  1. OH YEA!!!! WAY WORSE! You can walk away from where you are cutting up the onion and get away from it, or just blink your eyes a few times and it's gone, but this burned 100 times worse and there was no way to stop it. Now the seeds are dry and I don't even want to touch them to rake them off into an envalope. I couldn't believe that just water from my hands touching my face did that. I had washed good with antibacterial dish soap, so I didn't think there was anything left, since I didn't feel anything on my hands. Oddly enough late that evening I had to bath a dog, and when I got my hands in the soapy water they started burning finally. And that was quite a few hours after the original incident. I ain't never handling peppers again without gloves on, no matter how ackward they are!
  2. This past monday certainly started off good for me, I had been trying for 3 days to get some pups sent off to their new owners and the flight cancelations were driving me crazy, I made 2 trips in our gas hog pick up all the way to the airport for nothing. (not to mention having to get up at 2 am to drive up there, only to be told the flight was cancelled.) Finally got them off monday morning and headed home. We had also been putting off having our Christmas with the grandkids due to weather and everthing else that was going on, so was looking forward to a bit of a relaxing afternoon with the kids. We were giving them a puppy for Christmas, and I just love watching the interactions with kids and puppies. Once we were home I started piddling around the house since we had some time to kill before we headed over there. I had some jalapeno peppers left over in the frig from the garden that I had to sort threw to pick out the best of the ripe ones so I could save the seeds for next year. I knew I should of put rubber gloves on, but I wasn't planing on doing that many and my hands didn't start to burn so I just cut them open and scooped out the seeds onto a saucer to dry. I washed my hands real good when I was done, and I didn't feel anything at all. So I figured I was fine. Getting up at 2 am never sets well with me, so decided to take a short nap before we left to visit the kids. When I got up I headed for the bathroom and started throwing cold water on my face, and then it hit me! It was like someone threw acid on my face, it just set me on fire! It was AWFUL. My eyes were burning and I couldn't even open them. I have never had anything burn that bad. Hubby mixed some baking soda in water and had to put my hands in the bowl as I couldn't see to find it, I kept splashing it in my face, but I had no idea what baking soda would do to my eyes, so I kept them shut. It did sort of put out the fire in my skin, but not by much. I could only open my eyes in water cupped up in my hands. Let me tell you, that is a miserable way to spend an hour or so. I couldn't believe that there was enough of the jalapeno left on the skin of my hands that I couldn't even feel, but yet it set my face on fire like it did. Especially after washing them and then sleeping a few hours. So, if you ever need to process jalapeno's, WEAR RUBBER GLOVES!!!! Even if they are ackward and difficult to work with.
  3. No, it's not just you, I've noticed this many many times. So many times that it's all actually pretty riduculous, and I don't believe any of it. Not only just the types of food you eat, but how you cook them. I even saw a study that claims you get cancer from eating a burger cooked in a cast iron frying pan. Of course there are studies that say frying in cast iron is good for you because your food absorbs some of the iron, and iron is a needed nutrient in your body. But lord help you if you BBQ that burger on an open fire because that will put carcinogenic smoke particules in your burger. And there is my favorite bad guy, Chocolate. You can read conflicting studies all day long that profess it is good/bad for you. To the doomsayers of chocolate, all I can say is shut up and pass me that Hersey bar! I think a lot of these studies come from not the desire to improve the lot of human kind, but out of greed. Many of these studies are done with government grants, people see it as a way to get free money so they can stay employeed. Better I suppose than drawing a welfare check where you do nothing to recieve compenstation, but still a drain on the people that have to pay those taxes to support the lazy goof offs. I think the concensus of the majority here is a good common sense, all things in moderation.
  4. Nearly all farm kids start driving young. Usually as soon as they can reach the clutch and see over the dash at the same time. It's all on farm driving, out in the pastures where there's nothing to run over, or at least nothing that is going to run over you, like another car. It's actually a good way to get behind the wheel experience, and the more you drive the better your skills become, so consider yourself lucky to have the extra experience that your friends may not get until they get to drivers ed classes. By then you'll be a old pro. lol. And it's also great that you enjoy working on cars. That is always a skill in demand and can be helpfull through out your entire life. Even if you don't become a full time mechanic, it's always great to be able to work on your own cars and trucks, it will save you a ton of money over the years, and even if you have major work that needs done on a car that you don't want to do, you'll at least have the knowledge of what needs to be done so some mechanic can't rip you off so easliy.
  5. Actually, I'm not even sure you have a problem. Your experiences sound pretty much like any other normal female who is growing up. We all come with bagage, we all have our own experiences that influence our future decisions. But the fact that you realize you have this dependancy is a big step in the right direction. It would probably help if you just step back from the relationship department for a little while and think things threw. Give it some time so you can develope your own sense of self worth and come to the realization that you are an independant person and can function on your own as an adult. When you do try another relationship, for gosh sakes, don't go to the oppostite end of the spectrum and get a guy that is not good to you. Don't try to punish yourself by getting into a relationship that is not right for you. If you like to be treated well by your man, there is nothing wroung with that! Why tie yourself up with an assh-le just to prove a point?
  6. Artificial sweeteners worry me. They seem to come out with new ones every few years, when they first come out all you hear are the virtues of the new product, how wonderful it is and how safe it is, and how well it works etc, etc, and amazingly enough, these products usually pop up about the time some study shows the previously accepted product has been discoverd that long term use causes some catastrophic illness like cancer. So....for me, I will stick with good old sugar. The real thing. Why take any chances? Besides, those artificial sweeteners in soda taste wierd. They always leave a funky aftertaste in my mouth.
  7. Being outside, in the fresh air and sunshine is ALWAYS better and more healthy than being inside. The body requires sunshine to make vitamin D, a very important vitamin for general health and well being, and while it can be suplemented, there's nothing like the real thing if you have it available. As far as the workouts, you are both working on 2 completely different things. But you could always carry some weights in your hands while you jog, to work on your strength training too, and still be outside getting the benefits of the sun and air.
  8. What an absolutly cool idea! I have GOT to try that one, thanks for sharing, your right though, it is probably a dangerous thing to be able to have chocolate cake that easy!
  9. After years of ripping up slices of bread with cold butter, I made the most amazing discovery, butter does NOT spoil if you leave it out of the refrigerator! It is after all, fat, and fat is very slow to go bad. I was always told it would go bad and must be refrigerated. Now, admittedly, we go threw a stick of butter in just a few short days, but in that length of time we have yet to have a stick go bad. We use a butter dish and keep it covered to keep the dust out of it, but other than that it just sits on the table until we use it. In the heat of the summer it almost gets too soft setting out, and if the house is not real warm in the winter it may be a bit stiff, but all in all, it works quite well to leave it out. Now if you didn't go threw a lot of butter and it set out for a long time, that might be a different story, but several days certainly won't hurt it. Now, you don't have to eat that nasty old margarine after all!
  10. NO WAY should gun ownership be denied!!!!To quote from my favorite bumper stick, "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."I was just on the phone a few minutes ago talking to an elderly lady friend of mine. She lives out in the boondocks, is all alone. A few weeks ago her dog alerted her to a possible burgler tring to get inot her home via a back window. The dogs bark temporarily slowed the attempted break in, but when my friend went outside and popped off a round from her pistol, you can bet that thief decided right then and there that there were probably better houses t break into. They have not been back. Please keep in mind, this is an elderly woman. Very tiny, under 5"2" and probably doesn't weigh 100lbs soaking wet with rocks in her pockets. She is in no way capable of protecting herself without some sort of "equalizer." To deny her the right to protect her person and property is in itself a criminal act.
  11. I would love to visit NZ sometime, it looks like such a beautiful country. I know a lot of the Hercules/Xena tv shows were supposed to be filmed there, and those shows have some of the most breath taking views I have ever seen. I would love to see them in person. The fact that there may be more sheep and cows than humans is certainly not a distraction to the country. Actually, that may be a plus too. The less people the less agrivation!
  12. RUN!Run far and run fast!DELETE DELETE DELETE!!!This is a con. Look how they are trying to get you to feel sorry for them, all that junk about a refuge camp????? (by the way, how many refugee camps have computer access???) And they are trying to butter you up with lots of compliments and kind words. Sooner or later they are going to ask you for money or something. Don't waste any further time or effort on someone who is actual a crook.
  13. One of the best inovations I have seen in a long time to fight poverty is a program that furnishes "micro loans" for individuals to start some sort of business in their communitys. The loans are small, maybe enough to purchase a sewing machine for a woman in a village to make clothing or do repairs for the people in her community. Or for cookware to start a small snack stand. These loans have had a tremendous success rate, and have been nearly 100% repaid by the borrowers. There is also a new school I just saw featured on TV a few days ago, where woman are trained to do repairs or to build solar panels. These panels furnish electicity to impoverished communities all over India and Africa. The electric helps give the community a much better lot in life, and opens the doors to many other community improvements and oppertunities. The thing I like best about these sort of programs, is that they are a hand UP, not a hand out, like the current welfare system in the USA, where people's lazyness in rewarded. These program emphathise a work ethic, to improve your situation by using your head and your own labor. When you GIVE something to someone, they have not earned it, and therefore do not appreciate it. You have a much deeper respect for something you have had to work hard to obtain, where as if something is given to you it was free, and therefore has no real value to you.
  14. I must heartily agree. Especially in his case. With all the women in all the states and all their children at risk, this one in particular does not need to be allowed to continue to waste the valuable resorces that this earth has. He is not worth the oxegen he is breathing. He obvioulsly has no feelings towards his children with the hateful comments about have to watch his brats or any feelings about any one other than himself. He is a danger to any woman out there. He must have some talents since he has so many girlfriends, which makes him even more dangerous. I am sorry for all the pain I know you must feel. I hope you are able to get some help, and can turn your life around and the lives of your children. Hopefully you will find the strength to not only heal, but to help you to keep it together to get this scum removed from the gene pool.
  15. My Sister in Law does Tarot card readings. She is quite good too. She does them profesionally and has some really dedicated customers that call her on a regular basis. I actually have a link on my web site to her site, if you want to check it out she is on my links page. (my link is below in all my posts) Since it has long been decided that we only use 10% of our brains, I really don't see why we would not believe in things just because we cannot understand them. If you take into account all the things humans have accomplised just using that 10%, imagine all the wonders if we could use all our gifts! Might be pretty dog gone amazing.
  16. My big problem with digital camaras is the lenght of the delay from the time you punch the button to take the picture, and the time the camara actually takes the picture. This has been a huge problem for me. Because all I really do with the camara is try to take puppy pictures. And trust me, little puppies DO NOT hold still for 2-3 seconds at a time. I get these absolutly adorable pictures, and by the time the camara actually snaps the picture the pup has ducked it's head, or ran off the table, and all I've gotten is a blurry picture of a puppy butt. Those cute, head cocked, ears up perfectly still poses never last long enough. I have been known to take 40 or more shots of a pup just to get 1-2 decent enough to email to prospective customers. And sometimes when I think I have a good picture, it may look good on the little view screen on the camera but when it's inlarged on my computer, the pup has his eyes closed, or there is something about the stance or angle that makes the pup look weird. Dachshunds are especially bad, even if they have a good level top line, it's hard to get them to stand level, and they always look hump backed in pictures. And there are lots of pups that just don't like to have their picture taken. They just sit all sulled up with their heads down and their ears plastered down and look awful. A squeaky toy will bring the head up just for a second, but not long enough for the camara to get a good shot. It can be extremely frustrating. Another thing I've noticed espcecially since they are getting the cameras smaller and smaller, many of the littler ones take special batteries. Since my first 2 camara's both used AA bateries, I have managed to get a good stock up of the AA rechargeable batteries, so I would hate to end up getting another camara that needed a different size, or a speciality battery and then I'd have to start all over getting new back up batteries. And you will need back up batteries! In my case, lots of them! Make sure you get a camara that actually has the memory either built in, or it comes with a card. I recently bought a cheap camara thinking I could use it for a back up, but when I got it home it wouldn't take a single picture without buying an additional card, so it ended up not being a bargain at all. I ended up taking that one back. It really annoyed me.
  17. Sitting or standing in one position for any great length of time is always tough to do, wether it's in an office cubicle or an assembly line, or a car. Car rides have always tired me out, it does seem weird that after doing nothing but sitting there all day you can be so tired. I did see something neat on TV the other day, that would be a big help for office workers at any rate, they have invented a tread mill where you can walk and view your computer, type and do all the things you would normally do sitting at your desk. They should get smart and put hydrolic lifts on office desks, so you could raise your desk part of the time and stand and work. But in the meantime, there are a lot of little exercises that you can do sitting down. Simply stretching your legs out straight in front of you and turning your feet in circles will help a lot and keep that circulation going in your legs.
  18. I've always heard yawning is contagious, if someone around you yawns, you will yawn. Even thinking about yawning makes you want to yawn. And after reading these posts and thinking about yawning, I did yawn. So.....it's a pretty safe bet that my head is not overheated right now, it's freaking cold in this room. If yawning is associated with being sleepy or bored, why do we mostly yawn then? Instead of in the middle of the day when we are busy and our brain should be quite warm?I'm having trouble typing this I just want to keep yawning....
  19. Christmas eve will find me playing Santa Clause, making sure all the pups get to their new homes in time to bring Christmas joy to their new families. I will be on the road all day making deliveries starting at about 2:30 am getting up and heading to the airport. Christmas day here is usually pretty quiet. My hubbys son has his own family now, and not to mention the other 2 sets of inlaws the kids have that are pretty demanding of their time, so we step back and let them do their thing so as not to stress out the holiday. Ayway, the hired man will have the day off, so I will have plenty of chores to do anyway. Dogs do not take holidays from eating and pooping.
  20. Ok, I am definatly taking you off my Christmas card list!!!! Just kidding, I do understand your thoughts, and I too feel that Christmas is way to over comercialized. But humans tend to forget, they are self serving and self centered, we really need Christmas to give them a good slap up side the head and remind them to be nice to their fellow man every now and then. As to my favorite gift. they say you should never buy a woman tools or housekeeping equipment, but the best gift I ever got was a shop-vac. From my dear S. O. Seriously. I used to clean dog pens with a sponge and bucket, messy and labor intensive, I had never even thought about a wet/dry vacume. Now I can scub 'em down and suck out the water and I'm done. It's just great. I have worn out at least 3 of them since I got the original one. It was a great gift. Just the fact that he gave great consideration to the gift in thinking that it would be something helpful and useful made it the best ever. But a word of warning to you guys out there that might now be considering this for you girl. Foret it. It probably isn't the best idea for the average woman. I'm just weird.
  21. I LOVE butter! You won't find any idky old margarine in this house as long as I can affored the real thing. There is nothing to compare to it's flavor, and let's face facts, when was the last time you hear butter trying to say it tastes as good as margarine????? Not likely! Buttered popcorn, garlic toast, pancakes, warm baked fresh bread and rolls from the oven, none of these would be worth eating without a good slathering of butter! And for those of you who are under the impression that it is bad for you, well, the fats in butter a lot more healthy than the fake, unnatural fats you find in margarine. But that's ok, don't eat butter......saves more for me!!!!
  22. Well, unfortunatly, there just aren't a lot of jobs out there that are fun/cool/enjoyable, AND pay the bills. Standing or sitting in one spot all day plugging in your part as something goes by you on an esembly line, or sitting in a little cubical all day fighting with computers and telephones probably isn't very many peoples idea of having a good time. However, that is the vast majority of the types of "work" available. A fun job for somebody might be traveling all over the world sampling local cusine, but how many food shows could we all stand to watch on PBS? News reporters get to travel to so many cool places and get to be right in the middle of the excitement, but there are just so many of those type of slots out there. Cowboys riding and roping on the open range jobs are in pretty short supply too! :-) I certainly enjoy my own job, but in tough ecomomic times it is not a very reliable sourse of income. When folks are worrying about keeping a roof over their heads, they don't consider buying a puppy to feed. But I really do enjoy it, and would not want to do anything else.
  23. I really like Unknown's rational of his (?) reasoning behind thinking men get more depression. I do think women get depressed more, but he sure makes a good argument for the guys. I have spells of depression, but I have learned to recognise them for what they are. My big two are worry about paying the bills, and the other thing that sends me over the edge is biological, it is simply the lack of sunshine. I HATE cloudy, rainy days.
  24. Actually, water is extremely important when you have diarrhea. Diarrhea is cause from a bacteria/virus that has invaded your digestive system. Your system is trying to flush it out, and if you don't drink liquid, your body will rob water from your cells to flush the system. You can get severely dehydrated from diarrhea. I know a week or so ago I had a bad round of it, and it left me really weak and unable to do much of anything. What is ORS?
  25. No, I don't trust Doctors. And I am surprised that they are now being so blatant about the fact that basicly, they are taking bribes from the drug companyies. Greed is pretty much ingrained into the fabric of humans genetic makeup, personally I think it is the root of all evil, though most consider money to be the root of all evil, greed beats it because there is greed for things other than money......power, position, ego, all play a part. I have always figured they took bribes from the drug companies. When my better half was diagnosed with all of his health problems, they proscribed him many extremely expensive drugs. Through our own reasearch, we found many MUCH cheaper alternatives. Even the same drugs in different strengths could be cheaper, in one case taking 2 of the 20 mil pills per day was $50 a month cheaper than taking one 40 mil pill a day. But the doctors don't tell you that. You have to dig it up for yourself. Many of the older drugs are just as effective as the new ones, and are far less expensive. Yes, it is a sad state of affairs when a doctor can get a new car or any other perks at the risk of another humans health. They give no thought to the poor person who is barely getting by while they drive around in their fine cars. Seems doctors are getting as bad as politicians.
