In that case you should go with either mybb or punbb. I am not sure about themes in punbb but it's fair knowing it works better than other forum softwares. You can also go with fluxbb or vanilla. i use vanilla for one of my friends forum. If you like mybb then go for it as community is active there you will rarely face any issues. Avoid SMF, PhpBB from now on no matter how drastically they improve. unless they constantly keep their updates each month don't bother thinking about them. Microsoft Word on Windows and OSX will not show you any difference in performance. Word under win4lin or crossover will have it's issue irrespective of RAM and other system resource for linux. Open office leaks more memory and has more crashes on windows and OSX than linux. Ask people out there how many tiems OO crashes on windows and OSX. The number is more on OSX than on windows. OO obviously performs better on linux plus releases and fixes are quick on linux. Firefox eats more memory irrespective of the operating system. I'm sure this is where chrome will take over it soon. Games is another thing which game development companies decide based on the profitable platform. So fat windows and OSX are the profitable platform because people actually think about spending money on there. Performance wise graphically rich games are there on windows than osx and linux. OSX lost flash as gaming platform whereas linux platform thrived on getting it on their platform. OSX needs to come up with their own directx like sdk for gamers if they want to attract more customers.I do agree that for server side linux performs well especially if we work on php. That aside limited students using lab for windows server 7 installation will have no issue imo. But that depends on what we do with it.

Well if you want to learn to create themes then sure you can go ahead. But if you are into site for making money to pay your hosting bills or want to attract more traffic then it really doesn't matter who created theme. Current 2 units of 512 makes your ram go at 1 gb and few MB less than that. so test again with single unit so that you can conclude it is not being resource hungry.

Well don't just make your opinion based on forum replies. Keep one thing in mind that is any CMS and forum software is easily hackable if hackers are onto finding loopholes. Remember one thing that if community is actively reporting bugs then it becomes easy to fix bugs for them. Drupal is very good at that in comparison to other CMS when it comes to security. Wordpress is more into commercial apps and plugins so you can guess how much they care about security. yes these two are good cms in comparison to others. But the point is moderators have access to admin much quickly than rest of the members. Some members even communicate with admin on IM. Even joomla, drupal and other CMS are easily hacked by hackers. It's just about finding the security loopholes in particular version. So irrespective of which CMS you use security issues are going to be there. Wordpress and drupal has less security issues than joomals though. Bugs and security holes in drupal and wordpress are quickly fixed in comparison to joomla.

I think wordpress are getting more attacked these days. So it is better to keep your installation updated. Also never put wp-admin links on front page of the theme as some people do it in some themes. Avoid keeping meta wp information on frontpage. Some wordpress plugins which are not maintained anymore also create security holes and should be removed. I prefer keeping eye on plugins which notify you for the security issues. There are few in the repository so you can download them and use.

I heard that recent norton is less resource hungry. I didn't tested it on mahcine with 512mb ram so i can't come to any conclusion. so those with low ram can tell us if it is in anyway improved from previous antivirus. In any case i'll not risk my system for norton.

And you think xisto doesn't suspend account if you go over the bandwidth limitation ? Justhost has more users than xisto and there is very little downtime reported by them. other sites like zymichost, hostwoot, hostcell and hostcolor can be used for the app testing. these people delete inactive accounts anyway. so you don't have to worry about the junk on web or your account after testing. just use it and leave the account and it will be removed. Not sure if they let you play with mail server and all but first 3 hosts have enough space in them to do that.

I really don't wish to get into themeing unless that pays me in return. Drupal being the most complex platform i really avoid to code for it. I found artisteer more handy in that case. Artisteer designs wordpress, joomla and drupal themes quickly. If not artisteer then you have option like - drupal theme tips or mydrupal blog theme guide.

Gnome is seriously copying apple in all possible way. Look at the recent changes in window management theme. Though there is option to revert back to another windows like display. but what's the point? they are completely copying the platform looks. anyway we hardly argue about that point because KDE=copy of windows and gnome=copy of apple osx. so their new features are likely to be from these platforms most of time.

It's not about favorite or something. It's about getting work done and developers finding any platform easy to develop and sell apps. I think symbian and android are having battle these days. Samsung and LG already sold to android platform. I think even nokia developed one phone under android. Sony is sticking with symbian. So i think it's just matter of apps and users finding it convenient. This will be viewed as operating system fights which is useless. just develop multi-platform apps and reap the rewards. being loyal to any platform or defending it is unproductive. You can limit the idle processes from eating your CPU. Though this issue is addresses in next versions of windows operating system, with old you have to use softwares that can work around this issue. There is one software called process tamer which you can use to limit the process hogger services. If you need any support with that software then feel free to post on that forum. I have no complaints from most active moderators - rvalkass and truefusion and that's why i'll not say anything about them .They are keeping the place clean.
