  1. Can't remove it now, but I was hoping it'll get me some views on my problems with either Mac desktops.Risk and so on doesn't mean much, even building for OSX is easy, all you need is sse3. Ubuntu will run on anything, and Windows will run on x86 and bootcamp.
  2. I need a new computer, this is old and Windows and Ubuntu are both going slightly mad.I would enjoy Apple more than those two, but I'd probably still want Ubuntu on whatever I end up with as well.As I see, my options are either buy a Mac, build something for OSX, or build something for Windows. Of the first option, it's between the Mini and iMac. The Mini has integrated graphics, which I have now and I am literally half pleased, half pissed with, though I do not know if this is my old graphics or all integrated graphics. The iMac includes a screen which I don't need. It also doesn't let me choose the graphics, card, it is fixed going up with the moniter sizes and steep prices.I havn't built a computer before, and I don't mind spending an extra £100 to have it built, and the Apple 'tax' of similar value. If anything doesn't make sense, please point it out.
  3. There's a certain amount of leeway, I suppose it's enough to be over some easy reqs (though, my integrated gpu is doing a hell of a lot better than I understood possible). As that is so, screen inches per pound ("/lb) should be next on the to do list, raised.
  4. SMF for what the users see, IBP has a lofi version which is what Google sees, caches and uses in search results. You can't really invite spiders.. if your foruim is linked to by a page that Google knows of, that's all you need, eg your sig.As well as what the forum looks like, eg no javascript content, xhtml, etc, SMF and probably an IBP plugin used here, makes search friendly urls.
  5. I doubt it beats GMail Drive, that's probably the only reason I might get a gmail account.
  6. Yes, though change your practises (Ubuntu or don't open unscanned stuff).
  7. Another way is to link/embed an image and look on your access logs.
  8. Macs are always well built, even when they were (if ever) plastic.
  9. So what happens to the old credits, and are they still used till people sign up on this new page?
  10. How compatable is WPA, my mum has an internal wireless card and I don't want to shut her out. With wpa instead of wep, the password is safe, therefore the rest of it is basically safe. I personally don't bother with mac filtering or hiding SSID, if the password is safe enough I'd rather not make it hard for people I want to connect to do so.
  11. Firewire, while they did push it a lot, has problems like getting past passworded screensavers. It'd be good behind a kensington lock, but not otherwise. Oh.. 800 is still there. "For this reason, high-security installations will typically either purchase newer machines which map a virtual memory space to the FireWire "Physical Memory Space" (such as a Power Mac G5".Not sure I know enough to comment on the rest, like DDR3. Penryn is good, lower energy. This, and Snow Leopard, will really push OSX even further into amazing, in terms of battery life and speed.

    Annoying Spyware

I don't mean to add to the pile of stuff to do, but HiJack This is designed for this sort of things.
  13. Java is based on C/++, so it's not much of a change style-wise, the biggest change is the libraries and programs you use.
  14. Try the number after the first line as well.
  15. Yey, I hoped my credits will come in use someday.
  16. You might need to add yourself as a root java cert. No idea how, I just know my phone has that option.
  17. Well, you can flash things like routers, and this is certainly easier to get the OS to.
  18. Then this.Redirect ^/bladir/$ /blafile.php 301
  19. You could use DirectoryIndex in each htaccess, or something like this in the root dir. Redirect ^/*/$ / 301
  20. When you type in an address, it has no cache to go on, so it fetches a brand new answer, so its definitely up to date.Doesn't mean it's not poisoned, by spyware or the reccent thingy about normal DNS servers. This is generally pointless, OpenDNS is a more complete solution.
  21. Na, cross-os reading generally ignores everything, including writing. Rescue disks get round this.
  22. This is the community move to Intel/x86, while Macs were still on PowerPC. Still a bit of use, any x86 I think. "This would mean AMD users could run any application which specifically tests for intel cpus - without having to rely on decrypts or patched versions" on that page.
  23. Now, it should be function sniffing, as javascript should be used to enhance an experience, and there are many ways to check what is possible, and to work from there, not to identify the browser and hardcode what that browser can do.
  24. If a cronjob starts a php script, then yes. There is a function to make php last longer, which can be done in php.ini, htaccess or in the php script, http://uk3.php.net/manual/en/function.set-time-limit.php
