What Is An Addiction? Your views on what can be included an addiction
shadowx replied to velma's topic in Health & Fitness
Good question. On the internet an addiction is defined, very well, as: i think that is a perfect and simple description of an addiction. As with smoking they become dependent on it and they cant voluntarily just stop because they will feel terrible and start again, it takes an awful lot more to stop like limitless amounts of determination, will power and im sure there will be some suffering in the form of withdrawal symptoms like headaches, maybe depression for a while. Because of that i wouldnt say that everything we do is an addiction, though i do think im addicted to computers, when my laptop broke i just didnt know what to do with myself, its ridiculous really! I could watch TV but then id get bored of that, id miss being on forums like this, talking to my friends on IM and such like. Not the same kind of addiction as smoking or drugs though id still say its an addiction. And like you food gets me every time. It gives comfort, and im sure it releases endorphins which make me happy, it tastes nice etc... but withdrawal symptoms come in the form of death because youre not eating! So again its different to something like drugs but id still say you can be addicted to food! caffeine is another that i think millions are "addicted" too, like my dad he gets headaches without his coffee! And i cant wake in the mornings without some form of caffeine, im sluggish the whole day through unless i get my "hit" of it in the mornings! You might be able to tell im drinking strong tea which has caffeine in it which is why my last two post have been rather long! and also what i like about that description above is the fact it mentions a psychological dependence, so things like books and talking could possibly become addictive in ways like you "miss" having a book to read and get on a bit of a downer and dont know what to do with yourself and i guess that would be considered an addiction of sorts. Interesting thread, id like to see what others think of this. -
Theres a couple nice websites there, i shall have to check them out next time im cooking! My favourite way of cooking is just to cook whatever i have, im only 17 going on 18 so i will literally eat anything, maybe thats why i find it so easy to cook something i like :lol:The best thing i made from this cook what i feel like thing was chicken pasta, so nice. I had a chicken mayo and sweetcorn baguette in college and it was really nice so i thought why not do the same thing but with pasta and salad and its so nice my mum has me and my brother cook it almost every weekend while shes working! And then i modified that by using fried mushrooms and bacon instead of sweetcorn. I think thats best way for anyone to cook instead of following recipes. I mean some of the recipes are very nice, like the cheesecake one i follow but food is a creation and any creation should come from how you feel and what you want at the time, not what a book says. Like with chicken and pepper and some salad you can dice the chicken fry it in a little oil with some of the pepper and have a chicken salad or something. Simple and quick! Or have the same thing but rice instead of salad, just add sme egg and the cooked chicken to boiled rice and fry the lot for a few minutes to get egg/chicken fried rice. Damn im hungry now... breakfast time!I like the website you mentioned where you list the things you have and the style of food you want and get some ideas, it sounds like a good way to experiment with different ingredients and see what goes and what doesnt and then you can make your own recipes depending on what you liked and what you didnt like. So yes you can follow recipes but use them more as ideas or suggestions not as rules you have to follow. If you like something that isnt in the recipe then try adding a little and see how it comes out, it cant be that bad...cant it?

Your Thoughts On Free Domain Offer! Is this good or bad move?
shadowx replied to MusicOnly's topic in General Discussion
Well i learn something new every day! i never knew of this offer but considering i think i have around 25O/26O credits already... I can see where youre coming from about the spammers but its a massive amount of spamming to get that many credits, still i like your advice And what i usually do is if i see a member with only a few posts to their name and they write a long post about quantum physics or something i take a line or two and search that exact line in google, then maybe another line and if i get what seems like a good result i check it out and see if they copied it, that way i know if it really is copied and can report it. I guess i just like to irritate those who irritate me by spamming! And it keeps the forums a better place for all of the good posters. -
Wow...you need to get out more Still im just as bad! only i dont tell anyone of my thoughts! My answer is: No-one should get any credit for something that isnt even art! its a piece of paper!! damn! But if this example was generalized to any piece of art that actually did deserve the title "art" then it would be person A as they created the "art", the other guy just found it and thus deserves only a minor credit such as "Bought to the public eye by person B"

Humm, seems odd to me. i didnt go for long, though i really want to start again, but ours was something like, white, which was effectively, none as that was the colour of the "belt" which weas tied around the karate...um..."gowns" to hold them together and on you, then i think it went straight to yellow, then maybe orange red brown black or something. That was in the UK so maybe it varies by strictness, EG in ...japan/china where ever karate was started first, they might be very very strict on things unlike in the UK where its almost a hobby.

Well if they truly were knowingly inside Iranian borders then in a way Iran is on the moral high ground, we shouldn't have been there. We would do the same to an Iran navy in our waters. Now if we definitely werent inside their waters then they have no right. To be honest it wouldn't surprise me if Old Blairy is lying again and we were inside their waters and Blair is spinning things to get the English public on his side. Either way neither side is right and the soldiers should be set free no matter what and the dispute should be settled by the leaders of the countries, not the people of the countries.**EDIT Woot go me! 5OOth post! Yay! Now we may continue the debate!

Now with the headers thing in an email does that show the user's ip address or that of the sending server? i always thought it was the server as in htmail it says something like: I might be wrong. I know of two methods if you want their ip from an email, one is to use http://www.self-destructing-email.com/, register there and send the email as per their instructions, when the email is received by them they will get a link when they click it they will see the message as a HTML page and it will log their email and time of reading in an email that you will receive. Its sloppy but it works. Another way is to use your own website, send them an email with the link to your ip logging page and using php code like that above you can log their ip address, you could also make it look like a fake 4O4 error message-like page and then just say "sorry the site must be down" or something then check your logs on that website and youll have it. I trust their ip isnt being used for anything malicious Thats the methods i have used in the past. The most covert is the php page idea. Though les detailed unless you wanted to spend a little longer making a more detailed logging system. With C i guess you could use an ipconfig Command in DOS and then take the output into the C program some how. But i too know nothing about C or Java. Only php! Thing is with C is that it would run on their local machine unless you used some sort of CGI thingy to run it on a web server and if they are behind a router or a similar device you would only get their private ip like 192.168.1.2 and at most their routers ip. The only way to get their internet ip would be to execute the command at the router or to contact the router asking for that info. That could prove rather complicated methinks.

Ah well, corrected i stand..or sit.. I suppose one advantage is if a potential hacker...if you can call them that... sees a php page they know that there is a chance for user input and database and more potential fr an exploit perhaps. I know that static HTML pages are only really vulnerable if someone gains your login details or access to your server whereas anything taking input, like php pages is vulnerable...though seeing a login box or something would obviously show sme server-sides are in use.And it would help in SEO for the reason above but would it also help in that the search engine thinks its looking at HTML pages and better indexes the content? Im probably wrong because ive not really dont any SEO in any detail and i havent much idea how a search engine works other than the basic explanations.

Hi allIve played a few online rpg games and currently im on WOW. What really gets me is those moronic people that are intent on posting threads such as the one in this subforum saying "oh hi were selling WOW gold, go to our website." NO! i will not go to your website! So i was wondering is it possible to report these type threads to be edited or deleted? I wouldnt want to just report them and overload the mods if they dont really have any need to get rid of them. They irritate me greatly by coming here, wasting a username that someone else might want and then posting a ridiculous post advertising their website and their gold. i hope they read this and i hope they reply. But still the question remains, can anything be done abut thse threads or is it best just to not reply to them and let them sink out of view?

Now i right be wrong but it could be possible to use a php script to dynamically draw and then add the images to the page, the images would need to stored on the server as images, but they can be in a protect directory, then the script would use the GD library to open that image and "draw" it so then you would use some more php to include the first "image" php file. Im not sure how you would format it though to get it to the right position. Of course they can still use print screen, though in theory you might be able to use some javascript to detect the print screen key and black the page out or something. As you can tell its a fairly rough idea as ive never used that sort of php before in any real depth and i dont know how, or if, it would work exactly. Anyone who has used the graphics side of things in php might be able to elaborate more. Also perhaps using a separate popup window with no scrollbars and no toolbars would stop them using addons as the add-on would only work on the full browser window where they can access the menus, of course that wont work for folks with JS disabled or who stop codes from editing the attributes of a pop up.

Well your firewall will be one of two, either the windows standard or another one that you or someone else installed. First if its the windows standard. Now im on xp so the instructions might vary but you can probably work it out. Go to START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > SECURITY CENTER Now youll see a few items at the very bottom one of which is the firewall settings, click that and set it to off. Now if thast setting is already set to off it means you have another firewall running, see below. If it was set to on and is now off but youre stilling having issues, restart the downloader and if it still is a problem it could be your router/modem.Now if its another firewall. Again im on xp but these should still work. Usually you'll have a tray icon on the system tray which is where the clock is, mouse over all the icons there till you find one that mentions "firewall" "security" "protected" "norton" or anything firewall sounding. Then right click that icon, nw usually you will see either a "Settings" option or an "enable/disable" type option. For the "settings" option, click that and then usually you'll see "disable" or "security level/settings" click that tab, or if its a button click it to disable or enter the settings, whichever it is. If its the disable button then it should not give a warning saying its going to be/is disabled and it should work after restarting the downloader. Now if it was the security settings then you might have a slider and at one end is like "full" or "paranoid" or something similar and at the other is "off" or "low". If its "off" then of course slide it there and all should be well. If its only "low" then look around that screen for the disable option. I think i covered all i can think of there! Try what i said and let us know what, if anything, happens.

I agree with what everyone has said which is why im not quoting you all!I think the most important point made is that of "black hats" V "white hats" as the media is a big problem for any hacker because the term hacker is associated with those who scam the innocent etc... when in fact id say there are a lot more good hackers than bad, for example the guys that work for the police, or FBI in the states, sort of like digital investigators who snoop oin communications and crack authentication to get to data that can lead to convictions, id love that job but i know there is a lot to learn before you even get looked at as a possible employee. I started with web hacking, like basic forms and such and i gave up after that, i visited a lot of sites to learn and practice legally, if anyone wants i can post the links if i can remember them. Id reccomend that anyone coding websites or programs or anything learns how to hack at a basic level at least so that when coding anything you can protect yourself. This paid off for me when someone tried inserting HTML into a guestbook, if i hadnt tried that myself in practice then i probably wouldnt have added that protection. There was a mini campaign on a few of the sites i was at that consisted of a signature image with the text "white hat hacker" or something like that. And there was an image that represented that fact and the fact that not all are bad.

Can i ask where you got this info?See i would argue that a hacker is not really many of those things. A hacker is however, as said, someone who makes something work beyond, or differently to, how it is supposed to work, for example hacking an OS to allow you to play pirated games or to allow better customizability. It is also someone who uses their skill to over-ride or avoid security systems, for example using SQL injection an creating a backdoor in a web application. but someone who can brute force a password or simply run some-one else code to achieve entry is nothing but a "skript kiddie" IE someone who has no idea why it works and just blindly uses the code or passwords with no skill at all. Of course there are more than one kind of hacker, such as those who test security by "hacking" and those who exploit users by "hacking" I dont believe a hacker is someone who has gained respect in a given field but i may be wrong.

im surprised this works but i believe all of you! if im right its the same code that goes into .htaccess as that which makes the dynamic signatures with the ip's and browser info etc... but i would have thought that as it is treating HTM pages as php ones that it would throw an error when you use raw HTML as a normal php file would as its not the right syntax. Anyone know why it doesnt throw an error? or maybe it does but no-one mentioned it and i havent tried it myself

I think that would be the way to do it. The thing is though is that all three systems will use a different database, and the likelihood is that all three databases will have a slightly different name for things, eg in one system the persons name might be called "username" but in another it might be called "user" so that would need a lot more effort. Also if there are say 4 fields in one database table and if one has 6 then there will be more effort needed! Its definately possible, i dont think i would have the time to do it myself as ive got college exams up and coming, but im sure either someone here can do it or you can find yourself a freelance coder on the internet somewhere, that would cost though. The first thing to do is find out how the databases work, make a list of the database and then the table name and then the fields in that table and that will be the starting point, if youre lucky all three systems will use similar field names. That will get you the login/logout and register parts, the next part will be keeping the user logged in untill they choose to log out, depending on what the variables are called within the code that might be a bigger job to do as it might mean that every ".php" file will need to be edited. But the database structure is the first thing to think about! You can post the structure of the database, not the content, on the forums and someone might be able to help, if you need help on finding ut the structure then just ask! Unfortunately i havent much experience with any kind of modifying so i dont think ill be a lot of help! Though i belive sme guys/girls on these forums have got experience in big modifying jobs so they might be able to help!

But Norton did work for you because while you were using it you wouldnt get anything bad because it wouldnt let you connect to anything! To be honest the only piece of proprietary software on my machine is Windows and the other things that were pre-installed, everything else is open source and/or free, and for security i have Avast Home edition which is anti virus/adware/and the like and it also has a "web shield" and "IM shield" which are basically firewalls along with p2p protection, network shield and on access scanner to find malware as i open a program. And i also use Comodo firewall, before i downloaded that though i was relying on my on access scanning by Avast and its basic firewalls, when i installed it and scanned i think i found one or two minor adware things but since ive had nothing at all and ive done full system scans. Both programs are so easy to use and unike the expensive apps like norton they dont use up massive amounts of system resources so i can have a smooth and safe machine! Perfecto!Id recommend both avast and comodo as replacements for norton!

Hey man, ive been in a similar situation except the girl knew i liked her before we became friends, it never affected our friendship as we are close friends and have been for years. My advice is a little different from whats above, im less of a material person, sure on valentines day and the like i used to give her a card and some flowers and such but i think telling her your feelings is a lot better than giving her gifts. My advice is basically just talk to her, you culd do it by phone, not on IM or by text though! Just talk to her casually and then say something like "you know, i love talking to you, it really makes my day" and then carry it on from there to kind of flatter her a little, tell her truly how you feel, tell her abut her smile making your day and then just finish it off by telling her that you hope it wont make any difference and i wouldnt ask her out right then id let it wait a while so it doesnt seem like you said all of that to "soften her up" as it were. And then see how she reacts, who knows? I know one thing though it wnt affect your friendship in any negative way. Like i said ive been in a similar situation and ive given her roses and love poems and the lot but it has never once affected our relationship...nt untill she got a boyfriend. He wasnt too keen on the idea No, no, no, no, no!!!!! Although on the TV it seems the "cool" guy gets the girl, believe me, it isnt true! Girls like funny and honest guys, they really dnt like guys with big egos and who think theyre "cool". the films, they lie! Just be yourself as already said! My thoughts are that you should never change for anyone but yourself and if this girl likes you as a friend as you are now then she obviously likes your personality just as you are so work with that! Good Luck!

I dont see embedded JS or CSS as a problem, usually i have an external CSS just to make formatting a lot easier and i only have to edit one file. I think the issue for big sites like yahoo is the huge number of pages, imagine a team of ten elite coders it will take them so long to update each and every page of a site like yahoo and thats with ten people on it! Yahoo cant really afford to have much downtime either, the only way would be to edit off-line to completion and then overwrite everything with the new version and then you might have unseen errors etc causing downtime. And the price tag for all that wont be small!im sure yahoo have one or two coders just to maintain it but to do a whole revamp of a website that, for all purposes, works fine for 99% of users probably isnt a thing they're interested in!

Hi guys and gals, Ive been playing WOW for a little while but i dont know how to report a player for abuse, for example if i was scammed what do i do about that? Can i report them to blizzard and if so, how? I dont have any need for reporting anyone as of yet but when the day arrives i dont want to be faffing about asking how to report them or what to do while they are off abusing other people too.

I may be wrong but i assume that by letting the liquid CO2 expand it loses heat and as such becomes a lot colder and get so co,ld it freezes into a solid form, you could do the same thing by using a super cold freezer machine but i think it takes more energy to cool the liquid than it does to allow it to expand so to save money and energy they cool it till its very very cold and then expand it so it gets colder and freezes solid.Like i said i might be wrong but i think im right, as a substance expands it cools and as it is compressed it heats, thats why when pumping up a bike tire the tube gets ht as the air inside is compressed.

Hi thereIm having a nasty issue with accesing the forums when javscript is enabled in my browser, both in IE6 and the latest FF, at the moment JS is off which is why im able to post this.Basically when i access the forums the forums shw for a split secnd and then are replaced by a blank page with a link saying "Click to show/hide ?" with the url f that link being whatever page i wass trying to get, with a hash, eg Xisto.com/forums/# and if i click that link it just repeats with the forums than this blank page.Any ideas what it is? I dont see how it could be my side but i suppose its possible, im about to run a scan just to check anyway. I can see the lite version fine but i cant use that because i cant figure out where to login etc...Any ideas?

Now call me patriotic but i dont care the people of mainly Britain won that war... in fairness the Americans only joined in when things got nasty on their shores they didnt want anythin to do with it before then. But i agree, Winston nor any leader has EVER won ANY war, the people of the country win the way, their passion for their cause, their determination in the face of adversity and their inability to accept any outcome except victory. I dont understand how you can say Hitler won the war for us...and the blitz done a lot more than make some sheep keel over... In fact im sure some people would take offence to that statement for the people they love died so that i could write this very text in English.
-
Well if you take the vars from page one lets call them $var_pg1_one and $var_pg1_two and store them in page 2 via the POST/GET vars one page two: $var_pg1_one = $_POST['pg1_one'];$var_pg2_two = $_POST['pg1_two']; then have the form for that page and have hidden fields which contain the vaues of the above variables like: then on the third page which is the processing page or both forms you just recall all the variables from both pages using the GET/POST method and then store them in the DB Does that make sense? alternatively you can use a select case to change the HTML code of the page and still store the variables as the php page isnt actually a different page.
