  1. The iPod is still kind of expensive if you ask me since it doesn't have all the other features that other MP3 players have. I think for around $99 you can get the 512MB iPod shuffle. But I can get a small MP3 player for around that price that has a bunch of other features (see previous post) that the shuffle doesn't have. The display screen is definitely important. I never owned an iPod before so I'm not sure how to turn off the shuffle mode. I did a search and found this site. According to what's said there, you should be able to turn off the shuffle mode.
  2. I suggest removing/uninstalling the drivers for that DVD burner and then reinstalling them. Right click on My Computer and go to Properties->(Hardware if you have XP)->Device Manager and look for the DVD burner entry. If found, right click and remove the device drivers. Now restart your computer and see if Windows detects a new hardware. If so, follow the prompts to reinstall the drivers for the burner.
  3. Go with the Acer, You won't be happy with the first two. Don't get Celeron confused with Centrino (which is a term used for laptops that have built-in wireless capabilities and has the Intel Mobile Chip). The first one is a celeron. Also made by Intel but it's the lower end of the CPU's that they market. The L2 cache (quite important for performance) is much lower than the Pentium ones. Avoid this one at all cost if you can.The second one could be looked at as a Celeron also but from the AMD chipmaker's point of view. The AMD Athlon can be compared to the Intel's Pentium chip. The lower class chipset for AMD was previously called the Duron, but now it's replaced with the new name called Sempron. Same problem as the Celeron, it has a lower L2 cache which means lower performance. The Acer laptop has the Intel Mobile Chip which should have twice the L2 cache as the regular Pentium chips (for desktops). If it doesn't cost too much, up the RAM to 1GB since it might be needed especially if you run XP and lots of applications. So basically this is how you would look at the chips by Intel:Celeron - the lower end chip (L2 cache ~ 256KB)Pentium (desktop CPU) - middle (L2 cache ~ 512KB)Pentium M - one of the newer chipsets that's great for laptops since they don't use up much battery power (L2 cache ~ 1024KB)
  4. I'm no VB expert but let's see if I can help you out here.Did you copy and paste that code into your Visual Basic main form? Just highlight the two sections of code that ViRuaL posted initially into your VB program. Then go to the GUI interface (SHIFT + F7 shortcut ) and add a command button and a textbox. No need to rename it since ViRuaL is just using the default names. Now run the VB program. It should open up a program with a textbox and a button. All you have to do is type in what you want to say in your Start button and hit the command button.
  5. Photoshop CS2? That program is quite expensive. GIMP should do also since it's free. If you want, you can probably try using services or programs that are created mainly for gif animations. I found GIFWorks and GIF Animator. GIFWorks allows you to create a gif file online and the GIF Animator is a free program which you can download and use to create your gif animations.
  6. I remember my first summer job. It was six years ago and starting pay was $7.00 per hour. I've been there for the 6th year now LOL. Pays increased by a lot but I really hate the job.Believe it or not, I hate it because I'm either doing nothing or doing something that's useless to me (photocopying, data entry, etc.). Just graduated with my bachelors in computer science. Need to find a full-time job in the field and get the heck out of that place LOL. Love the people there (it's been six years ), but hate the job.
  7. Microsoft AntiSpyware can be a big pain to use at times. I hate when it keeps asking if I should allow or block a certain change. This is worse than the TeaTimer program in Spybot (actually don't find TeaTimer much intrusive than this real-time protection from MSAS).I have to agree though that it's best to use more than one. I don't use a lot of these since my machine is pretty clean with the updates and I know what I'm doing LOL. These are the ones I recommend: Ad-aware, Spybot, MS Antispyware. If those fail, I usually go with a program called HijackThis and that should help me narrow down to the specific infection. HijackThis is not a program for newbies. Best to ask for help if you don't know how to use it.I think the new version of Ad-aware catches a lot of malware/spyware now. Microsoft AntiSpyware still catches some false positives as Neverseen pointed out. Had one user before that said it caught Firefox as being bad. That trial is only for the Beta (I think). After that, it should be a stable release, free for the public to use. Mr. Gates himself said this a few months ago.
  8. I haven't used NetZero for a very long time. Found another free program without the ads. But since then, I switched to DSL service. Is this really "accelerated speed"? From what I gather it's not actual speed increase at all. By this, I mean if you download actual files online it doesn't go any higher than dial up. It's only fast if you go to a frequently visited website. I think they cache lots of websites from NetZero customers and then if other customer's visit the same sites, the content itself (images, text, etc.) loads up quicker than usual (thus giving that supposedly "faster" speed). But I don't think it's good for downloads at all.Just my 2 cents

    Hello

Thanks for the welcome guys. This forum is definitely the best among free ones I found. I found others that do this also, but their cPanel is ridiculously slow, so I just abandoned it (also requires posting like this one). Can we use the free web hosting for testing purposes? Basically that's what I want to use it for. I assume we can since the stickies says we may post what we want as long as we stay active here and make quality posts.I have a site already (paid hosting), but didn't want to mess with anything there (not exactly good at databases LOL).I'm sure I will be a active member here as long as I can contribute to the posts here. So far so good. Will be taking 5 weeks off starting next Monday though
  10. Hi m^e, not sure if this is what you want, but take a look at this article from PC World. There is some registry edit and some changes to be made in the file associations.
  11. What's all this about Trillian ? I love this program, but do agree that it's bloated and can use up quite a bit of resources also. The only reason I'm using Trillian is because I have buddies using all kinds of IM's LOL. I think they have the whole package except for ICQ. I even have to use IRC now Having four separate programs up may not be the most convenient way for me to get things done. Actually having those 4 programs up (AIM, Yahoo, MSN, IRC) might take as much resources, if not more, as Trillian.Like the initial poster said, it's good since you can have tabs opened and it tells you when you get new emails. I don't need all the features for the individual programs. All I want is to chat and maybe some simple smilies :lol:I actually gave GAIM a try (a year ago though) since I heard it's open-source. Didn't like it that much. I forgot what happened but something was causing problems. So I'm sticking with Trillian. That's strange VJgamer. Now that you mention about connecting more than one account to the same IM system, it brought up my problem. I remember having AOL IM SYSTEMS telling me that I'm logged into another machine. It asks me if I want to sign out of that one so that I can use the one in Trillian. I said yes, and all is well. So maybe it can't allow the same account to login multiple times?
  12. szupie, I think the game packages that you downloaded should have the icon files included with it (assuming you downloaded your games from smfgames.com). You just need to put them in the same Games folder like the actual swf game files. What avatars are these? The game icons? If you don't want those, I think you can go into the Games folder (FTP or login to your webhost account) and take out (delete) the game icons/images. That should take out the picture.
  13. I use adsense and have to say it's a great way to earn money to support the site. I don't know what the $0.001 per click is about. I have quite a lot of visitors but not that much, I get a very modest amount that covers the hosting bill and much more :lol:Google doesn't specify how much each click is since they say it's not possible. This is because each advertiser pays a different amount.Once your total revenue (earned income from the ads) total up to $100 in your monthly end, you will receive a check mailed to the address you gave Google when you signed up for AdSense.I have nothing bad to say about AdSense. It allows you to customize it the way you want. The best thing I like about the AdSense is that it will deliver the display the ads that are related to your website.
  14. If you feel comfortable editing the registry and all, the link provided by m^e above should give you the solution. If you want a more automatic way of removing it, see if McAfee's Stinger tool can find anything. If not, I suggest doing a scan at https://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=1&q=hicro.com/&e=747 Set it to autoclean and try to delete all the infected files if they are detected. If any are not cleanable in the site, I suggest taking note of which files are infected and then deleting it manually.
  15. That 10GB Data Storage caught my eye. Sounded too good to be true, and figured there must be a catch. 8+ years I bet we'll have that kind of storage for emails by then. I do know of another free service that's "better" than yousendit. Try out http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I don't think there is any download limit. Upload up to 500MB and as long as it's being downloaded actively in a 30 day period it should stay up indefinitely. This definitely has to be one of the best service out there. Give it a try.
  16. I agree with the other members here. You really should try to key in on what you want to look for. Just the word pudding is very general. What do you want to know about pudding? Maybe the ingredients? If that's the case, you should search for something like pudding + ingredients and that should narrow down the search results. I know what you mean though. Google is having less relevant results. I read somewhere (maybe on Google site) that they will try to reorganize how they do the searches so that it will provide more relevant search results for the users.
  17. I've been using SMF for a while now. I started out with YabbSE and then heard about SMF and did the switch. Heard it's like a new version of YabbSE, but not exactly since YabbSE is still used.SMF was added to cPanel a few months ago I think. Either way, I think installation is very simple (manual or cPanel).Still learning SMF here even though it's been over a year :lol:Hmm. Trekkie? That name sounds familiar You from SMF I assume?
  18. I was just about to ask the same question that Hunguyen had but saw the post here.I will also be taking off for 5 weeks - starting from Monday the 27th.I guess I have to find some way to put up 10-15 quality posts for the 6 days remaining here.

    Hello

Hi all, I just joined here.Is it just me or is the forum slow loading now? Even on my DSL line
  20. LOL. I have the Creative Muvo FM Flash MP3 Player. That's a mouthful I have to admit though, without a screen display, the player is not that good.I never bought any of the iPod models before but did hear one good thing about it. Compared to the hard drive iPods and maybe even other mp3 players, the shuffle supposedly has better audio quality.Who needs a shuffle when you have other better alternatives My Muvo plays FM radio, can record FM and voice, transfer data and play music. The shuffle, well...can play music, but which ones, who know LOL. Maybe in some order?
