  1. Even though this has been on here a while, I haven't ever come across it.This is a very good idea that I never thought of....yet in many ways it seems to make so much sense...Although isn't this somewhat how a lot of like forum and cms type software work? (Not all but some? Not exactly this concept, but some similar ideas?)One thing about this though is that it isn't exactly easier for the server....i think the php code will take it longer to process, so high volume sites could add load to a server that isn't necessary in all respects, so I am not sure if it is best to use this for all cases?
  2. I would say the idea of having games is not very good. The problem to me seems that a lot of the posts are going into the support area, and not anywhere else on the site. And in other areas the topics are just repeating themselves over and over again, and new ones are not being generated.I'll take a look at the categories (i don't know if new ones are necessarily needed, but maybe just renaming some....as some of them seem to overlap quite a bit and make it hard to determine where a post should go)
  3. Well I have been here at Xisto a while now, and after being a member of the forums, there just seems something about them that doesn't quite make them as enjoyable to be in.To me it seems like the forums contain a lot of posts that are very repetative, even many topics that seem to repeat themselves... To me it seems like maybe there should be some more moderators, and the moderation should be stricter than it is.I just don't find it as fun to participate in a community where a lot of the posts seem to be spamish...Does anybody else feel this way?
  4. I think I have seen tis before, but still some nice effects there....Although creating the effects exactly like apple does it, doesn't seem the most innovative, so maybe if you change them a little bit from that, it'll seem a little more innovative, and look slightly more professional....instead of just like a copy. (just a suggestion to people who are going to use these effects places)
  5. Yes that is correct, you do have to have somebody else restore your backup. What i would recommend in the future is doing a home directory backup, as well as a mysql backup, and the other backups as well....that way you can just restore those backups in cpanel and you don't need the assistance of somebody else.
  6. I also would recommend ubuntu. It is probably one of the easiest to install (although many are very easy to install), and it seems to support a ton of hardware out of the box that many other distros seem to have trouble with. So if you are looking for support for your computers hardware, then I would go with ubuntu. It'll just plain work without having to do a ton of tinkering...
  7. I would like to present another option for you here...You could always use a bbcode engine from forum or blogging software if your website has those on them...it would be as simple as including the files necessary to have the functions to parse bbcode (just make sure you don't violate any copyright restrictions there, and that you give proper credit). But that is what I have done with my website and it seems to work really well for me....
  8. Well this may work for some people...however if you are connected through a network LAN or if you have a static IP address, this isn't going to do anything for you...when connected to an internal local area network you are going to just get a new local IP address, but not a new public one...so i guess if you are having problems with your IP locally then that might offer some help...As for a static IP, this isn't going to make any difference for that, you'll either get an error or end up with the same IP address.
  9. Well I am guessing it will be a number of years before we see anything like this come into use....But keep in mind...the more we keep cramming onto all of these discs the more and more fragile that they become....Just think, a lot more data is in a lot smaller space, meaning one little tiny scratch that used to not cause too much trouble will all of a sudden be like a Gigabyte of data gone....So I am not so optimistic about storage such as this for a while, unless they have some way of protecting it from scratches...like enclosed in cases or something...
  10. I haven't ever heard of firebird....Is this something that is new, or has it been around for a while now?
  11. I too agree, and agree with the bold lettering....the bold lettering should be saved for bringing attetnion to a particular word or something in a post, not for bringing a whole post out....
  12. I am not exactly sure I get how this is different from something else such as Filezilla?
  13. I would say if you have a fairly decent machine, it isn't going to make a difference...for instance, with my 2GB of RAM....it doesn't do a thing for me...So depending on the computer's specs...i would say, don't worry about the Readyboost feature...
  14. Yep, I also don't think i'll be getting that number of credits any time soon....I have enough trouble getting enough so that I can keep my hosting active, let alone build any extra credits up for use on something else. (such as a domain name)
  15. With regards to just using ftp and not cpanel....i acutally don't use the cpanel file manager at all...I usually use cpanel for e-mail (because i don't get many and don't want them coming to my outlook client), and also for checking stats and such...and it just is harder to navigate through the rvskin (at least to me it seems that way), and I would prefer the standard cpanel one.
  16. I too think this looks like a fairly nice wallpaper....the design is nice and everything...But that bright white spot is a little hard on the eyes (maybe darken it up slightly to ease how it looks on the eyes in order to make the wallpaper blend into itself a little more...
  17. I too agree with xboxrulz and must say that a slow loading page on a dialup modem (that is 28.8k which is even older than the 56k that has been used by most dialup people for a long time now), isn't a mistake...Now true you do want to watch the amount of images and the size of them so that it doesn't take too long to load...but I don't think that having a couple of images so that it takes 1-2 minutes on a 28.8k modem is going to affect the site too much....because most people these days seem to have a high speed connection, in which case the page will load instantly. Also, many times a slow loading page isn't that of the web designers fault, but rather the server...if the server's connection is overloaded then it is very possible that it'll take forever for a page to load even though the page itself is designed rather well. Also one other thing, if you have 100 graphics that are 10k...that adds up, thats 1000kb....in which case it would be better if the website had one graphic that was 100k. And so I think it would be better to look at the total filesize of all images combined...and come up with a total that it shouldn't be more than based on the desired load spead on a certain connection speed.Anyhow that is just my sort of little bit off of the filesize thing
  18. That looks impressive, but what in the world would you do with all that space?I mean I have trouble using up the 100GB that I have right now....I suppose though if you are using it for video editing (tried doing that and had issues with hard drive space), then maybe it'll come in handy....But I would wait a long time for the price to come down on those things....and honestly even so I would probably be perfectly fine with a much smaller hard drive for a while yet, seeing as my 100GB has been sufficient, and still is sufficient...so 10x that storage probably won't be necessary for me for a little while yet.
  19. Well mine is only about 2-3MB all text...so I guess almost everybody beats me there...Guess I don't have too much in my databases, just some forums with not very many posts, and that is about it.
  20. I would also lean on the side of that it is users trying to disguise themselves as using IE for their browser for terms of compatibility. I have done it several times myself due to websites that say something along the lines of 'to view this webpage you must use IE', and yet I know the website will work perfectly fine in another browser...So I have done this, and yes often times it uses an older version of IE for telling what it uses (as xboxrulz has said above). But yes it is also possible that there is a spam bot of some sort....It really could be almost anything really....there isn't any 100% way to tell exactly what it is.
  21. Well I know that MySQL databases can get rather big, so I was just wondering how big everybodies databases were? Do you have really big ones, or are they relatively small? Also what do you store in them? (just text, or binary data as well)
  22. Well, i can't wait to see what kinds of things happen with this (too bad it ruins some of the magicians tricks now....they'll have to move on to some other things in order to make it more impressive...otherwise it'll just be something that can be done with science)...Maybe some special effects in movies will start to use this sort of thing? I don't get what the practical use of this would be...
  23. Well I am going to stick with Xisto for a couple more months probably, see how all the services work out...and then make my decision about switching to Xisto - Web Hosting or using another host...
  24. hmmm...that seems like a strange measure to take....not to mention, i still don't get why microsoft doesn't allow you to transfer your windows copy between different computers....I mean I think we should be allowed to take windows off of one computer, and move it to another one. For instance, say I purchase a copy of windows for my computer, and then later I decide to get a new computer. Now if i am getting rid of the old computer...wiping it out, maybe putting linux or something on it...shouldn't i be allowed to take that copy of windows and put it on the new computer? That is one thing that doesn't make any sense to me...Also, might I add that the link you posted doesn't work for me....
  25. Well It works fine for me now, but it seems to be an intermittent problem....I was really thinking of going to the paid server in a few months...but now I am not so sure due to these outages...not sure if my site is going to have the same fate there or not...Now I am going to wait a few more months....and see how things go, hopefully though I'll be choosing to go with Xisto - Web Hosting...i guess it all depends on how things go for the next couple months.
