  1. Or they just want attention. Chances are they're just feeling 'out of the spotlight' or something. Thats the typed of people the label of a cutter implies, anyways. That being said, there are definately times when thats not the reason, and the person really does have some sort of emotional problem. Labels are unavoidable. As much as you might hate them, they're always going to be there, because even the people who avoid labels create that label for themselves. If you don't fit under any particular grouping thats already been made, then more and more people will eventually copy what you are and another label will be born. You just have to get used to them and make sure you are who you want to be, not who everyone else wants you to be. At that point, even though the labels are there and always will be, they don't matter..
  2. I'm still writing exams. I actually have one in a little more than an hour o.O But heres a guess..English - 80%AP Math - 70% (if I'm lucky)Chemistry - 80% (I hope - depends on the exam on Thursday)Computer Technology - 90%Art/design - 85%Theatre Arts - 80%World Geography - 85% (I hope - might be more like 80%)
  3. I don't use the vent too much. For the most part, I write in an online journal thing that no one sees.. and thats probably a good thing. But sometimes, when I'm even more upset about something, and its something I know other people have experienced and can relate to, it'd be nice to have their opinion on it. I guess sometimes its just nice to know someone has read what you wrote. You can't do that if you write somewhere else. Anyways, thats just my opinion on it. If people want to post a lot of topics in the Vent, why not? If you don't want to read the pointless ones.. well, don't read them. As long as they're not one sentence long or anything, I don't have a problem with them...
  4. Both.. though, the competing thing has been put on hold until after exams. I actually need decent marks this year to get into univeristy. And, my hours are locked in until at least June..same thing every week. So I'm kindof hoping they hire more trainees, so then Ken can take me off that swim on Fridays. Its not like they'd take any of my other hours, the ones I actually "want". (Today was my first day back teaching tots since August, I'm still kindof bitter about it.. I'd much rather teach the other levels with people who can talk :\)
  5. So, just as a bit of info before I even start, I work as a lifeguard/swimming instructor at a pool. I have for about six months, and before that I coached for a swim team.. I don't have a problem with kids. Unless they're causing problems on purpose. Today started off with a 2 1/2 hour english exam. That in itself is enough to entirely ruin the day. I finished with a whole two minutes left, and I ended up leaving out a whole paragraph. I then had a huge lunch "hour" of 30 minutes. After that, I had a 3 1/2 hour AP math exam. This was the worst part of the day, up until about 7:30. But anyways, the math exam. It was ridiculously long, with weird questions about particle acceleration and random stuff having next to nothing to do with math. There were at least two things on it I can honestly say I've never seen before. The stuff I had seen before, I blanked out and couldn't remember a lot of it. Annnd to make it even better, I was at the front of the gym where all the teachers gathered and talked for the whole 3 1/2 hours, completely oblivious of my semi-glare and complete distraction from the exam. Now, on to the fun stuff, and what I'm actually upset about. I had to work the Friday night swim tonight. This isn't anything new, I've been working it since September, though there is distinct hope that I might soon be taken off this particular swim when a few more 'trainees' get hired on. But tonight, unfortunately, I had to work. See, the Friday night swim is the worst and busiest and most "skeet" populated swim of the entire week. Anyone who's a general annoyance to society is there, all at the one time. I can honestly say that I hate working it. But tonight was one of the worst ones in ages. There were these three kids who kept going down the tube slide (where I had to tell people when they could go), and they'd stop in the middle, and try to climb back up. They spent about five minutes at this, all the time more and more people were lining up behind them waiting, and getting upset at me for letting them on the slide in the first place. I ended up kicking them off the slide for the rest of the swim, something I've never had to do before. Completely ruined my mood.. or, what mood there was ' So after these guys go off, another two come along and decide they're going to splash me as much as they possibly can. I mean, it was ten minutes before the end of the swim, and they got my soaked. Why would you even bother? How on earth does getting someone who could have gone home dry, wet give you amusement? I can't really see the humor.. I just don't understand why you would pay $5 just to bother lifeguards. Don't you have something better to do with your Friday night? Seriously..
  6. Either a goth or a punk. Or a metalhead, but thats not there.I kindof try to avoid labels.. I'm just.. me. But based on the typical goth and punk, I'm somewhere in the middle. Black is generally the colour I wear, I have a couple of those bracelets with spikes, I have guaged piercings. Plus, I've been asked more than once if I'm goth, and it always takes a bit of explaining for them to understand that I'm not really trying to be anything. Sooo, I voted goth, since I've never been asked if I'm punk.
  7. People like that bother me.. they always have. Its just another thing that people think they can conform to, just to make it look like they're different in yet another way. I know a few guys who are actually gay, and a few girls, but all the people I know who say they're bi are the ones I never really took seriously. They're the people who do things because its cool and because people will look at them as different because of it. You can always tell which is which..Someone should explain to the 10yrolds that you can't know if you're bi or gay when you're that young. You might have an idea, or know somethings odd when you compare yourself to your friends, but thats about it.. you can't know for sure. I know a girl who said she was a lesbian when she was.. 12. That lasted about a month, until she found a boyfriend. I guess she "changed her mind", or something. All that being said, I could have no idea what I'm talking about, since I'm straight. This is just what I've happened to notice..
  8. Well.. people who are actually depressed don't show it to the world. For the most part, they do the opposite - they try to act happy. You can usually pick up on it, though, if you know them well.. And as for the cutting, same deal. People who are serious about it and are depressed and do it for whatever reason try to hide it, not show it off. The last thing they want is for someone to know they do that kind of thing, especially someone in school who will tell everyone else. How do I know this? I was actually depressed a few years ago. Not diagnosed, but thats because I hid it. I'm not really sure how I came out of it.. People who show it off are commonly called emo, here anyways. They're a lot more common than they used to be.. ahh well. I've learned to ignore them.. you just tone them out after a while.
  9. Haha, I know some people like that. The ones who think they're always right, but rarely are? And who say they hate to argue, yet refuse to stop? Urgh.. they bother me XD I'm slowly but surely figuring out who's like that and who I don't like, and hanging out with different people. But I'm not so sure I'll ever really get away from them, cause they're everywhere.. all the time. I've recently taken up the habit of just not answering them if they try it on msn.. I don't block them or anything, I just.. don't answer.Anyways, point being, they're everywhere, and they're not going away any time soon. Get used to people who won't let something die, even if they're wrong, 'cause there are too many people like that for there to ever be none..
  10. Thats computers for you.. you get used to it after a while. Especially when other people are always the ones to mess it up.. then its even worse. I've never had a power surge or anything like that kill my computer, but I have had my parents and my brother do pretty stupid things to it before. My mom downloaded a "virus update" from an email with an unknown sender. That didn't end well. They're also after getting way too much adware on the thing..My laptops warrenty covers power surges, anyways, so I'm ok. I donno why you couldn't have told the guys what caused it, though.. that would have made more sense :\ Especially if its under warrenty. Its not like you'd have to pay for anything extra..
  11. Does Bob from Reboot count? He was my favorite! Even though the shows weird now, it was awesome when I was younger.. Bob was awesome. Mostly 'cause of his personality/attitude towards everything, but partly because he was blue XP
  12. Its just the remains of the times when men were dominant over women. If you look back, men were always thought to be superior, no matter how offensive that view seems now. People evolve, things come out of it, and some of them stick even after the original thoughts are long gone in the majority of society.Personally, it doesn't bother me. For one thing, no one forces you to take the new name. If you want to keep your last name, well, go ahead and do it. No one's stopping you. It'd be a different issue if it were a forced thing.. For another thing, I don't really like my last name. I'll be more than happy when I can get a new one form my husband, whoever that might be. I'm glad the choice is there, but I'm not complaining that it's the traditional view to do as most people do. I understand why it came to be that way, even if only slightly, and I understand that the views of women have changed quite a lot in the past while. I'm happy with all that, and given that I don't even like my last name, I've got no problem in going with the traditional way on this one, and getting a different last name
  13. There's a guy kindof like that that I know. He's been at it for a good four years by now, and I can never see it happening. He gets particularly.. bad (? ) just after I break up with a boyfriend and realizes I'm single. Thats happened twice so far, he's in the middle of it atm.. Just let him know in whatever friendlike way you can that friends is all you'll ever be. Don't even try to be close friends until he gets used to the idea. The guy I know tried to get me to go to a movie with him once, just me and him as friends, and I wouldn't.. I knew thats not what he wanted. Don't lead him on, but push him away so slightly that he realizes it and doesn't even notice it.
  14. I use Firefox. Its got a popup blocker, and I like the multiple tabs option. I also like the fact that you can put bookmarks in the bar under the url box. Internet Explorer is the main thing I avoid when using a browser.. I can't really say whether or not I like Opera, 'cause I've never used it. I just happened to try Firefox first, and stuck with it. If Firefox ever starts to bother me, I might, but until then, Firefox is fine. Internet Explorer is.. unbearable :\
  15. I'm usually between 10 and 20 credits, though a while ago I was hovering around 30. Then I was away from the internet for a few days when I went on a trip, and it dropped.. ahh well. I usually get two or three a day, but I think the highest I've gotten in one day is 15 or so. I was trying to get up to 30, and I was putting off studying xP Procrastinating is the best way to get credits
  16. CDs. I only have about 50 now, but now that I have a job and nothing else to spend it on, I'll have more soon enough. Most of them are some form of metal or alternative music. I have a whole shelf of them XDI also have almost 200 bouncy balls. Theres a pinball machine in one of the stores at the mall that uses bouncy balls, and after you lose you get the ball. So whenever I'm at the mall (which isn't too often lately..) I spend whatever quarters I have on bouncy balls. Hmm.. I think that's it. CDs are the big thing, even though I still download a lot of my music. I figure if I spent the money on the CD, the artist shouldn't care if I download the song to have on my laptop. Slightly off-topic xP
  17. This is the html code for making a thumbnail, and making it open in a different window. I have no idea about FrontPage, besides it messing up codes. Tables would work, from a html view, for lots of thumbnails.. <a href="full image url" target="_blank"><img src="thumbnail image url"></a> You could also use this code with jlhaslip's to resize the image that way..
  18. Windows XP is ten times better than Windows ME. I had to live with ME for at least three years after my parents decided to upgrade before the bugs had been worked out, not that they ever did fix all of them. At least Windows XP doesn't spontaniously crash (as much). While Windows isn't the best, XP is actually... bearable?
  19. 21, Old? Nah. Getting there, might feel like it, but you'll look back on thinking you were old at 21 when you're 50 or 60 or older and laugh. Sure, you have to act older and you have responsibilities, and stuff like that, but thats only when you're around the people who pay you xP Act however you want, whatevers really you when you're at home and around your friends. 21 is definately not old.... and here I am, concerned that I turn 18 in a few weeks '
  20. Well, if you're close to the guy she's going out with, and especially if you don't like her, the first thing I would do would be to let the guy know that she's cheating on him. Personally, even if someone thought they were a friend, I wouldn't let them get away with hurting someone that actually was a friend. So think about telling him what she's up to.. if she doesn't deserve your trust, why should she deserve your secrecy, either, and why should she be helped in hurting your other friend? Anyways, as for annoying people hanging out with your group.. maybe she doesn't think she's annoying? Highly unlikely, I know, especially since she's so untrustworthy, but maybe she's just acting how she thinks she should act. Try and talk to her about it, and point out the things she's doing that bothers you and your other friends. Let her know that if she keeps it up, she probably won't have any friends at all. If she seems really unconcerned if/when you try to talk to her, just don't bother.. chances are she's acting that way on purpose. Good luck :\
  21. Going to a friends house There won't be too many of us there, so it should be fun. After the whole new years thing happens, I'm heading back to another friends house to sleep. I'm completely ditching my parents this year xP
  22. I can't really say I know anyone like this.. I guess thats a good thing. I don't really understand how you would become addicted to gambling, not to the extent that some people are. I mean, after spending that much money, even if you win something big, you'll never get it all back. Its impossible. I guess I don't understand how they can't understand that. Is your life worth wasting away on a statistic? I think you have to find something to keep her occupied with and keep her away from any place where she can gamble. She won't stop unless you make her stop.. it doesn't seem like she really realizes what she's doing and how its affecting the people around her. Try and make her see that. I never liked statistics.. I guess thats why I never liked gambling, either.
  23. Merry Christmas xD40 minutes to go.. I should really get some sleep :\Anyways, hope its fun, guys
  24. -Apple juice-Jones Soda-Ice waterJones is the best, though. There are awesome flavors, and you get a fortune and everything!
  25. I'd consider paying for gmail, but not for the search engine, or even google earth. The search engine is, admittingly, the best I've ever come across, but not good enough to pay for when there are so many other options out there. I don't really use google earth that much, though it is fun to play with (I have no other real use for it right now..)But gmail is definately the best email service I've ever come across. Between its huge amount of storage, search feature, and no ads.. its worth paying for. But I'd really prefer if they kept it free xP
