Haha wow, I think you guys took this way more seriously then he intended... I got the feeling he was just thinking like you don't want your mom finding your porn or something haha and you guys go all out with encryption methods and such heh.I just found that humorous... carry on.

Is it common for random people to get hacked? I mean, I know it happens obviously haha I'm just wondering if you guys have been hacked by people you don't know (say, someone you pissed off). I just know that while I always tell my friends to get anti spyware and run it every week or two, anti virus, take all the above mentioned precautions, etc, I never do. Until a year or two ago I didn't run anti virus, only do a spyware check every couple months, etc and have never had any troubles. I'm just kind of curious if it's just been luck of the draw that I hadn't had any major issues when my computer was an open book basically (now it's secure as hell, but just because I got on a kick a few months back to figure out how to make it secure because a friend wanted to know haha). All great tips though, and obviously if you know you're being hacked at that exact moment, the unplugging the computer from the network or power step is the most important first step

The Joys Of Pidgin Replacement for IMs such as MSN
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Alegis's topic in Software
I too really enjoy pigdin. I still use traditional msn more simply because I use my webcam a lot to talk with people who've moved away from here over the years, but when I'm at the office or elsewhere I love to fire up pigdin when given the choice. It's a very well put together piece of software. Gaim was always nice but simply felt a little shoddy but when they revamped it upon changing names it seems like they ironed out whatever small kinks were still kicking around with gaim. Great stuff. -
Killer, we delete all the spam we find, that's why most aren't B)I'll weigh in on this saying to keep the section. While I also put in a lot of time tracking *BLEEP* posts in the gaming forum as well as rarely posting there myself, this place IS a technology site. Gaming is a very important and very lucrative technology business so it makes sense to keep it to me. Sure a lot of people try to abuse the section and post ridiculously cheap posts, but on the other hand sometimes there are very good discussions and debates about gaming on a level higher then "th15 g4m3s awes000me!!!1111ONE!"So yes, I'll vote to leave it and even leave it counting for credits even though it will make me have more work to do. Maybe you should just be like me and get a little quicker on the old ban button

Well, I have a few things to add First I'll start off saying I'm a Christian, but I don't freak out when people have differing views from me or don't like Christianity. People SHOULD believe whatever they want to, that's the whole point of faith, really. However this "Syntheist" idea kind of confuses me as it seems like people who want to pretend to follow a religion, but just have what we all have, free will haha. It sounds like they are trying to label themselves simply because they don't react negatively to ideas when that should more so be a characteristic not a way of life or religion or classification... but I digress. As far as the whole bad Christians thing goes, I think you should be more clear in specifying that you dislike/hate/whatever the arrogant stupid Christians. Personally I've never tried to force my beliefs on anyone except when asked, I've never tried to convince someone my way was right unless I had non-faith defenses as well. I've had debates with friends where I stood for AND against Christianity. Basically I know what I believe, and I know a lot of other Christians do it right. Unfortunately as you said C is the default religion almost nowadays and as such so many people claim to be when they aren't, thus diluting the base populace. Further the high profile cases against Christianity due to the power we've had over the years causes it to be more obvious when wrong doings occur.Basically my point is, as you said every religion has problems. You should learn to despise the individuals. Also you can't blame religion for all the violence it seems to have caused, really. It may have been used but a lot of the violence either used religion as a tool for enlisting aid OR was simply the easiest way. Humanity will likely always fight each other over things, religion just offers an easy excuse If not religion then its politics, money, etc.In closing, some of humanity is good, the rest sucks.

Spiderman 3 Have you seen the evil inside?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to turbopowerdmaxsteel's topic in General Discussion
I don't know, I like that he is constantly beat down in his personal life. Being spiderman when you're personal life is going great too doesn't seem like as big of a deal as being spiderman when you're personal life is falling apart around you, or at least on the verge of doing so normally. It adds a nice conflict and makes it seem like a bigger sacrifice to be the hero. But maybe that's just me being old fashioned haha -

A lot, and by a lot I mean everyone I know except me and two buds, have been bashing Spidey 3 as being a disappointment. Now I saw it last night and I agree with you guys, I think it was at least as good as the other two movies if not better. Venom is an amazingly cool villain and in the movie he was awesome, they handled the dark spidey aspect well, the scenes when parker was going bad *bottom* were hilarious when appropriate and very fitting when not, the fight scenes were off the chart... basically I loved it.I'm glad you guys liked it to so I feel less odd about it now haha.Oh, and if they put carnage in the fourth movie I'll wet myself in a good way haha. -
You must remember though, most ytmnd sites are almost trying to be annoying

I had a Stats professor one year that had a screen saver on his office computer that put that to shame for bright colors. It was basically brightly colored (as bright as that site or brighter) geometric shapes popping up at various sizes on top of one another... but they popped in about every millisecond leaving it simply a flashing mass of seizure inducing pain. After seeing that I came to the conclusion that there must simply be people out there that actually think color combinations and movement on top of them (that make normal people want to scratch their own eyes out) are actually attractive.Oh the interwebs, when will you stop amazing me.

"bin Laden" By Immortal Technique
Jeigh1405241495 replied to demolaynyc's topic in General Discussion
I know, I'm just saying you dismissing them simply because of their method of presenting some 'facts' is as ignorant as them assuming you'll believe those 'facts'. Plus rappers and other musicians sing, on a regular basis, about fictional events and occurrences. Just like tv, the net, movies, and books you can't believe everything you read, hear, or see in the entertainment world nor are you expected to by the artist in many cases. -

Jeigh1405241495 replied to demolaynyc's topic in General Discussion
Whether I believe him or not is irrelevant, but if you're taking on a conspiracy don't use weak flawed arguments Saying he hired someone who FAILED to kill him, well, why wouldn't he? If this was true, he would make people like you believe it wasn't true by making sure it at least appeared his life was also in jeopardy when in fact he could have been perfectly safe and just making it seem like he was a target :)I don't really have the energy to tackle this one, I just figured since you do seem very interested in this "conspiracy" you should really think through your logic better before just saying its wrong heh.Oh and if you want a mind trip about this, there is a movie/documentary/whatever called Loose Change I believe, I only saw part but if its at all accurate it makes you think alot. -
Two Ethernet Ports, Can I Use Both?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to demolaynyc's topic in Hardware Workshop
Haha were you thinking back to the old days where people hooked up two 56k modems to get a speed boost? I hope you were, as nostalgia is fun haha. Anyways yea, like faulty.lee said while it's a good idea in theory it would never be utilized anyways unless you were trasnferring huge files over your network all the time where it was actually beneficial to have them (and by huge files, I mean large numbers of gb). It's cool that you're thinking like that though -
I have to say I loved both the Sims and sims 2 when they were each respectively released. You're right that its similar to the first, but it's a SEQUEL haha, if it was drastically changed people who liked the original would be annoyed when buying the second expecting a new sims game and got something completely different.Honeslty for a sequel I think it hit the mark dead on. The graphics got a nice update (sure not custom emotions per character as metnioned, but gotta leave room for improvement and not rape processors hehe), the objects in the game were redesigned, amount of things you can buy/build/use were increased, professions increased, added generations and other little nifty ideas, etc. They basically took the sims, a core life simulator, and fleshed it out, which is exactly what I had hope for and expected and they delivered. Both games captivated me, the first more then the second only because it was a 'fresh' idea, with the time management aspect. Just like in RTS games time management is a HUGE factor in the sims that some people tend to overlook. Sure with one sim in a basic job and no objects in the house its not too bad, but once you have a few sims with complex jobs needing training and trying to maintain various relationships all while designing a nice home and possibly even stop to smell the roses it gets pretty hectic and insanely fun. I know Back when sims 1 came out there were times I'd start a new game, start playing at 8pm and it'd be 1 or 2a.m. before I'd even realize what time it was (and usually most of that time was spent just on deciding on a character/home design haha).Frankly while I've spent longer times playing other games, and gotten a more visceral fun out of many others, the sims will always hold a respected place in my heart. It did what it set out to do and did it well and made a compelling game in the process. Kudos to both the first and second sims games.

Vista Transformation Pack Vista.....without the bugs
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Danmidas's topic in Software
Hm, I've got to say this has me intrigued. I might just have to try it out later once I'm home. Maybe not though, we'll see haha. And I think everyone understands there may be performance issues. For people who spend all day on their computers working on less then intense things a nicer environment look is a welcome event. I know I personally cant stand the xp default theme so either go silver or classic on every computer I use for an extended period of time.If this works as well as it says without too heavy of a performance hit I'd probably use it. -
Visual Studio Reports - Parameter Passing
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Jeigh1405241495's topic in Programming
Ah right. Yea I have very, veeeery little familiarity with this stuff so far, like I've seen reporting tools used but never bothered looking at them before. It's Visual Studio 2005 and I'm using whatever the default reporting package is when you create a "Report Server Project" and it will be accessed through a web interface as it'll reside on an internal server I believe. -
Hello everyone, I've recently started work on a project involving moving database reports from a less then reliable reporting suite to using MS Visual Studio reporting tools. Now this is all well and good and the actual database interaction I don't really have any issues with but I am less then familiar with the reporting tools in Visual Studio and seem to have run into a bit of a snag. The old reports are used by various users that don't want to have to dig into a file and put the desired query parameters into the raw SQL queries which makes sense since that is the whole point. However the only way I have been able to add user input parameters to my MS SQL reports has, while technically they 'work', resulted in a drastic increase in the time it takes to perform the required action. Basically, if I hard code a parameter into the query it takes about a second, but if I "filter" the results using the parameter it has to return basically the entire table then grab the preferred portion... which results in increasing to 40-60 seconds depending on the report and the criteria/tables joined. So basically I'm wondering if any of you know of a way to directly use the parameters in the query itself. Basically like place a variable in the query so once you input the parameters I can use something along the lines of where Table.Entry = Parameters!Param1.Value Unfortunately that itself seems to just crap out when ran. Anyways, if any of you have used the VS reporting tools or know of what I'm missing (I assume its simple and I'm just over looking something basic since I haven't used these tools much) I'd be appreciative. Thanks.

For a minute I was hoping whatever site you were talking about was someone's atrocious myspace page Those things are so out of hand now that people think just because they can put 40 media formats that all conflict with each others space (on page space, noise space, whatever). But yes, some people shouldn't be allowed to release the annoyance incarnate they call a 'website' onto an unsuspecting populace.

Browsers Take Much Time To Open IE7 and FF
Jeigh1405241495 replied to hazemmostafa's topic in Software
I can't think of anything off the top of my head besides the usuals. Defragment your hard drive, cleanup windows temp files, run antivirus, run spyware and adware removal tools. I know you mentioned a few things but if you haven't tried these I would suggest doing so now. The spyware/adware could especially be an issue if the wrong one got on your system and is mucking with your browsers (which would make sense for such creations).Past this I thought I'd just point out that you should always expect firefox and derivatives to take longer then IE to open just due to the setup and integration that IE has into windows. But that isn't too relevant. So yes, try the things mentioned above if you haven't already and let us know how it goes. Good luck.P.S. - I assume 5 seconds for a program to load is horrible for you? I mean, personally 5 seconds doesn't seem that drastic that it would prompt me to assume my computer was messed up, but thats just me. -
The previews for this game DO look amazing, unfortunately my computer is getting up there in the age and my roommate just moved out with his 360 close behind him Hopefully I'll figure something out soon though, this and other 360 games coming out are just going to be insane. But yes, the game looks amazing, hopefully it doesn't disappoint!

threesix, thats a nice plan, but unfortunately we still need technology that can do that before we can, you know, do that :)I like to believe there is life out there somewhere, obviously finding this planet proves nothing, but it would be amazing if life of any level was found there someday. Sure there is no reason to assume it'd be intelligent life, or advanced life, but regardless it could be very interesting indeed. Maybe this will reignite interest in researching new methods of space travel. On an aside, I also agree that we still need to save earth. Sci-Fi stuff that puts forth the idea "find a new planet and relocate" will never happen in time. We'd never have the technology to actually relocate any portion of the human population, thats just insane. Oh, and as far as I know, the Bible doesn't say aliens can't exist

Download Movies From Websites Like Youtube
Jeigh1405241495 replied to master_nero's topic in Security issues & Exploits
I dont know if its legal or illegal, would imagine its a site by site thing depending on their copyright setup and whatnot, but either way they'd prefer people NOT download the videos so you need to go back repeatedly if you want to rewatch it, thus seeing all their ads multiple times, thus being more likely to click them, thus being more likely to make them more money haha.QED -
Honouring The Dead VA Tech Massacre

Arkane, unfortunately the media covers the shock value, and regardless of how atrocious this event is, and while still shocking, the fact that Columbine occurred first means (and its a disturbing thought) have already become more accustomed to the idea of a school shooting. Really that's disgusting in and of itself but it's just how we work. And I agree, if these people want to go crazy, they should just kill themselves in the privacy of their own home, save the world the infection of their existence. -

This is really nice of you to put up. I watched a lot of coverage of this yesterday and just stared in awe at the tv as it went on and on. I can't believe things like this still actually occur especially in countries like the U.S. People all over the world suffer in ways we in first world nations can't even imagine yet some can be pushed to commit atrocious acts such as this. It literally made me feel sick yesterday as I watched the news about this. Those involved are in my thoughts and prayers. -
Could just be down randomly, server down or updating or whatnot. I'd suggest just being patient and it will probably be back up soon. Mine has gone down before but is more often then not back up within 30 minutes.
