  1. No. Simply ask anyone who knows search engine optimization, and they'll tell you that the more sites linking to you, the better. Heck, research it yourself. Go to Google, and learn about PageRanks and its formula. One of the key ingredients in PageRank is how many sites link to you. If you restrict your possiblities, there is no way that you will have a higher PageRank than sites that link to everyone. What you are saying simply doesn't make any sense. If you only link to a specific group of people, the sites linking to you (more pages linking to you -> higher pagerank) will be severely depleted as opposed to just anyone linking to you. I would also like to remind you that the staff at Google does not care about which level domain you are using. Think about it. How do you think other people would react if they find out that Google or any other search engines are biased based on what domain you have? Those search engines would not work very well. Also, the things that index your site (list your site on search engines) are computers. Up until now, I don't know any search engines that care about which sites link to you and what kind of domain you have. Computers are not human. They merely execute commands verbatim and objectively. Period. Melk, I'll link with you if you want. PM me the URL to your button.
  2. I like Microsoft Notepad the most. It's not as clunky as the other programs, and it comes with all Windows operating systems. The only downside to Notepad is that you must know HTML and/or CSS quite a whole lot.
  3. I was going to trade links with you, but I saw that you wanted sites to have similar content and have top-level domain. That's a bad way to get affiliates, and to increase PageRank in my opinion....
  4. Just a heads up...the keys to copy is ctrl+c, not ctrl+v. Becca would be from Xisto, yes. She is also one of the first members at Xisto. I may be wrong about the latter because I'm only judging by the number of posts that she has and not the date that she joined Xisto (too lazy to look). I'd also like to agree with moonwitch on becca's layout - the width needs to be bigger. Also, change the title of your page, becca, if it's not gonna be "temporary dirt". You've had that name since forever.
  5. Hey guys, I currently use Nucleus as my blogging software, but after reading a certain post, I find that the majority of people prefer WordPress over any blogging softwares out there. Anyway, I want to know whether any of the WordPress users have received comment spam. You know, from "people" such as "free online poker." I used Nucleus to power my blog, but I got comment spam a couple of months ago. Then, I found a plugin that makes my visitors type in characters to match randomly selected characters. The plugin is called Captcha. You might have seen a similar one in action when registering for accounts on the web such as Yahoo! or Gmail. Well, when I installed Captcha, I have noticed that people stopped commenting on my articles, but if I remove Captcha, then I get comment spam. Bad situation. I want to switch to WordPress because so many people recommend it, and it says on its front page that it has comment spam protection. I just wanna know how accurate and strong this "protection" is. Thanks!!
  6. No. I reckon that adult sites on a budget will still use .com domains since one can easily get one for less than 5 bucks a pop on special occasions.
  7. MarCrush, I have reported this thread to the admins. They might have made a mistake when making your account....
  8. Yeah, I used to not go to those forums myself until recently, but the idea of a forum is to contribute your ideas to other people, and you should do it regardless of whether you get hosting credits/post count or not. Besides, there are some pretty interesting topics in there.
  9. Well, it seems as if she got some sense knocked into her now because she "left the net."By the way, how did you happen to find her site?? It certainly couldn't be Google because I'm sensing that she just recently stole your layout.
  10. Heh. No problem. If you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask - either by PM or by making a thread. Have fun on your vacation!
  11. 1. Yes. A lot of members have done this before, so you can, too.2. Yes. You just have to delete your old one at https://support.xisto.com/ first. My comment: Don't have you more than 90 hosting credits? If so, then your account will either be suspended or nothing will happen, and you won't have to apply again.
  12. Well, for starters, how many hosting credits do you have? You need at least 30 hosting credits to get package 2....
  13. Hey, can anyone help me generate the code needed for a table that would look something like this? ----------------------------------------------------- | |---------------- | | |---------------- | | |---------------- | | |---------------- | | |---------------- | | |---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ Thanks in advance!!
  14. I can try to answer a few of your questions. Number 2. Go to your cpanel at http://yoursite.trap17.com/cpanel. Change yoursite to the name the prefixes .trap17.com. You chose this when you created your account. Now, find FTP Manager in that big list. You should be able to guide yourself through in the rest as it's fairly easy. Number 3. Did you upload the folder phpBB2 to a folder called public_html? All your files must go into public_html. Good luck!
  15. It's my site, and I'm asking all users of Xisto to rate it, or to give their opinion. Once you have a site hosted here at Xisto, you can post a thread here asking users to rate your site. One last thing, try to post something longer next time or else you will be denied a hosting account.
  16. That's because you're a few days late to respond to this topic. The PageRank came back yesterday or the day before, which is why I'm closing this thread since the PR thing was just a glitch.}
  17. Thank you all for the insightful comments. I think I'm gonna go for a whole different design overall, but that will be a couple of months from now as I have over 200 pages. Bad coding techniques.... Thanks. I was thinking that the font is kind of hard to read and that I should change it. (But I didn't use a serif font for the majority of my site - it was monospace). I'll change it to something more elegant and professional.
  18. I believe you were trying to view the reputation thing in Firefox. Try internet explorer instead.
  19. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Please rate my site. Tell me what you think. What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? Also, tell me what I could do to improve it, and what I could do to keep my unique visitors. It seems as though once they leave, they don't come back. Okay, a little background about it, and why I chose the design. I wanted a simple site, obviously. I didn't want to go all out on the graphics as it takes forever to load on dialup. I coded everything myself with the exception of the blog. Umm, that's about it. I'm also thinking on a new design. Maybe one that's not quite dark....I don't know. Lemme know all your thoughts. Thanks.
  20. Don't know about going back to high school, but there is a 57 year old man who went to a high school prom: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  21. All depends. Why did she break up with you? If it was something that you did, like something silly such as looking at another girl....on television, then I think it's quite possible. If she likes someone else, then you might have a hard time there.Oh, and if I may add something, try to put something in the poem that will remind her of the good things that you guys did. That works. Trust me.
  22. A good way to get good PageRanks is to get other sites to link to you. Preferably pages with good pageranks as well. Don't believe me? Google pagerank and find out how they work.
  23. Yeah, it is because there is no such thing as unlimited space and bandwidth. Don't believe me? Go to a host, sign up, get an account, and upload a large file. Then, tell about 1000 people (get your friends to tell their friends) to download the file. The host will be down faster than you can count to x. Also, this problem seems to be solved now, so I'm closing this thread.
  24. I approved this tutorial so that other members who do not have cPanel in their web hosting and who find us on google will know how to make a 404 page. Now, Shawn, I believe that you are referring to fsastraps' 404 tutorial. His code was merely for "myerrorpage.html" so to speak. I know he did not make a .htaccess file as you did because Xisto already has that. You can also make 404 error pages, as well as other error pages, without doing what you did, so there is no need to flame.By the way, Windows XP can make .htaccess. I know because I've done it several times.
