That's true. At that time opaque used to be active here atleast alternate days or on weekends. You can assume that this forum is slowly dying. Only mycent earners will keep it active for sometime. I remember when there used to be atleast 10 users active on chat and more than 20 or so on forums. Even though mycents system is so flexible new people are not coming here after reading these threads and slow mycent updates. I'm sure many new people after posting 50 posts or so left this place.

My degree is in electronics and communication and that made me aware of certain limitations of machines/programming. I'm not expert in AI either. My major was VLSI/Embedded system from which i'm deviating for last 3 years. But i still have access to people who are in this field(AI) and i hear few limitations from them often. My understanding(from brainstorm sessions with others) so far about current state of processor is that, the limit that our single core processor reached and that forced us to use multi core processors for our current working. If any single machine tries to take over another machine will require large processing power to operate itself and then to communicate or manipulate other machines. Like this you can even come up with limitations of quantum processors (which are still in research phase). The problem with manipulating AI is this - 1. Feedback and Decisions- these machines need to understand human behavior in order to restrict and control them. Which is not possible for AI programmers atleast for next 5 years. Can we see through the spam patterns of people effectively ? without any false positive trigger ? NO. If humans can't be sure of many such behaviors then taking over humans life with some random or ordered set of rules then atleast not possible for next 5 years. 2. Human control - There are plenty of areas where we still hold control and don't automate things. For example many power stations are not connected to internet(atleast no in asia) so there is no way a normal machine can take over power station(just by brute force or something like they showed skynet). 3. Platform - There are variety of OS/Processors/Software manufacturers which use different tools and methods for their internal operation. If one machine wants to take over another using known typical network protocols then that machines has to go through software>OS>processor tree,which is a huge programming work. If any machine programmed enough to take over single platform(instead of multiple) in next 5 years then i could leave this argument.(I'm not talking about virus/hacking stuff, it's about AI automation). You have point there. Okay you may argue something like You and I own kindle and our personal information is recorded by amazon to advertise specific books/apps to us based on our reading or surfing patterns. Similarly wowwee robots can be programmed to connect to internet if there is any wifi spot available around to download vendor instructions and then override the programming etc. But these things are still in theory. But i still don't see it as a threat to humans because we still have some control. Not atleast in next 5 years.

Agree. Looking at the flaws in design you mentioned the only defense intelligent design people have is this - single cell life dropped on this planet to let it evolve on it's own which is the reason behind these flaws. But then their argument of guided evolution or intelligent species monitoring or other religious blabbery will be trashed. On sidenote, what if we monitor the abiogenesis on other planets where there is possibility of life. I mean if we interfere in the process of evolution then results are likely to be different. For example, species adapting to natural environment and artificial environment will give different results.

Think about it if they can come to feedback or make decision on their own. Even if they manage it then it is huge learning curve to take over rest of the machines. This will require manual programming to all machines. It's not so easy and will take more than 50 years to get such computers into working. I see this possibility in very small chance. Computers will remain dumb for next 5-10 years for sure.

Only thing that convinces me towards intelligent design is that we humans are attempting to create single cell in labs. So far we have just managed to replicate it as per the current available news. If we manage to form single cells then it may or may not be possible for us to take life outside this planet. I heard that jupiters satellite titan has some conditions that are suitable for abiogenesis. If we can take advantage of this to form life then maybe panspermia could be in action.

I use baraha keyboard for typing devnagari scripts on screen. It's better than windows language keyboard. It sorts of most of the problem related to the typing of devnagari scripts. Actually there is a difference. image search will continue to load till it get those js scripts loaded. Till then you can't zoom or do other scrolling tasks. Zoomed version is same as thumbnail but unless that js script loads it keeps sucking on the connection. I'm not sure how he went to old version but like any other google hacks this is likely to be possible. if not bing is also there with same set of results.

You can use NVU if it's working on OSX for you. As truefusion said you should rely on text editor. but don't get any text editor. for CSS there is top style editor that works on windows and OSX. for regular file editing you can use notepad++ or ultraedit or Jedit. Jedit and some similar text editors are better if you do a lot of handcoding.

Ubuntu's old shipit CD's had this browser running for windows users. It used to load when CD autoruns on windows. Not sure how it worked under ubuntu or even worked at all. It doesn't look like IE like to me. But then again as you say it's having trouble under linux so i guess there is no point in it.

Micheal other than your spamming- are you sure adsense sends money via paypal ? Google has its own payment processor so why they'll send it via paypal ? @WD - Gooogle sends verification PIN to your address by which they confirm your address and identity. You can check the option to get cheque or express payment to your bank account or even western union money/similar money transfer. If you just want the cheque to be delivered to your address then just select the appropriate optioon, reach the 100$ threshold and wait for PIN to get into your email. And yes bank knows which company is giving you money via cheque. That is because you are asking for cheque which is drawn on your name so your name in bank account and on cheque should match in order to transfer funds. You can't get funds on your brother/sisters name if the name on cheque is yours. This is long disance processing and they are not aware of who is who as per your reasoning so they are performing their steps to transfer funds to your account.

One issue that i had with VLC player is that it tries to remove the subs that we get from anime download. Maybe we should get VLC running with sub support. I don't know how many of you noticed that but i see no subs when i play bleach episodes on VLC player. Perhaps a glitch in VLC ?

I found that by removing social media buttons, clickthrough ratio on my blog is improved. Be it sales page or blog where ads are slapped. You can improve your CTR for ad networks by removing those bookmarking buttons. Think about it you are driving your traffic away from your site in the excuse of bookmarking. Single visitors who likes your site can bookmark it anyway they wish, why drive them away with those buttons and reduce one good click be it adsense or other sales sites. Online sales can be improved by monitoring and testing your business sites.

Avant browser is not mentioned at all. It is small browser and it is without any plugins and other load that most popular browsers carry. So this could be one good choice if anyone is really interested in stripped down version of modern browsers. It is fast as well. I don't know which browser engine it shares, perhaps same like mozilla.

Just my theory so asking in this thread. We have standards set as+5V 0 in our electronics and are working accordingly. Our gravity's constant also have fixed value though gravity changes from place to another place on earth. My question is that what if any civilization with high standards of measurement due to their environment say (500V -1000V, different gravity constant and other higher standard values) is found then chances of their size being larger than us is more (size of people and planet). Even if SETI try it's best to send signal will likely to fall in the low range for them to receive. I'm making pure assumption here but in such case there will always be denial from our side if we wish to communicate or see/ explore such civilization.

Eclipse also has graphical UI library like SWT or something. They don't promote it much other wise i guess it will be much better than the AWT and other java graphical libraries. Working on their own UI is much better from within their IDE. I found netbeans a bit slow for graphical work and too complicated as well.

I'm on low connection and found that even with low connection sometimes page load fast. But that ajax zoom feature is likely to slow down the browser. I mean atleast it did for me. I waited for more than 15 minutes for that javascript effect to load. Anyone else on dial up tried this ?

It's not about old or new age. That time population was less and so the needs as well. And now the population is increasing like virus how can we live without some trade ? money is just one form of it. I think those who advocate free or life without money should spend their time working for others for free and live without food before considering this. Comparing 2010's condition with medieval age is really not worth the brainstorm.

I found some of the captcha's fun to read. Some captchas are slang and dirty word in language other than english. Besides that there are some really funny words that make me laugh for hours are there. Not only google but even recaptcha.net which is now owned by google is showing these types of words. You can check this image. I have collection of similar such funny words from google, VB and other sites. It is really fun with captcha these days.

Transformation packs usually slow down the system. And if system shell gets crashed then there is issues with replacing all the files from backups. This is what i found annoying. windows 7 features are much improved over XP and sooner or later we are going to upgrade to new system anyway. So it is better to upgrade and settle with new OS than keeping up with unsupported one.
