  1. it usually depends on the person. there are people who wear long hair and they still look like a guy with it. there are trims that match long hairs for men. it should accentuate the look and not degrade it. it's funny that in our country, there are a lot of people who wear long hair and they look like girls already although our society usually wants men to look like men and not girls (by having a short haircut), it's not necessarily forced (although there are some schools that enforce a short haircut), and there are some that accept that whole-heartedly.i have very thin hair that's why i do a buzzed cut most of the time and i don't wait for it to grow longer. i used to struggle with my hair before and now i'm totally happy with a really short haircut.
  2. oh i know this author. i've read his book, "haroun and the sea of stories" because it was a requirement in my literature class about two years ago in college. i loved it. it's a children's book, with a twist.i've never had the chance to read his other books but i would totally buy them if i have enough money about this topic, could you elaborate more on the topic about why the muslims were offended by the book and what's their reason you find it pathetic?
  3. yeah. i forgot to rephrase my statement. that was what i was trying to say. well i don't know if i understood your question, but i think it's because we wake up not only because of the dream, but also because of the impact after falling. i remember a dream of being thrown off of a cliff, and while falling i woke up. after that i realized i was on the floor as well. i think that was the only time i fell.
  4. the dreams you see are the representations of your subconscious. it's not really something that could've happened before in your life. the mind "sugarcoats" these informations from the subconscious and is left for us to know what it means. that's why there are a lot of dream interpreters out there to interpret such. our brain doesn't "choose" what to remember. it's part of the process of storing information in our brain. the reason why you don't remember some dreams is that they don't "register" to your brain compared to some. the more the dream gets "played" during a sleep, the more it gets remembered easily. it's not the brain doesn't remember or chooses to forget, it's just that it doesn't "register" to the memory.
  5. i'm thinking this is more related to astral projection where your "astral body" is returning to your physical body. then it's followed by a gasping of air, which is caused by drainage of energy during the astral travel and the whole process of returning to the body. if this is about falling from your bed after dreaming of "falling", well i think it's maybe because the body moves too much while sleeping
  6. we'll see i just really wanted to know how "difficult" this would be. lol. not to mention you asked for SM's help. and besides, you also mentioned that you're putting some trap history. i don't like history that much though. but i try
  7. that's cool i guess. but i think you should keep them as secret so people won't know how many steps some members are leading compared to others. you could mention the ranking but not the "number of clues" they've solved.
  8. i has been a long time since i've done biking. lol i don't have funny biking moments though.i think one of the most funny moments i've had was when we're doing lab in our electronics class. this was about a year ago. we were doing circuits for our experiment and i told my group mates that i would just go to the comfort room to wash up. when i came back, i closed the door and suddenly the lights went off. there's no brownout (apparently because the dc converter is still on). then my classmates started to look at my direction. i gave this why-are-you-looking-at-me look and just then i realized that i accidentally turned the lights off when i closed the door. everybody laughed and i just humiliated myself. i remember one of my group mates told me "that's one heck of an entrance".there's another one. it's in my operating systems class about three years ago. i was sitting on the last row along with 4 other guys and 1 girl. my seat mate and i were discussing some stuff while our prof was preparing his lecture slides on the computer. he mentioned that the class would be divided into groups of three for the project. then he signaled to the back row (to us) and asked, "to the guys at the back, can you hear me?". and all of the sudden, i shouted out of nowhere, "sir, she's not a guy!" while pointing to the single girl on our row. everybody in the room laughed really hard. i realized he was using the term "guys" as some sort of endearment to a young group of students and not just the male gender.
  9. it seems like your rules already have a lot of loopholes and you haven't even started yet. the timezone would really be a problem since not everyone in this forum is concentrated on just one timezone. i actually mentioned to you that it would be a bit hard for me to think because the time you set is equivalent to 2 in the morning. but i'm awake right now, so nevermind. i think it would only be hard for those who'll be logging in at the most inconvenient time, and worse, if it's after the game has ended. i'm still up for it though. i wanted to know how "difficult" really this is as you've claimed in the previous posts.
  10. dreaming is a way for the mind to process information we gathered through our waking state. i think i've mentioned it before that it's also a way for the mind to resolve issues we've encountered when we're awake. it's also a way of dwelling into your subconscious because some of the information are transferred there. i think i've mentioned this before somewhere in the forum. i think that was the topic about blind being able to see dreams and about someone who mentioned that he hated dreams with a passion. anyway, everyone dreams everyday. it's just that we're not able to recall our dream due to the fact that the information made from our dream doesn't register. dreams usually happen during the last few hours of sleep, in the REM (rapid-eye movement) stage. a person may dream of events that had happened during the day or something as vague as "running through a field and all of the sudden flying in air". i believe someone asked before that he hates dreams because it gives you what you want and when you wake up you realize it's just a dream. it's because it's how dream works. that "need" causes you to get anxious in your waking state and probably make you stressed. your mind creates the dream that would "hopefully" somehow resolve that "need" thus, allowing you to relax during your sleeping state. there are actually techniques in allowing yourself to remember your dream. i've done this quite a few times during the christmas vacation (one proof is i've made a dream diary and if you look at the dates, they're close to each other---usually one or two days). one way is to not make any sudden movements, usually caused by external sounds such as alarm clocks. and if you're on that part where it seems you're half-awake, don't force yourself to fully wake up, just lie on your bed for a few more minutes, and if successful, you could recall your dream. and in the case you do recall it, write it down, not only for reference, but you could also figure out some stuff that you don't know about yourself. i actually use a dream dictionary to interpret those dreams, and it makes me laugh because most of it is true. although i have one dream that i really don't understand. it was about a giant trying to chase my after i plucked a petal from a very small flower. actually it's so vivid that i totally remember the feeling i had when i was dreaming that. really? i thought it was the old people who like to scare children through horror stories. i think it's part of the kids' fascination. some kids know that it's probably not true and to some it may be. scaring other kids would be more like of a "bullying" of other kids.
  11. the reason's probably he's trying to make you understand stuff without using technical terms. but the problem with this approach is that, your dad could easily insert statements that may or may not hold truth. and i believe most members in this forum aren't that too young to not understand terminologies that are being taught in their classes at school. centripetal force is the one that acts on the body of motion while centrifugal force is the one acting on the source of centripetal force. both forces are of the same magnitude but on different directions. i think it's part of human nature to fear something that one has no control of, and in this case, some people fear the idea of life being more intelligent than ours. that we might be considered less or lower in terms of the hierarchy of creatures. while i agree that the possibility of life on other parts of the universe is high (and oddly enough, very interesting), but the thought of this "life" being more intelligent than us isn't as high of a possibility. again, this is just theories, that shouldn't probably considered as theories in the first place. the excessive use of "maybe" makes your "theory" less acceptable to most people. and to make things less appealing, why choose mars? you could have said jupiter or saturn, but you insist on "more intelligent life" on mars. by saying that the creatures then were in the form of "some sort of energy", you're just insisting on something that would even more put you on a doubtful position to everyone. how could that even be possible if the entire point of "life on mars" is in question? we're not only questioning the start of life on earth but also the point of "life on mars", which may be senseless at this point, with all the things we've learned about the solar system and especially our planet.
  12. i think it's part of the man's way of trying to prove that he's really a man by standing by his actions when he gets a girl pregnant. moreover, there are societies whose moral and ethical values are strongly backed up by its religion, which means that they have to marry the girl they impregnated. anyway, from the first statement, in this case there's nothing more manly in what he has done to you. i think you should have at least deserved to know his reason before hand and that it would be unfair on your side that he left you hanging on air. now that he has told you his reason for doing such, the only thing you need to do is closure on this part of your life, and that means absorbing everything and try to accept what had happened and move on with your life.i know finding another love in your life won't be easy, and for someone who has given a lot, lost everything without getting anything in return, it's going to be really hard. i said "without getting anything in return" because it's not called a relationship if only one side is the one who's giving out. it should be two-way. i remember during our psychology class our prof read to us a book, i think the title was "the missing piece". i don't know if you have seen the book before, but it's about a circle with a portion of it cut out. it rolls on tries to find the missing piece. and despite this relationship of yours giving you that "cut out part", you should go on with life try to find your "missing piece", meeting other "pieces" along the way, if they don't fit, it won't work out and you move on.i hope you would be able to move on with this one and try to enjoy yourself and your life first. you need to give yourself some time out. take care and hope this one helps, even just for a bit.
  13. i kinda like most of it, except on the part where you see the silhouette of the girl lying. her background seemed distorted. you could have made it a bit simple just like the city background. it looks a bit distracting. the two galaxies at the sky seemed unnatural--you could have used two different types of galaxy formation, not just limited to the s-shaped.
  14. lol i'll try this one! maybe you should list people who wants to enter so as to end some confusion before you start the game. some people might be posting after the contest has ended. it's not like the Xisto anniversary where people can still greet a happy birthday even without getting credits anymore. anyway, just for some clearance i'll join.
  15. well it's your choice you could do it in the comforts of your own room, in front of the mirror (although i think you'd end up laughing at yourself in the process ). it's exercise! have fun. lol well you could tell your sister to join you
  16. you're right. what i did say sounded contradictory to each other. anyway, i got this from a website. so it means that you're actually using more muscles when you're smiling. which means this exercise would help strengthen those muscles that are necessary for smiling. i believe i should have said "it's easier to frown than to smile"; i used to believe that "the number of muscles used when frowning are greater compared to the number of muscles used when smiling." anyway, at least we get some closure on that.
  17. i use uTorrent to get stuff that i want. i've used BitTorrent before but i was totally clueless about torrents and torrent clients before so i discontinued the usage. i was introduced to uTorrent by my classmate in my database class when we did our overnights at their home. at that time i only had a dial-up connection at home so you could imagine the speed i'm getting when i download albums. if i remember correctly, the very first album i've successfully downloaded using a torrent client is the album of carrie underwood. i've downloaded it before using kazaa but i lost the copy because of the virus i got after using kazaa. when we subscribed for a dsl connection, the first album i downloaded was the live album of dishwalla.i don't know about the download connection though. i rarely check it. as long as i see seeders, i'm fine with it the cost of monthly dsl subscription is P999 i think so that would cost around US$20-$25, which is added to our monthly phone fees.
  18. well i put "current" because i know there are a lot of people here who are music lovers and i know there are songs that best describe your life as of the moment and as we grow older our perspectives change. so i'm asking everyone, what's the current soundtrack of your life. mine is "through the dark" by kt tunstall. my interpretation of the song is that the person doesn't know what would happen next and what to expect in her (i'm using the female gender because kt wrote this herself ) life, that she thinks she's clueless and she's "feeling her way through the dark".the reason why i chose this is because i'm in the time of my life where it feels like i'm starting all over again, that i don't know what i'm supposed to do with my life, where i'm heading to. i'd rather not go into details because there are some really personal stuff. there were lines in the song that really hit me hard and the few lines i like the most is "i used to talk with honest conviction of how i predicted my world. "i'm gonna leave it to stargazers, tell me what your telescope says"." i guess with life, the only constant thing is change. we don't know what would happen in the future, and if we expect something that wouldn't necessarily happen, we're only bound to get disappointed.what about you? what's your current track and the story behind it?
  19. don't smile that much? maybe this will help you.it is believed that you work out more muscles when you frown or get sad compared to when you smile. that's why most people advice to "smile" a lot, not only to enhance your aura and your overall physical look, but also to work those facial muscles out.here is one exercise i've been using for quite some time now. i've seen this on a lifestyle show once.first, you close your mouth and smile (without showing your teeth). you have to make it as wide as possible as if you're smiling from "ear to ear". then you count for 10 seconds. after 10 seconds, make an 'O' shape using your mouth (imagine saying 'O' with your lips pointing as far as possible). count for another 10 seconds. you could repeat this a couple of times just like when you're doing your regular muscle workout to train those facial muscles.it also helps give your face some "lift" and not make it look sagging.try it out.ps to the mods (please transfer this if it's not put on the appropriate subforum. thanks.)
  20. i'm giving my vote to TF. while i didn't like the fade-to-white part of the image, i like the detail more on it compared to SM's. oh and about kubi's? well hmm... i don't understand the image at all. sorry.
  21. well if you try and prevent yourself from sneezing, the pressure would be built up inside your face and it would find other paths so it could be released, two of which are the eyes and the ears. that's why you would feel like your ears have popped or you feel sort of a compression on your eyes.
  22. it's a natural body reflex. the nostrils move and send information through the nerve endings in the nose. then the information is relayed to the brain, thus the sneezing.there are some myths about sneezing. in some countries, people believed that the soul is detached from the body when they sneeze, that's why they say that "god bless you" or "bless you" to bring your soul back. some believe that the soul might get snatched by evil once they are "detached"i would rather have asked "why do we close our eyes when we sneeze?". i don't know if there's a scientific explanation for this but i believe it's part of the entire reflex caused by sneezing. i think i have joked before to someone that the reason for this is to keep your eyes intact when you sneeze. because if you have your eyes open, it will pop out
  23. oh i have another one. it was during my older brother's birthday. if i remember correctly it was around 3 years ago. after my friend's birthday blowout to a movie, i went to the supermarket to buy the ingredients for the pasta i was supposed to be cooking later that day. i'm usually responsible for cooking dishes during birthdays or celebrations at home. so when i came back home, i started cooking the white sauce for the pasta. the sauce requires cheese to be mixed constantly while the sauce comes up to a simmer. i was watching tv back then so i just had to go back on the living room to watch. when i came back, the cheese started to settle at the bottom of the pot. trying to save what's left of the cheese, i had to scrape it and mix the entire thing again. what's wrong with this was that the cheese started to burn and since i've mixed it up already, the entire sauce had this burnt taste. i believe everyone who ate the pasta didn't gave any reactions when they tasted it. it was one of my worst cooking experiences. i love to cook that's why failing in such makes me sad. and to think that was during my brother's birthday.
  24. i agree with this one. but i admit that i've used tables before to design my previous blog's layout. i didn't have enough time in shifting to div's because school was becoming hectic. one of the websites i saw mentioned that nested tables affect the loading time of your websites. the rendering time of the page gets affected if your tables are nested. i actually have proven this on my site alone. even though i wasn't so affected by it, i knew i wasn't doing something nice. i guess that's one of the reasons why i shifted to a wordpress installation so i could start clean from there.
  25. it's called centripetal force. the gravitational force that acts on the planets comes from the sun. this makes the planets maintain that circular/oblique path around the sun. it's taught in science classes, in case you didn't know. while i agree that there's a planet capable of sustaining life, i don't agree with "mars used to be filled with intelligent life that spread some sort of seed over earth". if that even happened, i believe astronomers and people who study the planet should have found traces of information about that. the reason why earth was the one planet that was able to sustain life is because it is on the best location with respect to the sun. the energy our planet gets from the sun is enough to allow life to flourish. now if mars was the first planet to have "intelligent life" before earth, it has to be after the planets were starting to form and before the very first creatures that existed on earth. the word "universe" is the term that encompasses everything, from the planets, stars, galaxies. it is believed (assuming that the readers of this topic accepts the idea of the "big bang theory") that the universe is expanding at a high rate, with galaxies relying on their rotational speed to travel. maybe you're referring to "galaxies" instead of "universes". i remember watching discovery channel before i think one of their documentaries were mentioning that the solar system is spinning away from the milky way galaxy. so i guess in a century from now maybe we would see a streak of stars on the night sky. that would be cool. too bad one lifetime's not enough.
