  1. You hear penultimate a lot in Latin. Stress is always on the penultimate. Since pen means almost, and ultima/ultimate is the end, it's almost at the end. Same for peninsula. Pen = almost, insula = island. Yay, I taught you guys Latin!
  2. My site demonstrates one of A List Apart's many menus. Just look for the CSS menus they have. For guestbooks, a remotely hosted script might be best. Bravenet.com and a few other sites have them. There's also a few scripts for this in your cPanel. Try checking it out.
  3. The problem with Frontpage is that it inserts all sorts of filler text into your file, just unnecessary little things. Plus, Dreamweaver is a little more recent and I think it works more fluidly. But it's really a matter of preference on your part.
  4. A database used to log certain bits of information about an executed script has 99 users on it. Basically, it's like a server-side list of users of your site upon other things which you can tell your site to use to, say, let someone log in. It's within the cPanel under the databases section. That was a bad description, sorry :/
  5. Yay! I have relatives in Chennai/Madras
  6. It actually wouldn't scroll if I removed the doctype, but I need that there. You'll see it looks like a long gray bar (which is annoying). I can always shrink the pictures or whatever. I'm not a fan of scrolling either I actually tried to remove some pink. My last attempt with pink (my error page is the current example since I haven't made a new one yet) was totally overboard. I got sick of it after I finished designing it. If you click on any of the links here, you're going to see this ghastly pink error page. I think that this pink is probably more what I was going for since it's only used as an accent color. True, I have accents all over the place, but I think this is the maximum amount of pink I can put into a page without having myself gawk at the whole thing while I'm editing it. Thanks again
  7. That's some crazy grass. It's like OMG NEON. The shadowing could use a little work but wow. Nice
  8. Erm...Maybe you've been stuck in design view instead of code view the whole time but there's really no way you can make a webpage without some form of code going into it. You'll probably want to learn at least some code before you go straight into making the site - at least that way, you can learn ways to make your website better. Dreamweaver's only there to help you make an easy site but it's actually pretty powerful with all the extensions it has. Same as for any hard subject in school: You can't always take the easy way out. But it is true that you can learn a lot from it.
  9. It does sound like fun though, but I'd probably be the first one somehow fall off the sled into the lava and become OMG DARTH VADER through my magical powers. Ao)K-General- Never underestimate sarcasm. Ever.
  10. Notes: This is a prototype of the CSS navigation panel. I'm going to definitely make the images more swanky. The font size is only size 10 temporarily until I have more time to work on the size of the image. The links are also standard links - I haven't customized them in any fashion. The site still manages to validate, which is a good sign, but I'm still not too happy with using this type of layout again. Anyways, accessibility is better than being stuck in a labyrinth of pages. < /end rant> So far, this is what I've made. It's not what I would have wanted, but I hope I can work it out between now and...well...later today as it's already 3 AM >< Anyways, same rules apply. Comment, criticize (go harsh, I don't mind), provide alternatives?
  11. But your site is currently all error-ful and OMGZ I DON'T WANT TO WORK TODAY :(Can't wait to see it at any rate. I have high hopes
  12. I tried the ul/li CSS nav on most of my other sites and I got kind of bored with reusing it so often (now that I dwell on that for a minute, it was probably because it did work, but it was a pain sometimes). But yeah, I do miss the streamlined accessible flair that got me going through all this validation in the first place. I suppose I should transfer them to my CSS file because they kind of clutter up the index page. About the link rel - I had text/css in there from the beginning, but I must have taken it out when I was changing around the URL path. Doh I'll mess around with the nav I usually use to see if I can find anything that works for the layout I want. Thanks for the comments (I swear, I'm practically brain dead today as far as the INTARWEB goes )
  13. I don't even know anymore. Let's grab some ice cream and call it a night.
  14. You're very welcome. Feel free to post your first few sites in the HTML forum (I think that's a good place to post them, if you want post credits). We'd love to see them. I started out with tables too. I thought that was as far as I'd get. I did experiment with frames, but if you don't do them the right way, they can get annoying. It's nice to know at any rate. If you want a basic site, I wouldn't really go beyond the CSS. Not many people really want to mess with PHP and MySQL, which is understandable. I was messing around with a template for my forum and I felt so insecure messing with the PHP because I didn't really know what I was doing. It doesn't really make a difference about which version of Photoshop you're using as long as you're satisfied with the results. Photoshop CS is pretty nice, but Photoshop 7 will do the job rather swankily. Validation is just a way of checking your steps. It just helps it to be viewed by certain types of browsers. It's pretty important for more visited sites because otherwise, you could have a really horrible page on one end and a perfect page on the other. It's not at all something customers would like to see Whatever you're using is probably fine. I haven't heard of it but I can go look it up. You don't have to have Dreamweaver or Frontpage. You can just do your thing with simple old Notepad but sometimes, being able to see your work as you're doing it really helps you out. Anyways, good luck with your learning It's an awesome step you're taking and it's really worthwhile.
  15. I hate how the church is trying to get so many laws passed. Not all people believe what a church belives, but if said church is a majority, it's probably a futile fight. I don't like having to obey laws ordained by a God I don't even worship.
  16. I remember playing that. I also remember playing some random graphics heavy one that I can't remember the name of. It was all in the heydey of my KOC fervor.
  17. It was to snlildude. What I'm trying to say is me commenting about the small font is probably unnecessary since it doesn't make the fractal look bad and it's probably the best choice as far as fonts go.
  18. That would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it? Ah well. You can't win them all :/
  19. Awesome! I forgot I could use style tags in images. Thanks a bunch
  20. The red on black is exceptionally hard to read for me. I think your shoutbox's theme is really good - maybe you could build off of that? I for one had no real problem with the blue, only the yellow. So you could use that as an accent color in places. I would consider building off of a color you like by finding colors that work well with it. The dark font on a dark background thing is overused and a little ugly :/ - you can probably afford to be original.
  21. I kind of digress. You can learn the workings of HTML through Dreamweaver. It's really simple to use other than Frontpage. It can help you get started if you're stuck by showing the tags as you type. However, learning the code by yourself without help is also important. I found it useful to look at the sources of site with features I liked (most of them navigation) and then I tried to replicate the code and personalize it. It may have been a poor choice at the time, but it did help me out a bit.
  22. Whoah that was a confusing poll. Anyways, I liked Diablo more than Starcraft because while Starcraft was fun, I like the fantasy based games better in the long run. Much to my displeasure, I never could play Homeworld 2 although I longed to. Back to the point. I played Diablo for about 4 years (I think). I started when I was 8 or something, I think with the original Diablo. It was a crazy addiction. My main character was a javazon named RatOfTheSouth. I had about four mule characters (think pack mule - they're spare characters that carried my things around), a barbarian (not sure what his name was), and a few other characters as well. I remember that I was about to beat Diablo in Hell (I got power levelled past Hell's Baal earlier) when I was level 77 but I was away for two months and my account and my characters were deleted. All my lovely runes and gems were gone I haven't gotten into the game again because of that. Otherwise, I'd probably be on it right now since my World of Warcraft server is down Also, I think they should concentrate on Starcraft: Ghost before they dive into another Diablo or whatever. It's probably not long in coming. They may even make a World of Diablo and World of Starcraft which we could probably enjoy. Selling your accounts is against Blizzard policy, actually. I know it's illegal for World of Warcraft despite the numbers of people that do it for fast cash. It really impairs my wish for Blizzard to put in account sharing or account transfers so I can be online at the same time as my brothers. Your post is really tres confusing. You went from Diablo to hell to Bill Gates to Blizzard to the poll. I think an edit is in order.
  23. Yeah, I definitely need to fix the menu text today. I thought it was just me at first or maybe something in Photoshop. I can try adding a glow or a background to fix it I made the images in Photoshop, hand wrote the rest of it after borrowing and editing a layout from glisp.com since my mind went blank about CSS for a day. Normally I would use Dreamweaver to check things out, but it's on my other computer. @Cmatcmextra - I actually did set the border but the validation for XHTML said that border isn't a valid tag. Weird - but I'll try it again. Also, w3 usually generates the doctype tags (or they have before) which confused me. I had to go on a google rampage searching for "doctype" but I must have only copied part of it. Thank you
