I voted a while ago... ...and I saw this! Anyway, I just took a peek down there, and I also found some very weird comments! Click on banners? My God... I mean, who can give you all of these quality services for a few posts? Banner clicking? Xisto should do something to stop these rumors from spreading out. I guess that some rival host companies are doing this. As you can see, users are grading Xisto either as Excellent, or Useless. Very suspicious.

They were probably trying to say that it will be available for download for EVERYBODY!But, the latest releases of Longhorn are very instable, and, therefore, cannot be used for developing software. The new Longhorn release can be used to help the developers adaptation to the new OS, and that's why they said it's "for developers".

It depends... If you want to try some .net programming, you should consider to upgrade to the new Delphi 2005 edition. But, be aware that it requires a bit faster computer than Delphi 7.

Hosting Credit And Inactivity Permission Please read.. thx
bureX replied to sandymc's topic in Web Hosting Support
My phone line supports connections up to 52-56kbps. But, a PCM device, that is used to split a digital phone line into two completely functional phone lines (only with double reduced internet speed) is attached to it. Before my phone company (the only one in the country) came to it's senses, and converted my old analog phone line to a digital one, my connections were limited to 21kbps at night, and 12kbps at day! The connection just "snapped" after a few minutes of connectivity. You have just proved my point. Thanks. Anyway, I am only trying to make the best web host around get even better. Hope you understand. If you only focus on the citizens of the USA or some other developed country, you are making a great mistake. There are people outside these countries that are willing (despite their lower standard of living) to contribute to this community, have fun while they are at it, and still get the best hosting around! -

802.11b connections are limited to 11mbps. But, MY ISP LIMITS THE CONNECTION TO 128KBPS!!! BTW: When I use up all of my bandwidth, I use a dial up connection also, which cannot go faster than 28kbps! Thanks! Didn't notice that... As long as you live in Serbia, you can believe in anything. I don't know anyone with an internet enabled credit card (every bank is giving out Visa Electron and "Dina" cards that cannot be used for internet transactions, if you want an internet enabled card, you have to pay for it), so it is very difficult to buy something like that. And, yes, Paypal does not support Serbia and Montenegro. PS: Everyone freaks out when I try to borrow a credit card from them, they are convinced that someone will find out their credit card number, and spend money like crazy... Weird... I repeat... I live in SERBIA! It is extremely hard to get a job even if you are over 18. If you are under 18, no one takes you seriously, and no one is ready to pay for services done by some "lazy kids". How can I post when my PC blows up? (not literally ) Anyway, I guess you are right, I realized that Admins are actually ALIVE here, so a PM containing an excuse could do the trick. True... I was just trying to encourage people to spread the word about Xisto. -
Cellphone Viruses Coming to a cellphone near you...
bureX replied to sirhenry's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Nothing serious... These viruses spread through a Bluetooth connection, and because Bluetooth uses allot of battery power, most users turn it off when it is not needed. There are a few viruses that spread through phones (usually with a Symbian OS), they turn on Bluetooth on the infected phone, and when there is another Bluetooth user around, it sends him a .sis file (installation program for Symbian). If a user installs that file, it will infect that phone also, spread, and will eventually delete all system files on the phone, which will render it unusable. The only solution for this is to flash the phone (insert new software inside it, kind of like formatting a HDD and installing a new OS).In conclusion, there is nothing to fear about. Just don't accept .sis files over a Bluetooth connection from an unknown phone.BTW: Nokia is preparing an antivirus for phones, and it will become integrated by default in every Nokia Symbian phone from now on. -
That happened to me 3 times, and when I logged in to cPanel, I saw that mySQL was down... Once, mySQL was down for more than an hour, I freaked out because I thought that my databases were deleted .

Easy for you to say...I connect to the internet using a Wireless (802.11b) connection, which is limited to 128kbps, I pay in advance for bandwidth to download.I don't post very much, but I do READ topics, and the fact that Xisto is a big forum, and loaded with ads (which I try to click whenever possible), I use allot of my 100MB bandwidth (which, by the way, costs 130din - 2.5$, that is pretty much where I live).Paid hosting???I can't even find a internet enabled credit card to buy a .net domain for my site at GoDaddy because my VISA Electron card cannot be used to make Internet transactions, and I don't know anyone near by with a VISA Internet card. I borrowed a Master Card - Business card, and I still can't buy my domain name because I don't know what is a "Customer Accounting Code"... Complicated? Yes, very... And because I will probably struggle for another month while trying to make a 10$ transaction, I can't even think about getting paid hosting. (Serbia, yuck!)My two suggestions:- If a user has a link to Xisto on his site, he should get more (1.3 times more, for example) hosting credits when posting.- "AWAY" credits? How about you give each user once a year the possibility to add 10 free hosting credits to his account when he urgently needs to be offline (a blown up PC, for example :-), it happens)?BTW: Get a JOB???GET REAL! I'm not over 18, and it is very difficult, even for a 20-30 year old man, to get a job here...PS: Besides all this, the hosting credits system is a great idea, and I support it... If you want regular hosting, you have to earn it! -
Delphi Tutorial - Change Your Start Button Caption
bureX replied to bureX's topic in General Discussion
Delphi is a programming environment that uses Object Pascal as it's main language. You can get a trial version at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ point? This tutorial shows the power of handles. Using Delphi, you can quickly gain a handle of any window/subwindow and resize it, change it's caption, make it transparent, move it around...Changing the start button caption is just an example of using handles. With handles, you can give your program the ability to react on any system event that you have gained a handle over. For example, if a user presses a key combination ALT+F1, your program will know about it and react the way you want it to. You can also get a device handle, and let your program be notified if a user connects/disconnects an USB device, etc. -
What Is The Meaning Of Life? you tell me the meaning of life
bureX replied to electriic ink's topic in General Discussion
Work hard so your children, and your children's children, and your children's children?s children (etc.) can live a better life, until we all go 1m down under the ground (and hopefully to a better place).BTW: You can actually enjoy your own life while you are at it! -
How to change your start button caption using Delphi! (By the way, the start button will be renamed back to "start" after you restart your computer) Here we go! 1. Create a new project in Delphi 2. Add a Button and an Edit box to your form, place them where you want. 3. Double click the button to enter the code editor so we can type code for our OnClick event. 4. The code for the OnClick event of our button should look like this: procedure TForm1.Button1Click(Sender: TObject);var Handle1,Handle2:hwnd;beginHandle1:=FindWindow('Shell_TrayWnd',nil); //get the handle of the taskbarHandle2:=FindWindowEx(Handle1,0,'Button',nil); //get the handle of the start button from the taskbarSetWindowText(Handle2,PAnsiChar(Edit1.Text)); //set the textSendMessage(Handle2,Messages.WM_MOUSEMOVE,0,0); //used to refresh the caption of the start buttonend;5. Alright, run the program (F9) and enjoy! The finished program should look something like this: https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/ Just type a new caption in the text box and click on the button. Piece of cake!

How Long Does It Take For your site to get on the search list...
bureX replied to darkmeca's topic in Search Engines
Mine got indexed in about 10 days, it's pretty fast, seeing that were talking about Google (8,058,044,651 indexed pages). -
I am using an older version of DAP, because the new one is full of "extra" functions that I really don't need, so, I am sticking to DAP 5.3.0.0.
-
I am using Total Commander 6, FTP may not be Total Commander's main function (file managing is), but it works just fine.

I managed to solve only one side... But it gets so boring eventually!

LOL, LOL and LOL! I can't beleive that really happened!I guess that they went a wee bit over the line there...

I use a 802.11b wireless connection to access the internet, and besides the fact that my speed could be up to >5mbps, my ISP offers only 128kbps or 256kbps (much more expensive).Actually, you pay for megabytes in advance. Example, you pay 130din (a little bit more than 2$) for 100MB that you may use to download stuff from the Internet, but if you want a 256k connection, you must buy 1GB to get it. It's very expensive for us "average" people here. Still, I live in Serbia & Montenegro, so...

WinME is the most unstable Windows version that I have ever experienced! It's a tiny bit different from Win98SE, but it crashes every hour (gives blue screens, freezes up or simply restarts) and is way slower. As soon as I installed it, I was amazed to see such a lack of speed, a few days passed before I replaced it with good old' win98se.Now I am using winXP, of course.

What To Do With 40 Billion $? What to do with 40 billion ?
bureX replied to adriantc's topic in Operating Systems
40 billion $?Well... I'd probably pay some overdue phone bills, buy some furniture and a few exotic islands somewhere in the Mediterranean sea. Although, I would consider donating a few billion $ to charity... -
Freedows Operating System ...a new Win/Lin clone...
bureX replied to michaleq's topic in Operating Systems
Lindows (linspire) isn't free... Am I right? It costs from 49 to 100$!I would never buy this thing, because I can get a much more stable and user friendly system by using Mandrake. (And save some bucks while I'm at it) -
Geocities ads are really a piece of crap! The window on the top-right side really ruins the view of a web site! (and shows up on every html page, instead on just the index.html)I saw an ad on my friends web site that is hosted by geocities.com, and it says that "Yahoo site builder can help you make professional looking websites"... Pffffft... You can upload a great looking website and still it will be ruined by that yucky add.Besides that, low bandwidth, web upload (instead of FTP), no PHP or the lack of any advanced functions makes this free web hosting service look really bad.Anyway... There is no such thing as a great free web host (if you exclude Xisto )

I am really disappointed in dottk... But, there is no such thing as a free lunch...Maybe you should try http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/? But, this service has bugs of it's own (unfortunately). For example, when I try to enter the address of my website, it sometimes opens the dot.co.sr website instead of my own. Or, it simply gives me an "page not found" error. These errors are not frequent, but it still ruins the impression when someone tries to enter my site.Again: "There is not such thing as a free lunch", so, to save some nerves, just buy a .com domain at godaddy.com, and enjoy!

I'm 16 years old. I'll be 17 when the date hits 21st of may. And... yes. Teenagers do have a brain. It is scientifically proven.

Yep... I agree. Watching sex scenes on TV with your parents can be very embarrassing. The only solution that works for me is to simply stayi calm and focused, like nothing happened. Don't look at them, don't move and just stay in the position that you were in during the whole movie. This way, I give my parents notice that "I am not interested in those awful, awful sex scenes on TV".
