you need to repair you master boot record (mbr).boot from your xp installation disc.press R to repair.at the command prompt type fixmbr to overwrite the maste boot record.you can also try fixboot from the command prompt to replace the hdd boot sector.i had similar problems when i installed suse9.1 on my laptop , none of the above worked i had to format and reinstall windows. even then i still had the ntldr problem , but i could reinstall suse9.1 and boot into that without any problems.it was only when i went into the bios and changed the hdd bootup settings from auto to lba that i managed to get my hdd to boot again into xp.

i have used mastercard for the past 15 years and it has been excellent.i am from the uk and my mastercard is with natwest bank ... with this card i get british airways airmiles for every ?10 that i spend.i have had 2 instances were items appeared on my statement that i hadnt purchased and both times my account was credited in full without any problem.in fact one of the instances was brought to my attention by mastercard before i new anything about it.i suspected that my local petrol station was passing on my card details after i purchased petrol there , so i no longer buy petrol from there and for the past three years i have not had any problems with misuse of my mastercard.i would advise , if possible to pay off your monthly credit card debt in total every month otherwise you can quite easily find yourself overspending and ending up with heavy credit card debt that you cannot afford to pay off.

i have had some problems with FF not acting the same as IE6 on some websites.if you log onto one of these websites with FF , then select tools/java script console , it will show you the script errors found when logging onto the website. for example when logging on to Xisto with FF it generates this error ... Error: unterminated string literal Source File: http://forums.xisto.com/ Line: 691, Column: 10 Source Code: str = str+'70&profile_id=45"> fortunately this error doesnt seem to affect the appearance of the webpage. other webpages with more serious script errors stop FF from displaying all or parts of a webpage which then affect the user functionality of the webpage. i suppose you could forward the errors to the owners of the webpage and hope that they sort out their script errors so that the webpage functions correctly in FF.

I Am Getting A New Laptop For the festive season
niloc replied to bigfatme2000's topic in Hardware Workshop
i have a fujitsu amilo laptop .... bought through a deal from work , its fantastic.the only drawback to it is that you have to remove a base cover with 10 small screws in to swap the hdd ...... i dont do this often , so its only a minor problem. -
i started out many moons ago with basic on a bbc computer .... state of the art at the time.i then got into into assembly language through work and immersed myself in that for a while.now i just tend to use vb6 , html and css for the bits of things that i do.probably like most people here i am self taught with all the languages that i have learned and i am proud of that fact .... but it would have been much quicker and easier if i had been taught by somebody in the know.

Evidence For God. The ?real? evidence for a living God
niloc replied to wild20's topic in General Discussion
So are you saying that World War II was caused by religion? No! Are you saying that I am going to stop believing in God? Remember faith and evidence can co-exist. I have to say that there is nothing wrong that showing God does exist. Another thing, although there are many gods, the actual God, is different from the others. He is alive and living, He does not live on earth or in temples, He doesn't accept offerings andfood given to Him, He just wants our lives so He can save our souls, and He one and doesn't need people to take care of Him and is almighty and Holy and just in everything. These are the decisive features characterizing God apart from others and showing that He is the true God. All the others are pagan. The Bible doesn't contridict science, rather, science contridicts the Bible and when it does, it is ALWAYS a theory unable to be proven. But known stuff and FACTS, never ever go against the Bible. 214077[/snapback] i am confused by your answer cmatcmextra. i said that religion has brought to this world is death caused by the numerous wars between deffierent religious factions. [cmatcmextra] Your view of "religion = death to millions" is ignorant. how can you agree with me with one quote and then rewrite what i actually said with the next quote and end up by calling me ignorant ..... makes me think that perhaps it is you that is the ignorant one. unfortunately you are completely wrong on this quote ..... please read the quote below taken from the koran .... the muslims version of the bible. by the way , before you ask .... i am not a muslim. if you were to look at the rest of the koran you might find lots of quotes that you could use to prove the existence of allah ... the muslim god. doesnt it strike you as strange that there may be two gods that have created our universe? Notice from saint-michael: bbcode not working here. is that reason for the no quoting in the no post count? -
make sure that the fan is correctly mounted onto the processor .... it can go on in 2 ways ... only one is right.look for the ridge in the fan base it needs to go to the edge that has the processor release lever on it.

Evidence For God. The ?real? evidence for a living God
niloc replied to wild20's topic in General Discussion
if that is the best real evidence that is available then i will have to remain to be a non believer in god and religion.you take quotes from the bible to prove that it is a books full of facts on how the world works , unfortunately you do not give any credit to the authors of the bible ... i am sure that they were not dumb people , in fact they were probably extremely clever and had quite a few original ideas themselves how the world worked.one thing is still unproven to me by your real evidence .... is the bible a literary work of fact or fiction , most likely in my mind is that it is a collection of stories that have been exaggerated over a period time.the only one thing that religion has brought to this world is death caused by the numerous wars between deffierent religious factions. -
i use xp and linux.i prefer xp because the choice and availabilty of programs available to choose from is massive compared with any other operating system.

i find it is enough for me for all the things that i tend to do with my pc.it is easy enough to add extra hdd to desktop pc if you find you are running out of space.it is a little more difficult to add an extra hdd to a laptop , but the easiest way is to just plug in an externel usb hdd if you find yourself needing more space.

looks as though your recovery disc didnt find your network card.do you know what wireless network card you have installed.do you have a driver disc that came with your laptop that might have the network drivers on.if not then google the make of your laptop to see if you can find out the network card that is likely to be in it.now google the network card for the drivers for your operating system.

What Do You Think Of E-bay? any experiences?
niloc replied to Peaktao's topic in Websites and Web Designing
i think ebay is fantastic. it has everything on there that you could wish to buy.my advice to you is to decide what the maximum is that you want to spend on an item and then place that bid with about one minute to go. say an item is selling for ?5.75 and you would be prepared to buy it for ?20 , then bid the ?20 with one minute to go and then wait to see what it actually goes for. if your bid is successful then you will win the item with at a cost anywhere between ?6.75 and ?20. if your bid is unsuccessful , at least you havent been drawn into a bidding battle and paid far more that you wished for the item.i tend to watch similar items to the one that i intend to buy , to see what they sell at. this gives me a good idea of my top price that i am willing to buy at.i always look for sellers with a good feedback ratio ... 90-100%watch out for people sending you emails after an unsuccessful bid on an item. they say that they noticed you were unsuccessful with your bid and that they are selling a similar item ... would you like to buy it? ...... the sale is then done privately and is not covered by ebays policies and therefore you got easily get ripped off. -
a little bit more info would be nice ... like make / model of laptop would be a good start.

wow that is hot for a cpu temperature.have you got heatsink paste on the base of the cooler ?

you dont mention what ps2 emulator that you are using. pcsx2 seems to have limited success although it is in its infancy and restricted by the fact that a ps2 game emulator requires a massive ammount of processing power to run ps2 games on the pc at a reasonable speed with decent graphic settings.

sony have been putting software ( called xcp ) on some of their audio cds. if you play these cds on your pc it automaticallyinstalls software on your pc. this software uses "rootkit" to hide the file from the user. here is a list of cds with the xcp software. the software limits listeners' ability to copy the music onto their computers, and locks copied files so they cannot be freely distributed over the Internet. it also also secretly communicates with sony over the internet when listeners play the discs. hackers must have looked at this and redesigned the xcp code to communicate other secret data to the hacker from the users pc , like bank details etc. it looks as though sony and first 4 internet ( the software writers ) might be facing a big law suit over this one.
