  1. As long as it is a non toxic dye, I really don't see a problem. Also, it depends on the disposition of the pet. Nearly all pets love attention from humans. There is nothing they like better than to have their human's undivided attention. And you would have to admit it took a fair amount of time to get that dye job done. Most dogs would of soaked it up like the love sponges they are. The dye job is in actuality, not a lot different from the intense grooming needed for many breeds in the show ring. Depending on the breed, many show dogs spend hours and hours every week on the grooming table. Then there is the added attraction of the extra attention the dog is going to get after the dye job. If you go threw all that trouble to do your pet up that way, you are going to be taking him out to lots of different places to show him off. So he gets even more attention. Spending time with you is what he wants anyway. Some years back I had a little red poodle named Rosie. I knew nothing what so ever about dog grooming, so she was my experiment dog. She loved being groomed, and I tried a lot of different things on her. Once I even gave her a purple mohawk. She loved every minute of it. There are of course, some dogs that do not care for this sort of attention, but I would say the vast majority of dogs would really enjoy it.
  2. Actually, I thought that went "can't live with them, but it's illegal to shoot them?" Recently I was doing a bit of studying of the Spanish language. It seems to me that the Spanish have male/female variations for every single word in the language. Even rocks and trees can be male or female. It' quite confusing, I can't figure out how they determine the sexes of rocks and things.
  3. I don't think there is any sort of limitation of evolution. As long as we exist as a species we will continue to grow and change as the enviornment around us changes. Granted, the process may well take millions of year, and it is so slow that we will never notice it in our lifetimes, but look at the fossal records of early man and see how we have change in the last million years or so.
  4. LOL, well, actually, I didn't think there were any places in the world that didn't have snakes, so I wouldn't know where to move to. Snakes really don't bother me much. Now spiders are a different matter, I can't stand those! I generally like nearly all critters, with the exception of mice/rats, and recently I've come to a general dislike of armidillo's. I'm not sure, but I think the conservation department imported those stupd things into this country. They seemed to appear all at once. And since they seem to be pretty prolific, now we are seeing less and less other wildlife, Quail and turkeys are becoming very rare, I think the armidillo's are raiding their nests. Know why God created Armidillo's? So hillbillies could have possum on the 1/2 shell!
  5. Well, at first thought, I wanted to agree whole heartedly with this idea. But then I got to thinking about it. What if the person being himself happens to be a real jerk??? In some cases it might be better to be somebody else, like a nice, decent human being, when you are really an obnoxious jerk.
  6. Hi Daisy, and welcome to Xisto. (boy that's hard to type after being used to Xisto!) This is a pretty great place, I'm sure you'll make lots of friends in no time at all.
  7. Ahhh, will power! I could certainly use a lot more of it!My will power is a fickle thing. If I really really want to do something, I can usually do it. But then there are times when it just fails me completely. I don't quite understand it. If will power is not a significant part of your life, it certainly should be! Will power is part of what keeps us on the right track, keeps us safe and helps us to avoid bad habits and doing stupid things. The ability to resist temptation is very important. While generally will power is thought of in terms of not getting that second cookie (or the first one for that matter) or putting down that blasted pack of cigerettes, but will power is also important for preventing a lot of other bad habits so many of us silly humans seem to aquire. Drugs, gambling, alcohol, telling lies, cheating, swearing, you name it.
  8. Thanks guys, and expecially Opaque, it's all good now for at least another month, surly be then the bugs will be worked out of the mycents program. This really is a good board.
  9. I haven't seen any posts from Mermaid711 in quite some time. I know she was a young person, and I always was impressed with her common sense and maturity level. Anybody know her and know if she's ok?
  10. I have to agree with anwiii. Material possesion do contribute to one's happiness. And without those people who work and gain in material possesions, who would be there to help those in need when situations arose, for example the earthquakes in Hattie, or Katrina in New Orleans. If no one had possesions to share with the victims of these natural disasters, things would be very bad for them. We can't all be rainbow people.
  11. The older I get the more I dislike the media. Sometimes I almost feel sorry for the famous people that they cover, it seems no matter what they say or how they say it, the media twists it into meaning something totally different. I don't have much sypmathy for politicians, they get what they deserve. What I can't figure out is why on earth they think they can get away with lying in the first place. Anyone who runs for or is in public office knows good and well that in an election, their competition is going to dig up every itty bitty scrap of dirt they can find to use against them. So like that guy on the news last week that was speaking about his time in Vietnam, when in fact, he had never been there! I mean come on, how stupid is that? So they claimed he "misspoke" but crude, they had him on tape saying it 3 different times, how could he be so dumb to think nobody would catch him? I spotted a cool saying on a church sign the other day. "He who throws dirt looses ground." I thought that was a pretty good saying. It seems like politicians spend more time bashing each other than they do standing up for the issues they believe in. All pretty disgusting to me.
  12. The other night while we were eating dinner a van pulled in and went straight down to the kennel, I didn?t recognize it at first, but finally realized it was just my hired man. I figured he?d forgotten something so didn?t think any more about it. He was here for awhile, he?d brought his wife and daughter, and the daughter wanted to show her mom a couple of her favorite dogs. The daughter had come to work with her Dad the week before and had spent the whole time making friends with all the dogs. He eventually came to the house to tell me what he was up to. Apparently, as he was leaving after work earlier in the day, one of our resident black snakes happened to be crawling by his truck. So he had caught it and taken it home with him to show his kids and was bringing it back. This was a wild black snake, and here he was playing with it, had it hanging around his neck and was letting his kids pet it. They even fed it a dead bird that their cat had killed. Said the snake just grabbed it right up when he offered it to him. I have a pretty liberal policy with snakes here, Black snakes anyway. Poisonous ones are killed due to the threat they could pose to the dogs, but since the black snakes eat mice and rats, I generally leave them alone. There are several that have lived here now for a long time, and they know we aren?t going to bother them so they are not too wild, but I still would not hang one of them around my neck. This particular snake was one of our medium size ones, he was about 6 foot long. We also have one that has been around here for years, he is huge, probably 10-12 foot long and as big around as my leg. Now tonight when I went to gather eggs, what did I find but a black snake in my nest boxes eating my eggs. Dang, I hope it wasn?t the hired man?s new pet, but that sucker had to go. Had to go get the pistol and shoot it. It?s only the second black snake I?ve killed, the first one was a couple years ago, I found it inside one of my rabbit cages and it had killed a whole litter of little bunnies. There?s no shortage of mice around the barns and stuff here, so there?s just no excuse for them eating my eggs and rabbits. I just hope the old big snake doesn?t decide to eat things he shouldn?t, he?s big enough to swallow one of my chickens whole. And my snaky story continues??Unfortunately, the snake I murdered turned out to be ?Henry? the hired man?s new buddy. Apparently, he had a scar on his snake skin that was recognized. Rotten bit of luck that was. And bad luck for snakes continues this week, we believe we lost our big boy, my better half got him with the lawn mower. Not positive it was the great big one, he was too badly sliced and diced, but hubby was pretty sure it was him. The only thing is, he got him in an area of the yard that big boy did not normally hang out in. So I am hoping it wasn?t him. When we counted up the snake causalities for the week, we were almost afraid they had all been wiped out. The dogs had even picked off a few that wiggled left when they should of wiggled right and got into the dog runs. However, finally yesterday we spotted a survivor out behind the barn. A fair sized one, probably near 6 foot long. He should grow fast now, with all the completion thinned out and all the mice to himself. And now it looks like we are regaining our snake populations even more. My better half called me into the laundry room the other day and informed me there was a small, spotted snake (he figured it was a young black snake) in the corner behind a big pile of stuff. I thought about it for awhile, and decided by the time I moved all the stuff out of the way to get him, he would just wiggle off and get behind more stuff, and I would end up moving a ton of stuff and probably still have the snake, so being rather on the lazy side, I decided the snake could just stay where he was. Maybe he would scare off some of the mice in the house, in which case, it seemed like a good idea anyway. I haven?t ever seen him, so don?t know if he?s still a house snake or not. At least for a few days the mice did a disappearing act. Well, at least I saw a Road Runner in the drive way yesterday??.a topic for another post!
  13. Ok, I did the support ticket, but didn't see a place for emailing Opaque, so I sent it in a pm. Hope that will work. The payment is usually taken on either the 7th or 8th of the month, so hopefully this issue will be resolved by then. Sure hope so.
  14. I think this is a horrible horrible tragedy. I feel really bad for the fishermen who make (did make) their living off the ocean. Unlike the gazzillion dollar profits by the oil companies these guys are I'd guess for the most part, independant busnessmen and woman who work dang hard for a living, and now that is really getting flused down the toilet. And while you say BP should pay, and I'm sure they will, it will be the consumer that ends up paying for it. You really think gas prices will stay low when BP has to start paying fines and restitution to the business it destroyed? And paying for all the clean up? And what about future oil drilling? Won't this give the enviornmentalists a heafty baseball bat to squash any future oil drilling? Which of course will also keep the price of gas way up there, not to mention continue our dependancy on foriegn countries that quite frankly are already taking advantage of us. Any way you look at this, it is a huge disaster. I can't imagine that they are deliberatly screwing around not fixing it when they know how much trouble they are in. I suspect that the problems are that they just weren't equiped or even sure what would work to fix things in this type of disaster, the depth of the well and the complications of water preasure and all are making this a real nightmare, no matter what they try.
  15. Racial profiling is a term we seem to be hearing more and more on the news these days, especially since Arizona passed it's new laws for illegal aliens coming in from Mexico. Seems everybody is up in arms over this one. But there is something I just can't quite figure out about all the commotion on this subject. It is after all, Mexicans that are coming across the border. It's not Asians, Blacks, or Purple People Eaters. So, since it is Mexicans, how could you not being doing a racial profile if that is the "race" that is the problem? Of course it's racial profiling, but it seems rather impossible to me to avoid, but the media makes it sound like some horrible racist crime is being committed based on race alone. And then our Prez Obummer goes on TV and made one of the dumbest statements I think I have heard in a long time, he said "law abiding citizens of the United States should not have to worry about harrasment weather they are citizens or illegal aliens because of the color of their skin. Ok, PLEASE tell me how in the hell you can be a LAW ABIDING citizen, and and ILLEGAL alien at the same time? If you are breaking the law by being in this country illegally, you can't very well be a law abiding citizen now can you?
  16. I, like mother nature, do have a sense of humor. Believe it or not, (my post may not sound like it) I do like men. After all, what would us woman have to complain about and make fun of if it wasn't for men?Your right about males having the prettier characteristics, as I said, mother nature must definatly be female and have a sense of humor, for it is the bright loud colored strutting male peacock that gets nabbed by the predator while the drab quiet hen sits on the nest and does her part to ensure the survival of the species.
  17. Ok, does this qualify? I have the absolutly cutest little Chihuahau in the world, but every time I try to take his picture he pins his ears back. He actually has perfect little perked up ears, I just can't get the shot with them up. I've probably taken 75 pictures of him by now, and this is about all I get. Here's my little earless boy.
  18. Not sure why I have avoided Craigs list, maybe because I worry about scammers, and the like. And I'm not usually looking for a specific item, we know what we use around here and just try to grab what we know at some point we will need here. Like insulators for electic fence, we are always needing them, so I grab any of those I see cheap, and sooner or later we end up with some fence to build. But the swap meet is back in full swing again, and I'm happy. I don't really buy to resell, not exactly anyway, I do buy a lot of dog crates, but those are to ship pups in and buying them at the swap meet just helps keep my shipping costs down. I usually just buy stuff for us to use here. You'd be amazed at the amount of stuff you need when you have a farm, complete with dogs, goats, etc. This past week I got a whole box full of stuff, for $2. The box had 2 big paint brushes, 2 roller pans, 3 or 4 new tubes of calk and liquid nails, and a bunch of other stuff, one paint brush would of cost more than that at the hardware store. I buy books too, just to read, but then after I read them I resell them, that's just cheap entertainment. I usually find plants for the garden and flowers cheaper there too. I feel like if I can buy something from a private individual, I'm doing more good than spending more money on some giant corperation like Wal Mart.
  19. Well, from everything that has happened to you that you have described, you have every right to be depressed. The trick here is hanging in there till things turn back the other way and you start getting your life back in order. Actually, not all of what has happened to you is bad. If your husband was a mean drunk and he is out of the picture, that is actually a good thing. It sounds to me like what would do you the most good would be to find a job. Get a reason to keep going, get up in the morning, and all that jazz. And some income from that job could help with your other problems, if you had money you could pay your rent, buy a car, etc. So my thoughts would be that the best thing you could do right now is try harder to find a job. Maybe you can't find a perfect job, but if you could take any job that would help get you out of the current rut you are in. Once you find a job and start to feel a little better, hunting another job will be easier. I do feel for you. I hope you get your life in order soon. Sometimes we all get into these prediciments that can really drag us down. Remember at least this, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger! I hope soon you will be able to look back at this period in your life and find the confidence that you will have earned by surviving it.
  20. When someone uses a cat for an avatar, of course the Sheepdog has to say hi! Cute kittie by the way, even if I'm not a cat person. Such bright blue eyes!Welcome to Xisto, formerly known as Xisto. It's a good forum with lots of helpful people. Hopefully the mycents problem will be fixed soon. Just hang in there and it won't be long and you will have it all figured out.
  21. Actually, I would come closer to believing that we are currently living in hell on earth. That in fact there is no actual other place that is hell that we may go to when we leave here. I think this is hell. Or maybe it's just a test run to see how you do and see if you deserve to get to go to heaven. That would also explain some of the reincarnation theories, you have to keep coming back here until you get it right.
  22. I just wish they would get it working!!!! After the upgrade it took me awhile to figure out how to get in and check my balance, and I'm down to 33 cents, and the invoice will be coming due in just a few more days. How fast is my web site going to get kicked off line if I don't have the mycents in it to cover the invoice?
  23. Weird. Not too long ago we had a discusion about replying to old topics. Being the sort that doesn't get far from home, I wanted to read about this "new" movement, and since it was the second post on the list, you would think it would be a fairly recent one. But here it is from 2006! It sure is easy to reply to old topics when they are so high up on the current topic page. So, by now has this movement faded away and died to be replaced with some new weird movement, or is it still going on?
  24. I don't know about posting ads for hunting a job on Craigs list, but for selling things, I guess it depends on what you have available. I have some friends that use Craigs list and swear by it, but for the most part, if you have a dog, and attempt to post it on Craigs list, the animal rights wacko's get your add removed. I tried it just for the heck of it the other day, and I got about forty or fifty responces that were nothing more than pure scams or just a link to some site selling some kind of junk. It's too bad that it seems there are more people out there trying to cheat people than there are those trying to make an honest living.
  25. No, really don't think it is OCD. Sounds more like just a nervous, compulsive habit. Or simple bordom. Hope you never take up smoking cigerettes! Some people do just to have something in their hands to fiddle with. I think your probably quite normal. Nearly everybody has some sort of nervous habit, some people flip their hair, some crack their nuckles, some chew fingernails, every body has some weird little habit.
