    Hello All

    Welcome to Xisto deraa! To be given free hosting here you should read what is required in the Xisto Readme file, you can access it here http://forums.xisto.com/index.php?act&CODE=01&HID=18 and on every page in the header of the Shoutbox. I hope you enjoy your stay here and look forward to your posts.
  2. The method I used works the same in both IE (in my version 6 anyways) and Firefox (my browser of choice). These were the 2 browsers I concentrated on making it work for, I don't know about other browsers. According my stats, I have catered for the vast majority of visitors as these are the different browsers used by my visitors in the last month. My method works for at least 90% of my visitors so I'm pretty happy with that.
  3. The theme for this week's SOTW will be the 4 seasons. Your sig should depict any ONE of the 4 seasons, be that Summer, Winter, Spring or Fall (or Autumn, depending what part of the world you are from). How you depict the season is totally up to you. Basically, what does the season mean to you, how does it make you feel, what does the season make you think of? The specifications for the sig are: Sig size: Between 250 to 350 pixels wide and 100 to 150 pixels high Brush Style: Freestyle Color: To match your render if one is used Render: Optional Text: The name of the season your sig depicts AND your name (your forum name) Other effects: Optional PRIZES 1st Place: 15 Credits 2nd Place: 10 Credits 3rd Place: 5 Credits Once again I have gone for a broad theme to give more people the chance to enter and express their creative prowess. Good luck! Due Date: July 3rd LATE ENTRIES NOT ACCEPTED
  4. Hmm... it looks like the javascript file referred to in nav1.htm... <script type="text/javascript" src="drop_down.js">doesn't exist! Could this be the problem? Also, did you include this piece of Javascript to make it work in IE like it says at http://alistapart.com/article/horizdropdowns ? I can't see it anywhere. OK, OK, so that darn IE/Win has to ruin everything and not do as it’s told. IE/Win only allows the :hover pseudo-class to be applied to a link — so the li:hover that makes the sub-menus appear means nothing to IE.A tiny jot of JavaScript is required to kick IE back into action (line wraps marked » — Ed.):startList = function() {if (document.all&&document.getElementById) {navRoot = document.getElementById("nav");for (i=0; i<navRoot.childNodes.length; i++) {node = navRoot.childNodes[i];if (node.nodeName=="LI") {node.onmouseover=function() {this.className+=" over"; } node.onmouseout=function() { this.className=this.className.replace» (" over", ""); } } } }}window.onload=startList;
  5. Actually, the method shown by tempest IS using CSS, the only difference is that he included the <style> command on the web page with some javascript rather than using a style sheet. It will work the same using either method. I use this method on my web site at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Run your mouse over the 'random image' thumbnail or any thumbnail in a search list to see the effect. My method is a little different and is contained in a style sheet, no javascript required. .image:link { opacity: 1.0; filter: alpha(opacity=100); -moz-opacity: 1.0; width: auto; height: 100px; }.image:visited { opacity: .65; -moz-opacity: .65; filter: alpha(opacity=65); width: auto; height: 100px; }.image:hover { -moz-opacity: .65; opacity: .65; filter: alpha(opacity=65,finishopacity=65,style=0); width: auto; height: 100px; }
  6. Sorry, when you said a 'spacy' theme I thought you meant a spaceship in space. No worries, I actually found a few renders of the characters you mentioned so I can put something together for you. *Watch this space* (pun intended) [EDIT] How about all 3? I didn't find any renders as such, I had to cut them myself. Is this more like what you wanted?
  7. C'mon folks, we haven't had votes here for a few days now. Cast your vote now before this contest closes.
  8. I beg to differ. I have used the method on quite a few renders and it creates a nice enhancement of the render. Here's an example, the first render without the effect, the second render with the effect. Obviously you wouldn't use the effect on all renders, but with renders like this I think it works well.
  9. Loving the first one Mike, perhaps a little dark in the lower left corner but still excellent. The border is neat and simple, I like it.The second one I'm not so keen on. The glowing lines above and below the text are fine, but I think the rest of the lines is too much. I'm not a fan of the dimpled border either.
  10. The first thing you need to ask yourself is, "How long will this take to complete?" Then you need to ask yourself, "How much is my time worth per hour?" When answering this question, keep in mind how much you could earn if you were doing some other type of work. Personally, I would look at a minimum of $20 per hour. From there you can work out a price based on an hourly rate. Don't be afraid to charge a reasonable amount, charge too little and they will think you are not a serious designer. Also think of how much money your customer stands to make from your work. On the other side of the coin, if you charge too much, they will not accept your offer. Try to research how much professional web designers charge and keep your price below that a little to discourage them from going elsewhere.I hope that helps rather than confuse you.
  11. Sorry, but I don't like the wallpaper at all. It too dark and depressing looking for me. While the design is simple and good for a background image, unfortunately the only thing I do like is the text. Sorry, mate. Can't please everyone I guess. 5/10
  12. Well it's a little raunchier than what we normally see here, but it's still tasteful. NoveTerra makes a good point, the text and the render should be blended better. I don't like the sparkles on the render and I think it looks a little empty around the text. Perhaps it would have been better with the text moved to the left and the sig made a little shorter. 6/10 from me.
  13. Welcome back delivi! I know Xisto is great place to be, but it's good to see you have your priorities right and concentrated on your studies. I'll be looking for you around the forums.
  14. This would all make sense if qwertyiscool was in the [HOSTED] group, but he is in the 'Members' group. From my memory, your credits do not decrease if you are not hosted. Perhaps what mayank said explains it, but it doesn't sound right to me. All that aside, if you're not being hosted, what does it matter what level your hosting credits are?
  15. I have one thing to say... WTF!Kubi, I don't know what you were trying to do, but something is seriously wrong with that animation. I watched it for ages waiting for something to happen besides the little guy rasing his arms and saying "ohhh pwnt". The soundtrack seems to overlap making animation apparently go on forever. I ended up turning it off after about 5 minutes as the soundtrack was driving me crazy. What happened?
  16. I'm working on these banners for you but I have a problem with the second one you want. The link you gave doesn't really show where you want the banner to go and my Firefox says I need a plug-in to view the page properly, but it can't tell me what plug-in need. To save lot of messing around, can you just tell me the size you need the second banner to be? Here's the first banner, I hope you like it.
  17. Here's my entry. I think everyone has played this classic game at one time or another.
  18. Like the title says, "Simplicity". I like it a lot, the only problem I see with it is the "X" in GFX appears to disappear into the background a little. Clean design and nice use of minimal colors. 7/10 from me. Good question Brian, why do we make these images? I guess it's like asking a painter why they would paint a picture of a bowl of fruit. It's something we can create that allows us to express ourselves. Sure, most of us are not experts, but it's something we enjoy doing as a hobby.
  19. Hehe.. that is funny! A VERY bad idea. Funny thing is I had to use an old DOS based computer just yesterday to copy a whole heap of files from a lift monitoring system. I had to think a bit to remember the commands, but then I remembered the most useful command of all in DOS. "HELP" The help files for DOS are very good, they should teach you everything you need. The version of DOS on this machine was 6.22 which I think was the last version made.
  20. Notice from Avalon: There is a specific forum for all things Google, please ensure you post in the correct forum in the future. Moving to "The Google Discussion Forum (GOOGLADE.com / GOOGLAID.com) > Google Services > Google Toolbar"
  21. Johnny is right, be yourself. It's no good pretending to be someone that you are not, people will always see through a charade like that. Treat both him and his daughter with respect, (I assume you already do that) and you should be fine.
  22. Here is your sig, enjoy! I normally don't put text on the render, but this time it seemed appropriate. In case you were wondering, the guitar is an "Ibanez GIO".
  23. The bird in the video is called a Lyrebird, it is native to Australia and are often found in bushland close to where I live. Some people think it is called a Lyrebird because of it's ability to mimic other sounds, i.e. the bird is a 'liar' because it's not really what make the sounds of. The truth is, it is called a Lyrebird because of the shape of its tail. If you're really interested, you can find some more information here.
  24. I think perhaps there is something you are overlooking here. I don't know the site but one might expect there are researchers to collect the content, web designers to keep the page up to date, advertising costs and the cost of making the marketing items such as the t-shirts. If you are looking at these types of things, then it is not hard to see that $120,000 might not be such an unrealistic figure. I mean, does it say anywhere that it costs them $120,000 for just the hosting costs? I think perhaps you need to look at the big picture to understand what might be the total cost of running such a site. Just a thought.
  25. Which posts in particular are you having trouble posting to? There should be very few forums you are unable to post to, but sometimes if you try to reply to a topic listed in the "Last posts" or "Last Topics" list you will get a board message saying there is an error. This is usually because that particular topic is "invisible", but unfortunately they are still shown in those lists.
