A New Fan Design a big object made small
shadowx replied to NNNOOOOOO's topic in Science and Technology
Hmmm.. im not really up on turbine construction, something along the lines of air being compressed, mixed with fuel, ignited, driving a turbine and creating a stable outflow of air and exhaust to provide thrust?could be wrong, either way.... If I understand correctly you would want to compress the incoming air then using a fan accelerate it out the back where it would expand and give extra air flow as opposed to a fan on its own?I think it would be fairly noisy... However, any fluid (gasses are classed as fluids too i believe) expanding will remove heat from it's surroundings, so in theory you could also generate a stream of slightly cooled air, probably not a lot but a degree or two maybe. -
I dont know if Gparted will do the trick in this situation, I havent used it standalone, can it repair the MBR record?in truth I expect re-installing the GRUB boot loader would solve the problem (GRUB is the loader which gives you the "which operating system do you want to start" type thing) but the only reliable way I know of installing GRUB would be to use the Ubuntu installer, im pretty sure you can install GRUB on it's own but it seem a bit risky to me....Replacing the files also sounds like a good idea but it may not be fool proof, again with the Ubuntu CD you can use the "live" part of the CD to try ubuntu without installing, put the disc in and boot into it andf just click the "Try ubuntu without making any changes" you get the ubntu desktop without installing, from there you access the windows partitions and copy files from a USB hard drive, USB stick etc.. straight into your broken windows install.PS you say it freezes on startup, assuming you use safe mode what is the last driver entry? Is it MUP.sys? Usually if you can see the last entry in the drivers list when it freezes you can find a solution, usually by replacing that file. Worth a shot methinks!

So it's a fan in a tube?Since surely a jet engine without ignition and turbines is merely some kind of propeller (fan) in a casing? -
Hmm.... What version of linux is on there? I would be tempted to do one of two things...The simplest is to start windows in safe mode: Reboot the machine and when the POST/BIOS screen is gone (IE the second before the windows screen shows) press and hold F8 on the keyboard. It may well beep, just ignore it. Hopefully you will get a screen asking how you want to start windows, choose safe mode. Once in there you should be able to do a system restore etc....The second option is to fix the boot record. This wont help windows run per say but will solve the issue you have with two operating systems on the disk. It is perfectly safe to have more than one OS, all of my machines except this work one (which is pure nix) have a version of windoze and ubuntu installed on the same disc. However in your case the boot record seems to have been buggered. The boot record is in essence the contents page of the disk. It tells the rest of the hardware where each OS sites and where its bootstrap program sits. So, the easiest and safest way to fix it will be to re-install linux, google ubuntu, download the ISO and burn to a disk or usb (instructions for both are on their site) Put the disc in and if needed modify the BIOS to boot from the disc. Ubuntu will ask if you want to install or try it, choose install. You will be asked basic questions, none of them are particularly important except one. The partitions. By default ubuntu will want to use the entire disc, you need to "Specify partitions manually (Advanced" (if i remember rightly) ENSURE you tick that check box and click continue/next. This is where the magic happens, *BLEEP* this up and windows will no longer exist (which has its advantages...) If all goes well you are now presented with a lovely graphical bar of partitions. In there should be two or possibly three "EXT" partitions, possibly marked with "Linux" or whatever version of nix is on there. you need to replace ONLY these "EXT" and "SWAP" partitions. The SWAP partition will be only a couple of GB if that, the other EXT partition(s) will be several GB i expect. Select the SWAP partition, click "Delete" *please* double check you click the right partition, screw this up and windows will never work Repeat this for all other EXT type filesystems. You will then see you have "Free space" click it then click "New Partition" do NOT click "New Partition TABLE"!! You will be asked for a size, type and mountpoint. For size type in 1024 (assuming it is measured in MBs) for type select SWAP. if there is a "use this partition" option tick it and OK/Apply that. Click the free space again, New Partition, this time select "EXT 3" as the type and leave the size as it is (should be maximum, if not just type in as much free space as you have) for mount point just type "/" (slash) or choose it from the list. You should now be able to continue and ubuntu will install to those partitions. Once installed take the disc out and reboot, you should be asked which OS to boot into, select and go.NOTE: I take no responsibility for any sort of cataclysmic event involving this process, if a black hole opens and swallows the known universe its your fault not mine! Likewise if any loss of data or equipment results I take no responsibility! Changing partitions can cause loss of data if you delete the wrong thing. There

Wireless Networking I need help. My acer is going crazy on me
shadowx replied to iGuest's topic in Computer Networks
First thing in any troubleshooting is to update the drivers. You need to find out which wireless card your laptop has, either by googling or by using the Hardware Manager (google it) then search the net for updated drives. ONLY download them from a trusted website, a lot of sites offer crap and viruses when you search for drivers. If the website offers you a free scan decline it, do not download any kind of PC Doctor software or anything that promises to find drivers and update them. You want the driver and nothing more. Then double check the password for the wireless is correct on the laptop. -
I have had this before and at the time it seems my site may have actually been infected with something, this time my site is secure and my custom error handling is taking care of the problems. My access logs have a lot of requests for PHP scripts in the directory "mysite.com/iqici/sbtih" originating from different IPs on different subnets, suggesting they could be from a botnet perhaps or some other geographically dispersed network. Is this a well known thing?Like I said, my site is not at risk but it does show a number of clients requesting the same or similar files, so either they are command files for a botnet or they are part of a well known root kit or other exploit that clients are blindly trying to find by hitting every domain out there for those specific files.Any insight? Also had a hit for a wordpress upload URL so there must be an exploit out there for that too considering I dont use WP

Is Anyone Else Having Problems? Site Down
shadowx replied to flyillusions's topic in Web Hosting Support
Is Xisto still going?Xisto is unreachable, my domain renewal doesnt seem to have been processed and T17 is now this!I am thinking of starting up a new site, I wouldnt host it here if it gets popular but I am debating whether or not to host it with xisto to start with as an experiment but seeing as I can get to my domain cpanel to do anything I might just give up.This is pretty bad given how good T17 was. -
The computer system already generates alerts when hardware is unplugged or when a network connection goes down, there is no need to re-invent the wheel.Every system has an error log, those on linux are easy to read, they are just .log files i believe. Windows could be more tricky but all you need to do is watch the error logs with your program, when an event is detected a message is sent. You will not be able to use such a system to detect network failure however, since if the network is unplugged your message has no route to the IT office. For that you would need to monitor the network and perhaps PING a workstation every few seconds to check connectivity, depending on the size of the environment this could cause massive traffic on the network,The only other option is to cache the error in your program and wait until the network is plugged back in and THEN send the error message up.

This Is To Testify If He Is God.. with Proofs plz.
shadowx replied to Sharukh's topic in Health & Fitness
I would like to introduce you to Gandalf, my God.It is said he once cured a man of a limp by providing him with nothing more than a sturdy stick with which to talk, every day he moves the waters of the earth to provide his wading birds with fresh sand and mud on which to collect the food he places there. Then the waters of the oceans come back once more to the land so he can replenish the sand banks.According to your logic you must believe anything I say. I can fly. I do not need to provide proof since your god does not provide proof and yet you still believe in this "miracles".If you do not ask for or seek proof then you are nothing but a weak minded individual following those around you through fear. Demand proof, if your god is real you will receive the proof. So yes, ANY god can match yours since none of them exist. -

While your analogy of two left feet is intriguing I must point out that its origin is in referring to an individual's inability to dance. However, in case you were correct I did look at my feet and imagine my surprise: Now, this not being 4chan.org/b my desire to simply post a picture of an owl with an amusing face and the letters "ORLY" placed below it was quickly replaced with my desire to expose your aggression and foolishness to the world at large. Also, while you collection of underage children crying is... expansive.. I feel such inclined individuals may be better treated in a correctional facility. You claim I have done nothing to aid this forum, incorrect. I have recently completed the initial laying of a 100tb direct phaser pulsed fiber line from the Xisto communications center into the main fiber links in the US, Europe and Asian continents. While I cannot yet allow traffic to pass over that connection due to the possibility of a singularity it will hopefully be operational yesterday. Depending on the capability left in my flux capacitors. I have also posted the main reasons I do not visit this forum regularly in my first post in this topic. It would seem you have not done the same so I would infer that it is you who has done nothing to resolve this situation and in fact I have done my part in informing the administrators of those annoyances. While I cannot speak for the members as a whole I believe it is a starting point for the administrators. I appreciate your concern for my growth, much like that of the kind nurse who attempted to measure my height. Unfortunately she was unable to push the measuring device up to the top of my cranium and I had to put it there myself, this was not due to some sort of random quantum fluctuation but in part due to my above average height of 6ft 3 inches. So your concern is unwarranted, though i appreciate the effort it clearly took you in typing out your worries. I take it from your references to feeding time you are planning on making me some sort of nutritionally balanced and tasteful meal, i gladly accept this invitation. Ordinarily I take my lunch in approximately 2 hours time. This would be a convenient time for me. -

Your concern is flattering, though i fail to see any part of my posts where i have mislead anyone, but please feel free to quote me and prove me wrong, as you obviously desire.Your disregard for females is worrying but i expect not many want to spend any time around you so the damage is limited.Karma... That thing invented by weak people who are unable to discover their own morals and thus rely on those from some supreme understanding which comes from a cold, dead universe with no thought, emotion or indeed sentience. I do tremble.Your comments regarding Bikerman are also unfounded. As i am sure you are aware i have been very absent from the forum, hence the likelihood of me knowing the virtual whereabouts of another member is low, further I fail to see any connection you have made between me and bikerman. When i think of a webhost i think of a company with physical access to server hardware and a high speed, redundancy enabled and reliable connection. Thus far this forum is extremely slow and a high speed connection without the high speed is merely a connection. i have such a connection at home or indeed here at work. Thus I conclude the servers, or the connection, is/are struggling to host this forum and while i appreciate the complexities involved in a high traffic forum if a web hosting company is unable to provide a suitable service for it's own support, advertising and community sites its ability to host other company or personal websites is to be questioned. If your point relates to the inability to hyperlink an image on the CH site be my guest and follow the link.If indeed I were wearing high heels it is unlikely I would have stubbed my toe, thus your analogy to a little girl is invalid. Further to that if you choose to think of little girls wearing high heels I suggest you leave the internet and close the door behind you. Finally, while you bemoan the fact I repeated my previous statements in my last post you are incorrect. Any simpleton capable of basic literacy would realize that my last post was a defense to your unfounded aggression and did not contain any repetition. -

Ah on the contrary dear friend!AS it stands i dont give a flying monkey about the forum. It is irrelevant to my life, however, i remember how it used to be, back in the day of Xisto, it had a bit of personality, it was sensible and ordinary, now it is just... weird, a abnormality on the web. While i have no concern for it's survival or for your opinions i find it hard to comprehend how Xisto became this and at least through strong opinions perhaps the admins will get it rather than everyone side stepping the issue. Thus far i have seen no suggestions for improvement nor any issues being raised other than one other member mentioning the silly name and another mentioning the time it takes to load, which frankly is dreadful, for a company who says they will host my public website the loading time is just a joke, any newbie will be instantly turned away by the load times, after all, if a hosting company is unable to host *itself* what would give the impression it has the resources to host another site? But be my guest and sidestep the issues and produce nothing but idle waffle. It is inconsequential, other than that you could of course advise the admins. -

Oh the forum that turned PATHETIC, stupid, ridiculous and laughable... Oh *that* forum... Allow me to explain why I no longer partake in this forum, indeed today is the first time I have logged in for perhaps a few months:The name, i mean jesus christ, knowledge*sutra* what am i going to do? Shag the forum? Seriously Opaque/BH, sort your name out, it makes me cringe. Its pathetic. The layout. Maybe im being picky but it irritates meFacebook, really, i mean really. Do we need the sort of lowlife integration of facebook? Get rid of it.Even the logo doesnt blend with the title bar, i mean really? You cant even get a logo and a background colour to match up, why would I trust you?The sister site Xisto - Web Hosting has a page where you can select what type of hosting you want but you cant order it!!! Hahahahaha, Xisto - Web Hosting, a HOSTING company cant even host their OWN site and make it work?! Really? I mean really really?! How pathetic is that!!! Hahahasee: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ on the order button, nothing happens. Nice, a hosting company that cant even code a simple link tag, right on!!I will just leave this here. I likely wont see any replied due to the above reasons. -
Why Doesn't Christainity Accept Skulls?
shadowx replied to MyEternalVengence's topic in Health & Fitness
Because christianity doesnt accept anything. Women, homosexuals, open minded individuals, questions, discussion etc...You do as the church says or you go to hell, there is no middle ground I am afraid. -
Not entirely true. Most of those in GB (Guantanamo Bay) are innocent too. So what the US is doing is kidnapping them, holding them prisoner and torturing them. The only difference is the US isnt doing it for money but power unlike the terrorists who want money. The UK is not innocent either but this isnt a war of good vs evil, the US gave Osama guns and money. Not a single WMD was found in iraq and yet oilfields were... Strange that... Not to mention he was hung pretty quickly too... the dead cant speak. Of course he was a bad person, but the US is now no better than he was and unfortunately the politicians here in the UK are weak and follow foreign influences too much. We need to withdraw from the US forces tomorrow, withdraw from the euro and stand on our own two feet. Those two combined have taken too much money from the UK and have lead to the deaths of innocents here. I agree that the terrorists are evil and i completely endorse the inhumane torture of those who truly are terrorists, but let us not forget those who have done nothing wrong. Wikileaks is always a good site Especially the video of an Apache gunship killing unarmed civilians and while they are literally dragging their own wrecked torsos across the ground to hide behind a wall the american with the trigger laughs and shouts as though he is playing a video game. *spit* Filth. Not only that... But a van comes along to pick up the bodies, and if i remember rightly, there is a little girl in the van and again, there are no weapons nor even any indication that the driver of the van knows the helicopter is still there and once again the american opens fire after practically begging permission to engage and he is delighted to kill those people. If you havent seen the video then you should watch it but you will see innocent people torn apart by bullets.

Get a job.
-
And this is the problem...What would i do to a known terrorist? Hah, waterboarding would be like a holiday, they would sincerely wish to die many times a year only for me to nurse them back to health and start all over again. They wouldnt be killed, they would die of old age but beg for death every day ;)However.... Are these people known terrorists? Nope.America sees the taliban sending out leaflets containing propaganda, and yet when the US press starts with its headlines "TERRORIST" "EVIL MASTERMIND" and so on.. that is just propaganda.I agree, a terrorist has no human rights, but then what are the "allied" forces doing in guantanamo bay and other such torture and interrogation areas? Are they not using terror as a weapon? And what does a terrorist do?*shrugs*I am not excusing the taliban or any other terrorists, but America gave Osama Bin Laden the guns he uses today so your sheet isnt so clean either

I have never heard of this before but then i dont use ASP (Its naaaaaaasty! Should look at PHP ) the only thing i can suggest for now is trying the password you use to login to windows with.If you dont use a login to access the computer try the username "User" or "The User" with no password.Ordinarily i wouldnt have replied since i have no idea but since you havent got any replies yet it gives you something to try.

Make Your Computer Talk. This trick work in all the version of window.
shadowx replied to Omniscient's topic in Software
This *IS* the built in text-to-speech but it is being called up directly via VBS(Visual basic script). You could do a lot more with this.....voice alerts when some event happens, voice alerts on login/startup so you know the pc is ready from another room etc... -
Aliens: Fact Or Fiction Do Aliens Exist
shadowx replied to fenixfan's topic in Science and Technology
Yup, aliens exist.Simple as!The complex question is "are they here, or have they ever been here?"There are now enough privately owned monitoring systems that government cover-ups dont really apply anymore. The idea of "the government knows about aliens and is lying" is out of the window. So, where are they? I dont believe they have made it here, and i certainly dont believe they are here now. First is the problem of distance and time. If we assume that traveling faster than light (FTL) is possible then it would seem that an alien race could get here within a few years (if they could go 100C or so (C means speed of light)) HOWEVER... Even if FTL travel is possible you would theoretically disintegrate. Space isnt empty, it has a smattering of small molecules and atoms, namely hydrogen and other light elements, the particles are so far apart we might as well say space is empty, but if you are going 10C through space you will hit so many hydrogen atoms at such great speed that within seconds your craft, and you, would be shredded. It would be like driving towards a hundred loaded shotguns, messy.I dont see any way around that, perhaps an IMMENSE EM field might have some effect but i severely doubt it.The only possible way to travel FTL and survive would be wormholes. Now, given that we have instruments that can detect an even hundreds of light years away we would easily detect an alien race dropping out of warp drive and opening a wormhole in our neighborhood due to the immense energy outburst it would create. Even if the government tried to cover that up someone out there would see it and we would know about it instantly. Although that doesnt stop the idea that they came here in ancient times... Since no-one would have noticed an xray or gamma ray burst back then they could have easily dropped by. I cant say they didnt but i will say that i find it unlikely.... And i certainly dont think they walk among us today, they wouldnt be able to mask themselves to look like humans, and even if they could they would fail biometric tests and have abnormal results in standard health checks as infants. -
After moving the camera forward several times it is clear that the second image is attached to the car, EG an aerial or other object fixed to the car or splattered on the camera, perhaps bird turd (when birds eat berries the colour changes accordingly so a pinky/purple hue isnt unusual) and the abrupt clear line at the base of the blur would be where the images are merged and hence cut off.

The most often use for me to make a config file (which is my method) is for database connections. A site might have 6, 7, 25 pages that need to connect to the same database, at first i would write the code into each file to connect to the DB but then when uploading a site the database address or user etc... changes so i have to edit 5 or 6 pages each time so now i just make a separate PHP file called something like connect.php and use REQUIRE to pull it in to the pages. Usually it is something like: <?//connect.php$host = "localhost";$user = "logmein";$pass = "please!";$db = "mydata";mysql_connect.....;mysql_select_db...$db...;?> Simple and easy!

I am assuming the OP is being sarcastic (if you really believe these are signs from a god then you are deluded )The first one is a windsock. The google car has an array of something like 8 cameras which take a photo together, using info in the photos, namely straight lines and patterns, the software stitches them together and blurs the edges (hence the "fog" like effect) to make one image. In this case the software has shifted the sock part of the windsock (the orange tube) too far left and the pole on which is is hung is too far right resulting in the image we see.The second photo is a similar effect but i couldnt say what the original image is meant to be but you can see it is misaligned and blurred. Since the sky is an empty region all stitching software will suffer terribly to create a decent image hence the results.

Due to the forum rules regarding the discussion of hacking, cracking or other illegal activities I require your email address to validate your account. Once we have confirmed the validity of your account we will require you to confirm your password with us. Please email me the following so i can confirm your account. As you understand subjects like these are tightly controlled on a forum. I will need: The email address used to register the account Your first name And i also require you to confirm your password. ___ NOTE!!!! This is NOT a genuine request... do NOT email me, or any other member, moderator or administrator ANY of the details above under any circumstances This is merely an example of social engineering and not a legitimate request. Social engineering within computer security usually involves two things, one is to gain the trust of the user, either via impersonation with legitimate sounding reasons, or via fear or pressure, and the second thing is a request or instruction. For example another situation may be something like watching an office until the boss leaves (identifiable by a personal parking space, numberplate etc...) then phoning a known extension number (found by a previous call to the office or insider info or even a sheet on the receptionists desk) and pretending to be a representative of the boss from a partner company or office, or head office, mentioning that you know the boss isnt there as he is on his way to a meeting (if he left in the middle of the day in sharp business attire perhaps) and that you need XYZ in order to do ABC, Mr Boss Man has asked me to call you as he is driving and cant use the phone blah blah blah The theory is easy, but having the right tone of voice and using the right words almost certainly isnt.
