I'm not sure about this "ns1". but with 3 of my domain it is set to "ns.computinghost.com". we've to ask members who registered domains recently to take a look at their xisto domains account to verify this. As usually we don't have to manually modify this and Xisto - Domains also allows us to lock this fields and these are not modifiable from billing site then.

Correction with the nameservers. Domain needs to point towards ns.computinghost.com and ns2.computinghost.com. it might be working with you as only "Xisto - Web Hosting.com". but for others it is not at all working and as per Xisto - Domains panel, it is set to "ns.computinghost.com" and "ns2.computinghost.com" by default.

Yes. there are many css files with new version of SMF. and that makes it painful sometimes, atleast for newbies who learn by breaking things. yeah, if i can't come up with my own theme modification then i'll have to hire someone to code it for me.

30-100$ not bad price. but again i've no idea how the price is arranged. i mean i've simplest design in mind. so got post on that forum in order to get custom quote. yeah, i agree as 1.1.10 being short term release not worth to design theme for 1.x branch now. so it is better to check how SMF 2.0 styles are designed. If you can post here about SMF 2.0 customization(as tutorial) it could help me as well as others as well ( and mycents too! : p). it'll be a good to see a post on SMF 2.0 theme customization. In between i'll come up with Photoshop psd,and i'll pm you. i would love to learn theme customization from you.

Yes, i'll continue to post here as i'm paid customer of xisto for 2 domains and hosting. so before mycednts i was posting here irrespective of that. and when i was inactive in Xisto, MyCents was included in Xisto. so when i was active again on Xisto i found this system and kontera as well. earlier i used to be active here only when had issue with Xisto - Web Hosting i used to post here. but now after introduction of mycents i'm actively posting here. before being paid customer i joined Xisto,only because it was offering free hosting. without free hosting i guess hardly Xisto got these much members. But after introduction of mycents, people here are spamming and posting irrelevant to topic as well as posting 1 liners. this is definitely turning off some people from posting actively here. if such posters remain active here, regular members will only post here for limited topic, will get their mycents and will logoff from community instead of being part of community.

I got to disagree on this statement" Phpbb is much more better than all others and the latest version of Phpbb i.e. Phpbb3 ". Why ? Seriously, look at the learning curve. ask any newbie how easy it is to create forum categories and sub-boards or child boards on phpbb and in any other forum software. You'll get the answer, which one is more easy. IPB/VB have better learning curve but as those are paid softwares, we ignore them and then start comparing with free one's. MyBB, PunBB have cluttered user interface but learning curve is much easier than phpbb. SMF is better among them cause ease of use, active development, mods and features are same as that of phpbb. everything that you can do in phpbb is possible to do in SMF. and ofcourse, SMF is way easy to learn that phpbb. Security updates are also frequently released unlike phpbb. MOD installation of SMF and phpbb gives you idea about how easy smf is in comparison to other forum softwares.

Easily hackable ? that's news for me. can you point to the cases where you find joomla and SMF easily hackable ? 100 hackers here on trap ? what do you mean by that, please explain. and if smf, jommla is easily hackable i wonder what would be your recommendation then ? custom cms ? or any other suggestion ? I'm not getting your replies. @Disturbedone: that's good theme. but will need lot of modification to css in order to make it look like i wanted. especially on navigation, footer side. Do you've any idea how much custom SMF theme could cost ? i mean if i go for custom theme what would be the price. cause the themes i'm looking for are more of simple, accessible and not fancy so price must be cheap right. So in search of design companies that can do this job for me. depending upon price quote i'll decide if it is worth to spend on theme right now or adjust with current theme modification. I've seen few freelancers on SMF official forums. let's see if they're willing to work with me on this. if it works out i'll redesign my forum. in between,i'll update this thread with any new MOD plugin for forums software.

If it is allowing you to select and copy text under acrobat viewer then chances are you can extract text from that document. There are few PDF to word converters available. Some of them are freeware, so you can try them. If you're looking for software that does this job in bulk then go for it. else you've to settle with the manual conversion of single file for conversion to word file. There is online converter that does the job is PDF2WORD. Another one is pdf2wrd. I think for starters these two are enough to get your job done. Other than that if needed you can go for convert pdf to word site. This site also does the job for free and it is online converter. also be wary about privacy terms as your file is uploaded in case of online converters. so your data is likely to be available online.

Yeah, i heard some good things about Joomla as well. and i guess integrating joomla with SMF will be a good option. i'm going to contact SMF & Joomla support forums for this before getting started to check if i get prompt response in case i get stuck in next few steps. I'm not sure if Wordpress/Habari can be integrated and i guess it'll be pain if i added wordpress with SMF cause there are lot of updates for it these days. So going with Joomla,let's see if it works on test machine will try it finally then.My problem with Pretty URL MOD is that i installed it and when i rewrite .hta nothing was working. every URL be it login or threads. all are screwed up. will try asking this on SMF forums soon. but is it necessary to apply this MOD earlier i mean i've got more that 300 posts on forums. so is it too late to apply this MOD ?Yes, for themes i've few mockups in my mind and i've made it on Photoshop as well. Thanks for the info. for feeds, i'm experimenting with twitterfeed, i got 30 followers because of tweeter feed. most of them are not registered on the forum but they do send @ messages and direct messages on twitter regarding forum posts. so it feels good that even if not registered, posts are being read. earlier i used to think all my traffic is fetched by mods. but after response from twitter found that there are few lurkers as well. Instead of zcommunity, what you think about other cms ? i mean joomla or drupal ? which one is better choice for forum usage. My experimental approach won't work always and it could harm forum so taking suggestions wherever possible. BTW, how you worked around MOD "pretty URL's" cause i tried it with two different forum(test), and they're screwing forum instead of changing URL structure. so revert back to the old URL structure. One more question, is there any group or team you know who code SMF themes ?

Just completed steve mconnels code complete book. it is very interesting book and will teach you lot of things related to software engineering. you'll learn som minute details about commenting, loops, testing etc. highly suggested for developers,programmer or hobby programmers. the edition which i referd was 2nd and it was worth my time. next book in my list is :pragmatic programmer. after that i'll go for ayn rand's the fountainhead. let's see how much time i get. : )

I recommend using either Simple machines forum, MyBB, PunBB. PhpBB got huge learning curve, but still many people recommend it and i don't know why. My personal favorite is SMF & PunBB, if you choose SMF then i can help you. and if so SMF can get you started in few minutes. you'll be left to worry about content then : p. so install any one of those easy forum software out there. I'm active in these forums/blogs. not always but whenever i get time atleast i browse through those forums. 1) Stackoverflow: sometimes to read or to answer questions. i login via openID so my alias is my first name. but still it's hard to find out people with their real name. SOV is good site with beginner questions, as well as intermediate questions and community wiki topics. 2) Codesynapse : Sorry for shameless plug, but i own this forum so i'm active over there. ;)3) Daniweb: for some news, blog entries and web development thread are worth to keep tab on.4) CFI : also known as center for inquiry. they've some of the best discussions on topic of theology, science, technology, psychology, law etc. even though i'm not US resident i keep tab ob those forums. lot's of useful info. they even link to episodes of "Point of inquiry" podcasts. these podcasts are worth to listen. if you get time do listen to it. And on point of hurting Xisto, i don't think so. besides if we refrain from linking to other forums from here then i guess there is no problem. : )

@rvalkassSome of the ways you can try. 1) Hanging around forums related to forum, CMS development. Other than professional developer forums, writers/bloggers forum, threads are perfect place to advertise. 2) Freelance jobs blogs, forums and auction sites are good place but you've to lower your prices while bidding at start.3) Advertising using small ad networks would also be beneficial. Adbrite/Adwords/Performancing or OpenX ads could help in this case. There are plenty of other ways. but for that i guess social networking and establishing contacts could help more than advertising.

Thanks for the list of MODS. i found some of the MODs worth to install as per my theme of forum. *Member Specific Permissions *SMF Sitemap *RSS Feed Poster Zcommunity is great suggestion. yeah, even i heard that it will be a separate soon, but there will be integration with SMF and other forums. but i like the features of zcommunity. I tested it on my test forum. and found it worthy to install on my working forum as well. just holded idea to install it cause forum is with less members and activity is also not there. so i guess it'll be too early to start blog with forum. but sooner or later i'll be adding blog so this will come handy. BTW i heard that there is add-on of drupal and joomla for SMF ? is it ? i mean i didn't googled it nor i asked it in official SMF forum. if there is add-on/mod that allows SMF-Joomla then that will be great. In mean time, i'll try and manually edit templates. let's see if i can come up with something. Just a question, off-topic perhaps but how you manage to get traffic for forum ? via signature ? twitter ? or something else ?

At the time of downtime, i posted my reply to SMF 2.0 topic. that reply was with 2 paragraph and when i hit reply i got server issue. and i found Xisto under downtime and not accessible. after that 4-5 hours, Xisto was back. so i guess i lost my reply and MyCents both are into cloud now. same is the case with most of other members i guess. Is MyCents algorithm updated ?

Officiallly wordpress.com doesn't allow you to host ads on your blog. you can install wordpress on your domain and then post ads on that blog. but on wordpress.com hosted blogs it is not possible. but on Google's blogger you can create more than 1, infact there are people running 5-6 blogs on blogger and that allows sticking ad scripts on blogger as well. so win-win situation in you're using blogger.

Some good points for openoffice is that it is compatible with MS office,Star office and some other office suites. Even google and zoho docs allows to save files that can be opened in openoffice. Then let me explain what it is. ulteo is online open office launcher. with this you can create office docs online and then save to any of your online file hosting service or within ulteo servers. you can choose any which you think good. First, if you've google account i.e gmail etc. then you can go to blogger and start a blog. with any name and topic of your choice. write atleast 5-10 posts with worthy content.and i mean worthy cause it'll help you get more traffic over there. so please avoid plagiarism and write original content of atleast 200-400 words. i guess you can do that without any trouble. now that you've blog and content of almost 5-10 pages. you're qualified for kontera cause you've a site. now once you sign up you can use the same code here in this Xisto's revenue sharing program. you just have to copy the publisher id and post it in the revenue sharing settings of Xisto account. Now let's talk about clicks. see when you post here on Xisto. the revenue sharing mod randomly chooses members publisher ID and displays link based ads on the pages. these pages are only visible to the visitors or guests. we registered users are free from those ads. be it any like google or kontera. so if you're writing any post right now,your ID will likely to be in queue for the revenue sharing mods stack. now when any guest clicks on the link then you get paid. now the amount from link based ads is not that high. it is approximately, 0.005-0.2 or 0.5 so there isn;t any much to earn. though why refrain from this cash as well ? some regular members have their cash count upto 19-20$ s far. so it's worth it. Let me try to answer your questions related to kontera. For kontera registrations, you've to give your own sites details. and no spam on your email. Kontera people rarely send email. and only if you allowed them to send program updates. Kontera allows check and papal payments. you've to check in their payment settings page. and payment is i guess net15(that means if your account reaches 100$ then if it is within 15th of month then it's sent). or net30(after reaching 100$ in respective month, processed within 30 days period of respective month). i didn't get your this question. color link here means Kontera is text-link based ad service. so choosing a color will let you highlight external URL links. please rephrase your signature and ad percentage question.

I suggest you to link your bank account to paypal so that your account will be verified. they'll even ask you about credit card and your account will be completely verified. At start you don;t need to register to business account. once your account starts to generate more than 10-15 transactions then i guess it's time to upgrade account. again, i'm not sure at this but you can take advice of others as well on when to switch for business account.

@Nameless_, why you think default SMF theme is bad ? i think it is way better than PhpBB and VB theme. clearly laid out and many people are not even changing it at all. sites like codeblocks forums, smfads are keeping default theme. i mean seriously only IPB themes look professional else most of the themes made for forums are either dark or some fancy girly/anime style themes. so in my opinion SMF default theme is way better than those themes. @Disturbed one: i'm starting thread for Forum MOD suggestions. let's see how many people respond.

IPB ? hmm, it is good cause it is paid,we can ask for better and immediate support cause we paid for it. And their support,themes,learning curve is what makes it worthy paid software. But hey, if we had money at first place we didn't even think about free hosting here or discuss free forum software here, right ? IPB/VB are paid software and get most out of your money. On point of SMF themes, too many css is like OOP approach i guess . lol. but if the current theme of SMF is better than SMF 1.x branch then definitely it'll be in favor of it. As far as community is concerned i do have account over there and i asked few questions but staff over there or other members rarely answers. i guess members and staff are tired of newbie/intermediate questions ?but still atleast some things are not covered in SMF docs. so what's wrong if people ask questions related to MODs, SEO. isn't it ? Coming to AEF,The downside of AEF is right now it is not included in Free-installer of most of the hosting control panels. cpanel/helm have phpbb or SMF, but no major host offers AEF. if any let me know.
