  1. I tried installing one of these codec compilations before. Everything was pretty cool for awhile. It gave me more encoding and playback options. Then when I uninstalled it because I didn't want to encode in just any codec by accident; that is seldom hard to find. That's when I started experiencing all kinds of awkward behaviors in all my media players. Even with reinstall of my media players and other software I still could not get the basic stuff running - like my mp3, wma, and other songs. Looking on the Internet and making registry entries kinda helped. It seem more worse than a virus and I really wasn't up for troubleshooting this kinda stuff, so I had to reinstall my OS. It was terrible and I lost a couple days. I'm not sure what the codec suite was, but just a lesson to the codec novices like me -- install at your own risk
  2. Hey I usta be a bboy back in the day. In fact my friends and I, though we didn't have a name, had a breakdancing web site. It was geared toward beginners. We had some moves we learned and some pictures of us at local dances. It's awkward now days there are all kinds of dance like movies. I don't know what my current gf (let alone my ex's) and kids would think of me as a break dancer. On the bboy game or design concepts. I didn't not know of any free 3d modeling software I can get my hands on back then. Now there everywhere. But I made some bboy 3d models using AutoCad R14/2000. But a game sounds cool.
  3. I got like 26 processes/258MB RAM on a Dell Latitude D600, Windows XP SP2. With Firefox running.I could narrow it down to "19"if I wanted. Or if I know I'm not going to need the Internet/network capability I can get it down to 11 processes /<90RAM.
  4. I have several computers at home. I got a small network, some printers, scanner, pdas, gps, portable players, zip drive, web camera, speakers, and heaps of spare parts laying around, a couple gutted out pcs, a troubleshooting bench, several laptops of various years. My first gf made a comment about me and computers. I'm not going to say what she said but it was something along the lines of 'me loving it more than her'. Well I guess I don't have that problem no more. My other gf's I've had since then are more in tune to technology especially when i comes to entertainment. Movies, Music, Internet, Games, Photos, Printing, etc.Well I think I've have my share of the computers. Some days I would spend 12 hours. Others days I'd only get 1-2 hours in. It seams like when I want to use a pc or laptop, or go online I can't and whenever I can... I don't want to.
  5. Ha Ha Ha... I remember doing that long time ago with Blizzard's Diablo (the first one). I remember I was playing for like 3 days and 2 nights. I ate breakfast, lunch, dinner, and had junk food too. Then the restroom too. But yeah. It was like the first game I bought and I had just bought a 5 speaker/Sub setup with Soundblaster Live!... cmon. It was cool. Then on the the fourth day my dad came and asked me to drive him to town and back (80 mile drive - oneway), Yikes! I really had to eat and drink to pull that off. I then came back home. I sleep for a 18 hours. *phew* Yeah that is interesting though. He died. Wonder what level he was on. (j/k) I could tell some jokes but nevermind. Anyway did you people watch the south park episode where they were playing Warcraft online? LOL now that's funny.
  6. I dont think the above graphic will work. Maybe if you enlarge the picture and make it sepia it would match better. Also the quality (resolution) of the bag and the poster don't match. The watermark is okay - it does not dilute from the product. Just make sure all you watermarks are consistent across all your image. On the website:It looks okay. The navigation is straight forward. You should try changing the font typeface. Maybe add some flash animation. If you update your whole web interface, make sure it something more feminine - softer colors, some gradients, softfocus, add some flowers or chic clipart. Models it would be nice if you had some young models posing with the bags or something like them walking with them/ sitting with them or something showing their bag accessories with their clothes.Maybe as a promotion you should email some of your clients. Ask them to take a few pictures with them and their bags. Have them sign a disclaimer that the photos they submit will be used online at your web site. You can then give them a discount or a promotional bag(s) for their trouble. :)Hope the advice works for you. If you have extra bags send them my way. I may find some models. :)Levimage
  7. I worked on some web site long time ago. I never used Flash at the time and Java wasn't really on that many peoples machines. I guess now everybody is using it. Back then I was what server technologies were available and what do you think the client has in terms of support for online technologies. Now days there are more interesting things online. You can get code from almost anywhere - like if your a member. A majority of computers now days can successfully render graphics and run fluid flash animation. On the Idea a of designing. I think if you learn joomla, understand the concepts of designing by modules (like legos) it would be really easy. Like I'd like this blue lego for my navigation, and these red legos are my main site, and yellow legos on the right will be for comments and advertising. Creating graphics is not only fun but can be time consuming. Then again do you really want that part time job or you think you'd have more fun designing graphics and editing photos.
  8. You might need to use a program called HiJackThis. Have it scan you computer. Then you are probably going to have to check your startup entries to see if there are think loading up that are out of the ordinary (not specific to your system or software you installed/use). Then delete the entries if it pertains to your problem. You might have to do some research to narrow down the problem. It might take awhile. A web site called Castlecops might have some resources for bad entries to look out for. It will take some time but It is work it.Then after that you might want to scan your computer with an antivirus software like AVG Free Edition', and another software for spyware call 'Spybot S&D'. When all that's done download yet another program called 'CCleaner' to remove unnecessary files and registry entries. Finally you might want to check your temp folder locations for traces of spyware, viruses, trojans.Last if you have XP/Vista you might want to get rid of your System Restore Points that may have been infected. (by they way It also helps if you disable system restore before you start cleaning up your PC. Many Online Security suites recommend this if their software installation has been compromised.)Hope this helps.Levimage
  9. 1) You can try getting another motherboard or what some shops/electronic outlets call a barebones setup. They're typically under $200 dollars. And you would get some a new motherboard, a compatible processor, and sometimes some memory. Other upgrade options would include a case and power supply if your new setup requires it. And then with your left over equipment, you can just move everything over to your new computer. You can save heaps of money in the long run or if you don't want to purchase that new computer just yet.2) On the the eMachine ad, It looks like they are selling dated equipment. You could take thoughs specs to another vendor, or pc shop can ask them if they have an equivalent model or if they can build a similar setup with their spare parts they don't need. You just may save more money or come out with a better performance pc. :)Good luck yo!
  10. Kool. What I would like to see again is the whole concept of 3d googles or something like that now since technology has improved -- remember the Lawn Mowerman? Yeah I used to own one of thoughs, Nintendo Virtual Boys, I thought it was kool even though it was only a red on black. Sad they had to pull it from the market. Now days we have wireless peripherals (no hinderance of cords, bluetooth), rumble packs (to simulate impact/turbulance), and motion sensors (digital cameras, Nintendo Wii), Higher resolution LCDs (iTouch, highend Digital cameras), more memory options (xd, cf ,hdsd), Global Positioning System (Garmin, TomTom, etc.), and not to mention new mobile processors that cooler, and Global Positions Systems (Garmin, TomTom). Right now there are also many wireless/cellular towers and new frequencies that are being utilized by the private sector. I'm not sure how the latest MMRPGs/Commando games work now. Realtime low-latency virtual environments -- and no I'm not suggesting anything like the Matrix.I would love to see all these new technologies in the new Next Generation Virtual Computing/Gaming. Maybe someone should scour the internet and solicit to R&D department of major corporations and form a new gaming committee, to formulate new standards and protocols for future gaming. I'm not all that bright but I'd love to be a tester more make some kind of contributions with ideas. :)Anywho, these are my thoughts,Levimagejust another dreamer
  11. A desert weed plant. Smeared transparent gel over clear filter & did B/W conversion in post. When I first seen some marco shots of flowers I was wondering if i could repeat this technique. Bare in mind I have to formal photography training, no DSLR, and filters. I uses a clear plastic picture frame and some Carmex (chap stick stuff). Sorry no KYJelly And, the camera I was using was a point and shoot. I wanted to make the swirls but I was not that good at it, the hot sun, and the temperture of my fingers also had an effect on the Carmex. So I just made random streaks across the plastic frame. Levimage photo.rcssx.com - Web site the picture came from
  12. I think the cameras are in the plus +40 mega-pixels now days. This of course would be used for high end fashion or commercial photoshoots for publication or marketing. You know like prototype vehicles, marketing campaigns, or any other project when they photography company can pass off the costs to the client who wants the photos taken. That's how I understand it.Oh yeah I'm using a 10.8 MP Olympus DSLR 'Olympus EVolt E510' (then again I'm not doing the math but I think it is only a 10MP, but then again it is has a 4/3 aspect ratio) the files are +11 MP in RAW and +7.8 MP in JPEG. I Like it. OH yeah
  13. I'm not that good with photography to add agree or disagree with the above statement I turn my photos black and white when i was to create a certain dark/uncomfortable mood or when i'm want to make a portrait stand out by varing the coversion process. As far as color i try to saturate the photo to make it more vivid and make minor adjustments with the curves tool to make blacks blacker and whites whiter. If it is a landscape portrait I wouldn't want it to overcome my subject so I might tone down the color a bit.
  14. Yeah, then we would have problems like the movie Spaceballs. "What's happen to his head?" "It's on backwards!" "I'm sorry sir, it must be a micro-mel-converter malfunction." "Well do something! This is terrible... why didn't somebody tell me my *ss was so big!" LOL
  15. If you can't uninstall it with the 'Add and Remove Progams' in the control panel, you might have to use another program like TweakXP, or another 3rd party utility like CCleaner to uninstall it an remove traces of it from your PC and registry. Hope it works for you.levimage
  16. Wow. If there was no internet!?! Sounds scary. Well here is my list1) I guess I would have to resort to old skool dating/courting methods. (Guess my weekends would be boring, except the fact that I would be leveling up my thief's & paladin's... LOL)2) I wouldn't have an excuse to fix computers, cause there would be no virus/spyware(s). Yikes! Then that means see number #3. (Oh yeah, i probably wouldn't have met my girlfriends - be in a +3 yr relationship and have a daughter... Okay I'm off the topic. :P3) I wouldn't get paid or make money off ppl would don't have time to learn about computer stuff. I would probably be stuck with my first pc.... a 233MHz Pentium MMX :o4) I would not be learning anything beyond the Discovery Channel/National Geographic. No online school/training (Too bad my crocodile man.. 'Look at thoughs choppers... yeah, that's a mean fella')5) I guess I would have to buy stamps and envelopes and subscribe to magazines... SHHHHH..... Not thoughs one(s), the computer magazines. :P6) I guess I would be an uninformed consumer, paying over retail price for a lot of items not to mention Tax. Ouch!7) I'd have a small music collection (Don't ask... )8) I probably really wouldn't be taken serious as a consumer, student, business relations. etc. (professional correspondence)9) I wouldn't have a web site and an excuse to kick back at the local Coffee Shop. (Luv the energy drinks and Caramel Macchiato's)10) I probably wouldn't know about Open Source software. (Adobe, Microsoft, and other companies probably hate #10 )11) I wouldn't have my computer gut i use to slouch on. LOL Just Joking :PMy list can go on an on and i can cite some examples for the numbers but I'm just going to end it here check out what's online :Plevimage
  17. GIMP Working with Text 1) Start a new image with dimensions that hold your text. Plan for extra room. 2) Text Tool: Create a Text. Type in a name or something. Pick a font and Size of 50 pixels. 3) Adding a Shadow: There are different ways add a shadow. There are many ways to add a basic shadow but some will result in your shadow being clipped on the edges. So I'll show you a work around. This would also Apply when part of your blur - or other filter - gets knocked off the text selection you apply it on. I've found out you can do two things. 3.A) In your text dialog, you can enter a line return before the text, add some spaces before and after the line of your text, and add a line return after the text. You can also set the text alignment to center. This is a fast method to make empty space around your text. This makes your text layer larger but might make it difficult if you use guides to align layers. - or - 3. Under the Layers menu, select 'Discard The Text Information' on your selected layer. You wont be able to edit the text so make certain this is the size you want. Now under the Layers menu select 'Layer Boundary Size'. The layer size may say something like Width: 337, Height: 52, add the amount of space around the text. So if I was going to add a Gaussian Blur at 25 pixels, I would need to make the width 337 + (2*25 pixels) = 387; height 52 + (2*25pixels) = 102. So I unchecked the lock icon, enter the new values, click the Center button, and finally resize. 4) Now make two (2) Duplicate copies of the layer (Duplicate button on Layers Dialog). You can rename the layer to note any modifications on it. 5) Now on the Filters.. Blur.. select Gaussian Blur (on the Menu). Select 4 pixels and click OK. 6) On the second layer. Make a second Gaussian Blur with a pixel of 15. 7) Make three (3) copies of the layer. Right-click the layer copy (layer dialog box) and select Merge down. Do this till all the duplicated copies are merged with the original. This shows gives a deep shadow behind our text. 8) Make a copy of the original Text Layer. Right click the copy (layer dialog box) and select 'Alpha to Selection'. Now that your text outline is highlighted. 8.1) From the Select.. select Grow (on the Menu). Select 1 pixel and click OK. 8.2) Now select the Bucket Fill Tool. Make sure the 'BG color' and 'Fill whole selection' is selected (on the Tool options). This will allow you to paint with the white to the entire text selection. Now with the paint tool click inside the selection. 8.3) From the Select.. Select None (on the Menu) 9) Now click the foreground color to open the color selection dialog. Change the foreground color to something like blue. Select 'FG color' in the bucket tool options. Finally select the background color. Paint the background blue. 10) Congratulations. You're done. You can save this as the native GIMP format (.xcf) or export to jpeg.
  18. This looks like the steps to one of those Alienskin plug-ins applied to a text. I like it.
  19. I would get a Microsoft Zune 80 GB - Second generation. I've owned a the 1st Generation 30 GB Zune before. I have no complaints. The new one can be had for only $250 US dollars, which sounds about right if you want music (mp3, M4a, aac, ogg), video (avi, wmv, mpg), FM radio, picture slideshow/viewer, wireless sharing along with a media player 'Zune Player', which is just an enhanced version of an their Windows Media Player. Full length movies take less than 800MB each so that's like, if you Zune player was dedicated to movies alone, you can have over 90 movies! ;)Don't forget the premium headphones, large screen, and scratch resistant glass so you don't have to worry about purchasing to silly looking skins/covers that make the iPod overrated.
  20. I guess I'll have to try them out. Another option I have been thinking of are the off-the-self programs which have options to export as web pages, create collages, and thumbnails.I know the size seems pretty small, I was thinking of going small then saving at high quality jpegs or saving large then using medium quality jpegs Using medium/default quality pretty much defeats the purpose. I was thinking of putting a transparent url watermark on them but my images are so small. All in all, I think I will have to invest more time in how I should best export an image for the web. I do work on all images at their actual sizes and do editing across various layers for printing as opposed to posting online.Maybe I should create some new processes or tasks with my work stream.
  21. That's very true about the 'if you don't use it you loose it'. I'm curious docdude, if you have came across any web sites where you can learn another language online or offline that is for free - where you don't have to subscribe or make any type of purchase. If so, maybe you can post some URL links. I wouldn't mind learning again.
  22. Hey CCleaner is a great program. I'd give it a 5/5. Not noted here are the various builds available for of it. There is a slim version (the one I use), and a portable version (for running from removable media like flash drives/CD-Rs), and the regular verison which might have an add-on like google toolbar. I like the feature where you can scan the pc and make registry backups before you delete. There are two seperate scans. You can do a cleaner scan (scan for files) or a registry scan. You can scan one or both if you like. Startup scans are possible. Another feature I like is you can specify what type of files and folders to check; therefore, giving you more control over your cleaning methods as opposed to other software that cost money. A setting which is not set by default which I turn on is the File deletion options. They range from: 1, 3, 7, 35 scan on files to be deleted. (with the newer faster SATA drives the setting this to 7 and above is not that bad). There are options for accessing the program. Start menu, desktop shortcut, Quick Launch toolbar, or integration with the recycle bin (right click). Updates are come out monthly or so. The newer updates supports detection of new software and offer minor bug fixes, which enhance performance. I recommend this software for anyone who is in the mood for troubleshooting and optimizing their computer/laptop. I is also great for people who like testing software and are constantly installing and uninstalling software. Like I said before I'd give it a 5/5. Levimage
  23. Yeah the http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ is gone. But I found a cached copy when I googled it. I then found out their new URL they can be reached at is: http://www.localhost.net.ar/. I think the web site looks pretty flashy. I like how every part of the web is a sub domain with it's own interface.
  24. Hi there. I need some web help. The reason I've chosen the Xisto.com for hosting was because of their free web hosting. Originally I wanted to create and host my own website - using my own graphics, design, and content. What I've noticed is not only is there a learning curve when experimenting with different software and hosting but the time required to create, update content is also time consuming. So I would like to make it easier on myself by getting my feet wet with a content management system. First I am hosting two web sites with Xisto. One is for 'computer consulting' and the other is for own of my desires 'photography'. I'm just on the basic package for now cause I haven't been posting as much as I would like lately. So give the fact that I have a limited amout of hard drive space to work with - approx. 20MBs - I still wanna manage both under one account. Here are my questions if you would like to help. Look at the both web sites for what I currently got going http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ for reference. 1) Since most of the Xisto.com hosting members are familar with Astahosting.com hosting capabilities, the Cpanel, and their selection of the sample addition(s), I would like to know from other members if there are any add-on technogies that would compliment the above websites and to better cater to the web viewer's experience in addition to making management easier on my part. 2) Do you have any success with the addons, if so which should I use.? 3) The CRM/CMS(s) versions and addon(s) fairly recent or would it be better to download the more recent distributions? (keep in mind the 20MB limit) 4) What are some good alternatives to creating accounts on other servers for hosting images and other data. So I can save on storage and bandwidth.? 5) If you have any other suggestions or directions about making the web site more interactive, that come to mind, I would love to hear them. Thanks for your time. The forums have been a lot of help lately. Levimage
  25. I just started this topic for all you what-if'er(s) out there. I guess you can type down what you would like ifyou had a what-if technology or invention. Would it a vehicle that runs on information. Some cool multi-functionartificial intelligent pda, virtual Internet made up of 3d halographics, some wonder tonic with healing effects.I'm not sure what you would like, I'm just greasing the wheels here. Of course I would like to see all thoughsprototype/concept vehicles come to reality. An a merger of Video console machines with office productivitycapability for at home businesses. I would also like a new storage medium like scratch resistant crystals/cubesinstead of BlueRay or HDDVD.Feel free to contribute to this list. Oh if someone's ideas has already appeared in a movie or something it is okayto point it out, cause they might have not known about it.
