  1. You can also try Ad-Aware, although it requires a lot of resources (memory, processing time). Norton Products are also notorious for hogging resources. One thing to remember, the more protection you have actively running in the background the slower your PC becomes. So after you get your virus definitions up to date and things cleaned (scanned) you might want to consider disabling some Av/spyware services, auto updates, auto runs, or some of the less critical options for more performance out of your system - especially used pc/laptop(s). Like you wouldn't need an email scanner if you use email services from hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc. unless you use outlook or a locally installed mail program.
  2. This is the only program I've been using since it's early inception to it's long awaited update release this year. I also use magic iso, win iso, dvd shrink, autoflac, and roxio from time to time. I don't recommend WMP for burned music.
  3. Paint.net is for kids or people with limited computer experience/limited graphics. Novices.
  4. Yeah this sucks, try finding the software hijackthis, do a scan, and post your findings. It will give you some options to delete some bad entries. Also try Spybot Search and Destroy.I normally don't recommend a System Restore in a situation like this, but it may save you some time. Try it and let us know or try a manual method like the ones recommended above. I prefer the manual methods along with verifying with av/spyware full scans.
  5. It is probably hungry or thirsty. If it's an indoor dog, maybe it wants to go outside, stretch, and poop. Is your dog a playful dog or a watchdog? Some dogs have instincts. Dogs also have their moments and need attention, that's the way they communicate. If your dog doesn't listen, is adolescent, or has a temper, then maybe you need to get it up to date on the shots. This will really help with the barking. There is also medication for dogs too. Good luck. I have a Labrador (how ever that is spelled, spell check recommended it).
  6. What web browser do you use. I remember recently I had a client who was experiencing the same thing. The Anti Virus and Spyware detection software came up with nothing. It turns out something was wrong with the Internet Explorer. I knew she didn't have virus cause the problem started happening after a blackout. I could not pin point what files were missing or corrupted but believe it was due to the power outage and Windows XP was not shutdown. Since she was online when the power went out, her pc may have been reading or writing from the hard disk at that very moment. We updated IE to IE7 and some updates via Windows Update. The problem was solved. I didn't get a chance to follow up with what the errors were. Oh well
  7. Yeah post production with a +39 is probably easy to remove blemishes and other artifacts, but the processing overhead must be a lot, not to mention the time required when your are editing. I did a wedding in the evening with 10MP DSLR recently. The noise was adequate for the using an external flash+diffuser bouncing off the ceiling. When I was editing them in the PC it seemed okay for web posting and viewing on a monitor but when they were sent out to print they had all sorts of artifacts going on.I had to go back to the jpegs. Debate creating a new jpeg from the original or take the time with the RAW file (I don't have the best PC for handling 10MP RAW files). I then analyzed my work flow and tried to eliminate certain steps I did not need, don't go to bold on the S-Curves (cause the pictures were dark), and setup my monitor to closely mimics the color lab's output, I then had plan on compensated for the loss of sharpness and quality by introducing various types of noise before finally saving.I'm sure a higher mega pixel camera would of definitely helped provided I had a good post editing machine. I'd settle for any Hasselblad camera.
  8. I get a beer, spend time with family, go out and do something new, or do something that's borderline trouble with new people, play games or do something else that new to me (first time watching a movie, traveling, trying something new on a menu, taking a chance). In the end regardless of how positive the experience was at least I did something new, which is GOOD.
  9. Yeah, they have music tabs for people like me who don't know how to play the guitar. I learned Zelda, Castlevania, and Dragon Warrior. LOL
  10. I think this is good if you are troubleshooting computers that are displaying pop-ups to remove all traces of the internet threat. Some web hosting sites also recommend you flush the your DNS on your machine you access/update your site from when they are changing the ip address of a server of a domain hosting servers. It is not really necessary but it is an option every troubleshooter should be aware of. This applies to all browsers.
  11. You can also try other shapes, to smudge/blur. You can get different flame like effects. Then duplicate the layer and apply some motion blurs with gradient masks, transparent Gaussian blurs. When you think you have something hot do some large Gaussian Blurs for glow with different colors. Also if you like a particular flame or don't like repeatable work you can also mirror a copy and apply some transforms to it. Yup kool! Don't for get to add little flecks of amber rising from the flame. I might have to try this one on GIMP.What I would like to simulate about fires. Is the random distortions from heat waves without looking too artificial.
  12. Cool tutorial. To bad I use GIMP and Inkscape. Even though this tutorial is about two years old can someone who's tried this post a screen shot of their layers list with showing the order and what is on or off. I want to see if I can create something from this for a Halloween advertisement (Witches orb(s) or a pumpkin. Or like the ghosts from Super Mario RPG.
  13. Do you give away anything for free - like product demos, software, or reviewed hardware. Something like drawings or contest will get people to come and return as frequent visitors and help you get feed back on the site. Maybe offer something for people contributing/reviewing content.
  14. What is the latest Windows version for the Pocket PC(s) and tablets PC(s)?
  15. You should choose a graphics program that is comparable and compatible with your pc or laptop, offering a performance and responsiveness you can bare with for the type of work you are doing or would like to do in the future. If you think you may upgrade your hardware soon then you can opt for the newer software. Also keep in mind what resolution, color depth, frames per second, audio quality your work will be in. From small pictures to multi-track audio. You will consume copious amounts of ram, pagefileing, and time waiting for effects to process, not to mention the amount of space required to save the file at various progress points.More important than the features of the software is the creativity of the artist. His or her awareness and appreciation of art, photos, music, and design will better influence their work than the limitations of the program. When I cannot afford the next big thing, I usually refine my existing work flow, analyze, and do my research.Hope the advice helps.
  16. I tried this and it works. What I did was create a test folder and create some empty files within the folder with random extensions (eg. .txt, .ods, odg). It doesn't matter what the previous file names are or their extensions. Then you highlight (select) all the files you want to rename. Now click the File menu and select rename or press the [F2] button (explorer shortcut). It will rename all selected files leaving the file extensions intact. How the explorer chooses to rename the files depends on how they are sorted in the explorer. If you right-click a file while they are selected and select Rename, that file will be the first named in the list, the others are all named sequentially. This is useful if you'd like send/ some files/photos to a client and you are in a hurry ** Edit -- You don't need to do any kind of Shift or shift click between of anything. The only time the shift would apply is if you prefer to use that method to select a range of files.
  17. This a tip for how to Re-install the Microsoft's Office 2003 Trial software. This may also apply for the Office 2007 suite. This may also work if you uninstalled the Office Trial in a new computer after the grace period runs out and try to reinstall the Office suite but fail to get it to run because the trial period has expired. The following steps are a result of personal troubleshooting and testing the trial suites in my virtual sandbox (testing in virtual images, not trying to work around the trial period). 1. Uninstall the software with the 'Add & Remove Programs. 2. Remove all references in the registry at the following locations: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Registration 3. Remove traces of files at the following locations: Document & Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp Document & Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Office Document & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office * Administrator refers to the user account that installed the Office Suite. Also check the username you previous ran the office program from (the user profile you use) 4. Reboot the computer 5. Reinstall from an Internet download or an 'Office Trial CD'. 6. Register software trial via the Internet if you have a connection. Enjoy ** Non-Microsoft related: Try out OpenOffice 2.4.1, an open source productivity suite comparable and compatible up to Microsoft Office 2003.
  18. Another thing you can look into is a small external device like a universal box connector which accepts RF, A/V Composite, Composite, S/Video, and PC input, and has a PC output. I would imagine there would be boxes for HDMI now days but I haven't looked. Anotherthing which may or may not help is a KVM switch which also has video inputs for projectors. Unless you want to look up the pin outs for making a cable (might require time, soldering, and spare video game cable). I know the Sega Saturn had an option for connecting to a PC, I'm not sure about the latest consoles. The device I used to connect the sbox to the pc, using the SVideo setup costed about $29.00 USD about 5 years ago.
  19. I think that something that can suck (by gravity) all the free floating electrons from a conductive object (metal/electronic) would be a more effective weaponary device. Imagine stripping a country of it's ability to use any from electronic technology. I think that would take the EPM to the next level. But how would you turn it off -- easy just move it away. *nah* I'm just guessing.
  20. I think it could be a hardware issue as well. From your initial description, I sounds like you tend to swap out many devices as you need them via one usb extension cable which is plugin the back. Maybe there is residue build up on the metal connectors of some or all of your usb devices. I recommend you clean them with a swab and some alcohol like solution which will remove the oxidation. Lint, dust, oil from hands, and other air borne particles also contribute to this.If it is not oxidation then the culprit could be your extension cable. Maybe it is not usb 2.0 or performance/power rated. Could it be kinked in any way, stepped on, or rolled over by the wheels of a chair? Sometimes static charge also builds up within the cable or it receive interference from the other cables it is run by.If these are looked into and don't help maybe it is the usb ports component on the motherboard that is giving out or the solder is cracked. This concludes all of the most likely hardware problems that you might encounter.
  21. Have you checked your power? Maybe you should have someone check the power supply and maybe your house or where ever you are at (in the world). Maybe you need a power conditioner or UPS above your power supply to make sure you are getting clean power. Another thing, from your comment you made it sound like this is a custom built machine. So it would lead me to believe that it could also be the computer store's negligence (the builder). Maybe they are doing something wrong or are using new parts or incompatible specs. Maybe that's why it will void your warranty. You should ask them if you can watch them troubleshoot the hardware. Then you'll see if they are using new/name brand parts. It also puts them on the spot. After all you paid for it.
  22. Try one of those shower rods that adjust their length and tighten when you twist them. It is low budget but hey it works. Another thing, if you have several car fluids/car wash products, or emergency items you keep with you - then you can also try one of those plastic milk carton crates. They usually stay but when you load them up with the weight of you car products and it keeps your trunk tidy. Also it wouldn't hurt to find a tray or pan to fits inside it should any fluids splash or leak. Hope this helps.
  23. Here are some questions to get you started:Did you read the Manual book? There is always helpful information pertinent to your specific model. Some setting to check for are the CPU, Northbridge, and Memory Voltage. You may need to increase the voltage.Did you flash the cmos. "Do the jumper" for for a minute"?This should always work. Kind of like telling your computer you have just installed new hardware and to disregard the previous installed hardware. Sometimes with you might have to hold a key on the keyboard while you boot or when you leave the PC off for a minute, un plug it from the wall and keep the power button pressed in for a minute to relieve the pc of any charge.Has the motherboard worked before? If so maybe something might of happened during the handling of it or parts. Like static discharge or exerting to much force during installation of parts.Does your power supply check out? Most of the time when I people attempt to upgrade/swap out their motherboard or build a pc for the first time, they hardly look into the new motherboard's power requirements. Sometimes they hardware gives them a break and lets them run their components at a compatible level. Other times it wont even turn over and may even damage their new parts if forced to work with inadequate power.Trust me. I've had one of my PC's go out on me. But I think it was due to me installing several software which required a reboot, doing a 19 hour burn-in test with a 100%/50% processing load, and also flashing the bios with other applications running. Apparently my PC did not like that when I had to reboot. Oh well... I guess everyone learns a lesson now and then.
  24. You should offer hosting credits. I also have a question? Would this be work for higher or who would have the copyrights or credits to the work on your web site/forum?
