Euhm... you could try to see if something is blocking the connection to the ftp server, firewall, router etc.Further more, you could try to use the ftp command in command-line. If that doesn't work, then it's almost sure that there's something wrong with the connection.If that is not the case, try a few other ftp clients, eg. total commander

A program that helped me alot was PCI file recovery, I accidently nuked the partition table of my HDD (which of course i didn't backup). And i couldn't afford losing the stuff on it, so I did a quick google and found PCI, it works very well. And is fast too

I'm not too good with linux, but you could setup a sudo command to execute the command to change the clockspeed. So you don't need su :PI don't know how to install this command/script/i actually don't know what it is.

The client is usually not responsible for the transfer speeds, but I believe Xisto sometimes has troubles with ftp. But I do have to say that I just uploaded something with a constant speed of 40kb/sec, my connections max.

Grub is the same as the bootloader in windows, so it would be quite a way around to do so. I have grub as bootloader, but that is only because it came standard with the Fedora Core 3 installation that i put over win xp.

I use a custom html page on my computer that displays just the feeds, that's the trick. You need to create the feed pages for yourself though. Have fun with it.
