  1. It worked for me. I don't really like the way the files are named : file(1).jpg, file(2).jpg because I don't love parenthesis inside a name, but it's OK for wiewing pictures with the Windows image viewer.
  2. I would'nt express it that way. Once it works, I would make a backup and keep the thing working that way. If it happens stop working after an update or after a software change/install, I would come back to a previously working backup.I see no need updating a driver as long at the device is working correctly.
  3. You don't really burn the VOB and the IFO files. One popular way of saving a movie is copying the whole content of the DVD in a folder of hard disk. Just look if you have a player able to to directly play the movie off the external HDD. If your player is able to play the movie off your external disk, with any burner you create a data disk and choose the whole folder (with the VOB and IFO files), and choose something like "create a data disk without conversion". Probably your burner crashes because it tries to create a video disk with compression conversion, which is usually too hard for the burner programs. Same thing if you want to burn mp3 files, you must burn them as "creating a data disk", and not as "create a music disk", else the burner will try to expand the compressed mp3 files and they will not fit inside the burned CD size. Of course, remember, you are legally allowed to burn a DVD when you own the original DVD movie. If there is a control and you cannot prove that you still owe the original, this is against the law in most of countries, and it's against our forum rules to talk about this here.
  4. I don't see any "system link on d left side" on the left side, when I type type gpedit.msc.. All I see is "Local Computer Policy", which subdivides in "Computer Configuration" and User Configuration". Where should I a "Turn off autoplay" ? By the way, which Windows version are you talking about ? I tried both Win XP and Win 2003. Regards Yordan ---------------- P.S. You probably noticed that I moved your topic out it's initial place. That's because the the first rule of our tutorial section :
  5. What do you want to do exactly ? Why do you need backtrack3 ?If it's just for network testing, use backtrack3 as it's supplied, without installing extra things like VLC.If you want to do something else, maybe you should try another live Linux distro ?Of course, if you really want to do it, have a look in some slackware tutorials in order to learn how to install VLC in a slackware distro.
  6. Yes, I confirm that FileZilla does this automatically. If you start to transfer a lot of things inside an empty directory, FileZilla will retry each failed transfer until it's successful, or you will see at the bottom the "too many retries" failed transfer, and you click on each one and you choose "restart". If you work on an existing folder where some empty files already exist, have a look at the general FileZilla options and check "replace" for any existing file, this will replace each file (faulty or not) by the correct file.
  7. Of course, Xisto has script installer. Yes, the Fantastico menu at Xisto automatically installs the smf forum. Simply, if you look at the starter post in this topic, you will see that Running With Scissors wants to install the last beta version, instead of the current version. That's why he has to do the things manually. I see two reasons for doing that : your learn more when you do everything by yourself, and it's funny to see the new features in the new beta version. However, you are right, using the Xisto script installer is safer and easier because the scripts are all tested and work fine.
  8. Nice tutorial, you are right, thanks for the info. The author is fantastic. I love his KISS concept.
  9. If you use FileZilla, you will have no problem with the data connexion : FileZilla will retry each failed file until successful, and will overwrite the empty files.
  10. You first need to have sendmail for windows, I have found one here : http://glob.com.au/sendmail/ I will try it and see how to configure it, should be simple :
  11. A lot of people use css sheets. It's a way of formatting your web pages layout, without having to re-define your page layout in each html file.If you don't like it, of course, you don't use it. I don't use it, and my pages are not so nice as other people's pages are. If you want to do ugly things, write down your html pages all by yourself. If you want to have something nice, professional-looking, you buy a nice css layout or you choose a free one or you ask a friend to create one for you.
  12. You really must put FileZilla to work. It has the features you need : restart each aborted file transfer, leaving you a general "OK" or a list of file transfers needing to be restarted. The best thing is, in FileZilla settings, to create a site (you name it Xisto), with a "standard" user, give your Xisto username and password. Then, read the connection error messages, very often the error is due to a wrong password, check your username in the site settings and correct your password.
  13. My trick will work invisibly : once a script is able to work, then this script can be put in c:\autoexec.bat or in the other Windows auto-start features. The main problem I see is coming from the following message you received : This means that sendmail is not fully installed on your PC. It works, but locally only, it has to be configured in order to mail to remote domains.Yordan
  14. OK, now we have one part of the info : 1) You want a message to be sent by mail to a single person.2) It's a Microsoft Windows XP machine.Next question : is it for your home or is it for professional purposes ? (Which means can you buy something). My script still works, but, unlike Linux, Windows does not have a built-in mailer. So, let's first have goggling time to see if there is a free version of mailx for windows. Unless somebody here on the forum already has it.Yordan
  15. I think the question is simpler than that.High energy physics need high energy accelerators. So, it's normal, when upper energy limit is reached with a given machine, scientists guess that they should be able to learn more with a higher energy machine. And, of course, when public money is involved, it could be smart to explain simply what is the result which can be expected from this device. If a scientist says "I would like to verify the current theoretical model describing carbon 13 by means of impulsing high energy to some tiny pieces of charcoal" nobody would be interested. But if you add "using the time reversal mechanism in the transfer matrix this could explain the behavior of the original thing some picoseconds after the big bang" this sounds very interesting for a lot of people. And if you add "some of the collision fragments will behave like black holes" you win the advertisement jackpot.
  16. Looks like you want to create a tool for spamming. I hope not, because this would be against our forum rules. If you want to do this for a honest purpose, please give us some more infos. For instance, how do you want to do it ?Unix and Linux command-line shell can do it easily.Simply try this CONSOLE mail jurica666@hotmail.com <<!Hi, man, lookThis mail is sent unattendedwow! This tells Unix to send a mail to jurica666. The mail text is between the leading <<! and the end-of-task symbol "!"So, first of all try this, it should work. If it does not work, this simply means that your Linux mailing system has a configuration problem. If this works, simply put these commands in a script named "brol.sh" and run it.Then you can improve the things by mean of giving an argument, and then fire it from a list of destination mails.
  17. No, it's not the way it works. In current high energy physics, when something has one chance over one million to occur and you try one hundred million times, it will occur one hundred times. That's the miracle when very small probabilities concern a huge amount of events. What you are talking about is a probability of ten to the -24. If your experiment concerns ten to the +27, you will see one thousand events. If your experiment concerns ten to the +30 (less particles than inside the sugar you put in you cup of coffee) you will see one million events.
  18. Hi, You forgot to mention that this topic is copied from http://www.psychostats.com/doc/PsychoStats_Installation Please do not forget to put between quotes the texts you copied from somewhere else. Regards Yordan
  19. Seems that you forgot the third rule when writing in our forum tutorial : Did you see how I quoted the text I copied from the rules ? I expect you to do the same thing.Copying text is not really forbidden. Simply, politeness and honesty as well as intellectual property laws ask that you quote the text you copy and give the references to the original text. For instance, here, you should have said "This tutorial has already been presented by caf4926 on july 10th. 2008, see here : http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ " and quoted the copied part. Of course, quoted text gives you no hosting credits, but it proves your intellectual honesty. I quoted the text for you today. Please, next time, do not forget to do the quoting job by yourself. Else, we will think that you are trying to cheat with the forum credit system, and this makes some mods around here get very angry. Regards Yordan
  20. Maybe you want to create some kind of forms ? Then, the trick would not be trying to do it with tables, the real goal would be to learn how to create frames or forms with css.
  21. This states the big question concerning experimental science.A theory remains a theory until the moment when somebody shows that this theory leads to something you can physically reproduce.Everything we can guess concerning the way heavy particles interact, cannot be proven without touching such particles. And the energies inside the atom nucleus are so huge, that in order to study them you must use a also huge amount of energy.Of course, some people may think that this is a waste of energy. However, remember that you would never have been able to surf the Web on your PC, without the nuclear accelerators which are currently used in order to bury Argon an Phosphor atoms deep under the surface of the silicon wafers which are used in order to create the MOS chips for your computers. So, knowing how our Universe is made allows us to interact with it. And knowing how to interact with the Universe costs a lot. Do we have money enough is another story, but yes, it's useful. A simple way to know that it's useful, is thinking about the fact that a lot of nations put a lot of money in order to be able to work together on such subjects. And, of course, black holes really exist, they are the signature of the ultimate stage of a star's death. We know where they are, but we cannot go there in order to observe them because it would cost a lot of time in order to go there, and a lot of energy in order to be able to survive and come back. And far less energy in order to try to reproduce the phenomena here. And, of course, it's dangerous, but... it's a very small phenomena which will last some picoseconds. So, yes, danger, but less danger than allowing some children play with matches.

    Database

Probably your user name is also a1663202_gameDid you try connecting with PhpMyadmin in order to see what happens ?Usually, when kind people create a database for you, they provide you with :1) server name (usually localhost, but sometime it's something different)2) database name3) database username4) database username password
  23. Nicely summarized, thanks. As you say, it's your way of telling this, I like the way saying that very few things are really necessary in order to make a simple html page with a title, a small text, a picture and a clickable link. And I love the way to resize too big pictures just in the html tab syntax. I don't agree with this. In windows like in Linux or in standard Unix, I often use relative paths, relative to the index.html location. I very often use "pics/mydog.jpg" This is very useful for servers like Xisto, where you don't know the absolute path of your files, you only know the path relatively to your account home directory. Regards Yordan
  24. Please excuse a newbie in this field, I'm interested in learning how to make animated gif's.Do you mean that during the animation, the frame Frame0001 is first shown, after that Frame0002, Frame0003 ?You also say that there is transparency effect, does that mean that you see all the layers at the same time ? Or do you see Frame0001 under Frame0002 only if you use the eraser ?RegardsYordan--------------P.S. Talking about young school children, could you please edit your post and correct your mistyping ? For instance replace "how to prepate them" with "how to prepare them"
  25. Hi, You posted this topic in the "tutorials" section of our forums. It seems that you missed the first specification for the topics in this section, see here http://forums.xisto.com/topic/6-forum/ : That's why I moved your topic here, where is most probably it's place.By the way, maybe you should have a look here : http://forums.xisto.com/topic/96022-topic/?findpost=1064393296 Regards Yordan
