Asteroid In 2029, an asteroid will be viewable...
musichere replied to kc8yff's topic in Science and Technology
The world is getting so much thicker and ins u ch a short space of time, there are so many different prospects for our deaths now, and although we have improved in areas like health, we could die by Nuclear Holocaust, terrorism, global war, global warming, any other natural disaster etc. -
I was just wondering what your opinion is on a project I want to take on. It's called http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and will be a community for players of the oboe to get together and exchange information and opinions on the most beautiful instrument in the world.I was browsing the web for websites about the Oboe, and they are incredibly bare. The ones that exist are dreadfully designed, many of which are on angelfire, and none of which have a lively community for Oboists to discuss reed making techniques and the Oboe instrument in general.Would it be suicidal to embark on a project to promote the oboe, since there has to be a reason for there to be so few in the first place?

Gmail Growing Larger every second counts
musichere replied to jipman's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I'm actually one of the very few people that is not happy about this. By incresing storage space I feel they will have to comprimise in other areas, for example speed, and the level of service that it can provide to each and one of us if it's going to strain itself like this. -
Ahh I used to use Ws_FTP Educational Edition but they discontinued that and I don't really awnt to be paying for something as simple as an FTP client. At the moment I am using an open source client from Sourceforge which is called Filezilla which has a 99.9% percentile and is hugely popular.

Huh? How did you get an iPod for free and what was the catch?

Nero Problems Fixing Nero Problems
musichere replied to Poison_the_well's topic in Hardware Workshop
Sorry if this is irrelevant to you, but I just want to say that if you're having frequent problems with Nero (like I used to have), why don't you try out this program called CD Burner XP, which is found at cdburner.seIt like Nero very much but it is much more stable, and is 100% free to download and use. It's won many awards and I recommend it highly for Windows users. -
Most Comfortable Way To Sit In A Computer Chair
musichere replied to Antnydude47's topic in Software
I put a blanket underneath, and put my feet up onti the workbench (adjacent to the monitor), then I put my cordless keyboard and mouse onto my chest and laze around for hours. My best tip is to buy a cordless keyboard and mouse, it's so much more convenient if you're a lazo like me -
Russian Mp3 Sites legal?
musichere replied to l337 Nurse Pedestrian's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Recently a court in Britain ruled them to be legal as well (I think I heard that on ITV news or something), so it can only be a good thing. My guess is that they do pay royalties but because they are in Russia the amount is much less. -
What Storage Technology Gmail Using? a discussion....
musichere replied to shahidiimran's topic in Websites and Web Designing
My guess is that they bought a ridiculous amount of servers, and they are using high comperssion to store all our text based emails (notice how they don't allow you to use pictures inside your emails) -
Calm down people What the dude means is that his friend found a way to burn CDRs without a CD Burning Software If you're wondering how, all you have to do is insert the blank CD, and open the CD inside Windows Explorer. The drag the files, and when you're finished press 'Write these files to the CD' and the Roxio based burner will burn you CD for you. To burn audio cds (at snails speed), you can use the integrated feature inside Windows Media Player. If all of that was a load of nonsense and that your friend found a way to write music onto a CD by making pricks with a needle , then I want to meet that guy.

Switching Oses any advice?
musichere replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
If you want to just use Linux for the kernal you could try out Linspire, which was originally called Lindows before Microsoze took legal action against them.It is not free to use, but it is 100% Linux and is ridicuolusly familiar looking for a Windoze user. -
P2P programs(merged) What P2P program are you using?
musichere replied to prolifik's topic in Computer Networks
iMesh runs on the fasttrack network which is filled with viruses, pornography and fake files (mostly thanks to Kazaa, it used to be a great network which everyone used).I have since moved to eDonkey network and in particular the software called eMule which is in my mind by far the best p2p client in the world. The reason for this is even though the downloading speeds are atrotious, the files are of amazing quality and quantity especially. If there is an album that you can't find anywhere on the internet, have a try on eDonkey, you'll be very surprised. -
I don't like using Windows Media Player, I find it too bulky and slow to load on my computer, and it's frequent crashes frustrate me.I only need a player for videos, and I don't require the music store, radio, library, CD ripping etc. features that come with Windows Media Player, and I was wondering if there was a decent alternative that plays videos with the same quality but without the bulk. Thanks

What Is The Use Of Service Packs For Windows?
musichere replied to Vagodeoz's topic in Websites and Web Designing
If you download it from the generic Windows Update it will only download and isntall the files you need. If you get the offline version then it will be over 250MB -
You're kidding right? Azureus and bittorrent in general is awful for music, only for ridiculously popular albums and very new ones. You should be able find any album that ever charted in the top 500 Billboard on eMule however. It is proven to have the most users (except for fasttrack) and the system of credits means that everyone shares a lot and you can download many files very quickly if you have a good rating. Kazaa was very good until it became polluted, but there are many alternatives if you just want a simple no-nonsense peer to peer software for downloading single music files, for example Ares, or any of the Overnet softwares. Be careful of the BPI though, if you are living in the UK, becuase they have begun to sue people for downloading music from places such as WinMX, iMesh, Kazaa etc.

What Is The Use Of Service Packs For Windows?
musichere replied to Vagodeoz's topic in Websites and Web Designing
They release 1 service pack every year. The last one was Service Pack 2, and Service Package 1 was of course released 2 years ago.I would personally get it, but it is not compulary, and if you patch up your computer properly you don't really need it.If you have a problem with the download you can get them directly from Microsoft for free, including the delivery and packaging costs. -
I would just get whatever is cheapest and whatever is the most popular, simply because unless you are going to store government top-secret files there is no reason to overspend on something as simple as a usb stick.
-
Does anyone look at their PC Boxes anyway? By having a computer the size of an easter egg doesn't in any way benefit you. By fitting a computer in such a small space wouldn't they have to comprimise on the quality of the components inside?
-
They look fantastic! How can your click through rate be higher though if all they are advertising is Google? For your kind of website though they look perfect because in that space is what you'd expect the links to be, and by having the adlinks they fit right in without disturbing anything.

In my opinion, if you're using a forum software for a small personal website, use phpBB, because it is simple and sturdy and will happily host a forum of any size for any number of people. If I was to start a business however I would definately use vBulletin. Although it is ridicuolusly overpriced, it is by far the classiest and the most user-friendly forum software. Many of the world's biggest forums and business websites use vBulletin now for that reason.
-
They should take longer than 15 days to be honest , but you can't expet great things since you're getting a free service and they have to cover the cost of burning, printing, casing etc.
-
Also there is Ubuntu, which you can get for FREE from their site and they will ship it to you reasonably quickly all free.Furthermore there are the classic live versions of SuSE, Mandrake etc.
-
I am using Opera and I like it much more than Firefox becuase it is proven to be quicker, and in my opinion it's much more user friendly and easy to use.Firefox users should welcome Opera because it is multi-platform and is a strong alternative to Internet Explorer from Micros%ft.

If you're going to encode in 320kbps VBR there is no reason why you shouldn't just use Monkey Audio or any other lossless encoder, since there will be always a large amount of quality lost by encoding into any lossy format, and if you really care about the sound it makes then it's worth investing in Monkey Audio (which is of course free)
