I agree, the order of the phoenix was the best book i read in the series, i havent read the half blood prince yet but im buying that today so i can read it on holiday, yay! I really liked the darker side of things in this book and the fact that at one point its effectively an action packed book with magical fights and everything you could want from a book. Unfortunately i havent seen the film yet but i will see it, theres no doubt about that! If you havent read this book then read it, in fact, read them all!

Welcome! I notice you have 17 posts already so i imagine you know most of the rules. Just remember the readme is always above the shoutbox if you ever need to clarify anything!16 isnt that young, id guess your older than a few members. Im only 17 myself, 18 in just over a week WOOHOOO!What computer related things are you into? you mention web design and gfx, those are two things i cant do! I can code websites in php, JS, HTML, CSS but i can never design them! Not so good eh?!as for not being able to post in the internet forums im nt sure whats going on there. Im able to and i didnt know of any credit limits etc.. on those forums, seems odd. I would try again soon, with the amount of members and the amount of (usually brilliant) custom codes on the forums strange things happen sometimes.Well thats it really! its 1am and i should be in bed so on that note i bed thee farewell! Enjoy the forums, and if you want it, enjoy the hosting too!

Well with my sessions i usually use a variable called "logged" which is set to 1 for true when the user logs in. Then with the session i basically log them in again. I use an include file which does the sessions for me, it simply starts the sessions then i check for the 'logged' variable, if its not there then the session is destroyed and i tell the to log in. If it is there i go and check the username and password variables. If they are there then i check them against the DB again and if theyre correct i let them see the page, if not it gets destroyed and they get told to login. Ive attached my script i use for all of my DB driven login systems. It might not be 1OO% great but it works for me. Of course if you use it and something goes wrong i cant be held liable! I recommend making your own script as youll find it easy to customize that way but you can use this one if you want. Like i said, it works for me!Ive never really used ISSET with anything i just check for NULL values of variables and if its null then its not set. That might not be technically true but practically its true enough for my use! session.php

I tried to access the index.html file by going to your url then "/index.html" and it couldnt find this file, i would imagine that you might have put it in the wrong place. remember that all files you want to be seen by visitors need to be in either "WWW" or "public_html", they are both the same folder, one is just a shortcut to the actual folder so both folder links will take you the same place. Put your index.html file in the WWW directory and also while there check for the "index.php" file because it seems you have one in this folder which is where the error is coming from. I got major confused with the WWW and public_html folders. Just remember that all your web pages and folders that you want visitors to see need to be in WWW or public_html. Both lead to the same folder so it doesnt matter whether you click WWW or the other.

EDIT: I think ive cracked it. I wont delete the thread, ive quoted my problem and shall now post my solution for others to learn from! ..this is so stupid... I came accross a website..it told me to use a tool to make my usernames and passwords and encrypt them. I thought this would ake things harder as i would need some sort of key to decrypt them. How wrong i was. The website is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ the bit im referring to is when it mentions using the exe file to create the htpasswd file. If you follow those steps you will get a useable username and password which you can copy and paste into the htpasswd file. So now it all works. I quoted myself so you dont all think im harvesting credits, i dont need them anyway Learn from my mistake if you get stuck like this!

As said you need to list what kind of jobs you do, i have no idea who you are or what you do! you could be a brick layer for all i know! Also type using real English! That way people will see you can be mature enough to complete a job they might have for you, show examples of what you've done before and most of all get known around the forums, ill be honest, if i needed something done i would ask someone i knew more than someone i didnt know.If youre talking about website coding here then try making your own website to advertise yourself and also another to generate ad revenues, if its programming then get your name known by creating a useful tool and getting it on a free download site. Things like that boost your image and that's real important fr things like this. Also ask people you know if they need anything done, maybe get a few cards with your details on them so that family and friends can pass them around. Definitely let people know who you are though, without that i doubt youll get many jobs.Good luck!

Creatting A Playlist Through Php script help needed
shadowx replied to it01y2's topic in Programming
Glad to hear it! I hate being stumped by code that just seems impossible, its usually not though, well unless its my code in which case i might as well just give up! -
Damn, i know this feeling first hand, she hasnt married yet, and she isnt dead yet, thank god, but i missed my chance, i love her so much and i was going to ask her out but i didnt.. then another guy came along and asked her to dance at our prom.. needless to say she got with him and i found out a few weeks later that she had liked me for a long time. Creatting A Playlist Through Php script help needed
shadowx replied to it01y2's topic in Programming
Well i would read the contents of the file into a variable then use strreplace on it to find the atx part and replace it with "" which is nothing, then add the content i wanted and add the atx at the end of it all.make sense? -
What language are you using? i would assume its visual basic, AKA "VB", if so the usual way to do this is with code like this: Dim VariableName As TypeEG:Dim Score As IntegerAnd then to assign a value:Score = "1" That probably isnt completely right but it will give you an idea, i, sure the first part, "Dim.." is fine but as for the secnd im not so sure, i dont use VB much. If its anther language let us know and someone can help I remember doing multimedia at college... it was dreadful...

Well as said for almost any website you need HTML, unless its one of those fancy pure css sites. So to be fair virtually 1OO% of websites use HTML so in that sense HTML is more popular, now if the question is about which language i prefer coding in i would say php because i like solving problems more than displaying info.but in a comparison of sites with html and those using php HTML would win in terms of numbers of websites using it because you dont need t use php to make a website.

Well as said the password should have been emailed to you, if youve tried that password and it didnt work try copying and pasting it, if it still doesnt work drop another line on the forums and get it changed. If you change it yourself it will cost you credits but if there is a genuine error somewhere then im sure the situation can resolved without the need for bloodshed

Free T17 Domains - Do They Support Subdomains?
shadowx replied to shadowx's topic in Web Hosting Support
Thanks, thats good to know, i know that cpanel is easy to use to make sub domains because ive don't it before i just didn't know about the compatibility, but nw im reassured, thanks! i shall be requesting a domain soon methinks! -
Ive never been for an eye test, i probably should but i dont want any visual aids as overtime they actually make your vision worse as your eye muscles relax allowing the visual aid to do the work which means your eyes need more and more help, like a man on crutches for a year would end up with even weaker legs than before. I think nowadays computers and other screens have a lot to do with bad vision, like now im sitting just 2O inches from my screen and ill be looking at it for a very long time, several hours most likely which will most likely leave me with short sighted vision. I guess we all need to get out more and exercise our eyes!

Making Custom Error Pages With Cpanel Not working properly
shadowx replied to reconraiders's topic in Web Hosting Support
EDIT: i realise you use the cpanel tool to set this up, first off double check in cpanel that its all saved correctly, if it is then proceed to the steps below, it could be something that cpanel has done wrong or you might have clicked the wrong button or something. If im right the second line of that error message means you have set up a custom error page but the server cant find it. Make sure its named correctly, usually i think its "4O4.html" and make sure its in the right directory, usually the public_html directory and make sure it has permissions of "read" at the very least. heres a good link that should help: https://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/custom404.shtml just double check youve set it up correctly and if it still doesnt work post back with details like the code used in .HTACCESS and the file location/URL of the custom page. -
In addition to what TypoMage said you can change your cpanel password, if you try to login and fail too many times youll see the cpanel web page and there should be a link to change your password, it will cost you 1O hosting credits though i think.. i might be wrong though.

Hi! i have a question about the free domains available, do they support subdomains, like can i have sub.site.com for free? I would obviously register site.com first and then how would i get the subdomain there? through cpanel maybe?
-
Well for a subdomain to work here you need to first create a folder, this could be the folder "abc" now to make it a true subdomain you need to go into the subdomain manager in cpanel and just add a subdomain like "abc.site.trap17.com" and make it redirect to the folder "site.trap17.com/abc" does that make sense? Im a little confused at what you mean with this... http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ is not a subdomain of blockwars.trap17.com, it is just a folder, the term subdomain means sort of like a website that is part of another website, like youre username "blockwars" is a subdomain of "Xisto.com" Now if you wanted a folder in your website like blockwars.trap17.com/abc then you just create the folder in your FTP program of the cpanel file manager and then to get to it you just type the url i just said but with the folder name after the slash. You dont need to add ".html" or anything else to the end of a folder. As for the cheese question what file type is the page? for example, if its a ".HTML" page then you would need to enter http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ because if you just entered http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ it will look for a folder and it wont be able to find it. I hope this makes sense i was a little confused as to what you were asking!

Spellbinder Update If any of you remember the old topic =P
shadowx replied to Dagoth Nereviar's topic in Computer Gaming
The potential is definitely there!my constructive criticism is that on my resolution, 128OX768 everything is squished and is stretched vertically, this could just be my resolution and probably is. Also i would prefer it if the game ran in windowed mode rather than full screen as this way i could chat etc while playing. And finally the graphics are ok but i find it hard to see things, like there are too few colours or something, it seems very "dotty" if that makes sense and that makes some of the text hard to read. But as i said there is potential there and i think if you could sort out the resolution and such it could really work. -
What Do You Prefer? A Subdomain Or A Url With A Folder Name?
shadowx replied to shadowx's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well if a subdomain damages my SEO and page rank etcetera then surely by using the subdomain to redirect to a folder then i could use SEO on the folder and the subdomain would make it look nice to the user?Would this affect my standing in a search engine? -
Some more interesting news for you! in the last couple of weeks the Uk has experienced lots of rainfall considering the time of year. This rainfall has overwhelmed ur drains and rivers and left many places flooded. Thankfully i live in an area not really affected, near london things arent so bad. But just the other day i was in a friends car and we were worried that the car would be flooded because there was a good two feet, about 2/3rds of a meter, of water in the road as it dipped down, needless to say we didnt go back that way! The funny thing is this happened near the Glastonbury festival when everyone says its going to rain... well this time they underestimated it! it is said that in just 24 hours a whole months worth of rain fell in some parts of the Uk, of course this much water is a disaster for rivers and drainage systems and so they just burts and overflowed. the drains were so full that the pressure of the water actually lifted manhole covers out of their frames and left them tipped up at an angle in the middle of the road with water spurting about a mater straight up, these manhole covers are defiantly not light so the pressure must have been huge! About 3,OOO homes were flooded leaving 3,5OO people to be rescued in just a few days! I heard that Sheffield was effectively closed off due to the flood waters completely filling the city! I understand that effectively all of the roads into and out of the city were either closed by police or flood waters and to top it off a rather large dam is in a critical state although the dangers have subsided due to fire crews pumping the water out, see: BBC NEWS for details about the dam. Residents down stream are being allowed to go home after they were evacuated due to the possibility of the dam bursting flooding thousands of people, if this happened during the night time hours it could have been disastrous! As i understand it 5 people have died despite the biggest rescue efforts in peace time since the world wars. The environment agency has issued a total of 62 flood warnings including 1O severe warnings and the flooding is said to be inevitable. This is bad.. the added problem is more rain to come! Goody!! Its bad enough already! To add to the rest a train carrying 15O passengers was derailed after it hit a landslide, thankfully it doesn't seem to be too bad though im not sure if anyone was inured but the image shows the train in good condition and still the right way up. The causes are said to be the jet stream being abnormally to the south leaving the UK prone to low pressure systems which have hit and lingered for a while, i think the weather is clearing up as the website suggests the next weather system will be moving rather than lingering. The full story is at:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6247870.stm And for flooding tips check http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

So today the 29th and London is targeted again, just under a year from last time. This time it was a carbomb, there is conflicting news coming through, the radio said the device was found by police who saw a car driving erratically and the internet, BBC News, says an ambulance discovered the car thinking there was smoke coming from it which is now suspected to be petrol vapours. The basic setup was lts and lots of petrol with gas canisters and nails for good measure. I suspect it might not have been that effective as a bomb as petrol itself is not that explosive, instead its the vapours that explode, the liquid burns slowly as the vapour comes off and is burned producing flames. The gas however would explode.. So far they havent said who is to blame but i dont think it is the famed Al Qaeda, unfortunately they are a lot more "professional" than what this device seems to be. I think its a spoof organisation that will try to claim its powerful. It was found at half past midnight which is just an hour or so from the time the club it was outside would have kicked out its folks. If that device had gone off at that time i dread to think the amount of people who would've been hurt or killed. i dont think it would be very explosive but with 6O litres of petrol it wouldve been very hot! Later on in the morning about 6:3OAM a suspicious car was checked near park lane as a large area was shut off, but as i understand it this car was not wired up to anything and was innocent. Needless to say it caused disruption with abut 15 major bus routes in London being diverted, 15 isnt a huge number but at rush hour when everyone needs to get to work 15 whole bus services being affected is pretty bad! I think things are getting back to normal now and im glad that generally Londoners recover well from scares like these. I suspect there are many people who are very worried about this, and to them i say dont show your fear. A terrorist's strongest weapon is terror. Be very vigilant, no matter what country you are in but dont panic! Im very proud of the English police for a change, some reports say that one officer disconnected a mobile phone which otherwise could have detonated the car killing many. Either way the police have managed to avert a big big disaster. We have yet to see if there will be more attacks, i think there will as this one was foiled and they're not going to be very happy, but i dnt think it will be for a while now. Though i dont expect the Olympics to be fear free, nor the July 7th anniversary. Remember to stay vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police, together the world can reduce terrorism! EDIT: It appears that there was a second bomb as reported by the telegraph: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Although the BBC did not report the second device. Im not sure which to believe but either way neither device went off thankfully, especially considering this second car was towed to a car pound which would have certainly meant it was led through the busy streets of London! Yikes!

Ah id heard of profiles but had no idea how to set them up, i searched google and fund out how to do that, and it worked fine, just a pain to have to keep changing profiles all the time, then SM posted and from his link i found out abut making short cuts on my desktop so i now have my firefox developer and firefox browser all ready and working. Thanks for the links and all the info! It was extremely useful!

Hi everyone, this is hard to explain..Basically i use firefox for browsing and i like the way ive got it set up, but now im ging into web development more i need the development addons for FF. The problem is i dont want to have millions of addons on my normal FF browser as it gets clogged up in the toolbars etc and would annoy me. So i thought i would get another download of FF and use that and add all the usefull Dev addons i could find, the problem is both FF exe's use the same settings, probably from the same registry entry, if i clear history in one, it gets cleared in the other so if i install addons in one of the browsers they will all be there in the other which defeats the object. So my question is, is it possible to have to firefox EXE's both running with different settings? This way i can have one for development and one for browsing, any ideas? Im not really into editing the registry as i dont trust myself, ive done it before but i dont like doing it.
