Yea I've got to say Bill's doing the world right. He had planned to wait until he retired before starting any philantropy work, but changed his mind as is already making a big difference. Once he puts his money's full attention to charity it will be truly amazing. But about the actual article, that is amazing too. Whether or not losing the $1,000 affected the donator, at least she had the decenvy to do it. Alot of people with a crapload of money wouldn't think of ever giving it to a pregnant teen. By giving that money she helped out a mother and a future child alot. $1,000 when you have medical bills pouring in would help out alot. It's awesome knowing people like that are still around in the world.

What Do You Think About This Image?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to LikMeBalleFM's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Man that is freaking wicked! I too like it alot for some unknown reason haha... not sure why. I'm thinking you were right saying the black makes it have a really neat effect. While the overalll image is a bit subtle because of it, the rims themselves are almost highlighted by the darkness. Great stuff -

That's pretty insane how few people would stop to help. Me and a few friends a couple years back did a social experiment where we had someone act out being in various levels of distress to see who would react, and in almost every case someone stopped nearly immediately and others at least took note. Maybe it was because the city I'm in is small so it lacks the uber-urban mindset. Maybe it WAS that there was so many people, everyone assumed someone else was laready helping...I don't know. Personally I'm originally from a tiny little town, and if you see someone in need of help you just act. It's not a question of IF you should help them but HOW. Now I can understand in a bigger city being more cautious about the help you offer, but you'd think that many people wouldn't just ignore the situation... -
Meh I don't like those one's as much as some of your other sigs... I'm not gellin' with that square pattern things... and I dunno excluding the renders they just seem kind of plain to me. Still decent work just not my style I don't think.

I really liked the Saw films as well. Sure they weren't scary in a traditional sense but they don't seem like they were meant to be. They were moreso meant to mess with your head, give you a view into this psychopathic killers mind and show you his version of ligic behind the madness. I feel it did a great job and was really creative... even if the creativity was spent on new and exciting ways to kill someone. The second movie also had some scenes that made me cringe more then any movie ever has. I'm usually the first guy in line for a good, bloody zombie flick or horror movie but that damned scene with the needles (I won't explain to not ruin it) was just intense.Another reason I loved them were the huge surprises in each. The first one I semi predicted right near the first but then had COMPLETELY forgotten by the time it happened. The second I was constantly thinking "ok, the first movie caught me off guard, I never get caught off guard by movies, lets figure out the surprise in this one" then BOOM surprised again. I love when movie's actually can't be predicted 5 minutes in.Apparently they are working on a third, hopefully it'll manage to catch me off guard yet again

GDrive: Google's Next Step !

a)If you don't keep anything illegal or insanely personal its no big deal...B)I'd be more worried about the cia wire tapping all your phone conversations then reading your emails :oc)Google has been putting up a fight against allowing government access to their users files/information. It's still a strong possibility but it's not like they WANT to break their users trusts... they'd fall from grace quickly that way...My main point is that if you have nothing to hide what is the big deal haha. It's not like Google will call up the cia and be all "so-in-so wrote an email about having _____ medical condition TEEHEE!!!". Frankly anything on the internet is technically up for grabs if the government goes after a company enough to make them buckle... google is just covering their butts legally. -
Web Page Design As Possible Side Job? What would it take?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to lonebyrd's topic in Software
That is indeed probably a 'depends on the host' kind of thing. I'm not 100% sure, but you'd probably need to check in with whoever you would be getting your hosting from. Logically it should be fine to attach numerous domain's to a single hosting account... since it's really just using space on a server... but it might be not allowed by many so they can make more money on forcing people to have multiple accounts for multiple sites.I mean having subdomains would be possible... but I assume since you'd be making professional websites they would prefer a full domain addy. -
Don't be, whatever you are experiencing is a severe fluke. I've installed FF on a crapload of computers, used it one a varying range of system on various connections going to various types of sites... and extremely rarely see popups at all. That having been said, in the preferences there should be some basic popup options. As well, I know there are extensions available that make the popup blocker stronger. I don't know the exact name, but a quick search on the extension page would find them for you.Really, the fact that you are getting popups where you didn't with IE is hard to believe for me haha. Unless you are looking at some crazy porn sites that know their visitors all use FF and they have specific ads to sneak past its popup blocker hehe

Web Page Design As Possible Side Job? What would it take?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to lonebyrd's topic in Software
Yea if they try to say you need to maintain it without offering to pay you for it, I'd say don't even make the page for them to begin with or just say up front you won't keep it updated without compensation. Keeping a business site up-to-date can be a fairly large undertaking and it wouldn't be worth making the site if you were going to update it for free.I also agree with using examples of you're work. Even if you create some generic template sites and just store them on your asta account (just don't link them to your main site...) or even give them a cd with the examples on it. This would allow them to see a set of possible site design styles you are capable of and possibly catch their eye. An official "Hi, I make webpages, here is all the info about me!" type business site for yourself wouldn't be required if you plan to keep things small, but you'll need examples for sure. -
Ventorms, this is the first time they changed a release date (any other changes were jsut that what people THOUGHT would be the release date turned otu to be wrong...)As far as the price is concerned, I'm betting we'll find out about that either at the conference happening next week (still can't remember the name) or at E3. Regardless it'll probably feel like a blow to the gut haha :oOh and the november release is apparently the global. Originally is was supposed to be released in Japan in Spring and everywhere else in November... I think Sony realizes if they need to push back the spring date but can still maintain production enough to release world wide in November, it's safer to do that. By getting it out in Nov, you give time to have the initial "OMG WAIT IN LINE 25 HOURS FOR IT" rush, then hopefully to restock stores slightly and get another rush for Christmas (Sony claims at least a million PS3's per month after release will be shipped to stores)If they pull off a November release, a strong launch lineup (stronger then..*cough* "some other console's"...) actually putting out the numbers of units they claim they will AND having their online setup ready? Well, then it won't matter if it costs alot of money because people will drain their supplies regardless of how many they try to put into the market. *starts saving...*

I know I used to play myself a bit-o-Arena. Never got into it as much as you seem to be but it was a solid game indeed. The multiplayer was hella fun too. I can see how you'd get into it so much I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one who randomly gets into older games. I recently got re-hooked on jedi knight 2 haha. Old games rock because you can max their graphics :PBut yea Q3A was awesome at its time and probbaly still holds strong. Especially with what I assume would be a plethora of user made content by now.

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAANOK I'm in it right now, you're right, this is freakin insane haha.I'm sooo setting up a core system using this as the GUI haha. Man I'd actually use multiple desktops if it looked THAT cool all the time switching them.Plus the overall style is just intense, thank you VERY much for pointing this out to me haha, I have to go play more now.
-
Man, you sold me completely. I'll be trying that the moment I get home and get the sucker downloaded. You're just making the few minutes more I'm stuck here at work all the more painful haha.Glad to see more initiative being taken as far as interfaces are concerned, let's get some fresh blood into the ring.
-
YESssssssssssssssssssI had heard about this this morning, but I was worried they hadn't confirmed the release for a worldwide date. *sigh of relief* haha. Man I know I won't be able to afford one at launch (probably...) but still, it's nice to know it'll be out before the years end. I have high hopes for the PS3 and didn't want to see the 360 get toooo much of a head start. This way both will be strong the entire generation, meaning better for us :oBut the hard drive is good, they seemed unsure of it beforehand... also a nice props to the linux crowd haha. All in all, a good day for PS3 Should be even more info next week at the...uh...whichever conference is going on...

When I read it over, it seemed to imply he wants his users to be able to click on a link and then the music will stream through their browser so they can listen to it. But so they cannot download the music files themselves, nor that it will play automatically in the background upon visiting his site.

MSN Search In 2 Years MSN Search in 2 years
Jeigh1405241495 replied to zitrix2's topic in Search Engines
But now you want msn to be innovative without copying google, but you are saying they should be msn.com BECAUSE google uses google.com for their search I agree with the statement, I just don't see how any company could innovate search THAT much. I mean... it's searching.. you..SEARCH for stuff... the fundamentals are going to be the same regardless. If MSN manages to make it faster (not that you would notice much...), more relevant responses, etc then it could possibly take it over. Also if they gave it an awesome interface and hardcore advertised it, thats another way they could achieve this. ALl that having been said, I still think google will be near impossible to bring down, especially in a mere 2 years. -
Giant Asteroid In Earth Course
Jeigh1405241495 replied to marretas's topic in Science and Technology
Hahaha that's actually what came into my mind as I was typing that out. Although I'm sure they'll have a more accurate method of doing such a thing by then, I'm sure if this becomes a viable threat to the races survival they'll find a way to stop it. -
First I must comment - Whoever said Doom 3 was unoriginal because it rehashed old FPS's concepts...uh...it was a retelling of the story of the first...so obviously it was rehashed... but I digress...I think we'll see a combination of less graphical importance AND huge graphical importance... just not all at once. Soon we'll see games top out for what a screen can produce, the game producer will realize that they need to get original not better looking. EA recently stated they are going to start focusing on original game ideas instead of churning out rehashed sports games only. If EA of all companies realizes they need to start thinking like this, times could be a-changin.This will probably last a fair while, couple generations, where tech advancements only allow more creativity in games and not necessarily graphical advancement. Eventually, however, I assume we will move into home VR type situations where it'll begin this graphical war all over again. I mean the processing power to produce a believable VR sim would be huge comparatively to a game on a computer (unless you just mean VR like wearing headgear with a screen... I mean VR similar to matix style, actually feeling imersed in this realm be it through direct connection or creative headsets)It's sad that Laos' point is so valid haha. I can see VR being implemented for adult entertainment more rapidly once introduced then for gaming. Porn is easier to...er...'create' then a video game heh.

Starting Programming Where to begin?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to MOOSE1405241519's topic in Programming
You can program web apps, that is probably what he was referring to...maybe.But yes I would also reccomend java as a first language to learn. QBasic is obsolete, and you can learn the basics of programming just as easily in java. Java, java, java is a pretty good text actually as it lets you learn everything from a hello world! program on up. Regardless of the language you choose to learn first, follow the reccomendations here. Get some good resources before trying to jump in. While its possible to learn from code examples and short bits and pieces on various sites. If you have a well constructed primer, tutorial site, or textbook it will help you immensely (especially since you have no experience at all). Textbooks are expensive, but they also sometimes come with all the software you will need (compilers and whatnot) and then give VERY detailed descriptions of using the software and give you a very good step by step view of what is needed to go from a desire to code to having output on the screen.Good luck and enjoy programming -
Giant Asteroid In Earth Course
Jeigh1405241495 replied to marretas's topic in Science and Technology
While I agree with those saying most of us will be dead by then (unless they make enough new meds and biotech's to keep us kicking until much higher ages then are common now) I imagine they'll be able to find a way to divert and/or stop and/or destroy this asteroid by the time it actually is going to pose a threat. I mean think of how much our tech has advanced since 100 (well 96) years ago. I'm sure our kiddies and grand kiddies will be able to find a way to survive. -
Haha yea like I mentioned I notice now that mine says that too. Alot of people probably don't check their free space that often so it's not a commonly commented on issue (150mb is enough for most to not worry about it heh). But yea as long as you don't go over your ACTUAL allotted space I can't imagine any problems would arise

How To OverBurn On A DVD Burner?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to MOOSE1405241519's topic in Hardware Workshop
All the dvd's you are talking about, I assume, are like movies and whatnot. They are all dual layer dvd's so the people have up to 9gigs or so of room to play with, whereas you only have 4.7. That's why you need to use a prog like dvd shrink as mentioned. They'll compress the files and let you choose to remove the extra stuff to increase the vid quality after compression.DVD Decryptor is another good one if u can find it.Howevere, to clarify, it is ILLEGAL to copy any dvd you don't already own a copy of. Backing up DVD's is fine, but not copying your friends. Just thought I'd throw that out their to make sure this topic stays legit. -
Actually I've never had the starter package and still had this error, so I think its more of a random thing then just for the starter package.Actually I just checked, it looks like mine currently is saying unlimited too... weird indeed

Windows XP SP2 Better Than SP1? - Should I Upgrade?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Kushika's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Drusek I have SP2 and download torrents perfectly fine (...legal torents...obv...). You just need to make sure to "allow" the torrent software to run through the retardo firewall, or disable the firewall completely as I do. Really, if torrents were literally unusable with SP2 thatn would be a VERY well known issue haha. People likey their torrents -
Popups don't seem to bother me often anymore, be it in firefox (obviously) or IE6 on my 'rents computer when I visit them. Both have pretty decent popup blockers. There is one site I visit sometimes that managed to get a popup past firefox, but it's rare as that's the only one I know of that I've had a popup get by in FF.The IE6 popup blocker lets a few more through (for me at least) but it's still really decent. I'd rather just let those handle everything if they can rather then install more stuff to bloat up the systems. I used to use a program called "free surfer mk 2" but the newer versions are kinda annoying to me so I just upgraded my rents IE (well, got them sp2) and voila, no more issues. Now luckily most popup blockers, be they built in or external, allow you to set certain sites to let popups through. So if you DO need to download something that the killer kills the dialogue box, just set that site as 'allowed'. Alternatively, usually you can just click a notice icon or bar that says a popup was blocked and choose to 'temporarily allow popups from BLAH.com" and then refresh and the popup survives.Really popups haven't been an issue for me for years... ever since I went to Firefox hehe. But once I realized that firefox could block them I walled my 'rents comp too with popup blockers. As long as they keep up with the ad creators (I remember when they figured out most popup blockers didn't stop popunders for awhile...*shudders*) we'll be fine.
