pictures, etc? It sure hasn't been from traffic to my site, and since there is nothing on the site to download, it can't be that either. It's just pictures and information about available pups, and of course, my contact info. I have a vague idea about hosting pictures on other sites, but doesn't that just save on disk space and not bandwidth? As far as compressing files, I haven't a clue as to how that works. I think that is too far over my head.
