  1. I don't think it's up to Xisto to do that. I think ICANN is the one who removes your website if you do not provide information that is accurate.
  2. Wait, wasn't it your birthday just a few months ago? Oh wait that was your Xisto anniversary. Seriously, with the massive amounts of parties we throw you I can't even keep up. And by massive amounts I mean two, and by parties, I mean Xisto threads created. But as you can see I already wished you a very happy birthday over another means of communication a few days ago: *Asterisk denotes lines that were altered to make galexcd look better.
  3. He looks a little grouchy to me, but that might be because you're holding him :lol:Well there certainly is some sort of resemblance, don't try to deny it! You both have a puppet face. Now don't feel ashamed, having a puppet face isn't a bad thing, however children with puppet faces can be very sensitive about the subject and it must be approached with care. When is the right time to tell your nephew that he has a puppet face? Probably sometime around his 7th birthday. Let him know that having a puppet face is not a bad thing, and many people would love to have one. Sure, he will be made fun of a bit more in school than the other children, but in time he will soon learn to live with his puppet face, just as I'm sure you have.
  4. Although not advised for storing large files, you can include files directly into mysql by using the BLOB type. Unfortunately mysql databases normally don't have very much space allocated to them because they mostly store text so you might find that it is easier to upload files to a directory on your website and reference them from sql. If you are still sure you want to do this, and if you are trying to do this from php, this tutorial might help you on your way.
  5. It would be great if you could have page numbers at the bottom of each page, and perhaps links to go to certain numbers, sometimes I like to jump around when looking for images and it's a little tedious to go one page at a time.
  6. I could not agree any more with you. The movie was just boring, and the only reason it kept my interest enough to watch the rest of the film because I read the book, but I can imagine how boring and confusing it could be to those who didn't. I heard that they are working on a movie based on Angels and Demons, and I hope they do a better job because that is my favorite book.
  7. I am in the exact same predicament as you are in. I'm going to a halloween party with my coworkers and I need a costume to wear, but this is more for fun so I don't exactly want to go as something "scary", thats not really the point... I want something a bit more witty... Perhaps i'll write 127.0.0.1 in white sharpie on a black shirt and ask everyone to try to hack me...
  8. Certain html elements will not work in an email, pretty much just the most basic html will be rendered. Any template that uses even slightly complex tags will not work properly in an email. So it depends on the template you use.
  9. It is certainly interesting, however it isn't much yet, it's google with an ad on top and a slightly less intuitive user interface, however if you start adding new features I think you might have something there. Keep us posted as to what updates you make and what features you add. What I've always wanted to see in google images is some sort of preview, so you can view the full sized image without going to the website itself. For example, some sort of "preview" link below each image that when clicking on it it opens a div layer with the full sized image in it.
  10. To make an email client render html code properly send these two lines in the header of the email: Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bitThen you are free to html away as much as you want. It is better to store the images on your server because if you include them as attachments some email clients will not display them properly and will list all of the attachments at the end of the message instead of displaying where they are supposed to actually go. The only disadvantage to hosting the pictures on your server is that more and more email clients and webmail services are hiding images that are stored on an external server until the user chooses to view them to help prevent spam.
  11. First of all let me start by saying that this website looks very professional and well done. However there are some small UI tweaks that I would suggest to make it look a bit more "shiny". First, make the look a bit more soft. All those perfectly square edges make the entire website look a little too blocky for my taste. Having rounded corners would make the website look more inviting. Second, that top banner just doesn't fit in right in my opinion. It just looks out of place where it is. I have a few suggestions to fix this however! First, make it slightly bigger so it takes up the full width of the inner layer. Secondly, round the top corners to look a bit softer. Finally I would suggest to make it look a bit more "shiny" by adding a white, very light, slightly rounded top gradient, and a very light black gradient at the bottom of the bottom of the banner. This will give it more of a 3d look. Here is an example: However, for the sake of example I exaggerated my image. I did put a bit too much white and black into the banner. Third, there is a little too much blue for my taste, however I don't think this should be changed. The website has a nice color scheme and I'm sure most don't mind it, I'd try to add a little bit more of a variety of colors in there. What I was actually thinking of is adding a subtle black gradient to the bottom of the dark blue background on every page. Here is an example:
  12. Programming a video player that can stream video, and have play/pause buttons and a timeline in flash, and especially java is might take some time unless you know what you are doing. I would recommend going with a free flash video player. I personally recommend this one. It is very easy to implement into your website, and also very easy to modify to match the look and feel of your website.
  13. Youtube has actually implemented an idea from the popular web comic XKCD. This comic was posted on xkcd on Thursday Sep 25, 2008 at about 9:00 PM: Well today you tube has added an extra button when you decide to post a text comment, as shown here: Hopefully this will cut back the amount of junk comments that are posted every day on videos.
  14. The website isn't bad for a first attempt, but to be quite honest, it certainly isn't a website I would think was professional. Your frontpage is just background image with some text and images slapped over it. One thing that would really define the look of the webpage is if you create a layout for it. Get some layers with alternate colors, and something a little bit more fancy than a 3 celled table with 100% width for your content. You can get creative!
  15. And I thought I had it hard when I was trying to triple boot my macbook pro. When I was working on setting that up I had no tutorial to follow, other than my friend who successfully dual booted his macbook with ubuntu+mac, but pretty much all I learned from him was to get rEFIt. Oh well, it was a very well written tutorial, however with all the pain and suffering getting my current set up through I don't think I want to be changing it any time soon. Besides, what would be the advantage to putting both vista AND xp on your machine (other than to show of how many OS's you can pack into your sleek laptop).
  16. Hello Darkelve and welcome to Xisto.Being multilingual is a very strong point... I am somewhat multilingual however gradually losing that ability. I used to be quite fluent in german, but over time of not using it I have been forgetting how to speak most of it. Anyway, we have yet another web designer! You will make a great addition to this forum. I'm sure most of us ammeters would like to see your portfolio, I'm sure many members could learn a bit by seeing your designs and how you executed them. You also mentioned that you have limited programming knowledge. Xisto is a fantastic place to learn new languages. We have an entire sub-forum devoted to programming where you can ask questions and learn how to program, providing that you have an interest in learning.Anyway, thats enough for now, I wish you luck on your websites and I look forward to reading your posts around the forums.
  17. I may be mistaken, however I'm fairly certain that he wasn't upgrading his account, he was talking about saving up non-hosted credits and losing them all when he had his hosting approved. I only see one hosing requests in his topic history, and none of them are upgrades from plan 1 to plan 2.
  18. I don't think it's you. After re-reading what I posted I realized I didn't make much sense myself. It must have been because I was typing that on my iPhone in my advanced data structures class while trying to figure out why i only got a 74% on the last test, apparently my multi-tasking skills need some work... Basically what I was trying to convey is what SM and xpress posted below me. When you apply for hosting your credits are reset to about 1 or 2 to prevent you from saving up a bunch and going a long time without posting again.
  19. Unfortunatly when you apply for hosting you credits are reset. This is mentioned in the read me for Xisto. This is because non-hosted credits are not worth as much as hosted credits because when you are hosted your credits go down one per day, so it is much harder to collect credits. If your credits didn't reset then members would post a lot when not hosted and save up like 90 credits and not post again for 3 months. The whole point of a forum is to keep members active and posting.
  20. I'd have to agree with saint michael here. We can't tell you what sport you'll like, we haven't even gotten to know you yet. Different sports appeal to different people. Some depend on how athletic you are, while others depend more on your skill and hand eye coordination. If you still are not sure what sport you might be interested, try a few. You'll find that you are more attracted to some, and less attracted to others.
  21. A big problem with making a tutorial on getting everything working is that there is so many different distributions and there is so many different hardware configurations that it would be quite difficult to address all of those options. Many drivers and settings will be unique to each of us. For example, there is a specific wiki for getting ubuntu to work properly on a macbook pro, and within that there are different sub sections depending on what hardware your macbook pro is configured with.
  22. Opening websites in iframes are allowed because when you open a page in an iframe you are not loading that content through Xisto's servers, Xisto just sends the source to the browser, which then loads the page directly from the server who's iframe you are loading. The reason web proxies are not allowed because when you load a page through a web proxy Xisto loads all of the page data including all of the images, and then sends it to your browser, using up Xisto's bandwidth for information not actually hosted on Xisto.
  23. The name doesn't suck, don't change it. Who the hell won't know what this forum is mostly centered about if you don't include free web hosting in the title. Besides I don't post to this forum for free web hosting at all, the only reason I am hosted is to give away credits to other members. I was even slightly embarrassed some times when I would try to get some of my friends to join this forum because it was so centered around free web hosting and I would have to explain that it has a good community for just ordinary posting, not just hosting. P.S. Don't change the name.
  24. Oh so you want to dig up the past? 10 years ago i was in 5th grade. I did not know anything about web design or even how the internet worked. It was just something I would go to when I needed information about something specific. Back then I used dial up with AOL. When I first saw google I thought the "I'm feeling lucky button" was some kind of advertisement for a gambling site or something. It was about a year before I actually realized what that button actually did Ahh, I was such a little computer newbie back then...
  25. Hello Creatative and welcome to Xisto!I haven't seen such a well written and detailed introduction in a long time. It is nice to see returning members, it looks like you will be a great addition to these forums. Also, you are a programmer! Hooray! You'll fit right in with me and the rest of the computer nerds on this forum. I think you made an excellent choice by going with Xisto, it has been around for a long time and I think it will be around for many more years to come. So once again, welcome, I look forward to reading your posts around the forums.
