  1. While it makes a great story line for a science fiction movie, like Terminator, I really don't see it happening, as long as we remember where the plug in is!
  2. Great thread web designer! We need a bit of moral boosting here at this time! Smart of you to think this one up! Great timing, your a pretty sharp cookie! (if you can call me a flower I can call you a cookie, right? ) I have to agree with anwii, I would hate to start a list, and then forget to put someone on it. Everyone here has always been very helpful if I had a problem, and also just plain old friendly and non judgmental. I have to tell you, after years of being on internet boards, and getting seriously thrashed because I raise dogs, I did not expect to be treated like a human being when I first started posting here. I keep expecting to get attacked by an animal rights nut job, but I've been here 2 years now and still no problems. I find that truely amazing.
  3. I really appreciate all the input. This is quite a delema. I can't afford to loose my arm strength. Even if it is July, I know winter wood hauling time is just a few months away! And for the rest of the time, I can't afford to be a weakling anyway, I still have to unload feed occasionally, and then lift dogs up on the grooming table, and a few dozen other chores around here that require brute force. I don't think more exercise is going to help my wrists. Actually, the problem is that they get too much now. Here's a triva fact for you, know how many squeezes it takes to get a gallon of milk when milking by hand? 600! That's about what I'm getting right now from the 2 I am milking, and one is a very hard milker and it takes considerable force behind the squeeze on her. Then there is the high speed vibration from the electric clippers, and the heat generated by them doens't help either. After a day of clipping my hand looks like I stuck it in a microwave! Washing gravel is also a strain, the constant grip preasure on the spray nozzel and the constant motion of moving the water stream. (but at least it's cold water and doesn't cook my hand) Been thinking about this quite a bit. The bar bell thing gave me a glimmer of an idea. Do you all know what a post driver is? It's a heavy metal pipe, open on one end so it can slide down over a metal T post, and metal in the other closed end to hit the post with, and a handle on either side to lift and bang it down on the post. Since it is fairly big around, I can grip it without a lot of strain. If I watch what I am doing, I can keep my wrists absolutely straight and not move them at all. I started out by keeping my elbows pointed down, and just lifting the driver up and down, keeping my elbows pointed down all the time. I'm going to start slow, 10 lifts and then since the driver is heavier on one end than the other, I flip it around and do 10 more with the heavy end on the other side. Then I do 10 more lifting it from the shoulder, straight up and over my head, flip it and do 10 more. I can really feel it by the time I'm done, even my ribs start to hurt! Beauty part is, we keep the driver in the barn, and I can work in the routine while I am waiting for the goat to finish eating her grain after I get done milking, so it really doesn't take any time out of my busy routine. I'm going to keep it at these numbers of lifts for awhile, to see if I have any flair ups of my wrists. If not I can slowly increase them, and then on days when I have to clip or wash gravel, I can skip the lifting. We will see how it goes. Thanks everybody for the sugestions. I had really been racking my brain on how to do this. I have never been one to do much exercise, I have too much physical stuff to do all day long, so it always seemed rather pointless to do more!
  4. I'm thinking meat eaters live a lot longer because vegans have this bad habit of getting in meat eaters faces and pestering them about how cruel they are for eating the poor little animals, so the meat eaters bite their head off!
  5. I couldn't agree with you more. I'm certainly not one to hide my true feelings, even if I do on occasion piss people off. We should be able to speak our minds. That's kind of the whole point in freedom of speach. It's just a shame that people are so thin skinned and can't take anybody disagreeing with them. Just look at how many wars that has started! Hopefully things will calm down pretty soon. I will certainly be glad when all the bugs are worked out of the board and mycents start working again, hopefully everyone will calm down then.
  6. I have pieces of paper scattered all over the place! They just dissapear when I need them. I leave the computer on nearly all the time anyway, so at least I can find my computer. And your right, I do have a web site. But it took me years to do, and you would not believe the number of swear words I uttered, (or sometimes screamed) in the process of making it.
  7. Wow! What the heck happened? I turn my back for a day or 2 and all hell breaks loose! At first I thought somebody was mean to Web Designer, from her topic title, which I found really hard to believe, she is much too nice and friendly for that to have happened. I hate to see Buffalo and Anwiii having a pissing contest. But that is just going to happen any time you have 2 people who are opinionated and not afraid to state their opinions. That little fact has gotten me into trouble any number of times too. So I can sympathise. I sure hope they get things worked out. I also hope they hurry up and fix my cents.
  8. Welcome James!I do believe you will be happy here, we have a large section dedicated just to gamers, so you will have a lot of like minded folks here to visit with. Hopefully, you like dogs too, since that is my main topic for discusion! And getting your web site hosted for free just for chatting with friends is pretty great too!
  9. HSUS, Humane Society of the United States, has now come out with their own line of dog food. It is currently being sold in Pet co stores. It contains NO animal protien. Of course they are bragging it up as cruelity free, natural, organic, and just about everything else they can say to make you feel so wonderful, saving the planet, and all that jazz. It is manufactored in a foriegn country, Hungary I think, don't remember for sure. You can bet that in other countries there are probably no regulations as to what goes into pet food, or any standards for quality control like there are in the USA. I'm sure many of you remember the recent scare and all the contaminated pet food that killed numerous pets that came from China. But even aside from all that, PLANT PROTIEN is NOT sufficient for dogs. They are carniverous, and need meat. Period. Plants cannot provide what dogs need to be healthy. No way shape fashion or form. Please do not fall into the polital correct trap and risk the life of your pet in the name of fashion and slick advertising campaigns. Do not feed this garbage to your pets.
  10. LOL, maybe the momma lion taught her baby to wash his food before he eats it? I remember some years back reading an article of someone opinion that dogs are truly the greatest con artists on earth, they really don?t care about us but only tolerate us because we feed and take care of them. It was an interesting article, and I could see the points the author was trying to make, and his rational for making the assumptions, but I?m reasonably certain it was not written by someone that had spend most of their life in the company of animals.I don?t doubt for a minute that animals do bond to humans. Some of course, much more than others. I remember the first registered dairy goat I ever bought. Her name was Farm Lilly, but I didn?t look real close at her papers when I got her so I always called her Fawn Lilly, she did look a lot like a fawn anyway. I had had her about 3 weeks, so not a real long time to bond, but one night it was so awfully hot in my house, I grabbed a pillow and blanket and went out in the yard to sleep. She spotted me and came to lay down with me, and watched over me all night. I imagine that since I was the one milking her she assumed that I was her kid, therefore it was her duty to protect me. I?m sure all of us know of stories of dogs loyalties to their owners, and acts of unselfish love the dogs have shown. Dogs have protected us from human attackers, house fires, wild or domestic animals, and countless other situations where we would have been in some sort of danger. Probably the most famous of all, Gray Fryers Bobby, the faithful Skye Terrier that laid on his masters grave for 14 years until he finally passed away himself. That can only be attributed to love/loyalty, especially in this case, since the owner was in no way able to provide the dog with anything. Of course, there are exceptions. I thoroughly believe that my Road Runner only liked me because I fed him, I don?t think he would of risked his little feathered hide to protect me from Wiley Coyote.
  11. Is there any way to exercise and build up muscle in the upper arm without putting ANY strain on the wrists? Milking and grooming dogs wrecks hell and havok on my wrists, at times I have to wear a wrist brace due to severe pain in my right wrist, so I don't want to strain them at all, but since I've been trying to take it easy on the wrists, my upper arm muscles are fading fast. I used to unload a lot of the feed, but quite that chore to save wear and tear on the wrist. Any sugestions would be helpful.
  12. So, maybe it's a good thing that there is a large variety of "drugs" for different peoples likes and dislikes.(I'm not sure good is the right term here actually, but you get my meaning) Personally, I have no problem what so ever with alcohol. The part about fogging up the brain is the good part, far as I can tell. You know, when you've had one of those days, and your annoyed and ticked off and just in a bad mood, the fogging up of the brain can be rather helpful. If properly used, and not overused, alcohol can be a very good way to blow off steam, relax or othewise stepp away from temporary problems in life. At least it has been around since the beginning of time, and if not overused, is not particularly harmful. Unlike chemical drugs for depression. As far as pot goes, hate to say it, but the majority of people that I know that smoke pot seem to suffer brain damage from it. It effects whatever part of the brain that gives people a sense of purpose and direction, or the ability to get up off their butts and do something constructive. Like work. I'm not saying this is true in everone's case, just the majority of those I know.
  13. And the flip side......Dealing with people is not all bad, thank goodness! Yesterday while walking around at the swap meet, a man stopped me and said he had bought a Wire Haired Fox Terrier from me about 3 years ago and he had to tell me all about how much they all loved the dog, and how wonderful he is, etc, etc, so I guess it all comes out even in the end. Sure did make my day though.
  14. iPhone or iPod touch?????I don't see that helping. First off, I can barely work this computer, and to be honest, I don't have a clue about phones or pods. Pods are what you pick seeds out of right? Making lists doesn't really help much. The very nature of my business pretty much rules out any sort of plans or schedules or routines. If my lists says wash dirty dog food dishes, and a dog gets out and is running all over the place I can't very well go ahead and wash dishes just because that is what my list says I should be doing, and let the dog get hurt running around now can I? I do keep a little notepad open on my desktop as a "to do" list, but that is mainly so I don't forget important things, like finally remembering to take a letter down to the mailbox. I've had a set of papers I need to mail to the pups new owner that have been sitting on my printer for a week now, guess I should put that on the list........
  15. Hummm...interesting, I had no idea anybody had ever nuked an oil well, on land or sea. Sure didn't know the Russians had tried it. Granted, I don't get away from the kennel that much. So maybe somebody does know something about it, but it sure seems like one heck of an extreme measure to me. I wonder if they have thought threw all the reprocussions it could cause? I know our governement rarely does look past the end of their noses on any other stupid ideas they come up with. Don't think I really want to trust them on this one.
  16. I really like solar myself, especially since no one can claim ownership of the sun and charge us for it's shining. The problem as I'm sure you know, is that it is dark at least half of the time, and until we have a good way to store the energy that it makes during the daylight hours, it is not going to be a reliable sourse, sad to say.

    Hiya :)

Welcome havenrealm! If you are looking for good, reliable web hosting, you have come to the right place. Maybe not at exactly at the right time, since we are going threw a major overhaul right now, but since I've been here for 2 years now, I can safely say this is a great site and place to earn free web hosting with just the investment of some time on your part. Just be patient, and I'm sure you will find out this really is a great place to hang out.
  18. Welcome NNNOOOOOO!!!I like your name as is, it kind of reminds me of a dog that thinks his name is No No Bad Dog! If you hang out here awhile, you will soon discover we have a very good group of folks here that are very helpful with any problems you have. Since I'm not much of a computer nerd, afraid I can't really explain to you what the portal is, but I'll be somebody else can.
  19. I think the real big problem with missing out on life's gifts are the fact that to use an old line, we don't take time to stop and smell the roses. Life is so hectic. One has to concentrate on the things that have to be done, and need to be done, and in doing so, we really miss a lot. While you are concentrating on getting the job done you have to tune out all the distractions that come along. Sad, but true. Part of it is mental conditioning. My flower bed along the driveway is a good example. I put a lot of work into it every year. But I really enjoy seeing the beautiful flowers when they begin to bloom. However, I have to watch myself, because sometimes instead of seeing the beauty of the flowers, I see that I have not had the time to give it a good weeding, so I see the weeds instead of the beauty. I have to remind myself that it is really pretty anyway, despite a few weeds. And then when I finally get time to go yank them out, I can feel even better about myself, that I have accomplised something worth while, so it is always enjoyable, as long as you are in the right frame of mind to enjoy it.
  20. Actually, I was trying to figure out how to fix my signature, seem to have lost it somehow. And I didn't like the empty head thing where the picture was supposed to be when I made the top poster list.

  21. I think every living organisim on the face of the earth fears death. Maybe not in the same way higher brain functioning mamamals do, but even amebas and bacteria and viruses do whatever it takes to avoid death. It is part of survival of every species. So yes, I would agree with you that it holds a great power over us. It's what we do to deal with the fear that matters. It would be pointless to go threw your entire life never trying to accomplish anything just because you thought that it didn't matter what you do cause your going to die sometime anyway. I think this is wear faith comes in. Or maybe it's personal perserverance that kicks in here. Having faith that you must do what is right and make something of your life. It is very difficult when someone close to us dies. Even knowing that death is inevitable doesn't help. When someone takes up a big part of our lives and then leaves us, it is a thing of great pain for us to deal with. I suppose it is part of the big picture of life that we have to learn to deal with. I have a friend who is a big believer in reincarnation. And while I am not totally convinced, it does make a lot of sense that we have to keep coming back time and time again until we figure things out and finally get them right.
  22. Great U tube clip. Thanks for sharing that. It was quite humerous. I really thought when he picked up the roll of paper towels it was all over, but no.....too funny!Certainly more funny than the news for sure. I am getting to the point where I hate to hear the TV news. Never anything good. It either depresses me or makes me mad. Usually mad. Although I did get a laugh about the acusations that Al Gore is a sex crazed poodle! I'm waiting to see how they blame Bush for that.
  23. Ok, that is just a bit strange. What if somebody picks up the book that doesn't know anything about the web site? Or what would be even worse, what if stalkers and other such perverts all joined in on the site and watched to see who came to pick up the book so they could see who left it and if it was someone they might want to pick as a victum for future stalking.....I don't know, sounds kind of creep to me, think I'll stick with the local library.
  24. Oh wow, wish I had your delema! I can't even imagine haveing too much free time. I have dozens of little projects around here I want to tackle, but never have enough time or energy, or possibly the inspiration, to get to them.
  25. Well, it would seem that way at first thought, but do you have any idea how long it takes a tree to rott? The main trunk will lay on the ground for many many years. And as long as it is laying there, nothing else will grow to take it's place. No baby trees can sprout, or grass, or anything else, except maybe some funguses, which are generally of no value as they are inedible to anything else in the eco system, like the wildlife that may forage in the forest.
