Diskmgmt.msc - Coolest Inbuilt Control ( Xp )
Atomic0 replied to CaptainRon's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Diskmgmt.msc should work when you run it in Windows XP. Are you sure you didn't misspell the name of the disk management console? If the file is missing or corrupted, then there is something wrong with you operating system. See link for a similar topic. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ -
If there is a problem with the motherboard, your best option is to return in to the manufacturer to get a new one or get the existing one repaired. I suppose if their are often problems with the BIOS, you should get a motherboard that has at least DualBIOS so that there is a backup BIOS if one of them fails.

Windows XP Error: Explorer Crashes While Drag & Drop
Atomic0 replied to vicky99's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Try using the System Restore function in Windows XP to restore the operating system to an earlier system checkpoint, before the error started occurring with Windows Explorer.I find that if I drag a file from one window of Windows Explorer to another window of Windows Explorer, the original folder of the drag-drop operation tends to freeze and not respond until the drag-drop operation is completed. If you really can't find a solution to the problem, I suggest you contact Microsoft technical support for technical assistance on your problem with Windows XP, although they may not be able or willing ( ) to help you. -
I actually quite like it because it is easy to get help with Ubuntu if you encounter any problems with it (e.g. installing the necessary drivers to make Ubuntu work in VMware). I also like the general design of the operating system.

Totally Free Domain Names - www.uni.cc www.uni.cc
Atomic0 replied to HellFire121's topic in General Discussion
The "uni.cc" names issued are actually subdomains of the domain name "uni.cc" and are not real domain names. Subdomain names do not incur fees like domain names, so they are issued freely by the domain owner. -
The mechanism behind such as site is that when you complete offers, Domainlagoon receives advertising payment from the sponsoring businesses, with part of the income used to purchase domain names for users. Another similar site to this one is Eyrewards, for which I know someone who has successful claimed a free domain and is a moderator there.

For the challenges, you are supposed to find the password that is preventing you from passing the challenge, not your account password . If you are stuck on any of the challenges, you can choose to get help from other people or search Google for solutions (link not provided). On the issue of the legal side of things, hacking something without permission from the owner is illegal, but HackThisSite.org is legal because the owners have given you permission for you to try and hack through the challenges they have built.

There are various file delete programs that are available on the web that can assist you in delete undeletable files. However, there is a tutorial that was compiled by a MS-MVP that may help: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_undeletable_file.htm A quick Google search would bring up other tutorials on deleting the files. If your system files are corrupted, it is best for you to reformat the hard disk and install the operating system again, since corrupted files usually affect the performance of the system.

2 System32 Dll's Missing :o Help me please
Atomic0 replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
If you are not experienced with computers, I suggest you either repair the Windows XP installation using the original or OEM Windows XP disc, or you can try restoring the computer to an earlier point by using the System Restore functionality. To perform a system restore, start you computer into the Windows XP Safe Mode, logon to your user with Administrator priveleges, and click on System Restore in the start menu (It can be found in the Accessories>System Tools folder). -
A review of Windows XP Service Pack 3 from a computer magazine (APC Magazine) that I read showed that their were no noticeable improvements in performance or stability, because most of the updates that came with Service Pack 3 were already installed as updates via Automatic Updates or Windows Update. Also, it said that some of the new features were already available as a separate download before Service Pack 3. I suppose installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 is not really a 'must' if you have already updated your computer with the latest patches or have installed the new features via separate downloads.

Microsoft bought out Sysinternals a few months ago, so the AutoRuns utility is now available from Microsoft Technet. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It looks like the program has been updated recently. There are also other programs that have similar or addition functionality available. A quick Google search would turn up numerous results.

You can of course run the computer under the minimum specification for Microsoft Windows Vista, but it will be very slow and sluggish experience. I suggest you buy a brand new computer as it will run Window Vista way faster than you current one. Also, I do not believe that upgrading you old computer (i.e. only replacing certain components) is a good idea as they are just too old to be useful. You should use a new computer that meets not only the minimum specifications but the recommended specifications for Windows Vista.

If you want to know what new and improved features are in Windows XP Service Pack 3, I suggest you download this PDF file from the Microsoft Download Center: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download I have not encountered any problems during the installation of Windows XP Service Pack 3 manually except for a minor error message that came up after restarting at the end of the SP3 installation. If you encounter problems with the manual method of installation, I suggest you install the Windows XP Service Pack 3 using Windows Update or Microsoft Update. It is a more easier method and the update program will automatically check for compatibility problems prior to installation. The Windows XP Solution Center has information that may be able to help you in your installation: https://support.microsoft.com/ph/1173

Windows XP Service Pack 3 is now officially available through Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Centre. Link for Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers It is not suggested you download the standalone package unless you are updating multiple computers. I have personally tested the final version of Service Pack 3 on my Windows XP SP2 virtual machine, and I have not encountered any problems yet with it. Interestingly enough, I haven't seen any speed improvements that reviews have been talking about.

Most hardware vendors should have produced Windows Vista compatible drivers by now. However, you should check with the vendor whether Windows Vista drivers are available for that hardware. In regard to the editions of Windows Vista, I suggest you go with Windows Vista Home Premium, which has Media Center included in it. I do not suggest you buy Windows Vista Ultimate unless you want the business features that are available in Windows Vista Ultimate or are after the Ultimate extras, which at the moment isn't worth a mention. Your last choice after that is Windows Vista Business, which contains the business features but lacks features available in the Home editions such as Media Center. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what version of Windows Vista your running as long as your software applications for web and image design work on Windows Vista. If you have the money, you would probably get Windows Vista Ultimate, which after all as all the available features of Windows Vista. However, I must note that some Adobe applications do not work on Windows Vista Home Basic, so you should not buy that edition.

Limewire - Pro (free) how to get limewire pro free
Atomic0 replied to Mark Gleeson's topic in Software
It is not a good idea to download Limewire Pro using Limewire because - You are stealing the program when you are supposed to buy it. You never know if the executable is the original one supplied by the software company or a modified program that may contain viruses and other malware. -
If you have a Gigabyte motherboard, there is a program available on the official Gigabyte website called EasyTune 5 that will make overclocking your computer easier. Link: http://www.gigabyte.com/FileList/NewTech/1125_PX_ET5.htm However, if you don't know what you are doing, I suggest you not to overclock your computer, as if not done properly, it can burn out your CPU, rendering it useless.

I would choose the newer Intel Core 2 Duo over the Intel Core 2 Quad, since the dual-core processor is newer and has a faster bus speed. Also, not many applications and games can used all the processor cores that are available to them. Unless you intend on running virtual machines or processor-intensive applications that support multi-core processors, I suggest to stick with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

How To Bypass Websense? other than using proxy...
Atomic0 replied to Waleed Dar's topic in Computer Networks
You only hope is to either find a proxy site that is not blocked, or upload your own proxy script into your own site/webspace, unless you can find a way to disable the Websense firewall through task manager or another method. -
A Note To All Illegal Windows Xp Owners
Atomic0 replied to prosorcerer's topic in Websites and Web Designing
You can activate Windows XP manually without an internet connection by calling the Microsoft Support on the phone number supplied during activation, and will guide you through the process of manually activating Windows XP. There are only really two ways to activate Windows XP, i.e. through the internet or by phone manually. -
How To Transfer Files From One Computer To Another
Atomic0 replied to sunny152's topic in Computer Networks
If there was a router, hub, or switch, you could setup a share on the computer to shared the files between the two computers, without the need for crossover cables or file transfer USB cables. -
Desktop computers have a higher ratio of power to price. Desktop computers tend to be more powerful than laptop computers at a lower price. Laptops become very expensive the more powerful it is. Desktop are preferable over laptops for gaming because they are less expensive and have more power to run games. However, laptops are more mobile and easier to carry around if you travel a lot.

For the 802.11n wireless card to fully utilise the 802.11n networking standard, you should upgrade to a wireless 802.11n router. If your sister is still using a 802.11g wireless card, you should ensure that the new 802.11n wireless router is backwards compatible with the wireless 802.11g standard, unless you wish to use your old 802.11g router as a wireless access point. I suggest you buy a wireless 802.11n router with two operating frequencies i.e. 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
