well it works fine for me, i can see the holding page there, the title being "Welcome to your hosting Account" To get your pages there you need to first upload them, if you need help with that then just ask and you'll get a hand! I can also access cpanel, of course i cant login to yours but to access it you need to go to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and login there with your hosting username/password. From there you can manage your site and such. upload a web page/file with the filename "index" and whatever extension, eg HTML if its a HTML file. You should then see that page by going to your website.

Recovering Lost Files After Restore Point My compter is screwed up.
shadowx replied to arza1's topic in Hardware Workshop
You have had the need methinks but because you never had anti-virus to tell you that you have a virus. If you get everything back definitely get yourself anti-virus and a firewall. I recommend Avast and Comodo, google them and get something to protect yourself! -
I agree with Tetraca that some open software is released early but then others are released on public betas etc... specifically for testing by a massive audience, this helps fix most of the original bugs and when its released as a full distribution the other bugs are soon found. I think the main thing is that with open source the user is more valued in that our comments and feedback is better used to improve the software than with closed source software. And i also agree that the GIMP lacks user-friendliness but at the end of the day its FREE! Id rather have a small inconvenience than a massive price tag any day! Though admittedly i dont do much GFX work.

If only the rest of the world was that way! It would make website creation a whole lot easier! I think i can leave out the declaration then but it still doesnt display properly in IE, in FF it stretches perfectly but i tried in IE and no luck still.. i guess i shall have to trawl the net for some sort of fix for that. Really damn annoying!

It is very long, that is true! Its advised to read it because in most cases if a new user asks a question thats answered in the readme the general response is a link to the readme, just understand the main points of the forum and such and if you have a question related to credits or something then check the readme first and then ask on the forums. Other than that have a great time here, ive been here for a good while and its the only website i regularly visit really, the forum is great and so are the people and of curse the hosting!Just remember to post quality and not quantity to get yourself the credits for hosting, and remember to have a glance around to make sure your topic doesnt already exist, its a pain when you write a great topic then realise someone else beat you to it!

I think open source is better, the only closed source software i have is my OS which is win xp and the bundled programs that come with it. I dont think I would hardly ever actually buy software, not just because im tight but because i feel closed surce software comes at such a high price most of the time for what is generally beaten by a free alternative. I think the two main reasons for people buying or using closed software are that firstly it usually comes from a big named company that people recognise and therefore feel safe with and secondly it usually, as you said, comes with a guarantee. I also tend to think open source is safer and less buggy because as you said thousands, if not millions of programmers can review the code and edit it for themselves and also send the edits in to the maker so that they can be included in updates etc... Ive heard of a few cases where this has happened with software like Firefox where the bug was found by a user and fixed. I also think that bugs are found quicker and fixed better and quicker with open source. the counter argument is that with the source available to all hackers and such can either find weaknesses in the software and not tell anyone or could in fact edit the software and include malicious code and then redistribute it to others through their website and such. the thing is there are more ethical programmers than unethicals and if a weakness was found by an unethical hacker im sure it will soon be fund and fixed by an ethical programmer. And at the end of the day we all know free software works better than bought software, thats been my experience anyway! None of my free software ive downloaded has ever done me wrong or underperformed against a closed source alternative. This could and should be an interesting topic methinks!EDIT: it seems osknockout beat me to the mark! here are my answers to the proposed questions...1) Wouldn't this go better in the debate/ideas section? Yes.2) What do you think of non-commercial licenses or corporate products based on open-source code?Brilliant in concept but sometimes they under perform when it comes to restrictions on the features. I like the idea of student licences for free because most of the time a student creates something in a closed piece of software at college and then cant use an open product to finish it, so i think thats a brilliant idea, and i do actually use a product under a non-commercial licence and i think its a brilliant thing, second best to fully open source though 3) What happens to the millions of open source projects that get no one in them? Take a look at sourceforge and see how many projects don't even have a file out. They die and no-one really notices in my opinion! if it doesnt have a file then IMHO it shouldnt bother me, and usually doesnt. Its a shame because ive seen some very good projects on sites like that but with not even a demo out.

Im not in on the "make money sites" scene s ive never heard of this website but are you sure youre not just being conned? It could be a fake site or something just ripping you off, i would talk to the admins at that site first as they know more.

I think what you describe is called lucid dreaming, it is possible, thats for sure, its not magic its just controlling your thoughts. One method you can try is to do something everyday as a sort of habit, the example i read was to check for your watch on the wrong arm or something, if you get into a habit then you might start doing it in your dreams and if you see your watch but its on the wrong arm it will eventually signal to you that youre dreaming. Thats the plan anyway. Ive never done it on purpose successfully but ive done it out of chance a couple of times, i woke up soon after though but it is possible, if you want to try it then google "Lucid Dreaming techniques" and such like

Humm.. will remove the doc type declaration have any negative effects to my site? ive never use a doc type before i just read it can help browser compatibility by letting them know what standards to use.EDIT ive removed the doc type declaration on my local copy and it works fine in FF but as usual IE its giving me problems, it still doesnt let the DIV fill the space which is really annoying!

i dont know! i did a little test with a div with just one word inside it and nothing else and the CSS height worked fine, yet when i tried this on my actual page it had no effect so im thinking it depends on what the content of the DIV is... its really frustrating!I had a look at the topic linked above but that didnt help either.

Hi all, this is a two part post, firstly how do i get my DIV to go the full length of my page without specifying its height in pixels? My first thought is by using a percentage height but it seems to have no effect on the DIV. I ask because of this page http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ that i created. Now im using 128Ox8OO res at the moment and with my current use of BR tags i can extend the div down to the bottom of the page, only in firefox its a few pixels too short and in IE its a few too long so i get scrolling in IE and a grey gap in FF, not good for a website creation website eh?! Also its silly to use BR tags to resize the DIV as resolutions are different etc.. so id rather have a way of resizing it to the page size, any ideas? Ive tried CSS height values of 1OO% and HTML values in the DIV tag of 1OO%, i also tried using a table instead of a div but still couldnt get it to use percentage values to resize. Is this even possible? im sure it must be. If you want to see the problem/code just go to the above link, you can also view the CSS at the same directory, its name "main.css" I have no problems with anyone taking a look! Also while youre there comments on that page would be useful. the goal is to advertise website/script creation and customization, obviously the text there is just example text but i want to know what people think of the layout and colours used as im a good coder im just nt so good at the actual design work, making it look good! thanks!

It seems good to me, i have a comment though, I think you should check the username and password input doesnt contain malicious code, you could use strip_tags or make your own cleaning script, its not a massive concern as theres no database involved but i think it would be possible for an adept coder to inject code by entering it in the username/password box on the form. Other than this it seems fine to me, im not saying its 1OO% safe, nothing really is but i would feel happy about using it on my site.

Poison Ivy! any home remedies to get rid of poison ivy? I need help
shadowx replied to arza1's topic in Health & Fitness
If you want to dry the skin then toothpaste works ive heard. they say it dries up acne but i dunno about large areas of skin. We dont have poison Ivy in the uk i dont think, a tleast ive never seen it. But i would suggest washing with soap and water as it cleans and soap also dries the skin a little, you can always use talc powder. As for treatments i mentioned antihistamines in the shoutbox and ive found this website http://www3.nicholaspiramal.com/ it lists a few antihistamines i dont know if theyre brand names available where you are but the pharmacist can advise very well usually. I just read on the net that ice packs can help as they numb the area and such so give that a bash, and try oatmeal baths too, they help for chickenpox which is also really itchy. -
My first piece of advice is this, read this topic http://forums.xisto.com/topic/50191-i-regretted-i-like-himbut-i-didnt-have-the-courage/ and think how you would feel if that was the case with you. Now assuming youve read that topic just think how that would feel, it happened to me, they didnt get married but it was a serious relationship and now i will never be with the girl of my dreams because i was shy. Trust me you dont want that to happen! youve told her how you feel, thats a brilliant first step, many people cant even do that so feel proud of yourself. The next step is t ask her how she feels or ask her on a date or something. You could get her friends to find out how she feels about you but i think that it sounds better coming from you. If you have to write it down in a sort of letter thats fine, just tell her that you like/love her and that you would like to get together and you want to know how she feels about you. if she tells you she doesnt like you in that way then try to be her friend, thats what i said and she turned out to be the best friend i could want. if t turns out she does like you in that way then ask her on a date, if she likes you then shes unlikely to say no. If she does say no then ask her another time, just say something like "Did you fancy seeing FILMNAME at the weekend? Could be a laugh" nice and casual and take it from there. Dont do nothing because you will regret it everyday of your life! Atleast if you try and it doesnt work out how you want you can say that you did your best.

I think it would be a great idea, as good as the shoutbox is its a bit impractical for really chatting with other members, the only thing is it might need extra moderation

if you need a "guide" to uploading then firstly download an FTP client, such as Smart FTP from: https://www.smartftp.com/ Get the free version! Now ill assume youre hosted on the web. If not get yourself hosted. You can do this here at these forums by collecting credits, see the README file for that, just above the shoutbox. Or you can go to *edit* qupis.com *edit* and get free hosting with the link and thats instant. Of course you can look around for a webhost with php support. Once registered get your FTP details. These are usually on your "my account" type page and you need your FTP username and FTP password as well as your FTP address and port. now just enter these details in the relevant boxes in the smart ftp program and click the connect program. Navigate to the "www" or "public_html" folder and upload the files. Then go to your site and view them. That should do it. As Jlhaslip said, xampp is brilliant software if you want to view php files on your own computer but remember that they wont be actually on the internet, only you will be able to see them, but if you want to test-view php files then its a good thing to get.

Do I Need To Be Active In The Forums? [resolved]
shadowx replied to Codemaster Snake's topic in Web Hosting Support
To get hosted in the first place you need either 1O or 3O credits, after that you need one credit per day, so the minimum is one credit, after that your site get suspended untill you get more credits at which point it is viewable again. Nothing will be deleted in this period. If your credits reach a big negative number the website will be deleted. but so long as you have 3 or 4 credits then you can be fairly sure that, even if you cant get online for a few days, your website's presence is safe. -
I use the $link variable in all my DB functions almost because the app i use to write my code prompts me to use it and its never done any harm. As for defining those variables, yes i would suggest adding code like that to login.php page so that then the sessions page can call out their username and password as they entered it and check it with the DB records to make sure that no-one has been fiddling with the sessions to get through security. You might need to change a line or two in the sessions file since i had an extra variable in my login page that isnt the sessions.php file.

In an attempt to educate people on proxy avoidance i post the following, however! I dont recommend trying it as it could lose you your job or result in other punishments as it were. So... there are three ways i know of, first is the easiest but normally blocked. There are many sites that have what you described as a browser, just google "proxy service" or similar and you will see a list of sites, also "anonymous surfing" would do the trick. Now on these sites you just enter the URL you wanna see and there it is. However normally whatever is blocking the game sites blocks these sites also. another method is to user your own internet browser. Generally using firefox will bypass most blocks in place as they are tuned for IE. the problems here are easy detection by the admins and its more serious as you are bringing in software to bypass security and this can be seen as very serious in some places.the last method i know of is to add a proxy to whatever browser they have there. This is done by searching on google for a list of web proxy services ip addresses. you then enter the ip address of choice into the proxy server setting of the browser. This isnt always possible as the admins can bock you from doing this.As i said i dont recommend any of these steps its just for education. If you do try any or all of these then i accept no responsibility for anything that happens.

Well technically they did tell you this was going to happen, though i agree that it doesnt state that by sending an sms you jin the service but im sure in their ToS and such it does say this. I would still agree its a scam but i think the best thing you can do is spread the bad word about the website, if their visitors go down then they will have to do smething, and with any luck they will withdraw!

Well in my login script the basic flow is this: enter user/pass -> validate them against the DB -> fill session variables with those from DB -> redirect out and the code i usually use to fill the session variables is just: $_SESSION['logged'] = "1";$_SESSION['username'] = $username;$_SESSION['password'] = $password; Of course you need to start the session first with session_start(); If youre not sure about using sessions try this link http://www.tizag.com/phpT/phpsessions.php Its where i learned my stuff from.
