I use Xmarks on firefox for bookmarks management but often i do extract URLS from other documents like word and pdf docs. That way it becomes hard for me to manage bookmarks. I was thinking about desktop based solution for that. I also considered some of the tricks related to delciious mass link uploads but they're not good solution and are rather more uncomfortable. So asked for the URL organizer on superuser and found"linkman". It has both free and paid versions. Free versions with some limitations of course. I think there are some storage and other features missed in the free version compared to the paid version. Linkman has both firefox and desktop version. Firefox or browser add-ons work similar to the xmarks or any other bookmarking add-on. Other than that they also keep the data indefinite period for free users. So using desktop version of the software makes sense. Desktop version also has free edition with some limitation. You can use it regularly if you have limited use. If you use more than free edition can offer, then better to upgrade the desktop version. That way you can do much more with the software. It also offers search tool so that you can check your old bookmarks in the software db. This feature is common in both free and paid versions. It offers URL information storage in following format - Name, URL, Keywords, Comments and other information. It stores data in similar fashion to that of delicious. It also lets you catalog the links as per your usage. You get instant search feature in the search option. That way you can type and check the related links. This way you can maintain a lot of links inside your organizer. You also get to manage the collections as per the keyword. These features are added into browser extension as well. But some are only limited to the desktop like instant search one, the last time i checked. If you keep a log of authority and research based sites. Or you keep track of some of the hot sites in your niche or business then organizer like this will surely help those who need it. For me i am comfortable with free version as of now. If you want to check this URL organizer you can download linkman here.

Facebook's New Profile Page - The Timeline
mahesh2k replied to H.O.D's topic in Websites and Web Designing
As far as i know they're not yet ready for rolling out this change. The reason is there that facebook has new lawsuit against them because they used name timeline. So most likely this change will not be rolled out unless they settle this in or out of the court. Till then this feature is only for the developer access and for those who got the beta preview invite. Other users are not yet using this feature and will not notice the difference as well. They can however see the changes on profile which are under this new change. To be hones this looks more like orkut and myspace like theme change to me. With addition of timeline posts and other stuff. I like the top banner type thing which people can use for some eye candy display. ABout.me was the one having such style of profile. I think now it's available in facebook makes about.me go down in popularity. In any case professional profile look is surely a good idea. I just hope that they don't more stalking features on their list. Because the stock ticker style with chatting stuff is already making things weird for most of us. This timeline can be controlled if you hide the old posts. If you do that then surely it'll hide the posts else it'll not be possible to hide them and will surely appear in the past posts from users. Worry cause for those who are using the profile for more than 3 to 5 years of facebook usage. For those who want to get around this timeline and other new changes, they can use better facebook app. This app has extensions for browsers like firefox, chrome etc. It makes privacy much controlled and you can also control some elements of timeline as well. -
Ubuntu 11.10 - Oneiric Ocelot - Has Been Released!
mahesh2k replied to H.O.D's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I just noticed that they have close, maximize and minimize buttons on some of the unity windows. Is there any chance that we can use alternate unity themes ? i mean to replace that type of annoyance. It could be just me but left hand side minimize, close stuff that is running on unity for quite some time. I am beginning to think that it is more of annoyance. I'm all for changing that behavior of the current unity desktop. Or maybe i have to simply switch to XFCE desktop. I think switching to xubuntu makes sense as we're more comfortable with the desktop compared to unity. I am all for design changes but some uncomfortable changes are not easy to tolerate. I am going to ask the same question in ubuntu forums. The reason is that i prefer simplistic desktop over shiny clutter. Another thing i noticed with unity desktop is that they have now a cloud service. This cloud service offers syncing of about 1GB of data. You know about unity ONE service ? that is the name for this file storage and backup service for ubuntu users. They're going to keep windows version of the same too. But not sure when that client is going to be released. I also noticed that since last few releases most of the linux distros are ditching OOO in favor of libre office. So it looks good for those who wish to switch from OOO. Moving to thunderbird is also a good move. Only thing i am worried about ubuntu is that the maintainers of the package are thinking in a weird way. For example sometimes they keep on changing some apps in the deafult installation. So if the users getting used to one and if they upgrade to the new version. Non-techie folks will find upgraded software with some learning curve. I can understand that techies can download the package they choose but non-techies rely on us for their get-used to app installation. In this situation i think canonical should think plenty of times before ditching the apps. -
I have BB and i can tell you that sometimes ISP also makes mistakes with BB service. I recently got jailbreaked version of BB and not using BB messenger anymore. I am using opera mini on it and it is the application which is open 24x7. Also i have notifo software service enabled which lets me know if i get emails from particular clients and web services. For example, if any email comes from paypal i get notified in the SMS section. So that way i keep track of the services. This type of work may be hard to setup at first but it helps you make platform independent. I mean you don't have to worry about such service from blackberry and android app. I think this type of way could give you one option in case of outages. I can understand we buy blackberrry for taking care of all these hassles. But sometimes external service in pipe method gives much better and reliable option of doing work. This is what i think. Blackberry is useful for those who type a lot. Because touch screen based devices are really annoying and often not suitable for those who have big fingers and find it hard to type on touch screen. But i have to agree that blackberry is not entrainment device and lack of FM and bad speakers proves the point. But for the automation stuff, i think they have some serious tools in business and "get things category". For everything else there are always android, iphone and other devices.

Found one more software like pixbuilder studio so thought to update this thread. This new software is "realworld paint". This software is free of cost and runs on 32 bit version of the operating system, windows. No linux or mac version as of yet. But i guess they do have some plans to go ahead for the same. As for the features, they're quite the same like pixbuilder and in some cases there are few more features too. Interface is similar to photoshop and the pixbuilder studio. I have seen that there are support for the minor effects just like pixbuilder studio and they also work with layers. You can do most of the photoshop style tasks. But of course there is limit to how much you can do with it. But it can be a good replacement for the pain and pain.net software. it is also free and comes with the automatic update and other features of modern software. As for system resource, it's lightweight and not much of heavy on your system. I think if you have limited use for the image manipulation then either pixbuilder studio or the realworld paint should be enough for the needs. You can read more about the application and download from the realworld paint website. As i said earlier, it is free software and it can also run from the USB and the standalone folder, so you can try it without much registry clutter.

Can Facebook Be Overthrown By Google+ ?
mahesh2k replied to H.O.D's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Fanbois are already there in case of google+. All you can see in their posting is rant against facebook, twitter and microsoft. I mean most of those social media people who are on google+ are either ranting against microsoft praising apple or blaming facebook. So it is totally boring already because of these people. As for subscribing to them, i unfollowed them when i found out about them. Take example of guy kawasaki, robert scoble and chris pirilio. These guys are in the first when it comes to google+ ranting fest. As for google+ features, google copied twitter and facebook and tried to come up with something on their own. Twitter last week changed it's layout and now looks exactly like google+. I mean in terms of follow, image and video view and similar features. There are few features going to be there in future like google+ from twitter but have to wait and see how that goes.As for privacy and other stuff, it's not premature to say how they'll perform. They did wrong with orkut and other security stuff on any of their web apps. They have SMS based anti-captcha but bots even passed through it and now are making things easy for spamming. The reason i'm not g+ is same. Once it is open for flaws, it'll be taken over by spammers just like orkut. Some people may not like this if they're google fanbis but that's the way it is. It's also hard to trust google when it comes to privacy especially when they're rolling out features spy on friends share of links or +1s. -
Yordan, Windows 7 Makes use of backwards compatibility support and virtual machine feature. I am sure you know about their virtual machine mode for the XP compatibility and the driver support system for the windows 7. There are plenty of articles which explains this in better way than what i can do here. This makes it easy for the operating system to roll back driver state for the old operating system version. So if your drivers work with windows XP theya re surely going to work under windows 7. In case of vista, that facility was not there. They just messed up with many of the features related to the file system, processes and the drivers. So this whole mess ends up in less support for devices and overall unstable system. The reason windows 7 was quickly rolled out is because they fixed these issues and allowed old hardware to accept under this OS. As you know systems purchased in 2006 are likely to run windows 7 without any changes. For example, old pentium 4 processors are still running windows xp and so they can run windows 7 without any issues. I'm damn sure that your printer drivers are likely to run under windows 7 without any issues. I'm just not sure about some of the drivers in vista because that was total fail.

Snipplr has a lot of information related to the wordpress if you're interested. Some of the old and new snippets are there. You'll find that sections like HTML, CSS and Wordpress are more active over there than any other language. I didn;t find much on ironpython and the ruby on rails codes over there. I mean the one i wanted to see. I guess people are not sharing that stuff much. But that site is really good place to share and store the code snippet. That way you'll get some serious stuff done quickly. I have also checked the new software called snippely which is adobe AIR based software. So those who hate flash or AIR are going to hate that again. It has very simple interface. The program has sidebar where you make groups and on right hand side add new code or just drop it in the text area. It may look ugly on some parts but it is useful. For those who save some serious stuff for daily usage. Something like CSS layouts for the design or the regular email text template. I think most of us can use this for normal usage. Check the snippely here.

This is really sad for tech industry. I would rather see some conservative politicians in my country die instead of people in tech industry who are contributing much positively to society other than rants, tirades and corruption. Okay that aside, he'll be in memories of countless apple fans and haters. Even bill will remember him for as long as his lifespan goes. Both were good competitors and did good contribution to the computer field. I don't know if the rumor is true or not about the word S in new IPhone4S. But if it is then that S stands for the name of Steve. Minimalism, frugality and quality is what apple concepts used to be. Though some of the products were fail and are not even worth buying but that's okay. I think steve did good with his share of the products. I wonder if the company will be able to keep things flowing that way. Positive talks aside there are some serious things going on with apple. For example, intellectual property and patent stuff. I mean making patent for almost anything to get competition out ?that sounds like an issue which is going to get apple out of market. I mean their recent lawsuits on samsung for the galaxy tab distribution in korea and europe sounds like a bad end to the apple company. As for other CEO and directors in the apple. I doubt anyone will keep the way company was flowing when steve was there. I also think that unless they get prices down, it'll be hard for them to be a seller of the tech stuff. They lost icon in company. Now they need to get help of celebs and other social media people for the marketing.

I found snipplr while i was looking for piece of code for some task. I think that site has big storage of codes online. They're growing rapidly too. They have some tools that fetches data from desktop to their online storage. But i was looking for a software that lets me store the code without having to connect to the internet. I found that there are many such softwares but one or the other way they need access to the internet. Then there are some commercial softwares like "snipp-it" professional version which are paid and does the job. I'm not into payment mode for now so there is no way i'm going to use the software which is commercial. So started searching for the free alternative. Then i found this DTT or "developer's tips and tricks" software that stores the code offline on storage. DTT is donationware software that produces two versions of software. One is supporters edition and freeware. Freeware has most of the free features and some of the features are reserved for the supporters edition. You're not going to lose much if you stick with the free version of their software. In fact for the most of the simple use you can have the freeware version. This will get your most of the work done, just fine. Only thing you have to do is switch to supporters version if you need more features and if you want to support the developers for the work they have done on the software. I think it's fair if you're using their software regularly and want to continue using it and wish to support developer. Software is very easy to use and store your code snippet. In left side bar you have folders sorted as per programming language name. There are some sample code in it as well. You just have to check the folder and add new file to it. YOu'll be able to follow the syntax highlighter as per the languages. Other than code you can also store flowcharts as images. You can get the flowcharts done in other softwares like VUE, visio and xmind, i discussed them before in another thread. So overall freeware version has everything you need for sorting the codes as per your needs. You can download the develoeprs tips and tricks software from freesoftware land.

lol @velma. I don't know if there is any other way better than posting. If others here post new good topics or comment on existing ones. Then surely forums will be active again. Other than that i have no ideas for making forums active.

MS Paint is not enough for the most needs of the designers or the users. In such case better option for the photo and the file format manipulation is always with adobe photoshop. It offers more options than any other photo manipulator and image editing tool. But the thing with that is it being commercial and it costs a lot of money. SO for small daily tasks, it is like putting a burden on pocket. So photoshop is out of comparison for the image editing. There is another software called paint.net but it is dependent on the .NET framework. Also the compatibility issues of the software due to .NET makes it less as an option for old computers. or with computer installed with SP2 of XP or vista. In such cases many users prefer not to download the software due to the regular update of the framework and the compatibility of the paint.net software. But for some users it works without any issues and for them it is still a good software to use. Pixbuilder studio is an alternative to the paint.net and the MS Paint. This software is written is another MFC or Win 32 based application. This software doesn't require .NET framework at all. You'll get most of the work done even on old computers running win xp sp1, win xp sp2 and vista. It also takes less resources than any other image editor. So overall it has everything we need for the average image editing. It works with most of the file formats that other image editing softwares supports. It also lets you edit the icon files with .ico extension. You can also work with layers just like you used to do with the photoshop or the paint or GIMP. You also get step wise undo option for upto say 10 or so levels to undo stuff you do on the photo. It also comes with limited number of effects that you can do with normal photo editing software. Like photoshop it also supports the preview option before letting you export to save or print the image. So you can see this is one handy tool for the image editing. You can download the pix building studio from the official site of wnsoft. It is free and less resource hungry and small download. Try it if you are doing the image manipulation regularly.

Earlier i have used Xmind and similar mind mapping softwares and wanted to get more into concept mapping area. Issue with concept mapping is that you can't use mind mapping software for the same. As it involves more pointers and stuff that makes a map. So you have to look for the concept mapping softwares. There are many concept mapping softwares in the market. For example, microsoft visio and few others. But most of the functional mind mapping and concept drawing softwares are commercial and requires payment. For those who are on low budget should consider softwares like diag, vue and other softwares into the concept drawing field. Diag is one free software written in GTK that runs on multiple platforms. But it has few limitations of use and is extremely hard to use. For example, diag has trouble with editing some properties of your concept. I have found that there are restrictive ways to using the diag. You can not use it the way you use visio and some other online mapping softwares like the brain, creately etc. Here comes vue, which is one good concept drawing software that has most of the features of the mindmap software and the concept drawing software. it is free software and is released by the tufts. You'll find that it yet another application that runs on java and hence it is cross platform for the same reason. Panels are similar to adobe software and has property editing and other settings. Compared to diag it has much cleaner and easy to visualize layout. You'll also find that there are some decent export and import options in this software. So far i have not done much to take full benefit of this software. But surely i'm going to use it for some of my work. It is also good for typical mindmap if you want to use it that way. You can download the VUE from their official site. It requires opt in or say email registration which they collect to check number of the downloads done by people. Versions are not regular but you'll get new version when most of the operating systems update. That aside do take a look at community maps and examples too.

As per their site, current version is 3.0 which is updated this year. Before that they had release named cook. So that version 2 or so is going on even after 2008. So maybe that they're into this release and shown that in front page. Check if the version 3 has everything you want. You can even run it under virtual machine like say bochs or virtual box ? I guess it works under these two just like vmware. Also the installation is very easy and in just 10 or so minutes you'll get functional desktop. Early version of slitaz was at 25 MB. Of course some of the stuff was turned off in that. Compared to puppy linux and damn small linux it is still small. So for most of the boot related stuff and the live cd it is good option.Being a frugal distro, you have to add additional software packages inside the distro. Only drawback is that you'll hit some german text once in while. I did find it and so same with yordan :unsure:As you're using linux mint for the low down version of ubuntu. I am sure you'll like the slitaz distro. If not just turn off the virtual machine. lol. For graphics and the apps it may not be the type of distro you want to use.

Hindus only want intellectual superiority because they were tortured by mongols and british and other rulers in past. That aside, they have no issues with fundamental islamics and christians who are preaching "have 5 kids and get 10k ruppees per child" in kerala(indian state) newspaper ads. Hindus here are much tolerant but they created castes within their religion for structured dominance in society. Slowly even hindus are becoming more negative like Christians and forcing their beliefs on localites here. I have seen racial comments by aussies in cricket and we all know how many and which cricket players are racist. I don't know but is it just me or some racist countries like AU feel uncomfortable with india or other third world countries ? i have seen even one of my friends friend who is into labor commenting in health group how she feels good not to be admited in any third world hospital. I don't understand one fact that why developed nations assume that there are metro cities which are developed enough with facilities in india. Why compare your countries facilities with villages in india ? Also why compare at all ? if you're developed nation, why you feel proud when you compare ? aren't you at the top already ? or you feel uncomfortable somewhere that third world countries are progressing ? sorry for the rant but that's my recent observation.

The Most Elegant Linux Distribution
mahesh2k replied to manuleka's topic in Websites and Web Designing
LOL@Yordan By the way beauty of linux operating system is that no matter what distro you use, basic stay the same. You don't have much learning curve from one to another version of kernel update. All you have to do is keep up with the window managers and their respective changes. That is all one needs with linux. Otherwise terminal life is still the same and i'm sure that those who love linux for the terminal are still using it for the same reason. Window manager are evolved with time, take case of gnome and KDE. Both are undergone some changes which have lots of learning curve and for average linux user it is quite uneasy to digest. I guess this thing happens with almost everyone using another OS as well and much more in comparison to the linux. What i like about linux is it's decentralization. I can cookup my own linux distro and use it on vmware or directly on any hard disk. Also i can choose the apps i want to use on linux. In case of windows or apple, when they make big changes and drop apps or features it becomes hard for us to get back. In case of linux we have plenty of options and most likely many good things like apps and features are still there. YOu're not tied to any service or company. You just get it from any source possible. That is the reason slowly i am planning to move to linux. As windows 8 is going to break many things in future like OEM boot keys and metro UI etc.As for your question of most elegant linux distribution, i think Ubuntu with unity desktop seems to be the way to go. I do think mint and mephis are good. But i guess opensuse, fedora are too heavy for my needs. -
Windows 8 - Preview Just downloaded......
mahesh2k replied to mahesh2k's topic in Websites and Web Designing
By the way i was just checking the news related to the upcoming features in the windows 8 and found that there are some major changes going on with windows 8. In future, windows may be locked down for the OEM installations. That means you're not allowed to dual boot with previous versions of windows and linux installations. So basically you'll be restricted to windows 8 and that is it. Some may go with the argument of why you need older installation or linux. But these are short sighted arguments and we can see this type of hardware or vendor lockdown is going to cause some issues. I do think that independent installations that we do using our own assembled built machine will be free from this. But if they add this boot keys to all the versions of windows then chances are there that some users may move to linux for the same reason. I mean if you're not allowed to dual boot then there is hardly any choice you get like apple on their hardware machines. But here the thing is that microsoft is trying to lock the vendors by their certification and the keys. You can read more information about this here and here. They may be doing this to stop the people from doing the another OS installation on their phones and hardware that they are selling. For example, HP pad allowed multi boot and many users tested some of the linux distros on these pads. By doing this they were tested specific versions. Granted this may be competition killer. But they want to be more of host application and that is why they are interested in locking down the hardware. It is possible that some may come up with jailbreak installations but in that case they lose the warranty and the official support frm the site and store. So till the period of hardware usage no one is going to do play with their money unless they have enough to manage for jailbreak. But considering apple phones and the tablets are jailbreaked for the linux, it is possible to do this with windows as well. Not that most of the users would like to do that. But it is good to have that type of feature if win 8 somehow forces this type of thing. I guess they're doing it for the sake of the competition with apple and want to capture the linux market where they lost some of their desktop shares. Not sure if that works for most of the users. But it is not working for me. I may switch to linux or use assembled machine and install windows that way. I don't know what most of the astahosters are going to do if they wish to purchase boxed hardware from say newegg or wallmart or some another company. -
Pay Per Impression Programs CPM (Cost per M, not million)
mahesh2k replied to OpaQue's topic in Online Advertising
@Ahsaniqbal, smowtion has very low CPM rate and is not at all considered as worthy for CPM ads. Buysellads and Influads are paying high rates for the CPM. Influads has rate that even adsense earning can't match. it is show on some of the popular sites on the web. Take case of signal vs noise blog from the 37 signals. they're the one using these ads networks on their properties and geenerating enough revenues. As for you learning from leaders in your niche. You have to understand that leaders in niche is subjective stuff. For example, ehow and about.com are getting more traffic after panda last two months and google is not even calculating their traffic properly. About.com is not running adsense ads but more of custom ads which includes all the advertisers possible from CPC networks. Considering you're following them as an example, you really think these corporation will let you have high CPM advertisers on your blog ? lets keep quality and stuff aside, it's the competition that matters. And they're cashing in on that way. What you see doesn't have to be the same for earning markets. For example, US based sites are showing adsense for asian users and some CPM ads for local users. By that way they are earning much more than adsnese earning. So are you deducing that you'll do much better by following your competitors. You have to understand competitor analysis and when to let it go when it comes to results. As for chitika ads, they perform well on US based sites. Have you done ranking analysis and traffic from US on your site. If so, have you asked chitika if they have relevant ads ? if not then you're better off running affiliate ads that convert for your niche than using CPC ads. It's all about better conversion. CPC ads may be relevant and pay less. Affiliate ads can pay more if they';re relevant. 7K/Day is the traffic rate of duckduckgo.com search engine in 2010, they used to get more than 16$ CPM rate. I guess you have to dig deep that much to see how much they pay for super relevant traffic. Now that duckduckgo.com is using carbon ads and influads, they're going to earn a bit more. Your problem is that you're thinking CPC as more value than CPM and affiliate ads. It's not that way and in case of panda, CPC text ad based site is likely to get hit more than CPM banner ads. That's what my observation says in case of US based traffic. As for about.com, they show adsense ads for asians and low CPM countries. For local us and canada they show custom ads. You are also wrong on ad placement thing. You're allowed to have 3 image/flash ads and 3 link units. So total of 6 units per page are allowed. Also there is thing called premium adsense publisher which has higher limit of ads and better CPM rates. Adsense will let you know if you reach that point. Same goes for demand media, they show custom ads for local traffic. Do check this by going through the proxy and i mean genuine proxy not some free site that browses for the sake of anonymity. You need proxy IP to check these sites for local view in US and Canada. You'll notice that they run campaigns for local traffic. Hubpages is doing this for quite some time now. You think ehow and about.com will leave behind ? Facebook ads are super relevant to user, activity, groups. In case of adwords, they're just slapping the ads on users. Do read this post if you want to know about goodness of adwords. -
Only if they find it to begin with. So initially you have to do some self promotion. There are many sites who fail without this type of self promotion. Even with self promotion some sites do fail to get attention. Unless if you get attention there is no way people can link to it. Attention as in facebook page, tweet and any other way possible. I think you should consider using social media in case of promotion. For some sites it works and you hardly need to do search optimization. But this type of promotion has it's limitation and that is why many webmasters prefer SEO.

Who's Familiar With Twitter? I am looking for a certain plugin/widget
mahesh2k replied to mrdee's topic in Computer Networks
You can use tweetdeck and huitsuite web app for that. It notifies you when you get @message or tweet or tweet from your followers or following list. I think tweetdeck or twhirl is enough for the needs. Twhirl and twitdeck both notifies and shows icon when update comes. I just don't know if they go to system tray and show update from there. That type of feature will be killer. Anyway, hope either one of these will help you out. Twhirl - http://www.twhirl.org/ Tweetdeck - https://about.twitter.com/products/tweetdeck -
Electronic Music Electronic music recommendations
mahesh2k replied to mariodesign's topic in Art & Creativity
AFAIK, Enrique is not into electronic music. My electronic music list - Phillip Alpha - Valente (Original Mix) Space Frog - X ray (Follow me) Chris Cowie - House Of God (Original Mix) Daniel Kandi & Phillip Alpha - Don't Fix It (Original Mix) Stoneface and Terminal - Inner Voice (Dub Mix) ATB - Marakech (Airplay mix) Ferry Tayle-trapeze(daniel kandi remix) and list goes on... There are many good trance, dance, house music i can add to the list. But for now these are the ones i'm listing recursively. -
I was looking for software to clear my startup applications and apps that are taking most of the reosurces. I found tha tmost of the software claiming to clean this are misguiding. None of the softwares so far did what they claimed. SOme just remove the registry entries, some just randomly clean some xyz files and claim for faster boot. some were even worst and are taking their own resources. so had enough of this and asked this in another forum for the better fix of the boot and some other stuff on windows. I found soluto which was free as solution to this problem. I dont know how they're making money as of now but it looks like they are into minimalism and are giving better results with their software. So decided to check out. You can download it without any risk as it is free and has no system footprint like any other crapware programs. They're calling this software as "anti-frsutration" software. I don't know which type of category this software is going to be. But it looks like this is PC cleaner and system utility for windows. It is really the best one out in this category. As said earlier it is free for download from this site. Installation is painless and doens't contain any crapware offers and toolbars in it. It is completly free as in no strings attached for now. It installs quickly by standard wizard stuff. then it asks you to reboot the system. By rebooting the system you let them collect data about boot time, apps starting and services starting. This way they collect information about system and it's improvement. I found this type of approach good in case of freeware software. It tells you the time it takes to boot and how you can fix it and what should be done in case of new programs in boot. Once installed it also stays in the system tray to see if they can be of any use for your future fixes and tune ups. It tells you three types of startup programs that can be fixed with soluto - no brainer, potentially removable and not removable. No brainer are the type of startup programs that can be removed without hesitation and will not affect your installation or other services. In case of potentially removable programs, you can ask others or see the hint from the soluto to make decision. Third category which says, can't be removed, is not worth of attention as soluto can not do anything about it. You'll also get more information about how they're affecting the performance by hovering over them. You'll get some detailed stats about them which are going to impact your service. User interface is very clean and easy to navigate. You'll find what to do and what not to in the window. It also lets you know where to go by typical guideance type pointers, which are quite easy to notice if you start to use the interface. Once you do the changes as per soluto then you'll notice that system is much more usable than before. In some of the cases where your system has less startup programs and services you'll not see the difference. But for the rest of the time, you'll notice that the performance of the system is much improved than before. For me these were the observation. I know they're going to add more features to their software. I have seen few other features as well but not much used them as of now. Genome - knowledgebase is one more upcoming feature that is going to help you for sure. This knowledgebase is going to let you have information about programs that are causing some issues with system. You'll be able to commit this information to their server and from there they're going to check with others for it's performance. So like this they're going to improve the service. I found this software good for my use and decided to share with you folks here. Let me know if it is useful or in some way good software for you. I would like to see if anyone here on asta used that software.

Windows 8 - Preview Just downloaded......
mahesh2k replied to mahesh2k's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Check this thread to see how you can run the windows 8 for your version of vmware. Some folks are running vmware server for installation and then player for the normal usage. It is working for them. Some folks are using vmware images from torrents or player images. I don't know if those are working for most of the folks. but for me the fix from the forum seems to be working fine. I am using the server edition of the vmware by the way. So my version and your in the updates are likely to have some difference. I don't know for sure what could work for you in that case. You can check out if that fix in the thread works for you. Most likely it should work for you on your version of the vmware. -
Web based chat rooms from yahoo are no longer alive. Only chat rooms that are there on the messenger. I don't know how many countries are still supported under this new version of yahoo messenger. But it seems there is no chat feature for this messenger. I could be wrong and this could be a corporate version of messenger. I have seen that the chat feature is missing in this version. Also IMprovements which are on public version are also missing in this messenger version. That aside, earlier these chat rooms and collab games on yahoo used to be rage. But now a days, it is really hard to have people on such chat rooms. I don't know how many users even waste their time on IRC. Most likely people are going to be in facebook or twitter or google+. That aside i have not been on yahoo chat for years. There used to be days when i used to spend some time chating with people. Now a days i am using social networking for the same. Not good as it is not anonymous and most of the info that you want to know about other person is already revealed and not worth to know. So topical chat rooms are good and can be fun. I doubt chat rooms other than IRC will remain much on the internet. There is meebo and meebit which are supporting chat rooms. But other than that IRC is only the place that is going to remain on the internet for the chating. Be it anonymous or real name chat, that seems to be the future of the chat.

I don't know if most of the users on Xisto are using mindmaps. But while searching for some task list programs i came across some of the variations of mindmaps software. For example, xmind is one mindmap software which is based on eclipse engine. This application looks and works same like any other eclipse application but it allows mindmaps to be developed and export, import inside it. It has both freeware and premium application. But here i''m going to let you know about freeware features of the application. As i said this application is freeware with some limitations. Like exporting to pdf and mapping of the pdf for links and form etc type of features. Also there seems to be one more feature in paid version called "hyat maps or something like that. I don't know what that feature is in paid version but i don;t see it in my use for now. So there is nothing that i have lost with the paid version of the software. Xmind can be downloaded from this xmind site. Most of the freeware features are enough for you nitially so there is nothing to expect from paid version. As it is eclipse based so expect some slow loading as it has java engine running behind. Also do pay attention to the format you export. Other than it's own native format, rest of the formats are non-importable once you export..e.g jpg, png and rest. Coming back to mind map. The point of mind map is that it can be used to visualize structured and connected information. Sometimes you can use it for the lists. Sometimes you can use for loging certain patterns and the type of tasks that you want to do with the software. I have found that simple academic loging of information is not needed in my case. I think using it for task list was one good ieda Something like list the task as per their importance and connect them to central blob. Morning >iron>coffee> newspaper. Etc. type of information in mindmap format. I know it may sound stupid to some of you and you may use it in any other manner possible. But i have noticed that it's good to use the mindmap in a way that suits my curernt requirement. I wanted to log some tasks in order that i perform daily. It should be automated in some cases. So that is why tasks list helps. Mind map made it easy for me to visualize this list. I have added the tasks in the blob and then connected them in such way that it makes sense to me. Mindmaps work like charm in this case. I don't know how they'll work for you but do give it a try. I'm sure you'll find them beneficial for your use as well.
