  1. Firstly confirm that the link is indeed accurate, the 404 page not found error is the one that means "This page/item doesnt exist" is this the error you receive?Try using a different browser and let us know what you see with firefox or something.
  2. There is an addon in firefox (Omnibar) which gives you a Chrome-like address bar (full width) and hides the search box. If i type a url like kdjfhakjfhkajfh.abc it will call up the domain, if i type "dogs" i will get a google results page for dogs. There is nothing that Chrome can do that FF cant, except sandboxing....
  3. A commercially support version of linux, such as those releasef by Novell are industry standard almost in network architecture. We have one windows server here and that is purely here to support the information management software we used which is windows based with a windows backend. There is no reason on earth to choose a windows backend for a server environment. It has no advantages whatsoever.Security: Microsoft has consistently shown they are incapable of proper security. Nuff said. There are no viruses for linux, the permissions system means that when correctly implemented the only possibly way for the system to be compromised is through insecure passwords. Controllability: The mere fact that windows is so difficult to configure (deeply, not changing a background image) makes it useless. With linux you can change EVERYTHING, absolutely EVERYTHING so easily. Sure it isnt easy to get the changes to work correctly first time but with knowledge and experience a good technician can get linux to jump through hoops and courtesy. That means that a system can be hacked together (note i say "hacked" to mean put together in a way which is a bodge job or more forceful than just installing a program) to do literally anything in the network. You can hack up a proxy, dhcp, dns, auth servers, storage servers, backup servers, firewalls, everything using linux, there is no need to use windows at all.Stability: How often does linux crash? I have never had a full system crash on me. Blue screens? Never. The one time i have had an unusable system was when i hacked apart my X11 config file (im not sure if you know nix but the X server is the graphical interface, broken config file = no display on screen) however linux detected that it was broken and offered me a basic GUI and easy options to edit the config file and remove my changes manually. Reboot, done. On windows... it would take hours, system resets, copying files, resetting drivers, its just a mess.Speed: Linux is always faster than windows when they are configured to a similar standard (Ie effects, caching, indexing etc...) The fact that linux seems to never leak memory either from the OS or the applications means that over time it doesnt slow down. Windows does. For a server linux is the only choice, it isnt even a choice its more like "oh, im buying a server, what version of linux would i like..."For a front end to users windows has its advantages in the fact that users are dumb. I regularly get calls saying "X program isnt installed", it is, i know it is but i have to go to the room and make a shortcut on the desktop.... That isnt the fault of the OS but it does mean that we are limited to what we can do which is a shame. For a desktop windows can suffice, it isnt perfect but as you said XP is a decent OS and it is my favorite windows OS, win7 is nice but too locked down and too graphical. XP is gritty. But for a server windows just hasnt got anything useful.
  4. Yes they did.... Wow are you living under a rock?!Do some research ;)Your name includes a reference to the game and yet you dont know anything about it.Fail.
  5. Undoubtedly there is a lot of weight on the link between the higher applications like office and the deeper systems of the operating system but i still maintain that if you need 100% uptime, reliability, stability, speed and security you simply have to use linux. In mission critical environments you cant risk the instability of windows. The only reason we use windows on the workstaions here is for the benefit of the kids who arent taught ICT anymore they are taught "How to use microsoft windows XP" and "How to use microsoft office".The irony is before i started here they used OO on all the machines, then we had problems because users were using MS word at home and couldnt open the ODT documents saved here at home. So we changed to office 2003, all was going fine until office 2007 comes out, we install that and instantly have issues because people who use OO or MS office 2003 at home now cant open .docx files and then an even weirder error where if a user logs on to an older machine (Where we updated office 2k3->2k7 rather than fresh install of XP and then office 2k7) and do some work in office 2007, then log off when they next log on to that machine it will give an "Access denied" to all documents opened in office. Even to uys as admin users with 0 restrictions we get denied access to documents. The only way to solve it is to restart the machine and clean the cache which office somehow stores clearing out the stored permissions. Linux doesnt do that
  6. But if we are talking about two machines with identical specs running similar graphical options and programs (for example moderate effects enabled in vista/7 and in ubuntu MM both running their default browser (not firefox, whatever else MM came with Vs IE) with a couple of file manager windows open (so Dolphin and Explorer) and then doing everyday office work (a little word processing in OO.o Vs MS Office and other general work) the Linux machine will be much more stable over time. My linux machine at work is on all week and doesnt slow down or become unstable, windows on the other hand slows right down by the end of the week. The other linux guy i work with has left his machine on for months without a crash or slowing down.I work in a school and the number of windows machines that have strange problems like over time a user will get "stuck" and not be able to log on requiring one of us admins to login and remove the user from the users list (otherwise the machine tries to authenticate between the network and the local machine and it cant, all users should be removed from the local list on logout) or general corruption errors leading to machines in endless reboot cycles or a situation where windows hangs for an infinite amount of time on a network login until one of us re-images the machine or manually removes the network client, removes the local user directories and users and reinstall the client. All the servers run on Nix, my main machine in the office is Nix and it is my belief that if we were fully Nix and taught the users then we would be in a better position.
  7. I dont think you quite understand the theories... Firstly: Are you referring to the idea that in the beginning there was only one particle of one type and from that all other elements (iron, oxygen etc...) were created? If so then you are referring to nuclear fusion whereby two hydrogen atoms are crushed with IMMENSE forces and temperatures at the core of a star like our sun and the protons, neutrons and electrons are mushed together creating a molecule with two electrons, two protons and some neutrons. hence two become one. In time two helium atoms will come together to form a heavier element, and so on. with your analogy it wouldnt work, with one glass ball you cant merge another glass ball with it and form a different type of glass, but in physics that is what happens since the properties of an element, hydrogen for example, are dictated by the nubver and position of electrons. Hydrogen has one electron and it *desperately* wants two which is why it is flammable, the act of burning it gives it extra electrons, in this case sharing with oxygen and a second hydrogen molecule to form H20, or water. Anyway... By definition the universe isnt everything we can see. If i put you in an enormous warehouse 10 miles long and wide, make it pitch black dark and then use a little torch to light the area around you feet, you are suggesting that the universe is that patch of light at your feet (everything *you* can see) but in this analogy the universe is the warehouse. it is EVERYTHIHNG. The only thing that can exist outside of a universe would be part of an omniverse (theoreitcal super universe type thing, sort of like a warehouse within an infinite warehouse) or another universe. The universe is the container with no boundaries. You cant have another universe that we can see with a telescope, or fly to. You can have other galaxies and clusters etc.. (like other spots of light in the dark warehouse) but not another universe. To go to a different universe you first need to create some sort of space-time/dimensional "rift" or "portal" much like opening the warehouse door and teleporting to the door of another warehouse. Nothing exists outside of that warehouse so you cant walk there, you just teleport. I Agree it isnt an exact science but we can be rough by noting the trajectory of the object we can trace it back through time and space. This doesnt account for collisions but if enough objects trace back to the same point (like shrapnel from a bomb) then we can guess where the explosion was. I am assuming this is relation to the big bang? With relevance to the soda can... I would guess one of two things would happen. Either the can would cease to exist due to the fact that in a singularity time and space are so warped literally anything could happen, perhaps time itself is twisted so that the can vanishes from existence, or perhaps space is so warped that it teleports elsewhere. OR it would just be crushed and "evaporate" into a soup of subatomic particles. Of course, the rope would snap LONG before any of this happened, no matter the strength of the rope it would either break or drag the anchor into the black hole, even if you tethered it to a planet the rope would pull the planet into the blackhole.
  8. It's the other way around ;)OSX is based on linux, indeed it is so heavily based on linux is virtually IS linux (or *nix, should i say).Same goes for windows, things like windows 7 and Vista Aero and other GUI effects are all based on KDE and Gnome effects like Compiz which were around LONG before Gates copied the idea. The only thing that apple and MS invented before *nix is instability
  9. Kubuntu is slightly similar to windows in that it has the application menu where Start is on MS, but in truth the basics are all the same, clicking, double and right, all do the same things as do most keyboard shortcuts.for day to day use you dont need to relearn much at all, it gets complex when something goes wrong, then you need to learn fast ;)Still dont see much difference with the new version though...
  10. I r dissapoint.I dont see much difference at all, new icons and new font but that's it. Only had it in 10 minutes but meh, first impressions are meh.
  11. Sounds good my man!Running 10.4 here with plenty of customization packages etc.. and a fresh install is called for, downloading the ISO now and the other linux guy in the office is going with a web-update through the package manager. I Really hope it's a little fresher than 10.4, nothing wrong with it but it doesnt feel massively fresh or clean. May well install KDE over the top of 10.10, we will see i suppose.
  12. Vindictus and FW are both free to play MMORPGs currently in beta in the North US. If you live in the North US google "Free vindictus beta key IRC" or similar. There is an IRC channel with a user "Celadon" he and some of the mods of the channel have a list of beta keys, when you register your key you get two which you can then give out to mates for them to use so what the IRC channel does is asks you for one of those keys, or both, in return. That way their stock of keys increases and you get a key, it's win-win.FW i think is in open beta, you need a key but there are loads out there.Look for some gameplay vids of the two, most of them are in korean since it was first released there but Vindictus has been out in the US a little while. They both look good and are more mature than WoW which i agree, is a little childish.
  13. I play wow on and off, it gets boring but then i get bored of not playing MMORPGs, try loads of free ones (Rappelz, Requiem, Runes of Magic, Cabal, MU Online and more) and realise they are coded badly, glitches, scratchy textures, LOADS of spammers and glitchersm lack of updates, lack of coherent support system and in game support, linear progression, lack of decent talents, skills and crafting/gathering skills weak zone systems, weak quest lines and in the case of games like Cabal and MU it's not even free roam!! (Cabal has set paths that are well disguised but you cant go up/down ridges for example, no jumping, no swimming etc...)Wow does have an edge but Vindictus and Forsaken World come into Beta in the UK soon so that might change for me
  14. That's better, a proper post that we can actually reply to and discuss....Solar energy.... enough energy hits the earth in a day to power us for months if not years, but when a solar panel is only 1 square meter or so we have a problem....As far as i am concerned the future of energy is nuclear. Unless we move solar production outside of our atmosphere. The Dyson Sphere ideas are brilliant but they will never be created in the next 1000 years or so (maybe 500 for a partial sphere or ring of small devices) but out in space novel ideas can be used rather than basic solar cells we can use induction, magnet currents etc... to focus and trap electrons from the solar wind and use those to power an IR laser which is collected back on earth to re-generate electricity. clean, green and lots of it. But at the moment it isnt particularly feasible. For the near future, perhaps the next century, nuclear will take over. After that perhaps solar outside the earths atmosphere.

    Jquery/php

What do you mean by "accordion". In english an "accordion" is a music instrument: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51A9tVAfTbL._SL500_AA300_.jpg I also dont understand what difficulty you are having, in PHP it is very possible indeed to use a while loop: $number = 10;while($number > 0){echo "$number, ";$number--;} gives the output Since the $number variable started at 10 and it gets decremented (decreased_by 1) each time the loop runs and the loop only runs until $number hits 0 so the loop runs 10 times giving that output. I dont know Jquery myself but i am guessing the syntax is similar: while(some condition == FALSE){Do this stuff hereChange conditionRepeat} Im confused :S
  16. Yup inea is a spammer spam spam spam. that's all you do inea. Perhaps one or two of your posts have got replies, the others all contain replies that say "stop spamming inea" or something to that effect. Let me explain why i think you spam... You post posts that make no sense and have no way for me to reply such as: How the hell am i supposed to reply to that? I cant, since the entire two reasons for engaging on a forum are: 1) To provoke debate or engage in debate/discussion 2) to share knowledge Your posts do neither!!!! Hence the only other reason for you to post is to get cents. Since i explained to you many times how the cent system works you can see that your approach really wont work. Let me say this again. INEA, listen... you will not get many cents by making lots of new posts. IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY!!! /rant PS this entire site has gone downhill in the last year or so to be honest. The best form of protest is to organize a mass boycott. Get a few hundred users, or even just 50+ active members to avoid the site completely for 7 days. Or every single disgruntled member starts a brand new topic each in the suggestions forum. Or send opaque and Buffallo PMs Tell every new member the site is awful and propose an alternative... So many ways
  17. Inea, listen very carefully. Nobody cares.Secondly, you are trying to either increase your post count (to make you feel special, since you seem to need that) or to get MyCents to pay for hosting.Assuming you want more Cents to buy hosting, let me tell you that you are going about it all the wrong way, you really are. You dont just get cents for making new topics that no-one cares about. It isnt based on postcount where one post equals 15 cents or something like that. The algorithm analyses the CONTENT of your posts, since NONE of your posts have ANY content you wont get hardly any cents.Jesus kid learn to read, read what we are saying. No-one here cares about your meaningless posts, it wont increase your cents at all so you are wasting your time. You only reason i havent reported you yet is because you havent breached the TOS but the second you do i will be reporting you to the mods. Please, just leave this forum. You have 0 friends here and a total of 0 people like you.Goodbye.
  18. Since i am not making a profit on the images the right of copyright doesnt really apply so much. Since i have also not altered the image at all i have pretty much gone along with the accepted standards of copyright on the internet. You too uploaded other people's images to the web so if i am guilty then so are you ;)I will keep re-uploading that image until you stop trying to censor the content based on your minority views. No-one else here has a problem with this image except you. If the majority of the forum did not want to see it i would consider not uploading it. But it is only you and you are trying to make me shut up and sit down because YOU dont like it, not because i am doing something wrong but because YOU want your OWN way, regardless of the feelings of others.Good day.
  19. I am angry that an individual with minority views feels he has the right to censor publicly owned content for his own little mind despite the majority view being that it does not need censoring.I will happily re-upload the image every time inea shifts it along. If it gets replaced by honest content then fair enough. But i wont bow to censorship
  20. If people post their details then they will soon learn when someone stalks them. I have *very* little sympathy or compassion for fools or idiots so what happens happens IMHO!
  21. Mods can, you cant.I believe if you make a new topic you can delete it before other people reply (not sure though)Moderators can remove any topic they want according to the TOS and common sense.
  22. Inea stop being a douche. (i cant use the terminology i would like to so i have to use American insults... my life is at an all time low.)I re-uploaded the image that your childish little brain is afraid of and i will continue to upload it to combat your censorship. You have a problem? Then talk big man... I would ask the mods to intervene but he hasnt broken the TOS either, yet....
  23. The OP stated that the file has no extension
  24. You missed the first step... Check the power cable and power socket is turned on. Check the switch on the back of the machine to ensure it is on. To test the lead pull it out the back of the computer then insert it slowly and wiggle it, you should hear a crackle as the electricity sparks. This means the lead and power is good.Next is the PSU. Check the power supply fan turns on when pressing the power button. If you are unsure then remove the PSU from the machine and remove the power lead, short circuit the psu connection to the main motherboard. Place a bent paperclip between the green and one of the black connectors (double check this, google it, dont try it, GOOGLE it!) this connector is the biggest of all. Connect up a cd drive or something to the power supply place it on a non conductive, non-flamable surface. Remove your hands and ensure nothing metallic or living is touching anything. Remove the plug from the wall then connect the psu to the lead. Step back and plug the lead into the wall. The PSU fan should spin up. If it does not double check you have connected the jumper paperclip correctly and connected the cd drive correctly and that the power is on and connected. If all of this is the case then the PSU is dead and you need a new one. If the PSU passes the test replace it into the machine unplug all drives and devices. Hard drive, CD drive. Turn on the machine. The motherboard should beep. If it beeps once shortly then the motherboard is fine and the computer should work. If it gives a series of beeps, a pattern or a long single beep then there is an error. Find your motherboard or BIOS name, probably stamped on the board somewhere or if you remember the logo when you turned the machine on in the past (The very first screen you see) google "BIOS/MB NAME bios beep codes" and you should find a table of beep codes, see which one corresponds with what you hear and then there is your problem.
  25. Try opening it in notepad. If it is plain text, which would make sense, then you will see text that you can understand. If you see weird characters then it is in some propriety format and i have no idea what extension it needs. The extension is however irrelevant. It only tells the computer what program to use. For example if it sees ".txt" it knows to use notepad. The extension doesnt change the content of the file at all. Try opening it in flight simulator perhaps...
