I haven't upgraded from 5.1 yet but probably will soon since it keeps popping up an annoying "OMGZ JOO NEED TO UPGRADEZ OR D00M WILL HAPPEN" every so often on starting winamp... I wish programs just told you once about new versions and that was it heh. I'll let you know if I notice any useful new features once I get 5.2

There is already a company that has a physics processing card either created or on the market. The demo's of the card in action are pretty impressive, they have decent graphics but HUGE piles of shrapnel, debris, people, etc being thrown around properly by explosions without any of the stress being put on the processors.I can see these becomming more common over the next year, probably with some big announcements at E3. Just increasing the horsepower and adding more cores to GPU and CPU's won't be sufficient, they need to start thinking of alternative steps to take if they plan to continue advancing games at the current rate. I'm really excited about the physics card technology if it gets implemented properly.

I just listened to the penny-arcade podcast from last week or whenever the announcement was made about 'wii' and have to agree with their sentiments that it simply makes you think Nintendo has gone insane. I mean, 'whats in a name' is true but does that mean to just rape the name? I dunno, saying the name shouldn't matter is like saying the design shouldn't matter. Sure it SHOULDN'T, but it DOES, because it shows an aspect of the console that the creators are dropping the ball.Frankly the extraneous factors in a console ARE important from a consumer standpoint, not necessarily on software quality but on console creator effort and desire to put out a superior product.
-
The reason the name is important isn't because of people who are "true" gamers. Real gamers will by a system even if they think the execs at nintendo hate them by giving it a retarded name that will only hurt gaming trying to continue its venture into the mainstream. What it WILL hurt is the sales for common gamers. If someone walks into a store and sees an xbox360, a playstation 3, or a Wii.... one will stand out as sounding like an idiotic device compared to the other two...They should be smarter then picking such a stupid name. "Any press is good press" might be true in some cases, but I think this bad of a name choice will hurt them in the long run. Parents buying a random system for there kids birthday or christmas gift would likely choose a less weird named console before dropping a few hundred bucks on the Wii

I'll have to give this a look-see eventually. Like many have mentioned, I too am a firefox user but I've always liked Opera. If firefox wasn't around I'd be using opera no doubt. If for whatever reason you don't like FF opera was always a good alternative and this is looking to be a great step forward for them, woo!

Seagate To Laungh 750GB Drive !!
Jeigh1405241495 replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I think 750 isn't as much as you all think. Possibly it's more then enough for you, individually, but not all home users.Just think back 3 or 4 years ago when we thought 80 or 100 gig hard drives were so huge that no one would ever need more space. Well as I mentioned, I have about 320 gigs of space and about 20 gigs free...I think 750gig is alot for now, but not too much, and in a couple years it'll be common place probably among people who like to store their data. -
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!er...uh...Hi

Seagate To Laungh 750GB Drive !!
Jeigh1405241495 replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I too am holding strong with two hd's totalling 320 gigs (1.5 gigs of ram here too m^e, as a random note heh) But yea I would love to get my hands on one of those suckers. I keep having to burn stacks of dvd's to clear my hd's off when they fill up with random crap I work on and so forth. 750gigs would probably keep me non-*****ing about running out of space for a few months at least :POh and I'd probably trust it by itself too... I'd backup important data but for the most part let it fly. I've only ever had one HD have any issues and I had lots of time to get my data off before it finally kicked the bucket. -
Welcome to our little haven EternalDragon. Hope you enjoy your stay. Make sure to check out the forum rules and whatnot to avoid any surprises down the road Hope to see you around.

I played for awhile and found it quite enjoyable, made a few bad choices right near the first that slowed me down pretty hardcore for a long time, but eventually had my footing and was consistently increasing in value. Haven't started playing again since the round reset though as I have alot more work lately at work (ironic I know) so I have less time for all these games I was playing haha. Maybe someday tho

Meebo: Yahoo Messenger Alternative one query too
Jeigh1405241495 replied to sandeep1405241520's topic in Software
If meebo is the one I'm thinking of, then it's pretty decent indeed as far as online messengers go. I can't stand alot of those sites but I think meebo was pretty good. I'd check if it's the one I'm thinking of but meebo is blocked by the firewall here at work -
First HD-DVD Movies In Stores
Jeigh1405241495 replied to marretas's topic in Websites and Web Designing
https://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/04/19 hahaha, couldn't resist. But yea it's cool that they are out but I wont be buying one anytime soon. I'll get a PS3 before I drop 500+ bucks on either an hd-dvd player OR a blu-ray player. It's cool but like always the first wave of the new tech is way too pricey -
Oh... never even thought of that. I'd imagine you couldn't get a (good) free one since you'd need a fairly high quality piece of software to accurately determine changes in stress levels and whatnot from someone talking into a mic. Plus you'd need a good mic or the software would be undermined by tech deficiencies. Its a cool idea though, I know I could make use of a polygraph now and again haha.

Polygraph...software? Wouldn't you require polygraph equipment before the software would be any good anyways? Unless I'm misunderstanding what you are asking for...

Habbo Hotel A new world
Jeigh1405241495 replied to CarolinaBlues's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The entire concept annoys me. It's a gimmick that somehow took off :| At least with MMORPG's it's social interaction based around a game, not a "game" (which I don't actually consider it) based around social interaction. If I want to communicate in methodsother then face to face or over the phone, normal IM is my main choice... I just don't see the point of using avatars in a virtual world for nromal chat. Sure it's nice in a game setting, but if you just want to chat the avatar just normally gives others an incorrect vision of who you are, in a world that has no relevance to the chat at all.Oh, but I have to point out the irony of jipman saying that if people want social interaction they should goto a pub... but he's posting that message to an online forum I have nothing against communicating online. You can do it more regularly and to a wider range of people from anywhere in the world... but the habbo hotel idea just seems rediculous to me personally. -
While I've been using linux a fair while now, I admit I haven't had much experience with such problems since mine usually works quite easily. I would suspect it's an issue with the drivers for your videocard moreso then the distro itself though. Possibly ensuring you have the proper drivers for your videocard installed could help. I know that's limited my resolution settings in the past.Since it's a laptop though, I'm not sure if you'd need to specify somewhere your monitor/screen type. I assume someone will be along in due time to fill in the blanks

Well if you just want to hide a folder you can do that by selecting hidden in the properties, no need for software to help with that But for locking folders you'll need some extra juice

Welcome aboard indeed. Hope you enjoy your stay and I look forward to seeing you around the various topics. Make sure to have a look-see at the rules and whatnot. Woo

Man, I'm glad to see Intel starting to do things right again. They've been dropping the ball so often the last few years but they seem to be on the right track. Everything I've read about these chips (Core Duos and Solos) seems to be pretty impressive both performance and power consumption/heat wise. I can't wait to see what they have out once they start making the next line of desktop cpus based off their mobile chips.

I've played GTA and GTA2 but forget if I ever actually beat them or not. I loved GTA3 but never actually finished it, got fairly far in and just kinda moved onto Vice City since it showed up around when I got GTA3. VC just had so much character compared to the less organic feeling original that it drew me away. I've beaten VC once or twice and played through most of it another time or two. San Andreas I've completed like 75%ish twice... both times having hadrware failure rape my save files, and I now have beaten all but like the last couple missions again. Haven't played in a month or two though, I'll need to fire it up and finish that sucker.Regardless, all of those games are amazing. Can't wait to see where the series ventures next.

I know there is software to basically encrypt a folder and it decrypts the contents when you input the password which sounds like what you want. Unfortunately I don't remember the name and believe the one I saw wasn't free regardless, although I'd be willing to bet there is some freeware that lets you password lock individual folders/files

Banner Made For A Friend
Jeigh1405241495 replied to manmankyle's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Thats one of the problems with people who makes graphics lately (not anyone in particular or just here, but it seems at alot of forums I frequent) that they get into these trends and then just follow them (such as the overly blended text) without really thinking about it. Sure sometimes these trends are good, but sometimes not. Then again I could be the only one thinking any of the trends are ever bad Who knows. I just figure graphics and art are an expression so might as well make graphics you like yourself rather then conforming... just the ol two non-country-specific-small-currency -
Its cool that you are taking on this project. So many people seem to go "OMG I WANT TO MAKE A VIDEOGAME!" without realizing that's similar to saying "WOW I WANT TO BUILD A CAR!" and not really thinking that there is alot involved with it. When most people start seeing that programming actually requires some time to learn and how many aspects of game design there are they shy away and move onto a new project, but its nice to see someone actually sticking with it. Personally I've never delved into game design... I do programming in school and for my current job but never really any game stuff, so good luck with it. Regardless you'll learn alot along the way no matter the outcome!
