This hard drive has been doing well for years...But there are times when I want it to perform some task faster (like data transfer when I backup my files). I will definitely go with the 5400 one. Don't need 100GB of space, just 60-80GB will do :PThe fan is the cooling one from the side. It spins every 15 minutes or so. Doesn't matter what I'm doing ...but usually I'm just browsing and IMing. Thanks again for the replies. I'm going hard drive hunting now

Nice short "guide" sid.calcutta. I actually do something similar in my forum already and it's right around the area where you mentioned in the first code sample. There is an easier way to do this now though. Get the Ad Management Mode from SimpleMachines here. It will insert the ad in up to 3 sections in the forum.

Make sure you have the latest update for that Firefox Flash extension (if it was indeed a plug-in from the Firefox extension site). To check, go into Firefox->Tools->Extensions and click on the Flash entry (if it's there, if not, then you most likely have the Flash player downloaded for Firefox instead of the extension). Does it say anything about not being compatible with this version of Firefox? If it does, click on the Find Updates button and see if there are any available updates for this new version of Firefox.

Thanks for the additional info on this roggle. I still haven't decided to get one yet or not. I will compare the prices with the 7200 RPM drives and the 4200 ones to see if it's worth the upgrade. The fan spinning is a moderate annoyance...but I guess I'll have to deal with it until I get a new laptop. The weird thing is that sometimes when the fan spins, I can hear that abnormal spinning sound. Seems like it might be spinning too fast...I backup my data frequently, so this shouldn't be a big problem. If it breaks down on me, I'm sure to get the 5400RPM drive at least...and a bump in the hard drive size too

Depends how much activity you get. Actually a forum can basically be "run" by its members. You don't even have to post anything, just maintain it. You will need a webhost and the forum software (in the case of Aboho, they are using vBulletin - a paid/subscription forum). I suggest using a free forum like SimpleMachines to see how things work out first before you dive into the commercial forums.

My cousin's computer seems to have a bad VGA monitor cable. The problem is that when I turn it on, it seems to be ok, it says auto-configure....then it goes blank (orange light on monitor power button). I looked at the VGA connector pins and see that pins 4 and 11 are missing. Just to be curious, I looked at the end connected to the LCD and it's also missing pins 4 and 11. Is this a coincidence? From what I found, these are what it corresponds to: 4 ID2 Monitor ID Bit 2 11 ID0 Monitor ID Bit 0 Is this responsible for the shot display and then blank screen? I'm sure it's not the computer itself because I did use another LCD monitor and it worked without any problems. Funny thing is that on that one all the pins are intact. The same exact missing pins on this LCD (the one with the blank screen) is what got me scratching my head. No pins seem to be stuck on the connecting ports... Can I get any VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15) type connector? I did a search and found some on eBay but they don't look like the one I have now (black cable with blue VGA connector on both ends). The one I found says it's Male to Male 15 pin D-Sub connector though (whole thing is black color). This is my first time changing these so I don't want to buy the incorrect cable. This should be the exact monitor they have (only black color) - site I have one more quickie...question regarding DVI adapters. What is the main advantage of using these as to regular VGA instead? Better resolution? Thanks.

Just one more question. I was looking around and see that they have music videos to download to the iPod. Can I use my own videos/movies on the iPod? Either from DVDs or AVI files?

OK, just one more question on the AAC format. If I want to keep the MP3 format when I copy from the iPod to my laptop, I would have to burn those AAC files to a CD and then rip it off as MP3 files right?Always had the money to buy an iPod but was being cheap and didn't want to shell out all that dough Thought it was time for a change...

I'm starting to give in and go with an iPod also after all these years...I just have some questions before I consider buying one. 1. I want to get the iPod that supports video also, but not exactly sure which ones have it. On the Apple site (here), it seems like the only one that has video is the 60GB version. Is that correct? Does the 30GB one feature video playback also? Then I looked in the Recertified section and took a look at that 60GB and no where in the Learn More section does it mention anything about video. So how does one tell if I want to get one of the recertified ones? 2. OK, I read all this about the AAC format, but now, it seems we can store MP3 files in the iPod and play them right? I have many songs ripped from CDs and don't want to go through the hassle of figuring out a way to do this in AAC (if that's even possible). First time getting this, so hopefully it will be a great experience. Let's see what the hype is all about Thanks.

XP Accessibility Problem - Can't Undo Changes...
WeaponX replied to WeaponX's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Everything is fine now...I got it sorted out. I have no idea why this worked, but I killed explorer.exe and then launched that process again and it seems to have restored my settings back I restarted and shutdown already before I did this and none of it helped...I guess it's just one of those strange ways Windows works. -
It's one of those non-popular name brands I got a few years ago...It's a Prostar 6194 like the one shown here. It's not the same specs as that one though (probably upgraded to current technology trends).

How To Display XX Users Online On Your Site ?
WeaponX replied to valcarni's topic in Websites and Web Designing
For the code that szupie posted above, what path should I give it? I don't think my webhost have a dedicated server running...probably a shared. Probably redundant question, but just to be sure, will this count all the visitors in the whole domain/site or just the page with the code in it? -
Use Hdd On Another Different Computer...
WeaponX replied to WeaponX's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Thanks...I was just trying to do this the "lazy" man's way. Didn't want to spend too much time at the site to reinstall Windows if I could install it at home and just bring in the hard drive (new hard drive) :oI have all the drivers for it (Dell Optiplex GX1 - yeah it's old), but will do it from scratch at the site since, as expected, it might be a headache if done on my machine. -
Hope that "loose" sounding part inside is normal like you said I'm sure an external will be a cheaper solution as I have 3 of these already (use external enclosures on my IDE hard drives ), but I want to get a bigger HDD for this laptop so I don't need to constantly move my data to the external when it's full. I install many test programs and also have other multimedia files on it... The HDD I have is a 30 GB Toshiba (MK3017GAP). Thinking about getting a 80GB HDD... I did a search and found conflicting information. One site mentions this Toshiba HDD as having 7200 RPM, but another site says it's 4200 RPM. Which is correct? My laptop fan spins a lot, so I'm thinking it may be 7200 RPM but the speed the data is transferred, it's steering towards 4200 RPM land LOL.

Today I opened up the laptop and took out the hard drive. There seems to be something loose in there. Could it be the arm that reads the data on the hard drive's platters? I didn't shake it, but just turned it over and heard a little moving piece in there. Any hard drive testing programs out there that I can use? This makes me ask another question. Are all laptop hard drives the same? I'm planning on getting another one for this laptop if I can. This laptop has a 2.0 GHz processor with 768MB RAM (added 512MB myself). Any limit on the max. HDD space I can get for it?Thanks.

I want to install Windows 98 on a new hard drive (on my computer) before I connect it to another computer (a site I need to go to). Will the motherboard drivers (etc...) automatically be adjusted accordingly so it works on that other machine? My PC's hardware will be different from the one at the site. I just want to know if the hard drive will bootup and work properly when installed on that other computer. I won't install any other drivers until I get to the site...Thanks.

Try downloading this zip file. Unzip it and then run that .bat file inside to see if it restores the EXE file extension.

Quick Questions About Networking (LAN) Glad I saw this forum : )
WeaponX replied to Snicker's topic in Computer Networks
I don't know much about xbox live, so see if anyone else can answer those questions related to it.If you are only talking about transferring data inside your own network (computer to computer), then yes, wired is faster that wireless. Wired goes at 100mbps and wireless will depend on what hardware you are using.Don't know of any special adapters that will limit what you can send out. I don't think such a thing exists. Might have to do it software-wise.Wireless networking will require a wireless card for each computer. You can get a PCI wireless card or one of those USB wireless adapters if you don't like opening up your computer. The speed you go online at will depend on your ISP. In your case you said 3-6mbps. So that's the highest speed you can get through the internet (surfing, downloading, etc.). But inside your network if you want to send a file over to another computer connected to your router, it should be 100mbps (over wire line). Sending data to another computer using wireless will vary depending if you are using 802.11b/g or whatever other wireless types out there. 802.11b will give you 11mbps and 802.11g will give you 54mbps. They do have like an "extended" version of 802.11g now which supposedly transfer speeds up to 108mbps through your network (not internet). -
Hi, I was helping someone out and played around with the Accessibility options and now got myself into a minor issue. The fonts on my screen are spaced out a lot and it's really bugging me. How do I undo this feature? The last thing I did was go to the Accessibility Wizard. I tried undoing it by going back and selecting the smaller font size, but still no go...My title bars look like they have shrunk a little too...I tried doing a system restore, but apparently it was turned off due to the small space I have left on my HDD last time (forgot to enable it back ).Thanks...
-
You can try using a program like DVD Shrink to "shrink" the size a little (or by a lot...). What this program basically does is it allows you to choose what you want to keep and what you want edited out...what you want to take out are all the other languages there...English should be enough Subtitles might be there also and removing them should save you some space as well.

Same with what the other two members said earlier. If you know your html code, Notepad is probably the best way to go... I used Dreamweaver before and gotta say, it's good. Never liked Microsoft Frontpage that much. Dreamweaver costs like $100 I think. If you want to go with a free alternative, give First Page a try. You can download it at http://www.webdesignland.com/ As with most other html editors, you might get some "junk" code (unnecessary code) unlike using Notepad where you have full control of the code.

Since you are posting a link to the tutorial, it's best if you include a direct link instead of just posting the main page there...But yeah, I used those USB enclosure drives and love them. They also come in firewire flavors

Not sure what you mean there...are you asking for the command to open up the Run dialog box and Search window? I don't think those are shortcuts...probably just built in to run like that. As you probably tried already, you can't view the Properties when you right click on those entries. What do you want to do here though?

You will get different responses from this... Do you want to have a paid BBS or a free one? I will mention all the popular alternatives. SimpleMachines - I personally use this one since it's free and does what I want easily. It's included in Fantastico already, so you can install it directly there if you wish to give it a test run. Arabic language is supported. Logo should be easy to edit as well. Also, tech support there is free and usually someone will have an answer to the problem vBulletin - This is a paid package and is probably one of the most customizable BBS out there. It has lots of hacks/mods that you can install. Lots of settings to change. I would say that this is not for a novice user who just began using BBS. Price is not that cheap either, but if it does what you want, it's worth it. I adminstrated a vB forum before, so I'm not sure how difficult it is to change the logo, etc. But I doubt it's that complicated InvisionBoard - This is one of my personal favorites. If it wasn't for the price tag and some of the features it was missing that I liked (in SimpleMachines), I would have probably converted. This is also a commercial BBS. You might find it more friendly to use that vBulletin. If you want to give it a trial run, they do have a free version for users to use here. There are some limitations, but you should be able to get the feel of it.
