Toolbar problem is really annoying. I have also seen many softwares now a days whihc includes MSN/Google/Yahoo toolbar with them. I think this thing is harmful for the software vendors instead of helpful. At least for me.

Thanks for your info but my site is still down after 12 hours of ticket booking. The reply I got from them was that increase your hosting credits at least 4 and your site will be up.

I am also having the same problem today. I have PM to you(opaque) but got no reply so far. My almost all page are html except one php page, one advanced guest book and only one single page of blog. But still I am suspended. Is there something wrong having with Xisto ????Please tell soon what to do????

If consumers are not aware of alternatives than it is fault of either the consumers or the alternative makers. How could it be the fault of MS???

There is nothing new in the article, there are a lot of articles of these type for Windows. The article is true but there is another view also which I follow every time.Earlier than Windows computer was the thing used by Scientists, Mathematicians etc but windows has made computers for a comman man. This is a great achievment by Microsoft. Yes security is the concern but it is good the MS is moving towards better security day by day.The articles last line "No Windows" is a dream seen by the write which is almost impossible to be true. Rather than I will like to "Secure Windows" in the near future.

dear rantsh, you are right in saying that there must be a link to the Xisto directory on the welcome page. Than I have make search for it and found that there is a link named Directory already on top of every Xisto page but it is not on the default "lite" theme. You have to switch to "ambience" theme for seeing it. I would requet to Admin/Mods to put this link on every theme not only on the ambience.

I always format and partition my disk by simple dos command. I found it very easy and fast. I don't think there is any need of third party software for doing this simple task.

I have always used the built in Disk Defragmanter comes with Windows operating system. I have never faced any problem in working with it. But if there is any disadvantages using it I would definately like to know about it. Please tell me if anyone know about it.

These types of tweaks are available a lot on the internet now a days. Although in this thread one or two things seems new but I would also like to know more about them as Opaque has asked so that I not do anything wrong to my firefox.

Adaware and Spybot combo is definately good. But I will suggest to add one more item in this list. That is Spyware Blaster, it will not search and destroy spywares but it will block them entering your computer at first place.But the most important feature for not getting spywares is to use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer, you will surprise by seeing the result.

I don't have a great knowledge of Perl or PHP but as far as I know Perl is the complete language and it can also be used in web scripting. But PHP is purely for web development. PHP is very easy to learn and it is a good and cheap alternative of ASP/ASP.NET/JSP server side technologies. I will choose PHP between two of these.

There is already a directory available at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ . In this directory any member can submit his/her website link. You can give small description about your website. I hope this is what you are looking for. Anyway my website is a Web Directory available at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ in which there are various good links divided into various categories. Any member of Xisto can submit his/her website link in my directory. But unfortunately I have minus credits at this time so wait for one or two days to be it functional again.

For me also Gmail is still BETA. There is also an invite box in my Gmail. And today I have found that I have 100 invites instead of 50. Have anybody else has found it???Anyway it does not mean than Gmail is in BETA mode or not. It is the best.

Norton always has problem with the system resources. Earlier I was running windows xp and using norton antivirus. But I was facing a lot of problem. My computer was taking a lot of time to booting. And the most irritating problem was to scan any floppy or file because it takes years for the same.Norton is good antivirus only if you have a lot of RAM as Retaining has said at least 512 MB otherwise try Avast or AVG both are free and good antivirus.Now I am running windows 2000 server on my computer and unfortunatley running Norton Corporate Antivirus because so far I could not find any free antivirus for server computers.

Very good information in this thread. Until now I was thinking that Sempron are better that Athlon processors because they are introduced later than Athlons. My computer is Athlon 2400 and I have never feel until now that I should take Intel instead of it but I have never used Sempron so can't say anything about it.

This thing bothers me also. But as far as I know both are same thing. Sometime ago word laptop was used very much but now a days I am seeing that Notebook word is more in fashion now a days. I will definately like if somebody clarify the difference between Notebook and Laptop.

According to szupie if it is true that after firefox 1.5 there will be no need of downloading the full browser everytime they will update , than it is very good . Dial-up users like me will welcome this feature very well. I am already using firefox since one year and I have never use IE after that. Opera is also promising but can't be compared to firefox because there is an ad in the free version and some sites also not displayed correct in it.

My computer is running windows 2000 server. It is 2.2 Ghz, 128 MB ram, 40 GB harddrive. As my RAM is very less it takes more than 5 minutes to be ready to work. I am totally frustred by it and soon going to get 512 MB ram. Earlier than it I was running windows XP and the time taken was almost same.

If you search properly you will find very good threads running this topic already. But for time being I would like to say that Filezilla, SmartFTP and ACEFTP arew good among the free ones.

Opera is the fastest browser it may be true, I have also feel this on my home computer. But the difference is not very much when we compare it with Firefox. Firefox has a lot of other features which we can't find in Opera. And the most important point is that some websites are not viewable correctly in the opera including Yahoo.com
