  1. By now I'm sure all of you have heard about the nut job that shot all those people at a political meeting.(unless you have been living under a rock) One congresswoman, Gabrielle Gifford was shot at close range, in the head, she is still alive, but no one knows how much damage was done to her. The shooter, Jason Lee Lougner went into the crowd and opened fire. 6 dead and 14 wounded. One of the dead victoms was a nine year old girl. How horrific and sad is that? Now, in my own mind, I can see being pissed off at an elected official or even a judge, but I fail to understand how anybody could walk into a crowd and just open fire on everyone there. I would like for someone who doesn't believe in the death penelty to explain to me why we should allow this peice of human garbage to live. I understand some of the arguments against the death penelty, for example in the event they aren't for sure if the person actually commited the crime they are acused of. But in this case Jason Lee Lougner was tackled by some brave souls while he was in the process of shooting people, so there is no doubt as to his guilt. And as I already said, I can understand how in a flash of anger a person who was otherwise a good and stable person could kill a single person who had seriously pised them off. Even if it was an accident, if you clobbered somebody only intending to hurt them and they died for some freaky reason, like fell and hit their head I could see not giving them the death penelty. But this guy was a complete lunatic. He had been in trouble in the past, everyone that knew him thought he was a freak. He had threatened other people in the past too. Why should we allow somebody like this to continue to waste the earths oxygen? Keeping in mind that as long as he is alive, there would be a chance that he could procreate, and therefore pass his genetic deficiencies on to another generation. So, try to convince me he should live.
  2. Thanks for the input. I sure need it.My thinking was that since I carry the cell with me all the time anyway, it might be handier to have it all in one device. I would never use the wi fi and wireless internet stuff, when you consider the price tag that comes with those conviences. However, the camara might come in handy at times. Occasionlly people don't have a way to recieve a puppy picture threw a computer email attatchment, so it would be handy to have a back up system for sending pictures. As far as the size of the cell phone, it can't be as big and bulky as my cd player, so that isn't really a concern. I suppose for long trips I would also need a charger type that could be plugged into a cigerette lighter. Do those exist for cell phones? I have a deal that I can actually run my cd player off the sic lighter and not use batteries, which is pretty handy for long trips.
  3. Hopefully this is the place for somebody who is totally in the dark about this subject to have someone show them the light!I got this wild idea that maybe I really did need an ipod, after my road trip this week and trying to keep a cd player working on bumpy highways. If I lay the cd player on the car seat it skips like nuts, I have to lay it on my leg and then it works, but every time I go around a corner or slam on the breaks it ends up in the floorboard. But thinking about that made me think that some cell phones have the ability to hold tunes too, so maybe I should just get a better cell phone. But I have many questions since I know absolutly nothing about cell phones, or Ipods either for that matter. First off. I very rarely even use a cell. The cell phone I have is one of those little cheap jobs, a Walmart $10 special. If I buy $25 worth of minutes they are good for 90 days, and then they don't cancel out the phone for another 60 days, so basicly I can keep it for 5 months for $25. I can't actually use the phone for the last 60 days because they take away the unused minutes, but that's not really a big deal, I very seldom use the silly thing anyway. So for starters, I'm not even sure if I buy my own better phone, can I keep it on this program, or are you forced to use whatever plan goes with the phone you buy? I was thinking I could take the sim card (I think that's what it's called) out of the cheap phone and put in a better one, or is that even possible? On to music storage. I need to be able to download the music I already have on cd to the phone, is that possible? I could of course, download the songs back to my computer and put them on the phone from the computer. I do not want to buy music. No way, I have tons of it now. Do cell phones have head sets that you listen to music on? Or do they play outloud?Keep in mind I DO NOT want to spend any more money than I have to. What are my options?
  4. OMG, That's hillarious! I've been seeing a lot of cartoon type ads made from that site lately, it seems to be getting very popular! They are even doing simular cartoon type ads and playing them on TV. Guess it's a lot cheaper than paying actors!
  5. Yuck. Neither. I don't care much at all for either whimpy sport. Now if you want to see a REAL sport, you have to attend a Rodeo! That's where the real action is, and the real challange and let's not forget the real danger. I mean really, how can you even start to compare get clobbered by some big dude all padded up in protective clothing to getting horned by a ton of hambuger on the hoof???
  6. Wow, peculiar isn't the word to describe this one. How could somebody who was so old they couldn't even walk capable of murdering someone young and able to get away, or you would think someone that age was still capable of flight at any rate. Something pretty fishy going on here I'd say.
  7. Well, it's gross no doubt, but no matter what kind of safty and prevention techniques are used, some things are bound to happen on occasion that no amount of preventitive measures can control. If you think about how many millions of flys and other insects are out there buzzing around, I'm actually surprized this doesn't happen more often than it does. And by the way, food manufactorers are actually allowed by law a certain percentage of "forigen matter" in their food products, I'm not sure of the exact percentage but it's fairly high. Things like bugs and rodent hairs, that sort of thing.
  8. It's not just the freedom of the internet that we are loosing that worries me, it's all the other garbage that is going on, all over the world. And the stupid population just nods and goes back to their TV's and chat rooms and complains and then vote the stupid rule makers right back into office. Look at the recently passed Food Safty Act, (I believe it was SB510?) In the name of "protecting" our food supply the government gained some major controls over private industry, and even the rights of property owners to grow and give food away. Even before the passage of this evil bill we are already dealing with an out of control government, and don't take my word for it, read this insane story http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The government telling you how much food you can grow ON YOUR OWN PROPERTY!!!Did you ever even dream anything that crazy could happen in the United States? It all reminds me of what Benjamin Franklin said about how if we are willing to sacrafice freedom for saftey we will end up having neither, or something like that, I forget exactly how it goes. You know, sometimes I wonder if people even understand the complex idea of freedom. It seems that a whole lot of people want their freedom, and scream like the devil if they feel they have been denyed their rights, but those same people are the first ones that proclaim, "there ought to be a law against that" when someone does something that goes against their personal beliefs. Look at all the stupid city ordinences there are on the books. If you don't mow your lawn often enough to suit your neighbors they run to city council and have a law passed that says you have to mow your grass. Or you can only have this that or the other, and you can only have it if your neighbors think it's ok. Now just how is that freedom for all? Take pets for another example. Many towns have enacted pet limit laws. Despite the fact that pets are considered personal property, you have the government coming in and telling you not only how many, but what kind of pets you can have. Why is it fair that the person who is a responsible pet owner and takes good care of their animals should loose their rights to own the pets that they want because somebody had a different opinion of how pets should be owned or taken care of?So.....what can we do except sit and type and complain? Voting the jerks out doesn't seem to work, we just get in a new bunch that is just as stupid.
  9. He certainly does have a great announcer's voice. It's really wonderful to hear the occasional story about how someone gets a lucky break. Doesn't seem to happen very often, usually it's "if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all!" It's a shame when a persons life is ruined by drugs or alcholol. It's a tough rut to pull out of, and I am glad to hear that this lucky man has gotten a second chance for a good life. Not everyone does. I think in some way's he was double lucky. He had the strength to change his life, and kicked his bad habits, and then got the bob offers and found his way off the streets. I hope he makes the best out of it!
  10. Ok, this is a first! Picking a partner because they are bilingual?????? What ever happened to good looks, cooking skills, personality, money, what ever else we used to do to pick our mates? Is the another product of One World idealogy? Well, anyway, good luck with your search!
  11. How terribly sad! But you should not feel guilty, at least you made her smile and let her know you did care about her. You were friendly with her and kind. Unlike your assinine friends who obviously were mean and hurtfull to her. If anyone should feel bad, it's them. Of course, if they are that mean spirited they probably don't care about her death anyway. You are probably ahead of the game by realizing what kind of "friends" they actually are and getting away from them, as the saying goes, with friends like that who needs enemys?
  12. Loading speed of the forum seems to be extremly sporadic. The other night when I was here it was taking forever for a page to load. I almost gave up even trying to go threw reading the posts. But I knew I really needed to go threw the fourm, as it had been over a week or more since I had checked in. It was slower than I had ever seen it. But there are other times when it loads just as quickly as any other site. I really don't understand the difference, the time of day doesn't seem to matter very much, like if it was being caused by "rush hour" traffic of posters being online here. At least I am staying logged in finally, if I check in every day. Awhile back if I left the forum to check my emails I would be logged out when I came back ten minutes later. That was really frustrating.
  13. Funny, as much as I mostly detest computer stuff, the best way for me to remember something is to use a little note pad I keep on my desk top I have labeled "To Do List" Sticky notes are great for some things, I use them a lot on dog's registration papers to help me remember things about that particular pup, but for getting things done the note pad on the computer works best. I have been trying since the first of Jan to take a new calendar to the kennel, and now, 4 days later I still haven't done it, so tonight I put it on my to do list and so I will see it first thing in the morning, then hopefully I will remember to grab it before I run out the door.
  14. Ahhh, Dracula's old stomping ground! Welcome to Knowldege Sutra! One of the neatest things to me about this board is the huge range of contributors we have from every corner of the globe. Fasinating to me, as someone who rarely gets out of the county, let alone the country! And my spelling sucks too, so I for one will not be critisizing you about that. So no worries there.
  15. Welcome to Xisto. Sounds like you'll fit in here really well, with all your computer expertise. I'm sure it will be easy for you to contribute with all your years in computers.
  16. Wow, great and honerable idea for a web site, I wish you the best of luck. Welcome to KC, it's a great place to post and for web hosting.
  17. Oh cool, another Missourian! So how long have you been in the Show Me State? Don't worry about the name thing either. My name really isn't sheepdog. Honest! (it's Schnauzer, LOLOLOL)
  18. Welcome Carl. Glad to see some new folks joining in. I'm not much on computers myself, so I can't be very helpful in that department, but there are certainly lots of folks here that are so I'm sure if you have a questions somebody here can help. Now if you ever have a dog related question, I'm your resident doggie person. Just one question, what is an HSE?
  19. Ok, maybe, just maybe, your parents are a little over the top. But we have to take into account the whole picture here. You are 16. That just about tells the whole story. I have never heard of any 16 year old that didn't at that point in their life that did get along with their parents. Most time 16 year olds are completely certain that they are smarter than there parents. Yes, every single 16 year old does this, I'm quite certain. Your parents were brought up in a completly different world than you were. Your mothers being frugal is not all that uncommon, it's a frequently observed obsession. I think I may have a touch of it myself, after all, I am posting here to maintain my web site for free, when I could just cough up a few extra dollars a month like a lot of people do. Personally, I think it's a lot smarter to be frugal than to waste money on a lot of stupid stuff that we don't really need. Admittedly, I do prefer it a bit warmer than 55 though. It is the most natural thing in the world for parents to push their children. After all, deep down they really want only what is best for their child. They just may not know how to obtain that goal. They can only do what they have been taught to do and what they think will work the best. There isn't a Dummy's Guide for child rearing. What ever you do, don't cut off your family ties when you get out on your own. You will regret it if you do. It may seem fine for a few years, but as you get older you will start to realize that your parents where actually right at least about some things. You may never agree completely with them, but they are after all, the only parents you have.
  20. Ok, now bulloney. I don't want to be disrespectful, and while I understand what you mean, I do not want you to leave. You are one of my favorite people to argue with. I do agree, this forum is going down hill. I can skip an entire week or more now and not find enough new posts to reply to keep up my hosting credits. But it will just get even harder if you leave. So, what can be done about it? I have seen some very positive comments and some ideas from the members. Surely with all the die hards here we can come up with something positive and helpful. Just one question. Do I not understand the meaning of spam? I consider it those stupid emails you get wanting to buy a puppy and mailing you a check for over the purchase price and having you Western Union the balance back to them. Or the one about how somebody needs help getting their 7 million dollar inheartance, or whatever. I really don't see very much of that. Maybe some really dumb posts occasionally, but I atribute that to the age of members here, the huge cultural variety we have from all parts of the globe that may not have the educational background as we do.

    Thanks Trap17

Really sorry to see you go. It's slow enough around here as it is. Do drop in and visit us, you never know when you might want a web site again.
  22. Thanks, I am feeling a bit better thank goodness. The indegestion still comes and goes, but it doesn't get as bad as it did there for awhile. It almost seems to be tied into eating anything for dinner that has a tomatoe based sause, like spagetti or chili. Weird. Going to the doctor is pretty much out of the question. I reserve doctor visits for near death illnesses only.
  23. Oh ABSOLUTLY!!!! I hit save every few sentences. Sometimes when I've made a fairly long post here I will highlight/copy and save it because there have been quite a few times when posts just sit and don't go threw and I hate loosing anything I've taken the time to type up. So it's not just word that screws up.
  24. I'm sorry you had a bad experience in a chat room, but in all honesty, everyone who ever hangs out much in one sooner or later is going to run into a trouble maker. People are just mean. Some people anyway. And it seems sitting behind a screen and being rather annonomous brings out the worst in many people who otherwise might not be such @$$ holes. Petty, spineless people who wouldn't have the nerve to speak to you in person the way they think they can get away with it from behind the safty of their computer screens. Sad, but oh so true. These folks may cause you to wonder about freedom of speech, but you have to realize what a precious gift this freedom is, and in order for all of us to be able to enjoy it, we have to occasionally put up with some dip stick who would like to abuse the rights of free speech.
  25. Another really pretty day, bad weather in the near forecast, so I got my butt in gear today and decided to burn off my flower bed. It was a perfect day for it, not too cold, clear skies, and most importantly, little to no wind. My better half got an early start too and fixed the flat on the mower so I could mow along the flower bed and blow all the leaves and dead grass on it to burn too. I hauled a big cart load of empty dog food bags up there and strung them out along the bed so there would be plenty of fuel to burn. Wanted to make sure I killed out any lingering funguses that have been wrecking havoc on my zinnias. Anyway, it was going real well. We have a line of 4 outdoor frost proof water hydrants along the bed, and I started soaking the ground down on both sides of the fence when I started the fire so it wouldn?t get away from me. ( I still remember burning down half the county when we tried burning off our garden next door.)I figured I had the ground pretty well soaked, so I disconnected it from one hydrant and was moving to the next one down the line as the fire burned in that direction. I had no sooner disconnected the hose and drug it off that the fire jumped my wetted down row, and headed right for our van! I ran back and tried stomping it out, but that wasn?t working the best in the world, so I ran back to the first hydrant which I hadn?t been using and it had another hose laying by it for watering the dogs, of course, I had to hook up up since we have to drain them in cold weather, and even then it was about 10 feet too short. Talk about SCARY!! Fire was burning all around the tires, and trying to run under the van. We don?t drive the van anymore, but it?s a nice van, and all my winter clothes are still stored in it, haven?t had a chance to get them in yet, so I sure didn?t want to see it go up in flames. I just knew those old dry weather cracked tires were going to ignite! Scared the holy living daylights out of me. I finally got enough mist out of the too short hose on the grass to put it out. That was way to close for comfort! Anyway, the rest of the burn was uneventful, a good thing as I can only handle so much of an adrenalin rush at one time. Now I have to go back over and pull up some of the stalks that didn?t burn and reburn them, but that won?t take too long, and then get the old man to till it up for me. Now that may take awhile. If I get it tilled this winter, I won?t have to wait on him until spring is half over before I get to plant it back again. And this way I can lay up my extra decorations and stuff during the slower winter months to take up some of the room that I will have due to my lack of seed to plant it back.
