  1. Whoops my finger slipped...:DThe image appears to have returned...Im fighting censorship based on the minority here for a valid reason!
  2. Or try downloading a linux live CD, google "Ubuntu" download the ISO file, burn it to a CD and boot with that in the CD drive of the computer. Chose "Try ubuntu without making changes" and when it is booted click at the top System > Administration > Disk utilityClick the first disk in the list on the left, probably "80gb hard disk" or similar. then in the middle there should be "Format" click that. I havent gone any further than that on my machine since it's a working machine but i would guess it will ask you what to format or partition. If so you will likely see a bar with coloured boxes. Click the first of those partitions then click Delete, if there is a delete option. If not click Format. IF there is a delete option then delete all the partitions. Once the box is empty click it and there should be a "new" or "new partition" option. IF so click that and it will ask for a type. Choose NTFS (which probably wont be there) or FAT32. Set the maximum size and click OK or whatever button is there.Hopefully that will create one large partition that is empty and that windows can see. Now reboot, put the XP disk in and hopefully it will format nicely.NOTE: This WILL DELETE everything and might screw the disk. I personally would feel safe doing this and it is 99.9% safe but i accept no liability!
  3. Im not a mod or admin but here goes...If the user posts spam and gets their posts deleted the MyCents they earn are also deleted. It isnt real money, it is merely a number in a database so they just get deleted. They dont go anywhere, they just go away.If that user subsequently gets banned from the forums then i believe their hosting is still valid however since they are no longer able to earn Cents to pay for it in the future they will have to use real money.
  4. then frankly you need to toughen up...I dont see the point of the gallery thing to be honest but if an image like that scares you then the internet is not the place for you to be im afraid.
  5. It's certainly a long way away from complete but it is an interesting idea and if it turns out to be true, even on a small scale it will fundamentally change everything we thought we knew about the universe and might also mean that FTL travel is, was, or will be, possible somewhere and that really would open up a can of worms!
  6. Post reported. Since there are already replies here im jumping in...Hello, I am a pagan, I practise witchcraft, how are you? (The above is true....)Now we have that out of the way, why should i join your site? Why is that background animated *projectile vomits* just why?!?!Plus, surely my life would be more complete, more fulfilling if i follow my OWN path rather than that of your imaginary god? Surely trying to get me to follow YOUR path is in fact restricting my life, making it a little bit worse, smaller if you like when allowing me to follow my own path, wherever that leads would be a greater use of your god's gift to me? After all, what use is it to give someone a gift and then tell them they may only use in one specific way? Here you are child, here is a remote controlled car. You may only use it in your front room of your house. You may not turn left, only right. You may not go full speed, only half speed and you may only use it on tuesday and thursday. It is stupidity. If god gave me the gift of life then he would want me to live it to the full. Live how I, *I* want, and not how you and your little friends tell me to live. No. For you and your little friends to tell me how to live my life would be like me giving the child the RC car and then you enforcing silly little rules, threatening him with death and hell if he goes too fast, turns left etc...Plus, who gave you and your friends the right to tell ME how to live my life? Did god touch you with a golden finger and say "there ya go, no go and tell everyone how to live" no. Too many christians think he did when in truth no christian has ever been given that right by their god. Nuff said.
  7. It is an orange, and why is it bad?It is a little weird but there is no reason for it to be removed.
  8. It's only a theory of course based on observations which arent repeatable in a lab but here is the article:https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn19429-laws-of-physics-may-change-across-the-universe
  9. Unless of course the laws of physics change within time/space ;)Some theories suggest this is the case and they claim to have some supporting evidence, I believe this was referenced on the newscientist.com site but im not 100% on where i read it....
  10. Bang on! Recaptcha is connected to a system, or database, which reads real books and other printed or written text into a computer. If the computer's OCR (Optical character recognition) software cant work out what a word is it flags it as unreadable and scans the word in. Recaptcha then takes this illegible scribble of a word, sits it next to a word it knows is correct and shows you both words (which is why there are two words). It then works like this: Captcha: SCRIBBLE octopus Answer: adfasdflkjs octopus Recaptcha knows the word "octopus" and it has read it and knows the correct answer to that part. The first SCRIBBLE is something it cant work out. So if you type "octopus" as the second word recaptcha assumes you guessed the first word correctly. Remember recaptcha doesnt have a clue what the correct answer is for that first word, it will believe you no matter what you type. IT knows you got the second word correct so it just believes you for the first scribble. This is the case for sub/super script and odd punctuation or writing you cant read. Recaptcha cant read it either. Type something close and then get the other word correct and it will let you through. Get the known word incorrect and it throws you out. This isnt the case 100% of the time, i suspect sometimes it can read part of the word but not all of it in which case you need to get pretty close but if you cant be bothered to read scribbles just type sdlfkjsdlfkhsldkfhjlsdkfh and then get the other word correct and you'll get through. However, get it wrong the first time and it will show you a captcha where it knows BOTH words (it can also show two known words straight up, it doesnt always follow the known/unknown pattern) Simples.
  11. I would tend to agree there ^^ Try just "localhost" Secondly with the "Or die" statement replace your custom error message with:or die(mysql_error());(i think that's right it's been a while but a syntax highlighted editor will flag it up.)That way you will get the MYSQL server error message out. Might help, might not but i always use it in the testing/development phase (ideally change it back to a custom, non-informative error message for live release)
  12. Yeah, a gravity thingamabob just doesnt exist. I could say we could travel faster than light using an FTL-Transbobulator. Sure, we could. Except that device doesnt exist. And if you travel FTL (faster than light) you get shredded. Space is not empty. It is full of single atoms and other subatomic particles. Travel FTL, perhaps 3C (C being speed of light, hence 3 times the speed of light) and you hit so damn many of those atoms and particles a second that you get turned into Swiss cheese and dissolve into dust.If you want to go FTL you need to exit time/space completely and re-appear either by wormhole or extra dimensional travel (both pretty much the same really....) or as hollywood calls it "Teleportation".
  13. What operating system are we talking about here? Google "YOUR OS change language" and follow those steps. English is installed by default in all windows machines so you wont need to install any additional language packs simply switch to the english one. If the keyboard has french letters printed on it then you will need to learn to touch-type! Other than that just change the keyboard layout to english UK/US
  14. *sigh* PS3 == 360 HQ gaming on the PS3? Yup, but crappy online connection quality.Free online with PS3? Yup but it isnt as popular, it is nowhere near as advanced or feature filled and connections are usually poor.Believe me... i am no microsoft fanboy, i hate microsoft. Right now i am using linux and firefox connected to a unix based network using a unix based firewall/proxy. But the xbox is not as bad as you have said. The red ring of death is not a problem since the new version of the 360 came out. The chip has been replaced since the original problem was identified. Disc scratching is just an urban myth. Unless you knock the machine over while the disc is spinning the disc will be fine. And if you topple the ps3 while the disc is in usre it will do the same as the xbox. Bluray *shrugs* Known flaws... N/A so long as port forwarding is enabled in your router and you dont get a crappy second hand one it will be fine. Software updates are mandatory, you cant connect to the live network without applying them hence modding the system is not really possible. Microsoft actively pursue and track modded chips etc... Hacking games is sometimes possible but this is done using hex editors and transfer cables and is a security flaw within the game and not the system. Most major titles now come out either first on xbox or at the same time as the ps3.All xbox's are created equal. All the latest ones have HDMI and ethernet. Some come with built in wireless or you can buy a wireless card if you need to. Memory is sold separately usually, a 250gb hard drive is ?70 in the UK.
  15. This website has no affiliation with Arsenal FC nor is it a location known to be a good place to advertise your interest in the hopes of being picked up. Best advice is to contact the club directly.
  16. First of all what the hell has happened to the old trap i used to know and love? I stopped being active because the site just went nasty and i come back and damn guys... Opaque made some damn bad decisions with this place. Anyway... Im here out of desperation... firstly let me say im a network techie so hopefully i have covered the basics already... We have a wireless network setup here at work through the whole building based on dumb access points. In the office (here) it is 100% usually but on this laptop i cant even see our network. It runs with WPA encryption, i am unsure of the channel but i've never had it this troublesome before. The laptop is running SP3 and using the default windows xp wireless utility. I have three other laptops here on my desk, all three of them pick up the wireless and connect. I can have a working machine sitting next to this one and this one wont even see the network while the other connects. It isnt that i cant connect or that i get connection errors, the network isnt even in the list of networks. The only ones showing up are nearby residential networks (which all the laptops usually pick up from this office) so i know the card is good. I have one in the list now that is WPA so i know the card is capable of recognising WPA networks.Any ideas?!Windows firewall is off, AV running is sophos, No other security software installed. Card is obviously on and WZC is running it, IP settings are auto (Even though it wont have any effect at the moment), i *KNOW* the wireless network is there. Windows is up to date with win update and i have admin access.
  17. LL is good so far. I did a fresh install with a separate home partition instead of upgrading from 9.10, i was having issues and wanted to clean it all out.The splash screens and default theme is so much nicer looking than 9.X, fresher and a little like Mac. Boot up time is much better and shutdown time is on the order of under 5 seconds on a modest 1gb 1.something dual core laptop.the app downloader and update manager are pretty much the same and that's all ive tried out so far.No issues whatsoever but i like it!
  18. I agree that php and web 2.0 can be overdonw but your example of using includes instead of frames, for example, is a perfectly good one. When i make a site, even a small one i almost always use a system like index.php?nodule=something so my index.php can setup the headers, footers, sidebars etc... then just an include safely controlled, to fetch the content of the page in question. That way my site is always consistent and the content is exactly where i need it when i need it. When i need to make a new page all i need to do is write a text document with relevant CSS classes and BR tags and upload it. Usually my links are also contained within a text file formatted with A tags and CSS and they too are dynamically included. That way once my file is uploaded i write *one* link into my links file and that is it. If i have 3 pages or 300 it doesnt matter. It is so easy to update.Sometimes i use a SWITCH statement to check the filename is acceptable, other times i restrict it to a certain directory.
  19. I work in a school and we have a custom coded email system. I believe it runs from an Apache server running some variation of linux with a custom coded front end intranet. I have only been here a year so i'm not 100% on the details but we would never even think of using gmail or another web based service. We want complete control and understanding. As it stands if something isnt right with out intranet we ring the guy who coded it (and used to work here) and within a day we can have it either fixed or even upgraded. We have complete control over redirects, aliases, usernames, passwords, restrictions, filtering, access levels etc... and you just cant get that outside.Google docs however is something i would love to see us use more in the sense that it offers an unrivalled way to work on the go. Especially for school trips and senior staff conferences across other schools. Again we have our own system for remote access to documents but as of yet remote access to software is a different story. It is easy to download open office which is compatible assuming the student saves the document correctly but its not a perfect solution for kids who dont understand how to safely download and install stuff.Google has its place but the corporate environment isnt it... yet...
  20. The easiest way to learn binary is to write a line of numbers multiplied by two each time, and then write binary underneath. So if i wanted to make 17 it would work thus:0 1 2 4 8 16 32 64 ....0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0So i have one "1" and one "16" 1+16 = 723 is0 1 2 4 8 16 32 64 ....0 1 1 1 0 1 0 01+2+4+16 = 23And so on...
  21. I think PHP is getting bullied a bit here as being insecure... PHP is like the engine of your car. Sure you can build a car without an engine but it doesnt do anything! It just rusts.Put the engine in and you can take it places. The disadvantage is so can someone else, so then they invented the key ignition, anti-hotwring etc.... it isnt difficult to make a moderately secure website. It might not stand up to a military level attack but it will damn sure stop chancers. I just dont see any reason *not* to use PHP (ASP is just nasty dirty Microsoft rubbish!)
  22. Incorrect. Everyone uses the computer to crunch numbers. It is the only thing that you *can* do with a computer. A computer runs on binary, a series of 1s and 0s, for example the binary for 5 is 10100000 (the 0s at the end are largeley irrelevant) a compute simply performs a series of steps including AND, OR etc... which are essentially calculations and produces an output string of 1010010110101010101 etc... which is further calculated, or computer into HEX, DEC, OCT etc,... depending what the desired output should be formatted as. So nope, the name is still accurate!
  23. Im just glad you havent mentioned frontpage... IMHO WYSIWYG has no place at all on the web!
  24. Oh god please dont suggest WYSIWYG!!! They are *awful* it's like building a house out of lego, they look amazing, if indeed you can make the program do as you tell it, but they just dont work!!They are massively graphically intense on bandwidth, they often use pixel widths as standard thereby making your site look ridiculous in other screen sizes, you have to pay inordinate amounts of money for second rate software and the free ones are awful too. They are horrible little programs that just dumb everything down.A webmaster should know what a webserver is, what it does, how it does that. They should know HTML and CSS at the very least. They should never need a WYSIWYG editor (well, i have used them to get precise measurements) and should be able to bring up a website with nothing but hosting space, a domain name, notepad and the GIMP.Otherwise you get second rate webmasters and you ask them a question and they just dont know the answer! Something goes wrong and then they have to pay someone else to fix it! That's assuming they can get the thing online in the first place of course...Everyone starts somewhere and for me notepad was the first step!
  25. The website intro is terrible.Just a horrible flash intro that is a waste of my time to watch, not to mention that flash intro pages are a terrible design aspect, horrible for SEO (and indeed your site doesnt even show up in google even if i actually search for the URL) and it looks like a scam.It may not be a scam, but you know when you see a greasy haired slimeball on TV telling you about his amazing product that everyone must have, its better than the rest, amazing and yours for only $1bn per month, usually with a phone number and "limited time offer" flashing somewhere on screen. That's what your site reminds me of. Not to mention that i dont want to click a car to start an engine. I want facts, presented via text and HTML. Not flash. Im just glad you have the little bar on the bottom so users can skip to the end.I fear the only person profiting from this website is you.
