  1. If you're going to dive into the world of databases, use this: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It's a control center for mysql that lets you see things in a neat little table. It definitely helped me. I started using mysql about 2 weeks ago (my site is now powered by it), and this tool helps me to make quick and easy changes to my table without using a script.
  2. Okay, okay, we all agree that this is spam.Spam -> thread closed!
  3. Depends. Is your site getting decent unique visitors (more than 500 a day). If your site is new, and you're only getting 10-100 uniques (mostly from friends), then I don't think it's worth your while to invest in adsense. Wait until your site is getting a good amount of traffic (preferably from search engines), then sign up. Why? If you're getting the same visitors everyday, then those people will develop something called "ad blindness" where they will eventually shut out your ads from their view. When you go to a site over and over again, don't you agree that you stop noticing their ads after a while? And if people don't click your ads, your click through rate will decrease, and your total earnings will decrease overall since that depends on your CTR.
  4. I say the font could be better. Since you're using a small sized font, it's important to turn off anti aliasing or else your font will be blurry. Besides, you want your button to look attractive so that people will click on it.
  5. Don't we all? Enjoy your stay here!
  6. When did he say that? Read it again. Michael, you should provide a link to robot renders or whatever render you're asking for because some people might not have the particular category that you're looking for, and they'll be shut out as a result. Surely you don't want that.
  7. No, truefusion said that you got it figured out...which is not the same thing as "okay." Wiss is right because you do have it figured out, but you took it a step too far. Try making the background a little bit more colorful, and try your hardest to preserve the render's original color.
  8. Right, but say the database is down...will the rest of my script still execute or will it stop right there?
  9. Are you trying to retrieve stuff from your database and then print it out or are you just using the SELECT query?
  10. Another question -> another postI have another question. Is there a way for MySQL and PHP to continue executing if the MySQL DB goes down?
  11. Where'd you get that idea? Read my post again. Yes Dooga, we established that.
  12. Recently, I recoded a part of my site so that it uses a MySQL database to store information instead of on a text file. Because my site receives a lot of traffic and it's on a shared hosting environment, the DB could potentially go down. Since I don't want to lose my visitors, I want to know if there is a way to tell when the MySQL DB is down. I know that I could add a die function along with the mysql_connect function: mysql_connect("localhost", "username", "passwordl") or die("Something here."); I want it to do more than just print a line stating the problem--I want it to store a variable. Is there a way to do such thing? Thanks!
  13. It looks like a site where you can create your own 3d avatars by choosing body type, hair color, clothes, etc. :-/
  14. Ahh, pandora.com. I love its service, but with my dialup connection, it makes going through the music suggestion difficult. If you're bored, you can always use pandora to find out possible albums that you can buy next time you're at the store. Good stuff!
  15. Make the render a bit bigger, fill up those blank spots in your sig, and stretch the pixel font at the bottom out a bit.
  16. December 25th is also Sir Isaac Newton's birthday, and it's also the birth of the web browser.
  17. Yeah, a web browser needs a LOT more code than that. What you're doing, like Inspiron said, is making your very own custom Internet Explorer. It's like taking the source code of Firefox and modifying it to your likings...except less complicated.
  18. Yeah, the payrate of Yahoo is much higher. I've seen that my ctr with Yahoo is about 50% higher than Google's.If you want to apply, make sure your site gets heavy traffic. Mine gets about 1 million pageviews/month, and it took me about half a month to get a reply from them after my application.
  19. Actually, you get the suspended page. I don't think there's a such thing as the bandwidth exceeded page. How would I know? I got that. My site was suspended because it used too much bandwidth (66 GB/5 GB if I'm correct). After a month or so, your site will be accessible again.
  20. No. Wikipedia is pretty accurate when it comes to supplying information. It's that one thing that caused all this stuff. Check this out: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The reason why Wikipedia can give you stuff before it comes out (the Britney Spears thing) is that everyone can edit it. I'm guessing that someone who works for Britney Spear's recording company came to Wikipedia and wrote about it. :-/
  21. I can't disclose my actual amount, but I can give you a ballpark figure--$100/day. My weekends tend to be lower, but my weekdays are huge. If you want to know how to get that amount, you should read http://www.problogger.net/. The guy earns $1000/day.
