Eubonicode Yea, thats how my code rolls....
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Jeigh1405241495's topic in Programming
Yea I assume it would indeed be quite the undertaking. I haven't done any compiler programming (yet :| ) so I don't know exactly what is involved, but I would think it would be pretty intense. -
So I had read about this a fair while ago, but I randomly came accross a mention of it again and found it kinda hilarious and interesting so I figured I'd post about it since (to the best of my knowledge) no one has posted about it. Eubonicode is basically a final project of some students at Drake University, where they made their own compiler that uses ebonics as a basis for a coding language. As far as I recall it's basically just c with a different set of interfaces, but I could be way off on that one. Regardless I thought it was kinda interesting so I figured I'd throw up some examples of the code haha. sup{ gimme fibo ***** a be 1 ***** b be 1 ***** putou a ***** putou b ***** fibo be fibo widout 2 ***** slongas (fibo bepimpin 0) c be a an b ***** a be b ***** b be c ***** putou b ***** dissin fibo ***** nomo} sup{ a be 1 ***** slongas(a fearin 100) b be 2 ***** c be 0 ***** slongas(b fearin a) if (a videdby b time b sameas a) propsta c ***** fi propsta b ***** nomo if (c sameas 0) putou a ***** fi propsta a ***** nomo} sup{ gimme x ***** slongas (x aintlike 1) if ((x videdby 2) time 2 sameas x) x be x videdby 2 ***** ifitaint x be x time 3 an 1 ***** fi putou x ***** nomo} sup{ a be 0 ***** slongas (a fearin 15) putou gettinjiggywidit ***** propsta a ***** nomo} Haha, as you can see it's pretty out there. I was just thinking how bad it would probably end up if someone tried to make a more straight forward programming language to teach people programming using pretty much 100% english... I can see that making them miss alot of the core concepts heh. Regardless I just thought I'd share this with you all, hope someone finds it ineteresting heh. Lates.

Hehe yea that's the problem with these funky names, they aren't just randomly pulled from a hat. They involve stupid predetermined names so the non-technically savy need to figure out not only what the difference between bytes and hertz is, but also what these mega/giga/tera/peta/on/and/on/and/on mean. Good times haha

I'd just want one so I can stop caring. It's like... rip a backup of a dvd? Doesn't matter if you burn it to disk or keep it on your comp, not like the 5-8 gigs will affect your % used. Want to have every game you may play again a year or two down the road installed? Fine, doesn't matter. Want to rip iso's of every game you have so you never need to disk shuffle for game playing again? Why not. It's not a question of necessity, but a question of comfort :oPlus I mean I have about 300gigs of storage right now and I've been known to fill that up, so obviously I could use more heh. It's not that he's choosing 1.2PB because he thinks we need it, but because when he implements the new tech that's the most logical size to make it.Man if I could buy a single HD and never have to worry about storage again it would be amazing. Have like 20 linux distro's on it...if you buy a new comp or move to a new windows, just install the primary OS in a new partition and ignore the old, haha. Even with the huge drives we have, there's always the possibility of filling it up. For the price of a good video card in 5 years maybe we can stop worrying

Well I looked around at a few pages out of curiosity and the one that best showed how right our assumptions were (hehe) was at The Mind's Eye? A look at optical illusions. It doesn't go into too much detail, and basically says its unconfirmed, but gives a quick rundown of what is susposedly going on. It's not too long so worth taking a quick glance at if you are interested... and if anyone else finds a good link about this post it. I'm still curious haha. I had found a couple on other optical illusions, but I stuck to this link since it was about ones involving motion. Others like where two lines of equal length seem to be two different lengths are cool, but seem to be caused by the same thing (confused visual perception and the lack of a logical reaction to it before we 'see' it) and I thought the ones involving motion were more interesting myself.

Shiv, google takes so long to develope this type of stuff for various reasons... firstly we usually know about it far before it's actually "Ready". Like the gmail beta that lasted a year+. Most email services would simply have waited until the end of that period before even announcing it widely. Also, they obviously attract enough epople as it is without being 'aggressive' Finally if they want to keep creating quality services in numerous areas but be a little slower at it, fine by me Not that I've personally ever thought they were slow, seems like they release new stuff almost daily...but I digressBut yea, grab a gmail account then sign up. I haven't as I don't have a need for it, but I might try it out eventually just for something to do. Seems like a cool idea. I know other places have offered online page creation tools before, but I imagine google's version would be top notch (for free web stuff) and simplify the process down as much as humanly possible. While most/all of us assumedly prefer making our own pages since this is a technical forum afterall, this type of thing really opens possibilities up for people who don't have the time/know-how to create their own pages from scratch or learn various web languages. Good stuff indeed.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Initial Impressions
Jeigh1405241495 posted a topic in Computer Gaming
So I finaly, FIIIIIINALLY got my hands on my copy of Oblivion for xbox360. While I obviously couldn't review it as I've spent about 2-3 hours playing only, I felt I would give my initial opinions and open up a topic for anyone else with the game to rave about its awesomeness. In case you missed the subtle hint... the game lives up to the hype so far. From the beginning where the character Patrick stewart voices begins talking and you get to see the game world you are sucked in. The graphics are simply unbeliavble and the game mechanics are great. I'll agree with other sites that say the controls in 3rd person are kind of...broken. They are really loose or something, but sticking to the default first person renders you with a very tightly controlled game. The atmosphere is crazy, the ambient noises and graphical nuances are simply intense. As I said, it sucks you in and it doesn't let go. The customization allowed for building your character is also staggering. Make sure you are going to sit down and play through the whole first section when you start or it'll probably be even more staggering heh.I haven't hit much story yet because as soon as I hit an open area I just ran around for like an hour haha. Killing random creatures, finding little items, staring at the sun and the light as the sun moved in the sky and the gleam off lakes and and and and and....you get the picture. All in all, worth the money ten fold. I got the collectors edition which had a cool replica of the coin in the game, as well as a handbook to explain everything about the game and a dvd with a bunch of 'making of' stuff (haven't looked at that yet). One of the few times it was worth it to get the extra loot.I'll go into more detailed of a review once I get more time to play the game, but so far it's amazing. Feel free to comment, question, or drool. -
M$ is only using HD-DVD just for movies and whatnot because they realized it'll screw people over releasing it as optional... if they used it for games, then games WOULD become larger (prob) then the size of the old dvd's and require multiple disks for people without the hd-dvd drive. Also it would require more money to produce two versions of the same game. Plus there are more advantages then simply having bigger storage, games could make greater use of streaming data since the read speeds of a 2x bluray are like 50% greater then a 16x dvd, and they plan to release much greater speeds obv. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ gives a comparison of various tech specs between a dvd and the bluray disks. Alot of which don't impact anything currently but who knows what the next 4-5 years hold (or however long the ps3 sticks around). I don't know, personally I think going with a new gen media is the right choice. I understand that they "can", without THAT much effort, stay within the confines of the dvd medium and be fine. However why kill that potential? If they are trying to make these system excel in every way, sticking with dvd seems like they are just cutting off options.
-
True, however it is first gen 360 and it is a pc game ported to the 360 basically. Both the 360 and pc are currently limited to the original DVD media so why wouldn't they make it fit? I assume they want to avoid what used to happen with games before dvd's where its a handful of cd's to install it, especially on consoles. Also, even if they CAN keep them at a smaller size, as I metnioned, why would they want to? If they can simply move onto a newer medium and have better results, go ahead. Once the media becomes more mainstream the pricess will crash just like dvd's and cd's before it.

Read more at - http://arstechnica.com/uncategorized/2006/03/6433-2/ I knew it wouldn't make it out this year No one believed me, but I had a feeling it'd be delayed again... I wonder if that will convince them to extend the main support for xp... at least until vista (finally) gets a true release. Probably not since, as mentioned, they'll still take care of anythign critical for some time to come. <sarcasm>Oh Microsoft, how wonderful ye be </sarcasm>

Where did everyone get the 9gig number from? Everywhere I've looked still says 25gig for single layer, 50 for dual (and assuming you do your double sided thing... 50 and 100 gig) http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://www.blu-ray.com/media/ They're showing the media being sold as 25/50gig as well. SO this 9gig number is a random mistake on someones part. And xboxrules, so halo2 can fit in under 9 gigs... that was a last gen game. Blu-ray is intended for next gen. If you compare the size of a ps1 or n64 game to the 3-5gig halo that came out the next generation, thats a pretty big jump in file size. Wouldn't be surprised to see a similar jump this generation. Most games before dvd were less then 700mb (excluding big rpg's with a couple disks worth of movie files ). Larger media might not be a necessity, but it'll make things easier if they can not worry about storage medium size. They can put extras on disks if they want without worrying about if it'll fit, they can have higher quality audio/video without worrying about compressing it. Blu-ray sized disks might not be needed NOW, or for other mediums, but for next-gen gaming it'll be a help. I mean if games even half filled a dvd last gen, next gen would benefit from a larger medium.

I agree on the gimp. It really is an amazing piece of software seeing that it is open source. Free, as in beer, is always nice I've used the gimp a fair bit and like it, personally I prefer photoshop... but if you want to go the free route the gimp is the only real contender. I think you can eventually do almost everything in the gimp that you can in photoshop, it just seems that alot of things are more convoluted in the gimp then in photoshop.Regardless it is free so give it a try! Hopefully you'll love it. I know I still use it whenever I'm in linux and it serves my purposes easily.

On Why Java Is 'c'ooler! additions / criticisms invited
Jeigh1405241495 replied to shiv's topic in Programming
It really depends what I'm doing with it to determine which language I prefer. Quick little programs I prefer java but more intense programs that actually interact with the OS it's all about the c/cpp. Then again there are some things that annoy me about java even in smaller programs, like just i/o and file /io I find alot more intuitive with c/cpp. Really which language you prefer is all about preference. Persaonlly I agree with java not using pointers is usually a good thing, as they've caused me more then my fair share of headaches... but then again you can do some insanely powerful things with them when used properly so I like having them around heh. -
Lord Of The Rings: Battle For Middle Earth 2
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Burgin's topic in Computer Gaming
It's sitting on my unplayed game stack :oActually I just got ahold of it a couple days ago, but I've been super busy. Now I am picking up Oblivion tonight so won't be playing this one anytime soon haha. From what I saw it seems really solid though. I booted in and played for a few minutes and it looks pretty snazzy. Solid graphics, seems like decent controls (the basic RTS fair) so should be a really good game once I get to play it.Looks like it's going to have a strong Warcraft feel to it but with LOTR units heh. But yea, while I'm far from a definitive source of info since most of my opinion comes from reviews and a very short gameplay experience, I'd still say grab it if you need a new rts gaming fix. -
Someone I knew who was studying optometry once explained how alot of them work to me, but I completely forget Something to do with how our peripheral vision actually interprets and trasmits data to our brain in comparison to what is being ofcused on by the eye... whether or not that is remembering properly or he was right I can't say for sure haha. Anyone know for sure?Regardless, those are always cool... and i always immediately stare at the middle of one to make sure it's not animated haha I love em... although that one made me feel kinda light headed for some reason heh

I have no clue if this is even possible, but it seems like it should be so I figured I'd check if any of you guys knew a way to do it. I'm somewhat new to c++ so I'm kinda learning templates as I go for this job I'm at currently and my supervisor wants me to look into if this can be done this way.Alright, so basically currently I'm using templates to handle file handling for a bunch of custom file types we have in a piece of software (basically just different data layouts that need to be handled accordingly). Now currently I have it set up so the template is given a filetype class which allows the template to call the appropriate classes handling methods. That all works perfectly fine, the problem arises when I want to have a unified container for all these templates. Even something like an array would be fine I just want to be able to access all the files in a single container rather then having to pass pointers all over the program to these various files. Normal containers don't seem to be viable, however, since you need to predefine the class the template would use when declaring the array (Ex. a container of file<type1> will only be a container of type1 , not type2, type3, etc. I would need to be able to store like file<> and have it able store all types). It feels like there should hypothetically be a fairly simple way to do this, I don't know if I'm just unaware of a certain way of doing it since I don't know alot of the less common things about c++/templates or if I'm just missing something really obvious heh. Well, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Quest 64 or Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.... if you've played either you'd understand why haha. I can't even verbalize how hideously horrible those games are :|Other then them, almost all RPG's I've played I've enjoyed to some extent at least. Therefor, I'll stick with the two mentioned above.

A less sophisticated but quick and dirty way if you are using a CMS is just to make all of your pages content only viewable by people who sign in, and then set up your user privaledges as needed... well... I assume this would work. I've never tried it but since most CMS systems have user login stuff setup automatically it would make sense this was possible...

[ModVoiceOfDoom]Who Dared Vote for a non-Xisto choice?!?!?![/ModVoiceOfDoom]Haha, but yea personally I've tried Free, geo, 50, and asta... and I completely hated everything about the other 3. They had insane downtimes, horrible ftp quality, horrendous ads, horrible everything. Personally asta is only the second free hosting solution I didn't hate, and the first was pretty much a carbon copy of asta (similar post for ad free host type thing) but due to some legal issues and the subsequent lack of funds they went under. Thus asta stands alone in my mind as quality free web hosting.

This Guy Has Issues... Hes cut from the team.
Jeigh1405241495 replied to darkranger's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well, I didn't bother watching it as my comp here is a server rig (@ work) so no sound card... but I usually don't find that type of stuff funny anyways... I mean theres the uncontrollable quick laugh you get when you see something that's just really out of the ordinary... but once you calm down and think about what you are doing you shouldn't still find it funny. I mean, you are laughing at someone who'se lost everything to something out of his control. Frankly you should be ashamed of yourself for mocking someone who acts differently because of a mental disease...Maybe I take a harsher view of this type of humour because I've heard a bunch of alzheimers jokes and my grandmother has it so I've seen the real side of it and know its not funny. Maybe I've just gotten to a stage in my life where I prefer humour to not involve laughing at someone else's misfourtune... who knows...Oh and I agree that the reason no one stops at this type of sight is probably from seeing it so often. I know in parts of my city there are some homeless people with obvious mental problems that stick around certain spots, so if you have to frequent that spot on the way to work or whatever you'll see them almost everyday. Eventually it becomes just part of the walk/drive into work... -
Command Line Text Size looking to change it
Jeigh1405241495 replied to terminal2k's topic in Websites and Web Designing
In various terminal you can simply go into the preferences and select text size/ font just like is an option in most programs. You can make profiles with various size/font/background color/foreground color setups too if it would be helpful for him.As far as a magnifier, I'm not sure if this is a part of gnome generic or ubuntu specifically (I'm on ubuntu at work right now so checked here) and there are "assistive technology support" under system->preferences that have the basic things doze has (screen reader, on screen keyboard, and magnifier). I assume this is a gnome thing, and I would also guess KDE has something similar but have never really checked before. I know kde has an accessibility project on their site that is being worked on, so I would be surprised if a basic magnifier was not implemented.Regardless, there are options out there -
IOn order to have software thats 50-90gb, you'd need to have people MAKING that much data for each piece of software, meaning you'd be paying ALOT of money for that software :oBut yea this would truly be some awesome stuff, and the $750 price tag seems pretty genious to me. It's expensive enough to have a solid profit on each drive sold (excluding the research costs the materials probably aren't worth alot) and still have them start being sold by the millions. If he released petabyte drives for under a grand a pop, he'd knock the bottom out of the HD industry and bring down the competetors pretty damn quickly. Sure he could make as much money selling way less for a huge sum of money... but if he keeps it surprisingly low he won't have to worry about much in the way of competition Regardless, can't wait to see if this tech works as promsied.

I Wonder If Microsoft Stole The Design For The Xbox 360?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Joe2Chance's topic in Computer Gaming
Haha I can't see that as a "stolen design" from that dell slimline or whatever those are called. The cd's in the same general place and they are the same shape... but I mean that shape is pretty generic for consoles regardless excluding the edge styles. I guess both have a circle but again, these are kinda stretching for comparisons... I see the two as different enough. Unless they went really detailed with the design, anything in that general form factor will look similar. That's like saying all tower comp cases steal their designs from each other for putting the optical drives in the same place... or cars all steal their design for having the engine in the same place or wheels in the same layout It may be true, but its more of a necessity to conform rather then a theft.
